    Bought the 2.4 Ultimate about two months ago and absolutely love it. I actually look forward to driving it. Drives smooth, quiet and comfortable. It's not a speed demon but has plenty of power for me. Lots of room and nice features. Great sound system. So far averaging 26 MPG combined in LA Traffic so not too bad. Purchased after lots of research including viewing this and other video reviews. Couldn't be happier so far!

    Love that they avoided the "digi-shifter" trend! It sounds like the Santa Fee does need the turbo-4 with AWD. Btw, the production value of your videos somehow keeps improving...wtf?...do you and Becka have an entire production team working in your dungeon?

    • @BeesonsCars
      @BeesonsCars 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mike my family had a 2012 Chrysler 300 for about two years when they first came out. It was the first year of the 8 speed auto and the digital shifter. It was the absolute WORST shifter I’ve used. It’s so hard to go into reverse. It takes at least two attempts. I’ve driven a BMW and there’s is much better. But it’s still kinda weird. Mercedes has a good column shifter, but there’s a slight delay going from gear to gear.

    • @valdius85

      I use digi-shifters often. I don`t expect a smooth experience, but in the mountains it comes in handy when going downhill or when I want to suddenly accelerate on the motorway - in Tokyo area it helps.

      We just bought a new Ultimate 2.4L AWD. Drive both engines before you decide; we liked the more linear power delivery of the 2.4 than the "power-on / power-off" nature of the turbo. When that engine is on boost, it's very peppy; when it's off, it feels as though it's straining until it gets back on boost. By the by, we love our new one.

    It seems that the Hyundai executives have watched savage geese videos. They have fixed some of the things he complained about. So I have a mental picture of several of them watching this video. They grin and give each other the thumbs up as he compliments the improvements, but they can’t help spitting out their beverage as they crack up as he tries to fasten the side window shade. This is one reason Mister Goose may be my favorite reviewer. Others provide good information too, but lack the entertainment value. So like I said before, I will even watch Mister Goose review something I have no interest in buying.

      every single material of Mr Goose is worth watching. As a the UK resident I will never buy anything bigger than Santa Fe as I have no option to park it in front of my house. However I am watching every review to be familiar with new trends, tricks and gimmicks. These details are sometimes a go or no-go for a car. Thanks to @GarazOtwarty (or Marek Drives) I will never buy a SUV wihout a doors covering entire side of a car (as I am living on country-side I used to ruin my trousers by touching bottom side of my car).
      I really enjoy what StraightPipes guys are doing with coffe cup test, but for me is more important if I can put 0,5l thermos cup of coffee and STILL use an armrest. So yes.. information like if fake plastic-chrome like finish will blinds you during driving is extremely important, because sooner or later it may cost you a crash (just like 90deg windows in G wagen). Happy new year and stay safe Mr Goose

      I don't think they're watching his videos... if Hyundai was, they wouldn't have taken the integrated-into-the-dash infoscreen from the 2018 model and did the "stick a tablet on the dash with glue" look in the 2019.

    As an owner of a 2020 I like the blue lights in the Santa Fe I find I’m able to see quite well at night with them and there’s plenty of them, in any case you do not use these lights very much if they are in issue to some people. When I first got into the Santa Fe I did not feel the entertainment screen looked cheap however it did appear more stuck on than the previous Santa Fe. But when it comes to use it is very functional and easy to see. I’ve been impressed by how quiet the vehicle is and the ride is very nice and smooth. I love the large amount of sub floor storage in the back. My biggest gripe about the vehicle is the lack of a V6 and can’t move rear seats forwards and backwards.

    Just bought a 2019 Santa Fe Limited 2.0T FWD after tons of research, test driving, and watching reviews online. My husband drives a 2013 Honda CRV and I was looking to replace a 2008 Honda Odyssey. I had never even considered a Hyundai until I started researching SUVs. The 2019 Santa Fe is the perfect size for our needs. The ride is comfortable, quiet and smooth. I liked your review because you actually acknowledged that most buyers of this SUV are not going to notice the imperfections like car afficiandos who review cars! The value compared to others is significant. I was able to buy a loaded SUV with every safety feature (plus some you forgot to mention, like the feature that alerts you if you left a person or pet in the back seat, and the feature that prevents a rear seat passenger from opening the door if approching traffic is detected) for much less than a CRV or RAV4. SG, based upon my rental of a '19 Santa Fe, I have to disagree with your assessment of this SUV's ride - it was a strippo that we rented, but it definitely rode hard over some surfaces (and yes, I checked the tire pressure when the tire were cold to ensure they were at the manufacturer's recommended pressure). The higher level Santa Fes are known to ride even harder! You also didn't mention the start/stop system on the Santa Fe: the nicest thing we could say about it was that it was annoying, but at least there's a dash switch to switch it off. The headlights at night were almost as bad as a '18 Ford Edge, where it chops off the range significantly. I wasn't happy that I couldn't get the infotainment system w/GPS without having to buy that worthless vista roof (typical Kia Sorento marketing stunt). Now - two important GOOD things that you didn't point out, 1) For a contemporary SUV, the forward and even rear visibility was quite good, definitely better than so many SUVs and cars. 2) The interior space, size of the vehicle, and the ability to be able to safely maneuver it around in tight areas (ex, parking lots) were a real plus. It felt right in these areas, so to speak. I do agree that Hyundai made a big improvement over it's previous "Sport" model, and it wouldn't be difficult for Hyundai to make a few changes, and have a class leader.

    The thing that bothers me about car reviewers is that they review every auto with a sports car as the basis of comparison. Most people looking at this prefer comfort over sportiness.

    • @gmpatriots25
      @gmpatriots25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joal Bio: I fully agree with you!! You continually hear phrases like: "it's sporty" or it's not sporty enough" or "I wish it had more sportiness," or the "steering isn't sporty enough." And all the reviewers in this SUV/Crossover segment want you to have the "Turbo" option if offered. Most people, in this category, just want a good, reliable everyday car, either as a family car or a daily commuter; they're not shopping for a track car to see how fast they can go. Your point is well taken.

    Good review as usual, SG. I'm surprised, though, that you (and other reviewers) don't mention that the Santa Fe is in effect a two row, 4 cylinder version of the Kia Sorento. Same platform. Same suspension. Same transmission. Same weight. The Santa Fe is about an inch shorter in overall length with virtually identical passenger room and cargo capacity. The interiors are almost identical as well, with the exception of the Kia's integrated infotainment screen on the center stack rather than the on-dash tablet of the Santa Fe. Same controls in the same highly functional and intuitive placement. Identical second row seating and features. All in all, the amenities and interior of the two vehicles are almost identical, item for item.
    For anyone who lives in a climate with messy winters the Hyundai/Kia AWD system is a big plus. Personally, I prefer the smoothness and linear performance of the Kia's V6 but the Santa Fe counters with somewhat better fuel efficiency from the turbo 4. In addition, the Santa Fe offers a couple of innovations that the Sorento lacks. The interior motion sensor alerts an owner when a pet or a child has been left in the car. Not an insignificant feature. And the blind spot monitor in the Santa Fe prevents the rear passenger from opening the door when another vehicle is approaching. Another useful safety feature.
    The under-floor rear cargo tray of the Santa Fe is identical to that offered in the Sorento prior to 2018 when KIA dropped the two row seat option. Eliminating the space required to store the third row of seats provides a useful spot for seldom used items but its functionality is somewhat compromised by the fact that the cargo floor above has to be empty to access it. As for the third row of the Sorento, like most of the smaller three row CUV's, its benefits are limited to chauffeuring a gaggle of kids or when accommodations for seven on a short local trip means using only one vehicle rather than two. But in those cases it's very convenient. And it's worth noting that the Sorento's third row offers more room than several larger midsize crossovers (e.g. Mazda CX-9, Toyota Highlander.)
    All in all, both the Santa Fe and the Sorento are well designed "Goldilocks" sized SUV's, larger than rivals in the "compact" category but smaller than the some of the massive vehicles in the three row midsize segment. Hyundai has done an excellent job with the Santa Fe. But I think it's a stretch to imply they started with a blank sheet of paper in designing it. They took the existing Kia Sorento, deleted the third row of seats, and inserted the optional four cylinder turbo engine that Kia dropped from the Sorento. Makes for an excellent choice for a lot of folks.

    • @canadabear72
      @canadabear72 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen...I appreciate your detailed comments, and I mostly agree. I love these Korean twins. Mechanically, the Santa Fe and Sorento are the same. But I have to disagree about the interiors. To me, they really feel quite different. I really love the V6 in the Sorento. I think it should be optional in the Santa Fe, because like you said, these are a bit bigger than the others in this class.

    • @Wasabi9111
      @Wasabi9111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. The SF also has HUD and a much lower price. Not sure why anyone would choose to pay more for the Sorrento besides the 3rd row, which I don’t need.

    • @canadabear72
      @canadabear72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Wasabi9111 Actually the Sorento and Santa Fe prices are right on top of each other comparably equipped. If you full load each model, you're right, the Sorento is 6k more. The only difference I found was the 3rd row and the V6.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@canadabear72 You're right, John. The key phrase is "comparably equipped." I'd add a couple of points. First, manufacturers often tout an MSRP for a base model that few customers actually purchase and are scarce (or even non-existent) on dealer lots. It's a way to draw customers into showrooms where mid-level and top trim loaded models are the rule. Second, MSRP's are, at best, a rough guide to the real world price of a vehicle. For example, I purchased a fully loaded, top trim Sorento in the first quarter of 2018 for about $8000 less than the MSRP. A few months later I purchased a top trim VW GTI for about $6000 less than MSRP.
      When I'm at an early stage of shopping I usually compare top trims of competing vehicles since it provides a rough guide to price points and the features of each. But if I'm serious about a vehicle, I dig into the details of what each offers in terms of my personal priorities and what a particular dealer is willing to take for that vehicle. That's called a "negotiation" and it only happens when a dealer has some assurance you'll actually purchase a vehicle.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wasabi9111 On the other hand I might argue that I don't understand "why anyone would choose" a Santa Fe with a turbo 4 when the Sorento offers a naturally aspirated V6 and third row seating that I find very convenient on occasion. The point is that different people have different priorities and preferences. What is a useless add-on to one consumer may be an essential feature to another.

  • @motorstock10
    @motorstock10 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally agree. I bought the 2.0T ultimate also in Canada, and honestly, there are only some cons, but when I remember how much I'm paying per month if I compare with competitors or even with premium brands with similar toys but without premium badge, I think Hyundai did their homework, putting the things at the right price. 2 years back, I would not even give a chance to drive or buy a Hyundai.
    I did lot of reseach prior to put the signature down last August, and based on the information given by Savage Geese I took the decision, even prior August 2018 and have any review available for NA. I trusted Australian reviews on this vehicle, where this puppy was available before than Canada.
    Things to complain, or actually to improve for Hyundai?, The engine is a little thirsty, but at least they are not lying about the km in per liter. (My old beloved 2015 GTI said 40km to the end of the tank, and 5 km after it was stating 20km were remaining). On the other hand, change of oil every 6000 km while in my old VW I had only to come to the dealer every 15K or 16K. I don't know why Hyundai doesn't use synthetic oils on their engines. At the end we are paying for them
    ? I prefer just one visit in a year than 2 or more in the same period of time
    Things more related to usability
    :
    The same sensor is used to lock or open the doors, so you are not totally sure if you car is open or closed when you're leaving. Additionally, I need to let all the passengers doors to be closed prior to be able to have the vehicle locked, which is annoying, because you need to come back always to the door after helping others to get out, to be able to lock the car.
    The automatic trunk opening thing opens the door after four seconds. It happens to me this puppy sleeps in a normal garage and every time i go around the car, even for other reason different than to start the car, I need to do it in a period of time shorter than 4 seconds otherwise trunk door will open and hit the garage door or myself, so I always need to let the car unlocked overnight to avoid anyone with keys in the pocket going around the vehicle to prevent such unintentional trunk opening. The 4 seconds should always start to count when you stand right in front of your trunk but not from the rear sides near the wheels
    The GPS is totally usefulness to find any chain of grocery and stores here in Quebec. All the available in the GPS seem to be US related
    .
    Where is my 120 power outlet I do see in the ultimate in Australia, Russia and US? Sometimes, for work I need to connect my laptop, and I was hoping to find it similar to other latitudes
    Even all these cons I have found, probably I'm so picky, I love several features like the HID and the Active LKA, Front and Rear lights. I find this to be a really good vehicle. I'm glad i did and bought this Santa fe last year this car, being the first unit sold at the dealer, and it seems based on this entry, i'm glad it seems i did a good choice.
