This is my favorite aircraft of all time! I grew up around and still live around the Lackland/Kelly AFB area and these fly patterns every single day. The engine sound is unique and so sweet to hear!
Looked like they rotated in about 4 plane lengths! Great job! They were nearly back up in the clouds before they crossed the boundary fence. I'll take that performance boost of the M over the trademark whine of the As and Bs. They used to upgrade these at the plant near my house so I got to see C5s flying fairly regularly. Same plant that built the F22 so I got to see them all fly before getting painted as well.

Fascinating, but irritating accelerated sequences. Either leave as is, or edit out.
Lots of good thrust from the jets.
These plane are actually extremely light when empty they can take off pretty fast full too but yeah lot of power coming out those engines
Well, at that point they were unladen, and those mills put out an AWFUL lot of thrust.
Served At Rammstein airbase west Germany in the 80s,C5’s taken off seemed like you could walk faster than the C5 on take off amazing to watch lift off,Proud and lucky to of been a called United States Air Force Airman.
Crew chief on these in the late 70's. Loved the job! Miss the commaradary. Balls 8 was my tail #. Galaxy was an A model....back then. Great plane...great times. Thanks!
These big birds were landed by sheer professionals, the airport at Prestwick is now full of C5's ...good work pilots.
Awe dude, this is sweet! Thank you for the upload.
Thankyou 😃
My god! What a machine! Get to watch them take off next to my golf course! Sound is amazing
I’m in my 60’s now !!
My Aunt n Uncle lived across the freeway from Lackland San Antonio TeXaS !!!!
As a Kid these Galaxy’s were maintained there !!
When they flew behind their home ! They were on approach landing ! Looked more like they were floating than flyin !!!!! Wonderful machines !!
GREAT Vid. ! Hope the Brit’s liked the show !!
Thanks for the warm welcome m Recognition Trump was showed !!
❤️🙏🙏👍🏼🖖🎶🎶🇨🇱🖖🖖🖖🖖
No time for a cup of tea for these pilots. Awesome machines.
I know both of those tail numbers. Worked on C-5 A, B and M for 16 yrs at Robins AFB Depot. Strip and Build-up Crew.
I remember seeing the C5As landing at Newburgh in the 60s. The sound of those engines were very distinct. Do the newer C5s still have the same sound?
Zooboo Blotsky It's a different sound now. M model C-5 have new GE engines.
These Super Galaxy's know how to make an entrance! Thanks for the fine vid from California!!!
Certainly do! No problem, glad you liked it! 😀👍
Thank you for the video of these amazing aircraft! Loved seeing all aspects of their arrival through takeoff.
You are welcome! Thankyou for watching the video 😆
Mraviationguy
Fantastic video. Those short take offs are unbelievable.
@3:10 ...hey USAF you might wanna check out that lazy leaky speed brake flap. Where do they go after they dump off the beast and vehicles? USAF base?
Why? Lol
I live near HAFB Utah and these are an extremely rare sight. We see a lot of C-17's, F-35's and A-10's. Thank you for posting.
@@johndonahue3162 I did notice that and am aware that they are not based at HAFB. I was just pointing out that we rarely see them flying in to HAFB.
@@johndonahue3162 None taken. I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. We rarely see C-5's fly into HAFB, not necessarily the ones filmed in the video.
That takeoff roll! Who knew a C5 was a STOL aircraft. Incredible. Thanks for posting this vid.
Amazingtake,,off
Great Aircraft! And a Great Video!Fantastic footage of the plane itself and the take off! Thanks for the wonderful footage!
Thankyou very much Malcolm, I really appreciate your comment 😄
I was a jet engine mechanic in the USAF in the very early '90s at Dover AFB when these beasts still had the TF-39s and the older flight deck among other things. What a great and awesome aircraft it still is to this day.
Dover AFB, early 80's. Flight Surgeon's Office. I try to visit every few years and also hit Ocean City. Dover has a Flight museum which is fantastic. Go see it if you can.
@@lizard944 I have often I still live close by. It's awesome. I live a few miles south of Dover now.
@@VettemanLT5 Lucky you! When I retire that area will be on my short list of places to be. My wife has friends and family that visit from all over the world. Our routine is to take them to Wash, DC, Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA, Dover to hit the Casino and Museum, Ocean city for a few days and mandatory stop at "Crabs To Go" in Berlin, MD, then to Niagara Falls. Pretty sure we're the best hosts on the planet...LOL. Cheers.
Those C5’s are magnificent beasts!!!
& yes they are beasts! At "Luke Days" at Luke AFB you can do a walk thru. You can almost play football in there!
Have to hand it over to the US, they know how to make a entrance
US, we salute you!
The respect is mutual, mate. Atleast for 51% of your population lol.
Yea, I have to hand it to them...
That was all before Air Force One even touches down.. well prepared! 🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💯
As a US citizen, this was pretty cool - and i can represent some of the good people that live here, although there are alot of turds lol 😂😅 Thank you our UK brothers and sisters! Ally's forever!
Amazing! Run very short distance to take off for such a heavy aircraft! What a nice dynamic shape design!
When I was a boy of 10 we landed at Prestwick, my Gran lived in Prestwick. That was 59 years ago
My one and only ride on one of these was in March of 1970 when I was medivac'd back to the USA from Vietnam to Camp Zama and then Wright Patterson AFB. Awesome plain period.
Very well done video! Professionally filmed and edited videos like this are so pleasant to watch all the way through. Pride in work clearly evident. Subscribed.
That's awesome! The first one is based just about 30 minutes from my house at Travis AFB. All the airshows in northern Cali always have at least one C-5M parked on display and my goodness they are huge in person.
Well shot and edited. Great video. Congrats.
Thankyou very much 😃
THATS A MONSTER OF A PLANE, THE PILOT LOOKS SO SMALL. AMAZING HOW ENGINEERS CAN MAKE A PLANE SO HUGE AND IT ACTUALLY FLIES.. PLUS THE CRAZY PAY LOADS OF TANKS, ETC.
Hey me too Phil. John Nason here loadmaster on these for 22 years and 7400 hours on the C5. Thanks
John Appliance guy I remember you John...
Awesome! Thank you ALL for your service to our nation and the world!
But the US is messing up the world over, what service are you talking about?

I lived on Travis AFB military airlift command base , we used to sit out by the flight line and watch the c-5 Galaxys touch and go's 👍
Richard Chouinard, It's difficult to imagine this behemoth doing touch and goes. Amazing. The flying whale.
It is absolutely crazy how quickly those things leave the ground!!! It seems like a quarter of the distance it takes for every other plane! I don't think it's just the size difference that makes this look like it does either!
The newer GE engines for the C-5M helps reduce takeoff distance with more thrust.
Loved to watch these big girls doing touch and goes in Charleston SC. Amazing! Great safety record. Awesome airplane. "I know! Let's put wings on a football field! We will call it the 5th down!"
I’ve never flown the bird, but was invited to spend time in the newest simulator at my local AFR base (Thank You, Westover, for your humbling generosity!)
To say it was challenging is an understatement, but it was a hell of a lot of fun.
(Thanks to my CFI, Bob for the MUCH needed encouragement and assistance. He is a Gentlemen among Gentlemen!)
For the record, it flies like a football field!!!
(Thank you Bob, for NOT filling the cockpit with smoke! 😁🤣👍 He could have, you know!)
It still amazes me how quickly those big birds get those wheels off the deck on take off.
Big wings = shorter takeoff time
New engines help a lot
Fantastic video, really enjoyed them coming out of the clouds on landing, and the take off's must have been amazing in person. Cheers!
Thankyou very much Tim! 😆 The low clouds created quite a cool effect didn't it! The takeoffs were just incredible to see, they left me speechless! Cheers 😊
Awesome aircraft. Touring the interior was amazing. You can still hear that whine.
Thankyou very much 😁 I am so jealous, I would love to go inside one of these!
Jean Stern yes, while stationed at ramstein ab, when both ends of the bird were open, myself and other airmen used to play football inside !!!! and what many people Don't know, the front of the aircraft would kneel down so cargo could be loaded and off-loaded much easier! !!!! "76-78" AFSC 63150 REFUELING SQUADRON (USAF)
Yes I noticed this actually, I have never seen that before - incredible!
Beautiful job on the video, Aviation Guy! Really spectacular.
Thankyou very much 😀☺️
i was in the army stationed near ramstein air base in germany, no matter where you were on the base when those c-5s took off and landed you had to stop and just watch,i was there when a c-5 crashed during take off just seeing all the crew and cargo on the ground was very upsetting, ill never forget it
Amazing video, Amazing quality...👍
Those Landings were smooth as butter if they were in the Olympics they would have got a perfect 10 perfect stick
One of the most iconic airplanes ever 👍🏻 with new avionics and well upgrated
Most people probably missed it, but I like the way the aircraft, will squat, or kneel, as its ramp comes down and begins unloading. Very cool.
The Russian versions (Antonov AN124 and AN225) also squat in the front to load cargo.
WITH ENOUGH ENGINE POWER YOU CAN FLY A ROCK HERES PROOF AMAZING FOOTAGE SEVERAL THUMBS UP THANX
Fantastic fantastic footage. I take my hat off to you for such outstanding work.
May you have many more good ones like this one.
Thankyou very much indeed 😃
Awesome and an ILS approach in actual conditions too.
Your video made my morning! Great stuff!
Aw thankyou very much 😄 I really appreciate it and I am glad to have made your morning.
I remember doing maintenance on the 2nd C5 (5008) at Dover AFB, 27 years ago, back in 1992. That airplane is 34 years old, now.
Great footage, thanks. Got to see these many times while stationed at Elmendorf AFB Alaska back in the 70's. Got a few walk through opportunities on open house weekends, massive inside.
Length as large as a football field !
Amazing to watch. Thanks for taking the time Mraviationguy. Fascinating. I agree the pilots kissed the ground with the wheels - terrific landings both.
Thank you for watching, glad you liked the video 😆
