To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. I have problems with anxiety which can trouble me but nothing to compare to that first episode of major depression in my twenties. I have controlled my anxiety with medication and therapy since 2005 and can have long periods of stability that stretch into years. However in my fifties I was again hit with a major depression which has been prolonged by two major bereavements. Thankyou so much for sharing your experiences.

We were told that if we felt we weren't getting enough to eat, our doctors would give us ensure. And, if we were caught doing it again, we'd be locked in that solitary padded room.

Another thing learned-- don't try other people's medications. Been there myself. You hear about many peoples positive experiences and want to give it a go.
I am so suicidal most days from tapering my ativan, but the Ect doctor won't give me Ect unless I am completely off of them...kind of like your experience with Lamictal. It's all documented on my channel. 6 years of this..I'm running out of steam.

You are correct. Sleep is necessary for healing. One of my clients was only sleeping 2 hours a night. Then she took a medication called Seroquel which broke the pattern of insomnia so she could sleep again. There are many good medications for sleep that are not habit forming. I suggest that you make an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner and work with them to find a medication that helps you to sleep.

of course all these are not nice stories, but its to be recommended that while an in patient a behaviour therapist should mobilise the patient which must be arranged first withthe doctor in charge and the therapist would work delegated by the doctor. thats how it is done in the uk often much improving the patient unless someone is crminal there are no locked wards which is a extrya burden on the patient causing trauma as well. so the uk rpocedure is that apart from goog staff, there is a behaviour therapist teaching the patient how to cope best and also does exercise which is crucial for the patient to recover - exercie is nature s antidepressant use all the possibilities i e medication, exercise, supportive persons etc as well as exercise: behaviour therapy is also a very good idea:

Lol this interviewer is way too imposing and invasive. The aggression and fast pace are not really appropriate for the topic which is depression and many people watching this are not looking for an exercise video/action packed session. Thus the content is good but the interview style and format are not fitting for the purpose of this video.

I am a believer of God & have strong faith values.
      Depression does not discriminate.
Mine has come on by several losses ( mamas death, loss of job, loss of 2 toxic relationships, anticipation of loss of pet who has just been diagnosed with lymphoma, anticipated loss of childhood home ).
All of this is too much for me to bear at age 52.
I have had mild depression off & on since I was a teenager.
All of these losses are all so overwhelming, top that with several health issues, a hysterectomy, a skin infection for 4 months, MENOPAUSE, loss to death of 3 friends in past 5 years......just OVERWHELMING !
How to make the pain stop?!
I pray every day to Jesus Christ my saviour & God.
      Depression is the anti-Christ !!!

Boyet, no disrespect but if you read the bible you will find that a lot of people mentioned suffered from depression. The prophet Elijah after he won a great victory against the prophets of Baal became afraid and depressed and ran away because Jezebel who was very wicked and worshipped Baal threatened to have Elijah killed for his victory over her prophets. There are others mentioned. Even the Lord Jesus himself before the cross cried out in agony at the thought of his coming suffering. Yet he went anyway and so offered us eternal life.
