Caran D'ache has a product that is like an artist crayon, Neocolor I and Neocolor II. Neocolor I are waterproof and Neocolor II are water soluble. I highly recommend both. Hope this helps
@@Lilstarnerd yes but even the neocolonial two can be layered without water and they’re very smooth and opaque and delicious. Highly recommend with or without water. Super satisfying to use
@Lilstarnerd yeah these are definitely what you would have been thinking of. The wax type one is neocolour 1 and the most like a better quality regular crayon. The neocolour 2 is the water soluble one that you can use like a watercolour pencil.
I believe you've mistaken neopastels for neocolors. Neocolors are a waxed based pastel, aka a crayon. There's a water solvable and a non-water solvable version of those
the thing about the secondary supplies and how mediums should just work as is is SO REAL lmao like I want the simplest path to getting things on paper or I'm over it lmao that's why I was doing only digital art for a while bc it literally had everything in one place for my lazy a** 😅😅😅 but now that I'm trying to get back to traditional, I also have been eyeing the neocolors (everyone's already commented the correction lmao but if I can be so fr I did not even realize you were introducing the wrong thing lmao my brain was like oh yeah neo-whatevers, I've seen those videos lmfao)
I've been tempted by these for a while... I've now got a BIG collection of neocolor II pastels because they've been a lot of fun, so I think I'll stick to those instead 🥰
I’ve seen SO MANY artists make a similar mistake. It seems like caran D’Ache has made an odd mistake in naming their products - it’s way too easy to confuse neocolor i, neocolor ii, and neopastels. I’ve even seen TH-camrs mix up the product names when doing videos - which makes it extra tricky when you want to purchase the correct supply and replicate the techniques you saw in their video. It ends up making you feel like you’re a little crazy when the product doesn’t work the way you thought it would based on videos of someone using an entirely different supply. Love what you did with these though.
I would post a comment, but everyone else already said, so here is a comment for engagement and I'm glad you liked them even though you thought you were buying the neocolors
I think you mixed them up with neocolor I that are exactly like crayons... and there are also neocolor II that are like crayons that are water-soluble. I reccommend trying neocolor II, I love them :)
Neopastel 2’s are totally mixable! Because they are a water based medium, you can rub them on a course surface ie: a plastic cutting board (caran D’ache actually sell these, but you can get one from Kmart at a fraction of the price) just add whatever pigments you want to the board, add water and mix! ❤
13:30 Totally agree on the "supplies should work as is" ideology! I refuse to add solvents to coloured pencils or use brushes with acrylic markers. Especially the latter! If I wanted to work with brushes and mix stuff on palettes, I'd have bought acrylic paint, not markers. I mostly use oil paints without solvents & mediums and have no issues.
Not the same thing but i got these chapstick looking supplies called faber castele Gelatos that are really funky. Like lipstick mixed with a oil pastel but its water soluble. Highly recommended! They're good weird
Lol Oh noooooo I can see the confusion. I honestly didn’t even know these were a thing!! I have a set of 15 “Neocolor II Aquarelle”. So, I may be adding these and a Neocolor I set to my wishlist! 🤭
Won’t repeat. I really like these oil pastels- they’re my favorite actually. I even prefer them above the highly acclaimed Sennelier pastels. That said if you ever get the Neocolors ii’s you will love them too! So many fun art supplies… so little money. 😂
Oooh what a cool colours! Its been a long since I dont watch your videos, youtube has recommended me again it again. Everytime I rewatch drawing videos you channel appears again on my feed lol
The ones you probably want are called neo colors, there are 2 kinds, neo colors 1 are just high quality crayons and the neo color 2 are water soluble crayons, both are ok just as expensives as the neopastels
I know everyone else has told you, but here’s some more clarification… Neo color wax, pastels, neo color water soluble wax, pastels, and neo pastel oil pastels. Those are the three that people often confuse. The wax versions have a pointy tip and act a lot like wax colored pencils. of course one of them is water soluble. I really like the texture of the oil pastels, but they do have a different way of working than most other oil pastels so I’ve had to adjust for that when I use them :-)
My heart skipped a beat, panic!! I bought these in July and haven’t swatched them yet, they’re in my "fun art supplies for bad weather days" box. Had to check my mail inbox to see if I ordered I or II and thankfully it was the right kind 🥲
Pastels have always seem so yummy and beautiful to me, sadly I can't afford even the cheaper brands (they're not popular on my city 😅). I'm looking forward watching this video
I’ve grown up using Neocolor I, Neocolor II and Neopastels (Neopastels are my favourite oil pastels, more so than Sennelier. NB oil pastels have different firmnesses - these are firmer) so it hurt my heart when you talked about them as a passing fad at the beginning 😂.
Also a tip: you can indeed create portraits with oil pastels, but you need some extra tools such as the tip of blending stumps for the small details. Neopastels are my favourite because of how gloriously blendable they are. Also they work on almost any paper unlike softer pastels. I find softer artist grade oil pastels (Sennelier/Paul Rubens) too much like smearing grease around. Mungyo Gallery (NOT a the student grade version, make sure you get the artist grade one!) are a good Neopastel substitute for much cheaper.
I was ready to tell you what you meant to get but everyone else has.. I have the neocolor IIs I wonder if the pastel version is better than the Paul reubans brand.
From my limited knowledge, I’m pretty sure you might be thinking of Carson d’Ache neocolors. They have that crayon tip and are much more waxy than a traditional oil pastel or faber castel gelato, while still remaining creamy. Katie Moody is the first TH-camr who comes to mind that raves about neocolors. Caron d’Ache makes two kinds of neocolors, 1 and 2. The ones are the original, wax-based artist crayon, and the twos are an aquarelle crayon that can be blended out with water or left as is (I think they still refer to them as wax crayons/pastels on their site, though). The names are pretty confusing - your sticks are labeled ‘neopastel’, which is unfortunately rather similar to ‘neocolor’. I haven’t tried oil pastels, but I love my neocolors; I’m glad the oil pastels weren’t too much of a let down. Hope this helps!
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE TIP ON NEOCOLORA IM GENUINELY SO RELIEVED THEY EXIST AT ALL I WANT TO TRY THEM SOOO BAD!!!
@@Lilstarnerd yup literally not even done with video and when you started I immediately thought of the neocolor 2s 😅

I believe 100% those where the ones you were searching for... and it's a Must!! (at least for me) you are going to have so much fun!!! :D

oil pastels are easily blended with a blending stump and can get muddy when overly layered, also the paper choice and tooth can affect how they go on

Only a few minutes in but you are definitely thinking of the neocolour 1s..... there is also the watersoluble crayon called the neocolour 2s.
SLAYYY TY

Definitely sounds like you're describing the Neocolor Is. Even the water-double Neocolor IIs have that level of blendability when used dry.

Caran d'Ache Neocolor I? maybe? They're sold as wax pastels but they're basically high quality crayons. the II's are water-soluble.

so many supplies out there it def can get confusing, especially as something might be call something else in another country😆

Neopastels are great pastels though. It's a different medium but very fun.
You were absolutely thinking of the neocolor 2s😭

I think you might be thinking of Caran Dache Neocolor, they are more like crayons! Also, great painting!

I just woke up from having a dream about neocolors and neopastels
I think you’re thinking of the caran dache neopastel 2! I don’t own them but I know they more crayon-y
PERFECTTT
The Aquarelle crayons are pointy. If possible, please make a video trying the Neocolor 2 Aquarelle (watersoluble) crayons and tell us what you think.
yes you got them mixed up with Neocolor II but in all honestly neopastel are better imo
I think you might enjoy these ones more.
Sounds like you were looking for Neocolor II by Caran Dache. Those are the crayon like ones that are water soluble. 😊
Thank yoiuu!!

Is that Scully from the X Files!?
Are these gelatos or neopastels?!?!
I will never buy them. I am so confused.Caran d'ache should do a better job.
Not my preferred medium.
Omg you talk fast😂
Early !
