I hope this isn't spoilery because Hugh Hammer (Viking looking dude) said it during the episode without identifying who his mother was but I believe it is Princess Saera, daughter of old King Jaehearys. She was banished from Court by the King unfortunately (for reasons) and worked at a pleasure house (or something like that). Princess Saera was sister to Baelon who was Viserys I and Daemon's father. Ulf on the otherhand is bastard son of Baelon so he is half brother to Viserys I and Daemon. So that makes Hugh and Ulf cousins if I am not mistaken.
Incidentally, Vermithor is King Jaehaerys' dragon so his grandson is now Vermithor's rider! While Silverwing is Queen Allysane's (wife of King Jaehaerys). So both dragons claimed by their bastard grandsons! It is soooo cooool!!!

She wasn't banished, she was sent to Old Town to train as a septa after it was discovered she slept with her 3 male friends and forces her 2 female friends to lose their virginities as well, then when confronted about it she laughed and said she could marry all 3 of them because Maegor the Cruel (who murdered both of King Jaehaerys' brothers) had 6. Infuriated, Jaehaerys send her to her room, and just as his wife and best friend managed to calm him down, Saera tried to steal a dragon from the Dragonpit, probably Balerion. Even her mother gave up defending her after that. She was sent to Old Town for punishment as nobody seriously believed her to become a septa, but she run away, whored her way to a ship to Lys, and became a whore.

You are correct, valyrian blood does not equal dragon riding, but targaryen blood does, or that of any other dragon lords but the other houses are extinct
Ulf is Viserys' half brother, hugh is Viserys' cousin. Ulf and hugh are both grandsons of Jaehaerys I and Alysanne, the previous riders of vermithor and silverwing. Ulf and Hugh are cousins to each other. Hughs mother was Saera Targaryen who is likely still alive during and after the dance
Silverwing is one of the kindest dragons that's why she almost said: Ulf, go away before I HAVE to kill you 😂 she's a polite girl
So long story short, Ulf is the bastard son of Baelon, Viserys and Daemon's father, so he is their half brother and uncle to Rhaenyra, Aegon, Aemond, Helaena and Daeron. Hugh would be the bastard son of Saera, Baelon's sister who was disowned from the family and ended up a prostitute, so Hugh is Viserys, Daemon and Ulf's cousin (Rhaenys was also the cousin of all of them). Both Ulf and Hugh are the grandchildren of King Jahaerys (Vermithor's last rider) and Queen Alysanne (Silverwing's last rider), so they both ended up with their grandparents' dragons

Here is a summary of all the dragons:
Vermithor, Silverwing and Seasmoke are the unclaimed dragons at Dragonstone and Seasmoke now has a new rider.
Syrax is Rhaenera's Moondancer is Baela's and Vermax is Jaecarys dragon, which are also at Dragonstone.
Caraxes is Daemons dragon, both are at Harrenhal.
At Kings Landing are Aemonds Vhagar and Helaena's Dreamfyre.
Aegons Sunfyre is wounded but recovering at Rooks Rest.
In Oldtown, Daeron has the blue dragon Tessarion.
Stormcloud and Tyraxes are with Rhaena and the kids at the Eyrie in the Vale
There are also 3 wild dragons: Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost and the Cannibal. Both Grey Ghost and the Cannibal are on Dragonstone and Sheepstealer is the big wild dragon that is feeding on sheep in the Vale.
Arrax and Meyles are the dead dragons at this point.
By my count - Black dragons 7, Green Dragons 3 (if we count Sheepstealer in the Black column, then it will be Blacks 8, Greens 3)

Vermathor and silver wing are a mated pair
Lady Jeyne Arryn had Rhaena send a letter to Prince Reggio of Pentos (at whose home Laena died, he hosted Daemon & family in season 1) requesting sanctuary for Daemon's youngest children and Rhaenyra's boy Joffrey, plus Rhaena herself. Reggio answered that he would take them in, and arrangements were made to take the kids, with guards, to a ship called The Gay Abandon, to Pentos. Rhaena is supposed to look after the children on the journey.
Vermithor must have thought Rhaenyra woke him up for snacks.
Oscar Tully in this episode reminds me of his descendant Robb Stark in Season One Episode 8 of GOT. A young lord earning the respect of his bannermen with a show of strength, and earning their fear with an exemplary act of violence.

20:17 Jace might be a bastard, but he’s still highborn on both sides. His problem is that they’re lowborn. His idea was only hoghborn if you go back to what he said originally. He’s also the same amount of Targaryen as Aemond and Aegon and Helena. Alicent is not Targaryen. He’s also technically legitimate.
Only the king can legitimize a bastard. Vasareys didn't. Because he didn't want to confirm the rumors that Raynears children are bastards. She won't do it for the same reason. Jace can't compete with Hugh. Who looks likes a Targaryen & has the second biggest dragon.

Ulf is fortunate he stumbled upon Silverwing, a dragon who actually likes humans, and not one of the wild dragons who wouldn't have wasted a second making Ulf their snack.
You're right. HOTD does a really good job with building tension, leading to the next big situation. Plus, it helps that the divide of House Targaryean is the main conflict compared to GOT, where the focus was on more than just House Stark.

@@user-kt4to5xs9lSheepstealer is said to rob sheep but never harm the Shepherds. He's not really an aggressive dragon unless he's provoked. His rider in the books was a sheep herder named nettles who would feed him sheep daily to keep him from eating her whole herd. But I feel the show will have Rhaena do something similar. sheepstealer is not familiar with high Valyrian like other dragons. With Rhaena failing at claiming a dragon the traditional way she'll probably use the cunning and nurturing approach as Nettles dis in the books.
Addam probably did not tell Rhaenyra who his father is because his father has never acknowledged him and technically Addam does not have the right to claim Velaryon parentage until he is acknowledged. As far as I know, there have not yet been any Targaryen ancestors specified in Corlys Velaryon's family tree, though it's probable that they exist. There certainly is Velaryon blood in the Targaryen family.
Perhaps Larys wants to become necessary to Aegon's well-being, so valued that Aegon will eventually name him Hand or give him other powers or favor.
Vermithor is literally his grandfather dragon, is like destiny Saera Targaryen his mother was hated by the king Jaehaerys I because she was promiscuous probably addicted to sex
Ulf got lucky. So vermithor & silverwing we’re king jahaerys & queen alysannes dragons they were basically mated & have been like in love with each other forever! Silver wing was said to be the friendliest & most docile dragon ever. So ulf really lucked out. There’s more on their romance but i don’t want to spoil anything we might see it way way later at the end of the war

Silverwing was sent to make Aemond chase her to Dragonstone so Vhagar can get jumped by Dragonstone dragons. lol. Team Black Dragons: Syrax, MoonDancer, Vermax, SIlverwing, Vermithor, SeaSmoke, and Daemon's Caraxces. Keep in mind Dragonstone actually has 2 more wild dragons that they have not mentioned in the show: Cannibal (He eats Targaryen riders that try to ride him LOL - Most dangerous dragon. He was on Dragonstone BEFORE the Targaryen dragons came. He ate several Targaryen dragons lol.) Also, you can include Rhena's new dragon in the Vale: SheepSteeler. So the blacks greatly outnumber the Green's dragons. The Green's also have Dreamfyre (Queen Helena's dragon) and Tasaryon (Daeron's blue dragon that spits BLUE fire).
The Blacks also have Tyraxes (Joffrey's dragon, who is about the same size as the late Arrax) and Stormcloud (little Aegon's baby dragon that we saw in the previous episode).
