I’ve watched hundreds of golf instructional videos over the years but this was the one that finally got me swinging correctly with consistently. Simple fix but super effective. Was guilty of rolling the club inside with little shoulder turn while arms was doing their own thing and then the flippy impact with chicken wing follow through. NO MORE thanks to this excellent tip!
Wow Kerrod! Great lesson, great drill. Simply explained and easily understood. The difference is remarkable. I took it on to the course this morning at dawn (on a cold UK winter morning!) for 9 holes on my own and really felt as if I made a lot of progress with a good number of quality strikes. It feels like I can get into “the slot” and I’m in a lot more control instead of feeling like every swing was different. Brilliant stuff. I’ll seriously look into your online lessons based on these excellent videos. Thanks.
This is a great video. As player who struggled with too much radial /wrists. Then took them out of the swing the trail elbow move here helps me know what to do when iv finished the take away. I notice improvement in strike consistency, speed, the whole lot really. This is such a help to have this content here on YT 👌
One of the very few instructional pieces that gets to the point-though it could be stronger. The position of the back elbow is the most fundamental key to the whole thing.
Opening up that elbow towards the camera was a great secret I never would have spotted. Feels weird at take off but gets results at impact . Allows so much flexibility to get the 90 degrees. Such brilliant important detail yet again .
Excellent! Across the line has always been a problem for me. I’m itching to use that cross handed drill to keep that trail elbow in the correct position. Thanks much!
I know this is a year old now but it helped me tremendously. It absolutely felt like I was just taking the club halfway back but on video it was a full swing. On top of that it was the first time my impact looked like a pro. Hands forward, shaft lean and pure strike!!!
Great video, drill and concept. Question for the group...can I begin my downswing by using my trail elbow effectively pushing my hips forward toward the target, which drops my hands into the slot, etc.? Sometimes I struggle with which move and thought to begin the downswing. Thanks!
Chris, thank you for this video I hope it's what ails my swing , I'd like to ask because I used to do this without thinking but cannot anymore after a 6 month layoff . But if I imagine my right shoulder rotating clockwise as I make.my backswing and maybe by bicep more horizontal and in line with my pelvis , is that a fair swing thought , I've tried the seam on my shirt and it just for some reason does not resonate with me
Sorry to hear about the layoff. It's important to find a mental image or cue that resonates with you personally, so if visualizing you bicep in line with your pelvis works for you, that's great!
Terrific instruction. Took it on the golf course last Sunday and I have never hit my #3 and #5 hybrids that consistently in 20 years. Thank you Kerrod.
My SwingTweaks coach just recommended this video to me to help me fix my chicken wing at impact, as I tend to bring my trail elbow too far behind me and I log jam at impact and can’t get my arms long. I’m looking forward to trying it out next time I go to the range and hopefully get dialed in for the new season!
Very impressive, insight and reasonable expectations to accomplish task. Where were these insights 20 years ago? Keep your head down and don’t swing so fast, oh and p1 and p4 are very critical!
Been trying to help my budy. I call his right arm move the lawn mower and I can't get him to do a bicep curl either. Hoping the cross hand approach could help.
Many say to lead the downswing with the right elbow, that this automatically shallows the club. But if I try to keep my elbows close together, I find my right elbow almost pinned to my side, to an extent that leading the downswing with it seems difficult. Can you comment on this? Thanks.
I recently began keeping my trail arm ( right elbow ) tucked closer to my body at takeaway for more consistent iron shots...... I find keeping my trail arm close at take-away really helps me , but now I must be " over-doing " it , as now my irons are all working well, but many drives can't seem to get any loft and hook badly from the tee .. how exactly do I know when it's ok to let my right elbow drift up a little further from my body at the top of my back swing? my grip is neutral to weak and my swing path is coming inside to out and my club face must be closing at impact ...not sure what to do to correct it ....thanks

Great feeling for me is to have right arm stay connected for first half of backswing then allow right arm to fold naturally in rest of backswing, which leads to good right elbow position at impact
Wow! I've been working on making a better (full) shoulder turn, and it's hard. I find myself doing what you just showed with getting your hands and elbows behind your body. A terrible move! I'll put your insights to work tomorrow at the range. I have lost whatever swing I had and this will help me get it back. Thank you!
Very different but do a push-up. Flare your arms out and do 10(if you can). Then do 10 with your arms elbows into the body. You’ll feel the lats the triceps back muscles etc not just chest. That’s the feel for me. Weird I didn’t know what I was doing I would drive the ball felt like half swings connected carry 275. Not connected swinging out of my shoes it’s wherever

Great to hear!
Good video. Great cadence. Repeated key points so that it would get through a thick skull (like mine) and emphasized memorable takeaways. Good job.
Thanks: Fixing my trail arm on the backswing has lowered my scores, added control and increased ball striking

Kerrod - Awesome video. One of the best golf videos on YT. Now a subscriber. Wish I had found you years ago. Jim
Wow, thanks!
Great tip with the left hand low. Thanks Kerrod.
Happy to help, Derek!
Superb drill! Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching, mate!
Great video as was working on my trail arm position on course today...simple swing thought as well when playing
Thanks 👍

Kerrod
Great video. I tend to lose it left arm parallel when my arms start to lift to top. I suspect my right arm is not moving properly.
Terrific instruction. Took it on the golf course last Sunday and I have never hit my #3 and #5 hybrids that consistently in 20 years. Thank you Kerrod.
Thank you, mate!
Great video! Does this also work for the driver?
Kerrod - Do you have a video for a player who swings too in to out? Downswing is too shallow and I occasionally get stuck. Thanks. Jim

Great tips
Thanks for visit 👍
A very, very good demonstration and explanation. Than U for this video. I will say one more thing; THIS WORKS for me also.
Glad it helped
Many Thanks 👍
Gold 👍🏼
Excellent. Thank you
You are welcome!
and Thanks for watching 👍
Great video... The right arm and elbow can get in so many positions in the backswing. Changing it is not easy....

Nothing wrong with a short compact swing!
Been trying to help my budy. I call his right arm move the lawn mower and I can't get him to do a bicep curl either. Hoping the cross hand approach could help.
Why do you call it the lawn mower? Let me know how it goes.
tomorrow i will try this
Great!

Freat lesson - But will the club not be too steep?
It shouldn't be, are you having this problem?
Two drills? Left hand low and what’s the second drill?
Feel like I’ve never played golf. I’m struggling with this fix right now. 😢
What are you specifically struggling with?

I know someone who plays golf with the reverse grip.
How well does he strike the ball?
@@jackclothier8530 Just as well as everyone else with a 'normal' grip.
@@MrBarrynicholas I was curious because my grandson starting swinging that way and I been trying to change it!
Vijay Singh is a famous cross handed chipper.
Talk talk talk talk talk
Jesus, too much talking. Get to the drill already!
Please. Just stop explaining so long and much how amateur players do wrong. It is hell of annoying and you learn only how to do things wrongly.
I disagree, but thanks for your feedback. Feel free to skip ahead if you need to.
Go to 8 minute point the rest is a waste of time
