Great review! I can't wait for this paddle as I am a strong player who foolishly purchased the Mod TA15. The first few games I played with it, I've never played better/had more fun. HOWEVER (and this has often been referenced), as it broke-in it has become completely unplayable (bitterly collecting dust on a shelf). Yes, the mod gets hotter, but as 25 yr tennis player I'm accustomed to adjusting my strokes to match a rack/string. What was not possible to manage was how INCONSISTENT it become the more it broke in. There is fundamental flaw mechanically with the Joola core tech whereas as it breaks-in, it creates a vertical spring board effect that is so inconsistent (same short, next shot long). I'm hoping the Ripple R1.14's vertical core internal structure will prevent this awful/inconsistent spring board issue. These rackets are amazing if a mfg can control for consistent play over time (ala gen 2 rackets). Fingers crossed the 1.,14 is that (as I'm willing to try as the feel/power on these rackets is so great)
Luca BRAVO ! I am waiting for my R2.14 Ripple as I type this. Just made me even more anxious to get it. Thank you, Sir, wonderful review. Awesome review! Definitely has me excited to get my hands on one. Although, one thing I was really hoping you'd touch on was the "break-in" that tends to happen with foam paddles. Pickleball Studio mentioned that after a couple weeks of play, it starts getting way more springy and FAR more difficult to control. Did you not test it for that long? Or did you just not notice a bad break-in?
The Pickleball Studio experience of one Ripple becoming excessively hot appears to be an outlier. I'm on the Ronbus discord server, where many Ripple owners comment. It's still early, so we'll see how things play out, but to date, it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.
I didn't find the break-in to be nearly as drastic as on other foam paddles. I think it's because the Carbon Grid provides a more solid backboard which stops the foam from breaking down as quickly.
The thing that atopped me from getting this beast paddle is that everyone says it gets hotter and hotter to the point where its just the gearbox. If it could stay at its starting power i would snap get it. Got the esqc 12.7 instead to play it safe

I have a similar gen 3 paddle in the Pickln Alecto3 (different core layup as the Alecto3 just uses additional perimeter foam like the Joola Gen 3) and it really does have a noticeable difference in power over my Ronbus FX R1. That said, I find myself going back to my FX frequently because the learning curve is pretty high with these foam core paddles.
@kabob21 it's really tough to shop for paddles right now as more "gen 3" paddles are coming out. And with different definitions and technologies, it's hard to really identify which ones are worth their price. Honestly, I don't think I can ever see myself dropping more than $200 for a paddle with my budget. The FX still seems like a really solid choice, though!
I'd be curious how the paddle is after 20 hours of play time. I had the original Joola Gen 3 and liked it the first few days, then it just got hotter and hotter to where I couldn't control it as it broke in. I hear a lot of the foam paddles are the same. There's so many good ones, that it's hard to get a hold of them for us paddle nerds and I feel bad buying one and returning it after just a few play sessions to these smaller companies.
I played with it for about 10 hours and noticed not as much of a change in playability compared to other foam paddles I've tested. I think this has to do with the Carbon Grid reinforcing the foam but I will play with it for longer and update in the future. Shipping out demos gets very difficult for a small operation like we currently have. I don't think we'll be able to do it yet but hopefully one day.

@@Everheartt It depends how much spin you can afford to lose playing your game. Most people play better with their paddle several weeks after starting with a loss of 15 to 20% spin. If you are serious changing your paddle every 6 months is not a bad idea for peak performance.

How much better can these paddles actually get? I mean what makes a good paddle at this point the paddles are too powerful. The sweet spots on paddles are huge and they hit so hard. And they all have crazy spin as well.
I'm just wondering if the very best paddles under $100 can play 90% as well as this Ronbus. I just can't justify spending the kind of cash to get the best, and I'll happily settle for 10% less performance if I can get it at $100 or less. Any thoughts anybody?
In terms of making you better, no paddle will really do that. That said, the difference in playability (not just performance) is astronomical between this and any other paddle especially ones under 100$.
First off, it's pretty evident that you're a damn good pickleball player. You should do some instructional videos on pickleball spin generation technique (at least). It's very evident that the Ripple allows you to maximize your existing tennis skills! I'm in the 4.0 to 4.5 range and have been playing with the Ripple for two weeks now. Let me just say that I've been a bit of a paddle junkie- I've owned 16 and have played with over 100. The Ripple is definitely a game changer! I come more from table tennis than tennis so I've been drawn to softer paddles, The Six Zero Ruby 16mm was my go to and before that it was the original Engage Pursuit EX 6.0. The Ripple feels BETTER than those two- even to a table tennis guy who likes softer paddles because they feel more like table tennis paddles. Because it is still so controllable, I want to say the Ripple is all-court on the more extreme side of power. Off-center hit consistency is excellent = very forgiving and shot predictable. My paddle demo days may be over! I would say this one could also be good for 3.5ers but they might require more time to adjust to it. THANK YOU for a great review- spot on!
I'm concerned about the life expectancy of the interior foam. When I did background research before purchasing my first proper tennis shoe (for pickleball) I was shocked to discover how quickly the foam breaks down in modern shoes. For optimal performance, an extremely active player needs to replace $200 shoes every two or three months. Don't even bother purchasing a discounted shoe from the previous sales year. After a year on the shelf, the foam is already degrading. If you plan to play the shoe into the dirt in a few short months, go ahead. But if you plan to keep the shoe for a year, the foam will be substandard by the end of the year (two shelf years), even if you hardly use the shoe. In every product I have ever purchased which contains foam, the foam is the first construction element to degrade and disappoint. It's good for objects with consistently high levels of use, so the natural replacement cycle is less than two years, but not insanely high levels of use that wear the foam out in weeks or months. Luca says he has no incentive to sell this paddle rather than another paddle. But if foam paddles have a short optimal life expectancy, he has a _huge_ incentive to sell twice as many foam paddles as longer-lived paddles lacking foam. BTW, all that stands between me and a demo paddle from Luca's shop is an annoying ferry trip. That said, I want to love this paddle. The titanium fiasco dulled my appetite for new construction materials, including kevlar. I know carbon fiber, I like carbon fiber. My appetite for new materials is at a low ebb after the titanium fiasco. I'm a control player moving into the 4.0 level fairly quickly. My last paddle was super control oriented (TMPR Tantrum GXT). I actually want to change horses and challenge myself to master pace rather than precision. I want to force my hand to master a reactive paddle rather than an easy paddle. I do _not_ want to spring for a CDN $340 paddle that is only half of its former self six months later, because foam.
The 16mm model failed the test. That’s why they’re only a14mm right now. It probably passed due to being so light out of the box. Adding weight is a must for this paddle.
I don't believe that the ball is heavy enough to cause a "spring affect" with a pickleball paddle. You need weight and time on the paddle face for that. Let me guess...This guy sells paddles... :)
“I can end points more quickly”. These Gen 3+ paddles are gonna make the game less fun, especially for those who don’t want to pay over $200 to get them.

@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball have the R1 and R2. I didn’t like how they played for me until I added some perimeter weighting. Now they’re great paddles.
Very interested, but core crushing is a potential issue that I’m worried about
Part of the beauty of the Carbon Grid core is that it is nearly impossible to core crush.
Joola was partially crushing the gen 3 paddles from the factory by using oversize cores in the press to thermoform them. Nobody else does that and even Joola doesn't do that with their 3S paddles
when is this getting released?
We received our first inventory last week but sold out very quickly. The next batch should be here in 3 weeks.
great review man
Thank you!
How does the R2 shape compared to the R1?
It's a wide body long handle shape!

@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Found the link and signed up for notification on restock cant wait. Thank you guys for giving Canada somewhere to get the best paddles!!!
Is this a gen 2 or gen 3 paddle?
Ronbus calls it Gen 4 on their product page. Most reviewers are comparing it with Gen 3. To me it seems like Gen 3.5.
@@BenjaminAndersonPickleball not sure if this true but maybe you could clarify. I was recently told a gen 3 paddle would certainly have to be replaced before 6 months of use playing at 10 hours a week. A gen 2 paddle would likely last more than 6 months. Is this true? I’m worried about spending $250 and having to replace the paddle under 6 months
@@Everheartt It depends how much spin you can afford to lose playing your game. Most people play better with their paddle several weeks after starting with a loss of 15 to 20% spin. If you are serious changing your paddle every 6 months is not a bad idea for peak performance.
Gen 4 is a better description than Gen 3. Unless we want to consider all other Gen 3’s as developer/beta designs. This one is fully developed… it just works
@@AlexPennington-t8i how long do you think it will last? I play 10 hours a week. Would be optimal to get more than 6 months out of it. A year and I would be very happy
Will there be a 16 version?
Hopefully, but for now the 16 didn't pass the USAP tests.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball thanks.. im currently using the J2K Pro which i am enjoying... would the ripple be that much faster?
Has Beckett picked-up Pickleball?! I've done so myself this past month!
It seems he has. Pretty darn good too!
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball it's just too easy for friends with no tennis or any other racketsport background to pick-up and play. Then, it gets addictive! Whatever gets people of the couch, out there and play, I'm all in.-
Good review!!
Thanks!
Where are these courts?
Burnaby!
No. The best paddle right now is the MODTA-15 and everytime I use it it validates this statement … incredible paddle
What is the grip diameter measurement?
4.125
4.125
How much better can these paddles actually get? I mean what makes a good paddle at this point the paddles are too powerful. The sweet spots on paddles are huge and they hit so hard. And they all have crazy spin as well.
I don't know what could be better than the Ripple right now.
R2 vs j3k?
Worth a comparison for sure but I'd like to compare the foam paddles first.
Wish it was 16mm for a little more control
Get the Nova if you want more control
The 16mm model failed the test. That’s why they’re only a14mm right now. It probably passed due to being so light out of the box. Adding weight is a must for this paddle.
But maybe they will work on a 16mm that's legal
I hope one day but for now only the 14 is legal.
Is the play testing footage just of you kicking your friend's ass?!? 🤣
😂😂😂
If the ripple has less dwell time why does it have more spin than the Joola gen 3
Because of that grabbier feel I mention in the review.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball was that due to grit of the paddle or something else?
Mine broke after the first session. Was super disappointing :(
Sorry to hear that but warranty should still be valid!
So when can the general public buy this thing?
We received our first batch last week and sold out almost instantly, the next paddles should be in in 3 weeks.
I don't believe that the ball is heavy enough to cause a "spring affect" with a pickleball paddle. You need weight and time on the paddle face for that. Let me guess...This guy sells paddles... :)
These are just imitating Gen 3's, bad for the game. Way too powerful
Didn't mention durability. Pickleball Studio had a lot of concerning experiences with it
I had no issues after a week and a half of play
You remind me of Nicholas cage
My brother in Christ those shorts are too damn short.
the best paddle ever is already taken by spartus apollo/olympus
tell me you havent hit this paddle without telling me lol (ive hit all 3)
@@tanpen15 I have this Ronbus as prototype, ev version. Too poppy and powerful, also sweet spot is smaller.
Wish I could try it
Calling Kevlar Gen 3 is just lulzy. The ripple is Gen 3. Using the term "Gen 4" is straight comical.
Agreed, the Ripple is a Gen 3 paddle.
Whatever the hell is that thing! What are they even playing?
“I can end points more quickly”. These Gen 3+ paddles are gonna make the game less fun, especially for those who don’t want to pay over $200 to get them.
Maybe. I think they create more of a skill gap which is generally a good thing IMO
Yes, but do you like it? s/ You’re making it hard not to want this one!
😅
Too expensive. The manufactures are greedy.
Sounds like you have intimate knowledge of the Ripple's cost line sheet as well as r&d. Care to share?
My only complaint would be the design.. That thing is awful 😅
😅
we use paddles maybe a couple of months? aesthetics are not a concern
