    These guys make brilliant Christmas gifts! I made a whole pile of the them last year for all of the members of my son’s high school DND club. They were a huge hit and not terribly expensive (i was able to use larger scraps from previous projects). But i love the little adjustments that you made… if i made more, I’d most def follow your tips.

    Hey Chey, WRT the bobbin thread of your sewing machine. Double check that you have threaded the top thread properly. It could be that your top thread tension is not correct, it might be too tight and that's why it might seem your bobbin thread is off. If you still have your user manual for the machine, double check that you have threaded it like the diagram shows. Sometimes if the top thread isn't threaded through all the different do-bobs and hooks it messes up the tension. Yeah, then double check that you are also threading the bobbin thread properly too. I am inclined to think it's your top thread tension. Always check your tension on scrap before starting a new project. You might have (or maybe Pepper?) changed the tension knob above the needle along the top without realizing it.
    One trick I can share that will help you with turning? After you finish stitching, but before you actually turn the circle, you want to press-fold the seam allowance with your iron. You only want to press fold one side, not both seam allowances. What this does is "score" the fabric (for one of the circles) along the stitching line, so when you turn it it's a LOT easier to press. This is a tailoring trick that once you do, you will wonder how you did it any other way. Of course because you are working with a circle it's going to seem awkward to press, but just place the point of the iron in between the seam allowances and press only one side back (or down toward the center of the circle). When you turn the circle right-sides out, it should make ironing flat the outer seam of the circle easier. Then you top stitch and away you go. I hope that this makes sense! Cheers!

    • @cheyennebarton
      @cheyennebarton  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OHHHH the turning trick does make sense!! I did also read that using pinking shears along the seam allowance can help a bunch with bulk, but I like this pressing idea a bit better. I'll give it a go next time :D Thank you for the wisdom!! And I will double check my top thread tension too o7

  • @kcheemskerk
    @kcheemskerk 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My bobbin thread would always get a little messed up at the end as well, and I figured out what I just need to do is turn the wheel until the needle is fully up. Because that finishes your top thread picking up the bottom thread, if that makes sense.
    These dice bags are so cute, I need to make some asap.

    As boring as it might be, I highly recommend researching the care and keeping/mechanical workings of your specific sewing machine. Knowing the ~idiosyncrasies~ of your individual sewing machine will make sewing with it so much more enjoyable and easier. Same advice for bobbins and bobbin tension especially. I nearly quit using my sewing machine altogether until I finally addressed bobbin tension and... it solved so many issues. Now machine sewing is so much better.
    Also, you can have the most perfect circle template and somehow it never ends up being a circle in the end. It's just a universal curse lmao.

    • @cheyennebarton
      @cheyennebarton  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i did find a much better way of drawing more consistent big circles, but the human touch will always prevent them from being perfect :’)
      and thanks for the advice!! I’ll study up on my Brother - I got it for $20 off FB marketplace in 2020 and never took the time to get to know it 😅

      @_captainmagic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cheyennebarton Also, don't forget to clean out the lint that accumulates in side the machine, by the laser, and around the bobbin, that can affect your stitches too!

I've been thinking about moving to Seattle for a little while but I always hear it's so gloomy and there's the "Seattle freeze". I was wondering if you could give me your perspective on living there as an artist, do you live in the city, outside?
