Hi mate, Just added via the tank is the way to go. Put as much as it will take, that will ensure it gets to the engine and pump. Then keeping topping up once the engine is running.
The 3 lines on the dashboard, are there because the clutch module has to relearn the working range. It has nothing to do with the lights in the back. It needs some time when you put the in ignition to do the whole procedure. When it's ready, it'll show the gear selected as the "p" for park or "n" for neutral because those are the only 2 gears are the only ones in which the chutch module will do the set up.
Thanks Daniel for clarifying that. I tried all sorts of things and when I plugged the lights back in it worked so I assumed that must have been the issue. Have you found that this error will clear by just waiting for it to reset by itself or do you use some other process to clear it?
@@Mezzmoengineering Usually, when an extended time without battery is the issue, it'll do it by itself unless that you have something else. In that case you will need a nice scanner
I'm still thinking about it... There is any possibility that you pluged the lights in the back and you or someone else pressed the brake pedal with key in ignition without starting the engine just to check the lights? That's all it needed to set up the clutch and change the three lines on the dashboard to a p or a n.
@@zj5317 Hi Mate, no just a hobby. Have thought about Patreon but not sure on who would be interested. I guess I could give it a go. Someday I'd like to make this my job...
FYI, its not a good idea to rev the engine at all on a first start after rebuild, basically you start let idle for about 15 minutes, then shut down and let it cool down, then restart and you can then slowly bring the engine up to about 2k rpms for a few minutes, shut it down, let it cool off, now restart and let it get to running temperature, go for test drive. Break in period will be for the first 2k miles, follow a engine break in procedure also.
Hi Mate, I've rebuilt many engines and whilst I don't rev them high at first start I find that they wear in better if you change around the load, rpm's etc. Never had an issue....

Great job , Those tools you made on the lathe saved a bunch of headache . ENJOYED !
Hi Mate, yep, I now have a box of special tools I've had to make for the Smart car. Only problem is I'll probably never use them again....
@@Mezzmoengineering I am the same way , I make them special for a job I will never do again ..
There’s other smart owners like myself wanting to do these jobs sell the tools I’ll buy them. We can’t even get rebuild kits in the USA for our cars.

Thanks Matty. I was quoted over $500 for the compressor and was surprised how simple it was in the end with the seal costing approx $40.

Merry Christmas and see you next year. 🎄
LOL, yep no room that's for sure. I thought my old mini was tight but the Smart is on another level. Merry Xmas!
Dude...you should work for NASA!!!
Thanks mate. Maybe I should make some sort of rocket at some stage....
Awsome work very nice
Thanks mate
Lol nice mate well done
Thanks mate
What is year and model of your car
Hi Dee, its a 2012 Smart for Two cabrio with 1.0L non turbo engine...
Hi, I have a smart and I did the same process as you. I just have a question, did you add antifreeze to the engine or just directly to the tank?

Do you have any information as to where I can buy parts ? Looking to do a very similar project I can't find parts anywhere
Hi Mate, yes, parts are very hard to find. Send me an email of what you need and I can see what I have or if I can find it
