Tried leaving a comment but it got wiped off TH-cam lol. But an average tv to look out for is the sharp 27sc26b, or any of the many like it. It's like a jvc d series with smaller speakers, but strangely it has a 16:9 mode, and screen tilt rotation. Dangerouscousin has posted how to turn off edge enhancement on those curved 27" sharps. The 27sc26b has a Sharp branded tube too.
Awesome! Thanks for the info. I will look into how to turn off the edge enhancement. I was curious about the endge enhancement and the type of tube so thanks again. I definitely didn't wipe your comment. I only do that when people advertise some weird product like nail polish or whatever in my comments. Seems like TH-cam has been wiping a lot of comments lately.

Your absolutely right about looking at the grid vs the 240p menu for geometry stuff. I swear that grid will play tricks on you if you stair at it too long
Not much to say, it looks like a decent TV, but I just wanted to thank you for making videos about consumer sets. It feels like most videos are about PVMs / BVMs, which I am sure are great, but they are just getting too expensive these days, and I prefer the larger sizes of consumer sets anyways.
Great video Riggs, eventually the Sony Trinitrons will dry up and CRTs like this will still be available. I’ve got 7 Sony Trinitron Wega CRTs now in my basement/game room including 2 36 inch models with stands. I’m having to stop picking them up due to lack of space even know I hate not snatching them.
I have maxed out my space as well. What I do now is pick up any tv I want but after I pick one up I have to drop one off at the dump. Sadly I had to drop this Sharp off at the dump. I had a couple bad experiences giving them away.
Thanks for this video. It helped me get one when I had the chance this weekend and in amazing condition! Looks great with my PlayStation 2 through component!
I picked one of these up a few weeks ago and honestly, I couldn't believe how great the picture was. Fantastic geometry, crazy sharp (for real). I ended up getting rid of it because I have too many CRTs already. And yes, these suckers are a bit heavier then 27" Sonys by a good bit.
If it's like certain models of the larger Toshiba AF series there's a cable inside that can be unplugged to disable velocity modulation. Be sure to unplug the TV and discharge the tube before doing so.
I have a sharp xflat as well. I got mine from a sweet old lady near my school who said they would feel bad if they junked it because the picture was good. I snagged it and I love it to pieces. I would only trade it for a 27 inch wega Trinitron, but even then, I think it wouldn’t be much of an upgrade. I can’t play Wii, ps2 or N64 on any other tv now.
I actually grew up with Sonys and I always do a double take whenever I see one of those bubble tubes in real life because I never imagined that other Tvs could look that much different.
I had a 27" sony fs100 knock-off branded Citizen tv given to me a few years ago. Having once owned a real Sony kv-32fs100, I was not expecting much of a picture. However, I was very impressed once i cleaned it and hooked up the ps2 via component!
Cool man. Thanks for sharing. I get surprised once in awhile with cheap tvs too. Some have really good tubes in them. There isn't a lot of info out there on some of these cheaper tubes. You should do a review on your Ciizen tv.

I ahve the same tv but theres verticle distortion on the left and right sides about 4 inches from the each side and its really noticable with horizontal scrolling. How coukd i fix it? Or make it better?
I heard that late model CRTs (like 2000s and after) that were in the same competitive price bracket of the time as trinitrons are nearly if not equally as good

I am about to pick up one of these tomorrow to replace an Insignia 24" I currently have. I am looking for something with noticeable scanlines. I know it's not going to be a Trinitron, but are the scanlines acceptable at least? Will you notice them slightly?
I'm confused on why you would want to turn edged enhancement off ? Wouldn't you prefer a sharper image? I just wanted to hear your opinion on the topic
It looks wack. It isn't real sharpness (like what you get with a higher line count monitor). It's more like pseudo sharpness. It looks like someone went over all the sprites and outlined them with a sharpy. It's one of the few things that all CRT gamers agree on-turn off the edge enhancement.
When you say low end set I think Citizen, Sears, Orion. I imagine most brands that have component connections will have a overall decent picture. Only Sony has the wow factor though.
I almost grabbed an orion the other day...I have seen low end tubes with component video that have a ,"screen door pattern ". You can actually do it by eye and just try and match intensity but your better with a blue gel filter. Any blue gel is going to be better than using your eye. If they are cheap I would say buy a lighter and a darker one and use whichever one works best. I ended up using the darker of my two.
