my friends mother "gifted" me some yarn... 45 balls of neutral browns and creams- completely different textures and shades- with each ball only being enough yarn for a single sock or less
this video will be my saving grace

What an interesting gift - and what joy it will be to create something different with every ball!

Thanks for the ideas, very helpful. I also made a dahlia scrpghan afghan from make and do crew which came out nice with different colors for the flower puffs. Another time I used my scraps to make an african flower those are so pretty...and I also made a few amigurumi cactus, flower and pot which was low sew and I filled the pot with dried beans and filled the cactus with small leftover yarn scraps from weaving in ends. The shorter pieces I never know what to use them for.... they work for stuffing some amigurumi or quick stitch markers too. For my mandala projects I use the self striping yarn or I join the colors as I go with magic knots to have less ends to weave in.

Sorting by actual physical weight is such a smart way of doing it! Perhaps I will finally defeat my scrap pile...

I need to know if you can take a sizes 4 and add a sizes 5 or 6 in your blanket or do u have to have the same size as the crocheting needle is

      Sorry for the late reply
I was a little confused by this, but your previous comment read that you're referring to working with different yarn weights in the same blanket.
It's better to stitch using the same weight yarn in a project where possible. Or you can hold multiple strands together of the lighter weight yarns to create a thicker yarn to match the heaviest yarn in the project.
