The Satanic Panic takes hold in the 80's as metal bands openly embrace Satanic imagery. Punk begins meshing with metal, and rumblings begin in the northwest.
@@AspiringSpaceWizard i guess so… I’m not an expert on the field but I would think that something must have happened in this genre between 1991 until now
I’m enjoying these videos so far! It would have been cool if you mentioned YDI and their album Black Dust, which is one of the earliest examples of Sludge although it is not Sludge all the way.
They have more influence on doom along with st vitus more so then sabbath. Sabbath was just the biggest band that spread doom to the masses but bands mentioned in here briefly have more impact
I've DEFFINITELY toyed with the idea of doing this exact thing for Punk. FOR SURE. The only thing is these take SOOO much time to write and make, that when I get done with one I'm completely burned out on making more.
@Ronald Drump mostly the Hardcore punk scene not punk punk. I think I understand that alot of the garage bands in that time like the Stones and the Animals etc..
Incredible work, but I was expecting The Fall of Because as early sludge-industrial band being mentioned, and later Godflesh as industrial with doom and sludge elements in their selftitled EP in 88 and Streetcleaner in 89
Well done! The only thing that struck me as 'off' is that Wino didn't split from Vitus in 1985, he was already doing The Obsessed then (their s/t was recorded that yr but not released until 5 yrs beyond via the Hellhound label) Scott Reagers was the original Vitus vocalist - and a killer one at that - but didn't enjoy the touring life, and while touring the east coast, met up with Wino as the tough shredder whose band was The Obsessed. Apparently there were amicable talks of him replacing Reagers, who wanted out, and Wino being a fan of Vitus, agreed to join up as the vocalist only, not wanting to step on Vitus guitarist/founder Dave Chandler's toes by coming in as a second guitarist. Over the subsequent few records beyond Born Too Late (Wino's debut with the band in 1986) Wino contributed some guitar work here and there, and all these yrs later on youtube, you can watch live footage of them from around that late 80s era where Dave & Wino are both playing. After Vitus Vol V (1990) Wino left Vitus to reform The Obsessed (Lunar Womb in '91, then signed to Columbia Records for The Church Within in '94) leaving Vitus to work with Count Raven vocalist Christian Linderson on 1992s Children of Doom prior to original vocalist Reagers returning for what Chandler considers the bands finest moment, Die Healing 1995.
Unfortunately you forgot to mention REVELATION, DREAM DEATH, SOLITUDE AETURNUS & BLACK HOLE, who had a pretty big influence on doom metal bands that got more popular in 1990's
You gotta make a Spotify playlist of every song you used for this series. Awesome work dude! Rock n’ roll
I hope one day you will make part 4! Really enjoyed these videos
What would part 4 focus on ? More modern doom ?

Super good research man and it's fun to learn this stuff - I'm so glad EHG was formed on 4-20
Nice documentary, i'm glad it includes Black Flag, Kyuss and The Melvins in Part 3, Across the River are also there, really good job.
What a fantastic series. Hoping that part four will come out eventually.

I admire your work a lot. Thanks for taking the time for these! Please you should do one on American punk from 79-85. That would be awesome!

Can someone please tell me the name of the song in the beginning
Da Music is Great
2:44 sorry, where was that again?
Love the docs but sometimes it feels more like an occult doc than a stoner or drone/doom doc.
They kinda go hand in hand i think.
Especially with doom
This is an okay documentary. But there is too much focus on sabbath and just brushes over bands that have a bigger impact on doom
Now you're talking about grunge? This documentary rules but it's all over the place
Wheres part 4?

I have them reuploaded on my channel.
They were pulled due to Viacom. They're on Dailymotion, or check out the aforementioned link.
Cheers guys!
