    I, myself, didn't pay enough attention to the recoil spring rotation placement, as the slide was not going back all the way upon reassembly, and it looked like the guide rod was being very awkwardly pulled in one direction when pulling the slide back. I had removed the recoil spring and guide rod, not paying attention to its orientation, and upon reinserting, I worriedly noticed some flat portions on the circular plate that I assumed went flat against the barrel. Wrong. If you look at the guide rod where it meets the barrel, there are two holes in the plate that holds the guide rod in place. Those holes should be vertical with gun, not horizontal, so quarter turn 90 degrees will get the barrel to properly reinsert and slide all the way back to lock. I found the answer "randomly" on SigTalk after someone had already helped OP. I probably should have read the manual.

      Dude I had this problem before (when field stripping and not taking out the whole trigger assembly) and because I knew what few steps I did I was able to trace the issue back to the positioning or orientation of the guide rod….
      So this time …. After taking everything out, trigger assembly and all, and having a tiny little rod fall to the floor when taking it out, I could NOT understand what I did and why it was not simply reassembling right so I could get the the slide to fit right again and get into lock position. I scrambled around and was about to give up until this commented reminded me…. :). What a weird issue. The whole guide rod never seemed right the first time I opened it. It looked like it wasn’t secure enough or could fail somehow easily

      Exactly, if you cant get your slide back all the way, this is the reason. Rotate spring assembly 1/4 turn.

    Highly useful video, thanks for posting. I observed this with a new Sig M17 that the pistol can be put back together in such a manner where the trigger will not engage. The position of the takedown lever is important to avoiding this. I find it helpful to retract the slide all the way and engage the slide stop before rotating the takedown lever back into it's horizontal position. It is a very nice shooting pistol.

      @@URBJK totally agree. My p320 is going back to Sig for the 2nd time. After coming back the first, I cannot field strip the pistol without pulling the trigger. Something is amiss.
      Also, under stress this video proves that it's very easy to reassemble the pistol into a paper weight. No thanks.

    I've also noticed on my full size, that if the takedown lever isn't inserted all the way into the FCU the same thing happens. if it's not right up against the grip module, sticking out like a 1/16th of a inch this happens. make sure the takedown lever is inserted the way in the firearm before rotating countercloclock wise back to it normal position.

    Man, I know I'm late to this party, but for the last 15 minutes, I have been flabbergasted. I went from a Glock 20 to my current P320/M17 and had just disassembled for the first time. I put it back together and ran a dry fire function check sans magazine, and noticed something was off with the trigger reset. I was getting a VERY minor, and barely audible, click, with no feeling behind it. So I tried and tried again, with the trigger/firing mechanism obviously not setting correctly. I disassembled again and found your video. Right as it started, I reassembled only to have it working, but had no clue what I'd done differently. Finished your video anyway out of curiosity, and that HAD to be my issue, no question about it. Guess my Sig is a bit more anal regarding reassembly than the Glocks were! Anyway, I appreciate the insight, hopefully I can avoid the issue going forward.

    Wife got me the Sig P320 for Christmas (She did her research and was aware of the voluntary recall). When I disassembled the P320, The first thing I noticed was the magazine not seating after reassembly. I did check the Sig website to see if this was part of the recall; which it wasn’t. Then I found your video which definitely cleared up the issue. I do have a quick question that perhaps you could answer. when “reassembling” I noticed that the sear catches (pops up) on the upper when “sliding it back!” Is this common and or is this part of the recall to fix that issue. Either way I generally have to finesse it back, I see it being an issue in a dire situation and or causing damage or possibly breaking the sear. Thanks in advance for any input.

    Another thing worth noting, some build kits were shipped out with 1 of the 2 sear springs missing. I was able to order one from sigsourparts. I would also suggest everyone working on the FCU and small parts use a magnetic tray for all the bits and pieces. (The pins and springs) They're so small and very easy to lose. Anyone with experience building receivers who's dropped a detent or spring knows exactly what I'm saying. Carpet will eat them and tile or concrete will bounce them into another dimension. Really.
    Last thing, the very bottom back pin that holds the safety/sear housing in the FCU/MUP fell out for the second time and is now missing.
    Be aware of all the pins/springs etc if/when you pull the FCU from the grip module. Don't want a vital part falling out or off the system causing a failure or even worse an injury to the shooter or bystander.
    Phenomenal weapon and overall a relatively easy process from start to finish. I found the JSD Supply 3D animated AutoCAD videos to be the most concise and practical for myself, which were the only ones available back when I was doing all this anyway. Truthfully they're easier to follow than the more recent ones people are posting with all their commentary and fumbling/bumbling lol.

    When you are dry firing with the slide off and said it's a unique feature to P320, it seemed as of the sear drops once the trigger is depressed beyond a certain point, just like a double action hammer, but on mine, the sear doesn't pop back until I release the trigger. Am I seeing it correctly on your video??

  • @CM-ve1bz
    @CM-ve1bz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the p250 before the p320. The p250 doesn't require the slide catch be engaged on reassembly. Just push the side back far enough to rotate the takedown lever and good to go.
    It didn't take long to figure out that didn't work on the 320.

    My pelt2 trigger, if I rotate and remove slide, if I pull the trigger it will not reset. And if I pull the trigger forward it will have a heavy friction. I have to lift the slide lock up then something clicks and trigger works perfectly. Gun works fine as long as I don't pull trigger with slide off..have no idea what is causing that

    Thank you I accidentally pulled the trigger on mine while cleaning the gun and wiping down the trigger guard and this happened or it was a coincidence either way you saved me...

    I recently bought a P320, took it apart, cleaned it, reassembled, and had this issue. My concern is it seems to have changed the feel of the trigger. I remember the trigger being crisp and clean, which it still feels if I use the trigger without the slide on as you showed. When the slide is on it feels mushy and I can physically see the slide moving around when the trigger breaks. Is there something else that I may have effected by reassembling incorrectly?

      @AlmaCole  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +keener713 Try inserting a magazine with a snap cap and then dry firing. The magazine removes much of the play between the slide and frame. If you removed the triggerbar spring it's possible that you could have deformed the triggerbar spring. Instructions on what it should look like can be found here th-cam.com/video/jmflAN180dc/w-d-xo.html

      +Alma Cole Unfortunately Academy doesn't carry 9mm snap caps, just every other major caliber. I didn't take the triggerbar spring off and the spring doesn't look bent. I messed around with it some more and put the fcu on the slide without the grip and the trigger felt perfect. However I did this again with the takedown lever installed and it felt mushy again. I'm gonna take it to the store I bought it from tomorrow to see if they have any idea.

    Put mine back together properly. Trigger is really crunchy on takeup. Almost like a 3 stage trigger now. When I pull the slide back, it feels great. No grit on takeup. Any ideas?
    Also, the takedown lever is near impossible to move. My fingers are bleeding. I try to manipulate the guide rod, but doesn't make it much easier.

    Do you have the Bruce gray fat guide rod? Ever since I've got that rod my slide stop won't lock when re assembling. I have to hold the slide back and hit the slide release while holding the slide back

    I found another way to fix this issue because I just got a 320 and was sure I broke it and was anxious to say the least.
    On the new slides (2022) at least they a have notch halfway down the slide you can hit the slide release up when you have your slide half back like a press check and you’ll hear it click out of the way and you’re good to go

    What about if I can insert a magazine but the trigger still doesn’t engage. I am using a pre-drop safety 3.9” slide on an X Compact medium grip module.

    This happens when someone tries to reassemble it without locking the slide back first before rotating the take down lever. That procedure hasn’t changed for any P model.
    Honestly not sure why people think its a ‘stupid’ design. The purpose for the drop-in fire control unit was for modularity. Not so someone can save a few seconds from field stripping and reassembly.

    • @Mccxjordan
      @Mccxjordan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pull your slide back halfway like a press check and push the slide release up on that extra notch cut on the sides for it to clear this malfunction

    I've a brand new Sig P320 full size. The take down lever is so hard I have finger cuts and blood blisters trying to take the slide off and yes I know the correct method. I'm going to Sig on the issue. I'm waiting for the takedown lever to break with the force necessary to try to take the slide off. This is Sig quality ??

    • @AlmaCole
      @AlmaCole  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Walter Palmer lock back the slide and try moving the guide rod up or down, then try the takedown again.

    • @walterpalmer2749
      @walterpalmer2749 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thank you. I tried all that and to no avail. Peculiar. I've sent it back to Sig for them to figure out. Probably a simple fix or a replacement on the take down lever. Who knows. Thank you for this video. It's a great help.

    Great video, very informative. I just disassembled/reassembled my p320 compact after her first day at the range and followed all your instructions. Everything seems fine but when I dry fired it for the first time and the trigger pulled but didn’t have the same sounding click...I sounds a little dull (if that makes sense). Like a wonky spring sound. I’m nervous about firing with live rounds. Am I overthinking it?

    The very 1st thing you did when you pull the slide forward to disassemble it. I did the same thing to my P320 and when I went to reassemble the guide spring wouldn't go in all the way. What happened?

    Bought the gun brand new and the slide ain’t even on right it’s sitting a little back and I had that problem but still don’t know how to get the lever front if it’s still blocking when the slide back on. So when I get the slide on it’s blocking the magazine so the mag now doesn’t fit
