BUFF Big & Ugly in a beautiful sorta way. Great vid Erik. I'm about 50 miles west of you Chuck. Recently saw a BUFF eastbound at low level as if following I-20 😊
Great looking aircraft that has been around for a long time. I remember seeing them takeoff and land many years ago from the tower. It is one amazing aircraft.
just image being in a pick up truck it the end of the runway on Guam when one pass's over you, and you see the pilot up close and personal, I will still see that till the day I die. USAF E-6 retired.
Erik, great video. Major, thank you for the information. It is interesting to see the BUFF still flying. Of course, one of my favorite Memes is the 'upgraded' BUFF seeing the old U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-E into retirement. LOL Long live the BUFF!
Growing up in Fresno I remember anytime I would drive North and go by Castle AFB you could see the buffs landing and taking off. Sad they finally closed down castle AFB. At least the museum is still there. A lot of great planes to see there
I have mixed feelings about the B-52. I was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX in the early to mid-80s as a C-130 crew member, and it was a SAC base so they always got priority. Then after I cross trained to ATC, in California, we would get transient B-52s and they were a pain in the a** because they were UHF only, their radios sucked, and they always ignored instructions and claimed it was because they didn't hear it. We were almost always on Runway 16, and in one instance approach called and said he's coming in on 34 and I had a pattern full of airplanes and I said "no way" and the approach controller just said "well here he comes, work it out". On the other hand, when working at Houston Center, I worked with the Air Guard unit at Barksdale AFB, LA quite a bit and they were great. It is amazing that we still have such an ancient aircraft in the inventory and it continues to find a mission.
You "heard correctly!". All models except the "H" had an interphone system that would block all transmissions if a "crew member" was talking on interphone. We had to talk in short bursts on interphone to be able to hear both UHF and HF radios. It was a real hazard!
@@garrykraemer8993 The "little" things you crews dealt with, professionally, to do whatever it took to get the job done". Much praise and respect to the old hands and the current "youngsters😊" who have crewed this great aircraft👍🏽🇺🇸.
Very good interview. Would really like to know what kind of range with the new F130's will the Buff have. Current range is like 8,800 miles. Have heard with F130 a 30% increase in efficiency. That's like 11,400 mile range. Would like your opinions. Thanks!
Did the Major really say he was going to exceed the Mach limit as specified in Boeing's -11? The EVS pods on the chin will go supersonic, so he must intend of flying the J without EVS mods. Still, until Boeing changes the -11, I do not believe it is wise to exceed aircraft or airframe limits! When I was an IP (dual qualified in G & H [CCTS]) SAC crewmembers were never allow to exceed what was specified in the -11 or the performance manual. My how things have changed. I used to transfer control of the 'aircraft' by saying "you have control of the aircraft". The pilot taking control would respond "I have control of the aircraft". Now every word is "jet"! I do believe USAF regulations still state you will use "aircraft" instead of "jet"; but it has been 35 years and the manuals might have changed. Keep flying Major; Command Pilot wings are on the horizon!
Rolls Royce is starting to replace all the engines on all the B-52 fleet so in the near future all the B-52s will have brand new engines that will keep it flying way into the future.
I live 5 miles from Barksdale! I’m lucky to see these beauties flying every day!! Incredible aircraft!
Very cool!

Can't wait to see the re-engined airframes.
This is fascinating. Thanks for producing it.
Love the BUFF.
She’s only about 10 years younger than the B-29 !

Great work as always Erik
I appreciate that
B52 will be 95 years old in 2050. A true workhorse
Greatly detailed.

Will this testing B-52 eventually be configured back into being full on capable, or will it have to wait until it is upgraded all the way?

Buff is very large in person on the ground. That was my first time seeing it on the ground.
Hurry up with the -J!
