Exactly! Almost every reactor I've seen has gotten instantly mad with him and then gone on to not understand why he's so bothered in the first place. Once you understand his point you realise he's 100% valid to be upset and concerned about it all. The issue was having him insult the others first. If the writers wanted the audience to fully sympathise with him, it was a weird move.
Makes sense. Hugh is the grandson of King Jaehaerys, looks the part and-like you said-has a huge dragon. I'm sure many of the lords who never liked Rhaenyra as heir & have whispered about hers over the years wouldn't take much persuasion. Rhaenyra's choice does seem like the only way, short-term, but in the long it could destroy her legacy anyway...
I think he's just projecting his insecurities. He's dealing with a lot of stress, grief, social stigma, and he's 15 year old serving as heir to the throne, war general, air force pilot, diplomat, and support for his mom who is also dealing with all the same shit. Living in a system far more brutal and classist compared to our own. To judge him and his choice of words by the standards of modern day adults who never had to deal with any of it is just absurd.
I love Oscar Tully. He was saying to Daemon in a sly way, follow my lead and take your licks if you want the River Lords to give you their men. At the same time he gained the respect of the River Lords.

And so FATHER to Viscerys and Daemon. That makes Hugh, King Viscerys and Prince Daemon FIRST COUSINS. And Princess Saera is their AUNT by blood. Which means Hugh is Queen Rhaenyra's cousin* Also had his daughter lived, she would've been second cousins with Prince Jace and Rhaenyra's younger children by Daemon.

Jace has a right to be concerned his only proof of legitimacy is his dragon. Rhaenyra is thinking short term instead of the full picture when she dies what will happen if Hugh or Ulf decide they have bigger dragons and more Targaryen blood that they want the throne who is stopping them from starting a full out war with Jace over it especially with how many didn’t want Rhaenyra as Queen people who support them over Jace for that simple reason it would have been all for nothing.
Rhaneyra basically chose getting herself on the throne over her childrens future. All she cares about is the crown. I found this decision to be incredibly selfish and short sighted. I like Hugh though dudes a clear badass.

A dragon only takes a new rider if his previous rider died. So Laenor may have died some time off screen so Seasmoke chose Adam as his new rider.

Rhaneyra basically chose getting herself on the throne over her childrens future. All she cares about is the crown. I found this decision to be incredibly selfish and short sighted. I like Hugh though dudes a clear badass.
