I've been fly tying for approximately 4 months. Fast learning, but just bought your book Fly Tying for beginners. Absolute quality, well illustrated and kicking myself that I didn't know about this gem previously. Your first QR code brought me here, although I've been watching your videos for months. So, I'll work my way through the book and hope to have improved rapidly by the end of it. Great work 👏

That little midge pattern has been a very successful pattern since somebody first tied it. Nice to see it here! Tie some without the bead as well, I use them on a grease line setup. Thanks Barry, always appreciate your work!

I really like that trick using a old hackle feather to clean out the eye! I've been doing it myself now, works great!

This is the simplest yet right way to tie a midge really of almost any color. I'm partial to the more realistic looking midges but I have used the outrageous colors like neon pink or day glow orange and mixed them with a bright neon or lime green color and for what ever reason (the fishing gods maybe) the fish here won't even chase a realistic colored one but drop one of the Zombie (I call them) colored ones in a dropper set up in a size 18 or 20 and they will smash it every time it drifts close to them....go figure right ? Who knew. I've always considered my self a traditional Fly Fisherman but gradually as I saw guys taking fish after fish with a zombie color tied on .....well I warmed up to it real quick. My midge box has just as many Zombie colors now as realistic colors.
Thanks Again Mr.Clark for sharing with us.

Thanks Randy, the Zombie, yeah that could work...

      Good Morning Mr.Clark.
It's kinda a funny story but last fall Tracie (my wife) and I were fishing a small tributary stream over next door in Wyoming one sunny Fall morning and there were 3 younger guys (all were guides on the wind river drainage) fishing the confluence of the Stream and the river and they were landing some REALLY BIG BROWNS AND CUTTHROAT and all seemed to be throwing the same dropper set up we were except they had the most outrageous colors of zebra type midge on the bottom and this is where they were getting 99% of their hook ups. We threw every type midge I had with me and still could only get a follow every once in a while. Well the 3 of the young guys met on the bank and talked then 2 of them headed for their truck but the 3rd fellow walked over to where we were at and struck up a conversation. He wound up giving us 4 of his own midges in some of the most ungodly color schemes and shook our hands and left....well we tied on one each and our first cast for me and the 2nd for Tracie we each hooked up with fish both being over 5 lbs. Well my traditionalist values went right out the window. We had each caught and released well over 10 big Trout apiece and Countless pan fryers....what a day we had. So bottom line is I learned right there that youthful innovation can sometimes be a really great thing !
      Cheers my Friend,
      Take care and stay healthy.
      Randy & Tracie Hill.

Beautiful. As much as the outcome is of outstanding value, the ‘feel’ of all your videos is pure relaxation. Thank you.

I love when Barry ties classic patterns... that way I can look at my box and judge all of my own ties against a masterpiece.

    Hi Barry
I Enjoy your book, Flytying for beginners. I find it hard to find hooks.
Could you please recommend a place to order from. I would like the Mustad brand.
