By profession I'm a knitwear designer, indie yarn dyer, and a maker of project bags, but I do enjoy sewing as well. And I gotta say, I'm always inspired to sew even more after watching these videos. Thank you! (My wallet is less grateful though, I'm sorry to say, haha). Also voted for you - good luck!

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Seeing the fabrics which you demonstrated was really helpful, it is not always easy to understand drape etc of fabric when buy online. You also gave e some ideas. Thank you, more videos like this please.

I know you made this last year. But I just saw your video
and had to comment. Loved all your top versions.
But, by far, the third one, black floral, is very pretty. Love it.
It’s very flattering. I do think it could benefit from the darts.
    Love your videos. Thank you.

I am not into fast dressmaking and don't particularly like making or wearing loose, unstructured clothing. But I like your approach to the pattern review. Making up the different options and using different fabrics does bring out the best in a pattern. One can objectively see what works and doesn't and how the fabric chooses can make one pattern into a versatile choice. I particularly liked your 4th option - it is stylish and beautiful.

I'm not a fan of this particular dress BUT I loved this video seeing how different fabrics work with it. It's so much easier to buy fabric online when you can see videos of it made up in a garment moving etc so please do more of these :D

I really enjoyed your review and seeing Stevie in different fabrics. I first made it during the heatwave in a textured cotton and found it far too hot. I also modified it by bringing in at the waist. I tried it again in a very light Seasalt fabric and like you wish I’d made it longer( I’d added 4inches to the dress) I’ve just made it in a lovely poppy cotton and lowered the neckline and added grosgrain ribbon to the back. Again I tapered it in. I think Im going to use a Viscose or crepe now I’ve seen your version. Anyway from a pattern I wasn’t sure about I’m convincing myself now I’ve seen your versions. .🤣Id love to see more videos like this.

Just catching up on videos Sheona. I love this review type video and would be great to see more. Not sure what pattern though! Your three Stevie's are fab. I bought my Stevie pattern from you at the Threads festival and have been wondering what fabric to use to make it. Seeing all your different versions has been so helpful, I now have a much clearer idea how the different fabrics affect the fit and look of the dress. I absolutely LOVE your cobra corsage version! And please do more of this type of video - it's really interesting.

Love this video. When I look at the pattern envelope, I really don't like what I see - it looks way too boxy. But after seeing your versions I hope to give it a try. The bird fabrics are very pretty. Would love to see more videos like this one. Going to vote for your shop now. Good luck!

  • @Barneysma

I love watching your vlogs, thank you. Really enjoyed this one, although it has confirmed my feeling that at 5' nothing this pattern is not for me unless I could scoop the neckline, grade in the waist and put darts in the back as you have done. But then, all those alterations are a problem for a beginner! For those of us who live too far to come to your sewing classes I wonder if you could sometimes add a quick tutorial to your reviews when you have tweaked the patterns? i.e. how to position the darts in the back, or how if the neckline is scooped, the facing can be re-cut? I would love to make the Stevie as you have altered it, but not the original boxy pattern!

Love all of your versions! I wasn't sure about this pattern, but seeing your versions have made me think more about buying it. Like you I would lower the neckline. The high neckline was putting me off as I fairly have broad shoulders. Would love more similar vlogs of other patterns ☺

I was so excited to see that you were going to review the Stevie in various fabrics (and yes PLEASE DO MORE!) because I have Stevie winging its way to me right now :) I didn't buy it when it was first released because it is so similar to other simple dress & top patterns I already own. Then of course I started seeing Stevies pop up on blogs everywhere just had to buy it :) Love all of yours but that last one (your favourite) in viscose was so beautiful and suited your colouring so perfectly I was star-struck when you appeared on camera wearing it! Thank you for another great video Sheona.

Very cool dress on you, and the last fabric is gorgeous! I don't think the Stevie is for me, though. I think it would look awful on me. Tilly's patterns just don't do it for me because I think they would all be terrible on me. However, I love seeing them on other people because they are cute!

Thanks for your vlog Sheena. I too am a bit more curvy and the boxy shaped patterns don’t always suit me so it was really helpful to see how you adapted it. I have the pattern and will make it in a lawn cotton first i think. Do you think it could be made in a scuba? I know it doesn’t need the stretch but I have some scuba I love and fancy trying it out. I do like the style of this vlog so please do repeat this format. Diana

Hi, thank you. This is so helpful. I am coming back to sewing and have made the Stevie in a cotton and it has come out quite A-line as the cotton, although soft, is quite firm.. My hips are 40 but my top 35.5 Inches so I am pear shaped. I made the pattern as it was but omitted the pocket. Just thought I would make it twice to give me confidence but am completely stuck as to which fabric to use. You mention rayon or viscose - I thought they were the same. I do have some rayon that I bought which I did buy for another project but not made it yet. You also say cotton lawn or cotton poplin would be good. I am going towards cotton lawn. I find the neckline a bit high at the front and would like to know how to lower the neckline and facings. Or I could do your third version in a very drapey fabric you suggest and just keep the pattern as is. thank you
