Thanks to you guys i have caught my 2nd biggest carp (and yes for you guys it wouldnt even warrant a photo😂😂😂) but the biggest ive caught in about 5 years, was a beautiful 4.5kg common carp
Your videos have been like gold dust for me. Just starting out in the sport and the advice and knowledge shared means I'm much better prepared and equipped! Thanks guys!
Instead of attaching your hook with knot, try using two rubber bobber stoppers on the line, with the hook in between, facing up! The hook will always be in the correct position, and will be easily adjusted, up or down. …… I got this idea from one of your videos on how to tie a helicopter rig! Thanks!
There’s me minding own business brushing up on some angling knowledge to fish with my 6 year old after a 35 year break and what suddenly looks familiar is the location.. two places me and my mates used to regularly float and ledger for perch. I couldn’t believe it brought back some memories growing up in Newport. Out of all the places in the uk your sat on slop blank casting under a bridge like myself all those years ago. Crazy but Cool, thanks Carl
Hi Carl I love your vids you have really inspire me, I went down to the canal today and caught 8 perch. I have learned so much since I started watching your channel 1 year ago. I am loving it so much. Hope you and Alex are doing amazing, keep up the incredible videos. From myles
Very helpful video. Never been successful drop shotting but now I want to give it a go again as I know why I’ve never been successful now. Please never stop making how to videos nor on the main channel. Keep up he great work 🎣
Figured This might be the best way on my local canal so seriously taking note now, thank you both for being so quality, still blows my mind how much you two have grown since starting
How to calculate your weights (and rod test): multiply depth in meters x 1.2-2.0. So @ 10m depth 12-20g sinker will be best, depending on current, wind and distance you cast (boat or shore), as well as size of bait (2” for perch vs 5” for zander). So if you drop shot Zander with 5” lure at 12-15m in strong current, 30g lead might easily be needed + add the weigh of the lure itself.. so it’s up to 40g at the end. If all you do is fish 4m deep canals for perch, 3-15g is ok.
This is awesome information 👍🤝 do you think it’s mono is fine for little canals etc like this? I find it impossible to believe that braid is going to impart much difference with such a lightweight setup but I’m happy to be schooled 🤗👍🤝
Great film, very informative. One tip, when walking between swims carry the rod butt first, then if you walk into a tree or push the rod into the ground it is the handle that takes the hit and not the rod tip - save you from having to buy a new rod!! Tight lines.
Another good video Carl, nice to see the videos catching up again, hope to see many more. They are great to watch when your at home chilling, they keep you buzzing till your on the bank again.
I use a 25g ten foot rod for drop shotting. I fish mostly large lakes though. Anything less than half ounce will not allow me to cast to where the fish are. I also fish quite large lures and larger hooks. The length of the rod I use helps with hooksets at range.
Been watching your videos for a week now, you and your brothers channel are so wholesome and full of useful info. Just waiting for my rod license to get here(ain’t been fishing for 15yrs). Great content.
Hi Carl,I've broken a rod by breaking it when carrying it along the bank.I have started to carry the rod reel first, the balance is better, and there are less breakages.
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
Great show and info. Was once upon a time i was a fishing and hunting guide in western Canada. I have guided for some of the biggest game in some of the most remote areas (ie. Great Slave Lake 21" artic grayling and Haida Gwaii 36lb king salmon etc.) and perch fishing is by far the best of them all !!!!! Thanks for sharing my first love.
Those little Daiwa Ninja UL rods are incredible. I've had one for a couple of years and have caught everything from pike and pollack to trout and perch on it.
I mostly prefer to dropshot in the winter when the bites are really slow. In the summer i like to use twitchbaits, spinners, cranks, plugs, (and a lot of) poppers.
Another way to tell if it is a dedicated drop shot rod- it says “Drop Shot” on the rod! 😎 As always, an informative and useful, as well as entertaining, vid!
Not necessary though. You can get a fine, soft tipped rod with a bit of a back bone to it and just color in the tip of the rod with a white marker. The white tip is the only difference between a "normal" rod and a "dropshot" rod. You can maybe save a little too :)
@@AdaiiRable surely a light spinning rod with a little it of white or florescent electrical tape run around the tip is as good as anything? Marketing gimmicks to but more tackle

Thank you for this very helpful video I have been fishing since I was 12 now over 30 so a long time and have never really done any drop shotting I started off doing river float fishing then turned it up to pike fishing in the late 90s and last few years been starting carp fishing I recently went back to my old river and could see the bottom as I walked along the edge of the river I noticed there wasn't 1 fish swimming in the river not 1 this is the river nene in Northampton I don't understand what is going on with the river or the fish where they have gone or even how there is no fish at all in a river is there any advice you could give on this please carl
The change in water clarity could well be a bad thing! Sounds as though your stretch may have been polluted. Check with your local water authority, if they shrug it off make an official statement informing them of your concerns include any fishing club and other users of the water if possible "email" Its usually anglers who are the first to notice water problems lets keep that up Good luck with your river and tight lines!
I really got inspired by this video, and you happened to upload it as I moved to Milton Keynes, so I got the gear and I caught a few nice perch, but I need to improve my casting as it cost me some end tackle lol. Thanks for the great videos!
Hey Carl! This video was very informative! I haven't perfected tying knots yet but the Palomar that you showed seemed simple enough. Thank you for all of the knowledge. I live in Wyoming so imagine a funny accent when I say this: "Cheers mate!"
High, I know this was a couple of years ago but, nice video and a few rewards for your efforts. When you tied all your end tackle together easy to follow but what position 🤔 was the hook in ?? Was the point facing towards the surface and the shank closest to the river bed ? Or, was it the other way 🤔 round ? Shank uppermost and point down ?? Hope you can advise, as got rod n' reel last Christmas 🎄 but not used yet, in between rod weight wise so I can drop shot and also fish plastics as well, looking forward to having a go. Hope you can help 🙏 Cheers mate, Les.
Beautiful Beautiful place to go fishing you have there Carl, very nicely explained on how to fish the drop shot, O!!! and very nicely filmed by your camera man, Thank you for that 👍
8-10lb braid is great for perch, trout, small bass, and other panfish. I use 8lb braid for most of my rigs, tied with a union knot to a 6lb fluoro leader. ✌️🎣
A tip for NOT breaking rods into trees. Point the rod backwards, so switch it 180° in your hand so that the tip points backwards, it you hit a tree or branche or bush, only the eyes can be ripped off. But the rod doesnt break
Best advice to anyone wanting to try dropshot fishing is take along some jig head lures and small spinners, so that when you are bored to tears using that method you can switch over and save throwing yourself off a bridge.
Hi, great video. I think I'll go dropshot tomorrow morning after watching this video, but I want to ask what size reel you use. I bought 3000 today but I think it's big because I have a 180cm rod. Thank you

When you carry your pole carry it with your hand around the reel stem and pole but backwards. That way you are not going to break your pole running into a tree. This way if you are going through brush your pole will just follow your body. I hae done this for over 50 years. Both spinning and fly rod

Turn the rigged Rod by 180° that the Tip is behind you while carrying thru Trees and Bushes. It will avoid damaging your Rod a second Time
