Dang, Ash is pushing out the vids! Thanks, Ash. You keep filming them, we’ll keep watching! Great stuff.
Also, that’s a very nice pair of shoes. I’m not much of a loafer fan. I prefer oxfords, derby’s, and derby boots. But I’ve been considering a pair of loafers recently, and this vid is food for thought.
Just thinking of all the effort you put into these videos Ash. Another really interesting episode. Thanks!
Le calzature inglesi rappresentano da sempre lo stile , la classe , la qualita'.
Bellissimi i mocassini Thomas Bird .
Un saluto dall'Italia.
My favourite style of shoe, the Loafer. I bought my first pair in 1971, they were ox blood colour with tassels, and cost £15; a weeks wages for me back then. Wearing those with two tone trousers cut 1" above the shoe to display bright yellow socks, Career Club heavy check shirt, a dash of Aramis aftershave, and I was the man....Oh yeah.
I have a shallow pocket too. --------- Gentleman's notch, I've always wondered about those little things on the heals.
this is a new Co to me, and always interesting to hear of new kit
I've been thinking about adding a pair of suede penny loafers to my shoe collection, Ash, and these loafers made by Thomas Bird look quite smart.
I picked up a pair of their loafers in chestnut along with a matching belt and polish. I live in the US and almost all the stores and companies I found online have shoes made in China or other asian countries. I really wanted Italian or English shoes and found them. I have only worn them once briefly so far. But was blown away with the quality! Everything even comes in it’s own suede pouch. I’ve been watching your watch videos so this is a cool crossover!
In fact the DHL shipping arrived in 2 days all the way to me!! I ordered other stuff at the same time on 2,000mi away and it took nearly a week
Saw your like, edited for typo and now it’s gone - (sorry!)
Great video, shame they follow the usual path with no wide sizes, however.
Brand looks good, reminds me of Oliver Sweeney who I use, same price point as well
I’m happy to see a new company in this area. We need to be able to have new businesses as well as the heritage brands. These new designs are certainly eye catching. My hope for Thomas Bird would be that in the long run they can might some excess manufacturing capacity in the UK to work with, and keep moving the British shoe industry forward. Thanks for the review Ash, I will certainly be keeping an eye on this brand.
Interesting review of a brand that's new to me - thanks for sharing, Ash.
Very interesting episode Ash. I'm intrigued by the shoes which are new to me. I think it's a good idea to flag new products which are purely interesting to you and deserve an honest review. May you continue with more of the same as I'm sure many value your judgement by now.
Great video and good luck to TB. Maybe they could look at doing some goodyear shoes, made locally too!
Interesting looking shoe lineup. I’m not in need of anything right now but I will check them out.
Hi Ash, I follow your channel since years. Maybe it would be worth investing into a new camera. Somehow 1080p looks on your videos looks not as good as it is the case with bigger TH-cam channels.
Love watching your content!
Greatings from Germany!
I got a pair of blue double monkstraps from Thomas Bird. I think it cost me $350 dollars. I was impressed with them, not just for the shape but the leather felt a little thicker or firmer than other shoes. I will getting some suede boots from them soon & probably some whole cuts later
I have two pairs of penny loafers. One from Bass Weejuns and the oter are Sebagos. Bass Weejuns quality isn´t good (needless to say I´ve bought their cheaper "Easy Weejuns" line simply because I wanted something with rubber sole) and they are very narrow. Wouldn´t recomend for that price...Sebago Classic Dan pair on the other hand is fantastic, their sole style is a bit slippery but the shoes are really comfortable.
Thomas Bird shoes scream Mods, not my cup of tea. Glad to see some loafers vid from Ash though :)
Nice but how many cobblers would do a good job of repair, con they easily be re soled? Or is it a case of can’t stick a new sole on top of a part rubber sole.
Love when companies take on a heritage persona, make TWA great again 😊
Good value for a penny 👍
I was super excited to check these out, then I noticed they don't offer my sizing at all. Then again I have tiny feet. I'm in the 6, 6.5 and 7 range depending on brand. I wish more brands both lower end and higher end catered towards the gent with a smaller frame.
I’m guessing you have to deal with a lot of disappointment trying to find shoes in these sizes…the volume of sales in these sizes are low, so even amongst established brands I’d imagine stock is limited and not often replenished. I’d bet, however, that Thomas Bird would love to sell you a pair of shoes, especially as a new brand. Perhaps consider emailing them and asking if they’ll do a special order. The brands that commission their products from established factories (Herring, J. Fitzpatrick, Cobbler’s Union, Thomas Bird, etc) are required to buy leather from the tanneries for delivery to the production factories before production without knowing what sales are going to be, so it’s all just an educated guess based on past and projected sales. You might be pleasantly surprised after an email, or phone call, exchange. And if you are, please let us all know!
@@Maitreya0208 I would definitely consider doing that thank you. Also, at this point I'm lucky because in more classic styles I can go with unisex shoes and buy the ladies sizing as those fit me perfectly for the most part. But honestly? I would love a pair of blue brogues I think that would look killer!
Great looking shoes Ash. I have been looking for a pair of penny loafers in suede. By the way I just saw that King Charles III granted a Royal warrant to Holland & Holland. Cheers Ron
Ash, could I have your opinion on the Cheaney Arthur III brogue in plough suede? Better than Loake?
Much better tghan Loake (and more expensive). The Arthur III is a great shoe, well worth adding to the collection.
I'm always wary of companies that trade on being British but have nothing in reality to do with the uk.
Other shoe manufacturers that do this are huttons of northampton and Bewick that seem to trade on an Anglo sounding name.
Greetings,
How do you publish a new video almost daily?
I tended to do it in 2021/2022.
It became quite difficult.
Is there a way to make it less taxing?
Sincerely.
It is a passion sir.
Sorry but I'm just not a fan of that bright blue rubber patch on the sole. Strange choice of colour.
Shallow pockets....says the man who's just bought a £6K watch?
That’ is why I could afford it sir.
@@TheChapsGuide It's interesting how we all follow the same underlying principle (good dress/presentation) but apply it in quite different ways - I wasn't having a go at you! Watches are intrinsocally interesting (I'm an engineer) but I'd take 12 pairs of Tricker's over one watch....I don;t and won;t own a dozen pairs of Tricker's, as much as I like them!
I wonder why they're called "Thomas Bird", they're based in London and they're "operating out of Northamptonshire" and yet they don't: they're Italian made, none of these shoes is made In England. It leaves a stale taste in the mouth: the company have their shoes made in another country and yet they're cashing in on British heritage.
It is not clear that they have any connection with London at all. They seem to be just another company sticking their name on shoes made by a large factory in Italy. That doesn't make the shoes bad at all but this is really just a marketing company not a shoemaker. I'd prefer to buy from an actual shoemaker.
