I actually love the look of that Montegrappa you are going to tell us more about soon. My issue is, I have two Montegrappa fountain pens and both of them have ink flow problems and are often hard to get started. This has made me careful about buying more of them.
Love the look of this pen and pleased to hear it comes in EF as the line width of the fine does indeed look like a medium nib. I’d purchased other dragon themed pens that you had reviewed and this one is certainly calling to me!
Awesome pen, hope I can afford such things one day. A possible note, do you think the circles are bubbles? Research some chinese waves w/ bubbles. Might be it...
My oldest pen is a Montegrappa (Mg) Heritage from the 1990's. It's rampant oxidisation always depresses, even though I know it can be 're-sparkled' in minutes. Still I've remained pleased with it despite the amount I had to stump up nearly 30 years ago. Sadly I don't use it as much as I'd like - the more you collect the less time you get to spend with each one! My one, open, question with Mg is the non-linear nature of their special editions, by which I mean the lack of collective themes. A Viking pen, A Lamboghini pen, a Gladiator pen, all amazing but not connected. This leaves me wondering if more could be wrought from each idea, to channel Mg's inspiration. I wish they'd pick a theme and develop different ideas on it, such as a series of Viking pens depicting different aspects of Nordic history, that sort of thing. Not a complaint but a wish. Christmas is just around the corner....
Lovely pen and it would go well with my other dragon pens, but the price is prohibitive for me. If they made one in other materials, I would be very tempted to get one. I do like their piston mechanism. Great review, David.
Hello David, great review. I think your new pen in green looks wonderful as well. How will you be getting them to the market? Thanks for all you do. TN
A thorough, fair review. The engraving seems superior and the drop of dragon's blood is an interesting touch. Alas, I am not a fan of sterling silver pens overall.
Nice pen. But I disagree with the ruby on the clip. It looks too much like a Shaffer. I would like the ruby on the pen body, like the dragon ball instead. IMHO, it would break up the all silver body and a colour pop on the pen cap. BTY. I was born in the year of the monkey. I rather have a Wu-Kong motive. In the Journey to the West story, Wu-Kong beat up and humiliate the dragons. The horse the monk rode is actually a transformed sea dragon prince doing penance.
After watching your videos for quite a while, my one suggestion would be to work on avoiding “uh” or “um” when starting sentences as it can be rather distracting. Otherwise, I enjoy the channel
That is a #8 nib. It is essentially a silver Extra 1930. Montegrappa seats their #8's deeper than most companies. Thank you for showing the pen.
You are correct...it is a #8
Beautiful pen! Yes, for a fine, the print looks more like medium, which I like.
Humans do love sorting ourselves into groups, and both eastern and western zodiacs provide fun mascots for our teams.

Beautiful pen!
Aurora Borealis is green? Interesting. The pen looks impressive, David. Thanks for the sneak peek.
They can vary from green to red and purple - the southern aurora, Aurora Australis, is usually very greenish.

I was going to say the same thing. The circles could be bubbles/froth from the waves.

That is stunning pen.If you had all the zodiacs would be a statement lol.
Pfft I'm on Ox, some people think that I'm stubborn... but surely that would be the Goat people, right?

In does look very similar to the Sheaffer Silver Imperial with the touchdown filler, even down to the piston at the end.
I have a cheapo jinhao dragon and the eyes are red crystals. It's a nice touch on my least expensive pen!
Firstly It is a heavy pen.
Secondly $3500 that a lot of money for a hand crafted silver pen.
I liked it but not for that amount money.
Stop complaining, i was born in the year of the ox. No one wants to be an ox.
