When you have a predator lender, like China, preying on poor desperate countries knowing they won't be able to pay back with extreme terms, so the predator can take their countries assets, the borrower becomes a victim. China is not lending so they can make extra money from interest rates. China is lending in a way so that they can force other nations to their knees.

Look i am not fond of the CCP either but to me it just sounds like the term 'debt trap' is an excuse everyone is using to blame China for their own incompetence, afterall no one forced those countries to take loans, they were the ones who chose to take the loans after seeing the interest rates, and they were the ones who agreed to those contracts after reading them and calculating the pros and cons properly and in the end it was their elected leaders flawed economic policies that resulted in those countries not being able to pay China back, so blaming China for something that all banks and financial institutions like the World Bank and IMF do to their customers just doesn't seem like a right thing to do 😅

Sri Lanka awards port project to China after dropping Japan, India - no wonder Disinformation Queen so sore over the Sri Lanka .
On 30 September, Adani Group, India’s largest private port operator, signed what has been reported as a US$700 million agreement to build a new container terminal in Sri Lanka. The deal to jointly develop the Colombo West International Container Terminal (CWICT) with Sri Lanka’s largest listed company, John Keells Holdings and the Sri Lankan Ports Authority, will function under a “build-operate-transfer” arrangement for 35 years. Adani Ports will hold a 51 per cent stake in the terminal partnership, while John Keells would hold 34 per cent and the SLPA 15 per cent.
As the first-ever Indian port operator in Sri Lanka, and the largest foreign investment in Sri Lanka’s port industry, the deal has geopolitical significance. Even though Colombo Port was a regional hub that primarily served the Indian market, no Indian investor had been interested in investing in Sri Lanka’s port industry. That was, until the Chinese came in.
Sri Lanka has now become a prominent battleground for India’s competition with China in South Asia. Port investments are the latest manifestation.

china interest rate for international credit is 1% and in extreme cases 3%. these are attractive interest rates for any country. when countries fail to make payments to China, is not because the deals were unfair, but because those countries are run by officials that are embezzling public funds. the term chinese debt trap is too political. many other countries barrow loans from China and they are financing these loans perfectly well. you cant use Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the 2 more countries that have defaulted in their payments to say that china is playing dirty. the imf, and world Bank, often times are not loaning these countries nothing and if they do, at extremely high interest rates that you people never reports. stop being bias.

True the loan is cheap but if the loan is invested in loss making venture there comes the problem. Anyways Laos took a loan they have to repay the debt.

The lease agreement essentially allows China to operate and manage the Sri Lankan port for a period of 99 years. At the end of 2120 or 2121, the port shall revert back to Sri Lanka's control. It will not be owned by China, just operated for a fixed period for their own purpose. If all goes well, Sri Lanka will be handed with a port will all improvements and upgrades without shelling a single rupee. Win-win situation for both China and Sri Lanka.

Don't they cry hoarse about it being a very evil colonial exploitation?!

India is a country without concept of logic, so many people just do not know how to get a correct conclusion. In India culture, they have a concept called"Indian logic", unlike Greek logic opinions are based on facts and truth to form a real argument, what Indian logic is based on someone said something, not on reality or any fact, so for them if someone they like said something that thing must be true, in this case, wion, they do not need any fact to get the conclusion
