10 Easy Ways to Train a Naughty Dog

- Do you have a puppy? If you really adore your puppy but his barking, chewing, and incorrect behaviors are driving you crazy, there’s no need to despair! Not everyone has the resources to get their puppies professionally house-trained, but luckily, there are lots of things you can do at home to get the job done. To ensure you aren’t left at the end of your rope or, um, leash, keep watching to learn the do’s and don’ts of puppy training.
Puppies can present quite a lot of challenges to new pet owners (or even to experienced pet owners!) since every puppy comes with their own set of behaviors and personality traits. Despite a bit of mischief, puppies can be a great addition to your family and will be trained in no time if you follow these recommendations.

SUMMARY:
- If you yell, you risk damaging the precious bond you have with your puppy. Dogs are very in tune with humans, so an increase in your tone of voice could stress him out and make him more anxious.
- The big puppy dog eyes looking up at you might deter you from saying anything to your puppy when he misbehaves. However, to teach him good behavior, you need to be firm.
- Using or threatening pain are never good ways to house-train your puppy. These behaviors only teach dogs to fear their owners and to lose the natural trust they have in you.
- Next time your puppy’s raucous barking is driving you over the edge or you catch him being too rough with another pet, simply put him in a dog crate or take him to a location he’ll find boring.
- If you were speaking to a child who’d misbehaved, eye contact would be important to emphasize the seriousness of the situation. But to a dog, direct and prolonged staring can be threatening, so it’s not an effective method to educate him.
- When a puppy plays with other puppies and bites too hard, the other dog will yelp, which causes the biter to release the bite. If a puppy bites you, you can recreate this yelp to teach him that it’s not OK.
- A puppy needs a very strict routine to become potty-trained. A dog’s digestive system can be very regular, and they tend to need to relieve themselves 5-30 minutes after eating.
- If yesterday you gave the puppy a time-out for unnecessary barking and today you’re letting it slide, the puppy will get mixed signals and won’t learn to correct the behavior.
- If you come home to discover that your darling puppy knocked over a precious vase and you try to reprimand him for something he did an hour ago, the puppy will have no idea why he’s being admonished. You need to punish a behavior when you catch him doing it.
- Puppies need to learn when they misbehave and when they do things properly. For a puppy to understand not only bad things but good ones, it’s necessary to educate with this 2-fold approach.

My best dog was a Jack Russell terrier i swear that dog was really a human. He was so smart he understand everything i said. He was with me for over 10 years and didn't do anything wrong EVER. I could left the door open and tell him "Dont go out" and he wont. He didn't even needs a collar in the street. I got a bunch of stories about him.
I do my grocery shopping once a week and of course in going with my dog. When we arrive to the places i just put my knee and the floor and tell him "Sit and wait for me. HERE". Go in do my shopping for 15-20 minutes and every time he was sitting waiting in the same spot without making a noise. He was incredible
Maybe the mother of your dog the owner they treat nicely . That's why your dog so sweet and listen to you. Because before I have dog my sister given to me she told me the mother of the dog the owner they treat nicely like human.

Wait, what if they start like clawing on you, what do you have to do to make the, stop. Since like baby puppies they start clawing you and start running rapidly when they go into overdrive after they get let out if their little cage
Here's one that wasn't mentioned. If you use his crate for keeping him contained at bedtime or while you're at work, DON'T use it for time-out. It will associate the crate with punishment.

I can say that these tips are really unique and effective for each kind of dogs.
I trained my puppy with treats. So easy to teach them tricks with a treat they love
We took our pup to a dog trainer and she uses no treats at all, just praise.
Both food and praise are positive reinforcements, and are powerful tools. Some dogs have more food drive, and for them the use of food is very effective. It sounds like your trainer is skilled, and may have the expertise to do more with praise that the average new pet owner does. I think either positive approach is fine, as long as it's done correctly.
I think the long term goal of using the "food work" should be to wean the puppy off of the food treats, replacing them with other positive reinforcements like praise and play. But in the short term, using food is a great approach.

@ the 3 min mark when it says place the dog in the bathroom or a dog crate don't use the crate because crates shouldn't be used as part of a punishment since crates should be safe places.

Don’t use a crate as punishment! It should be safe, comfortable place for a dog, not somewhere you throw them when they’re bad. Your dog will learn that crates are unpleasant places and won’t be as nice to bring on trips to the vet or anywhere else.
I was thinking the same thing when I watched the video. Maybe instead, put the dog in the bathroom.
Amy I was thinking the same thing. But my bathroom has uneven walls that my puppy will chew. So I thought of getting a really small crate (the one that he has is gigantic for a small dog) so maybe I’ll do that and give it a try?

Crystal you can use a 🐀toy and when you see him playing with it and what knot( in the moment) ...just shout NO! At him...remember it has to be at exactly the moment and that goes for everything you don't want him to do so👍.

My dog since he was a puppy has barked at people while he was in my semi driving down the road and then when we were parked if people came close to the semi he would bark at people but now that I'm not driving semi anymore I cannot break him of barking at people in the car so can somebody give me some insight or an idea on how to stop him of not barking in the car because I've even had police officers tell me that I had to go get him registered with the humane society as a vicious dog but he's not because once I get him out of the car with the police officer or with people he's a sweetheart he licks them he cuddles them and they see that he's a he's everything that they didn't expect so again could somebody give me some insight I would appreciate it
If you and your puppy spent most of your time together but weren't around other people, other dogs, etc, he probably has some socialization issues. Look for a trainer in your area that can do some remedial socialization. It sounds like he's a little territorial -- the car/truck are his space, and other people aren't welcome. Once he's out of his space, he's meeting people on neutral territory that he doesn't need to defend. (I'm not a trainer -- that's just my speculation.)
Sounds like barrier frustration to me. It's a common problem and dogs can absolutely go ballistic behind fences, windows, etc. but be completely fine once that barrier isn't there anymore. You'll need to ask yourself "why" he acts that way, what emotion is driving him. Is it in any way fear or anxiety, or is he simply over-excited? Don't mistake reactivity for aggression... they are in no way the same thing, but know that they can sometimes show up in the same situation. If your dog is 100% great with everyone outside of the car, I'd chock it down to barrier frustration.
