The Slip Float Rig Is A Must Have (Especially For COLD WATER)!

  • A Slip Float Rig is such a fantastic rig for numerous species of fish and a plethora of conditions. You can use it on ultralight equipment like I did or heavier gear as well. I honestly haven't spent a lot of time using this rig up until recently, but I am glad I decided to pick it up, as it has quickly become one of my confidence setups (especially when the water is less than 50 degrees and the fish are less active).
    Running a float of any type allows anglers to suspend a jig or live bait vertically in the water column. This is especially important when the fish are set up in a suspended manner and less active (hence the cold water notes). Crappie anglers certainly love this rig for that reason, however as shown here, it can be effective for Bass, Perch, and Bluegill as well!

    1) I seriously can’t wait to get these minnows on the water seeing what people are doing with them.

    Im going to be 100% honest. I use to only target bass. There were many times I ended up disappointed. I was a power fishing angler. I changed my whole approach and started multi species angling. I have caught more bass with the new approach. That also lead me too being a good finesse angler when targeting bass

      This is the best comment ever. This is what many anglers do not understand about the light line approach. You can actually learn even more about other species by doing this!

I just realized when I tried bobber stops with the line as a stopper that you’re supposed to remove the little black tube it comes on in order to tighten it around your line for use....

    So interestingly enough when i worm fish for bass I will use a 4 inch worm with just an offset hook and let it sink naturally. Then do really slow raise once it hits bottom back up like 4-6 feet. Tend to catch a lot of bass on the natural drop. Sometimes hard to pick up hits on the drop if you have to much slack line. Slip float might actually really help with that especially with fluoro.

    I tried this rig the other day using a 1/80oz mule jig with a 1.2 minnow but found that rig was floating on the water and not going through the slip float. I'm using 4lb mono. I assume this is why you mentioned the split shot. Where do I put the split shot? Right next to the jig head where I tie on the line or somewhere above the jig head? I'd love some feedback here.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I just got to this! Yeah, I would add your split shot about 10-24" above your jig. That will keep your float from hitting the jig and will help it sink down. The super light weights with a slip float are a bit tricky so the split shot helps.

    Hey so I realized your floats don't actually have the slit down their side which lets you slide them onto your line as a normal bobber, which is a bit of a shame. Most foam slip bobbers like this come with a slit in them and it allows it to have additional functionality, is there a specific reason why yours don't?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Yeah I avoided the slot because I have found they have less issues with tangling up in the line and causing line twist or damage to your line. While is is a bit less convenient to have to re-rig, I feel it works better once rigged up.
