Loved this! I was born an raised in Ventura, moved away to other parts of the county for a few years and moved back to Ventura 5 years ago. That abandoned train track goes right past my house about 4 more miles where you left off. Love this place, wouldnt want to live anywhere else. As kids in the 70 and 80s we roamed the entire area from Santa Paula to Ventura beach on our bikes. Been wanting to get a pair of ebikes for my wife and I for a while, this has inspired me to move forward with it. Thank You! You cant beat the weather here, mild Mediterainian weather year round, not too cold in winter, not too hot in summer. Location is perfect too. You could literally go from surfing, to snowboarding, to riding dirtbikes in the desert, all in one day!

Funny, I have not heard our City of Ventura, called a “small beach town,” since the 1960s when we had 48,000 residents. We are up over 100,000 now. But thank you.😊

Yes..compared to most beach towns on the central coast, Ventura sure isn’t considered small!

Lake Casitas is a great place to camp. You guys should of rented a boat! There is a tin of beauty back in there. I hope you guys enjoyed my home state. I'm from the Los Angeles area, very close to Long Beach. Can't wait to see what you guys discover further north. Pismo Beach, Santa Cruz, etc.

Carpinteria was "the worlds safest beach" when I was a kid. Getting a camping space there was always a trip before they had reserved spaces ...

Thanks for reviewing my home of Ventura. The bike path from Ventura marina goes up to Santa Barbara. It’s a gorgeous ride that follows the ocean the whole time. This area is great for surfing cuz Ventura is right at the bend of California so it gets southern and western waves converging so it’s great for building up the waves year around. There is lots of camping in the area, esp if you have an RV. Tony’s pizza is an institution in Ventura. Personally I like toppers pizza. But downtown has the best restaurants. Indian (Taj), Thai (Rice), 50s diner Busy Bee, kao ramen, Mexican (snapper jacks), plus many more I highly recommend. Best coffee/tea and gelato at Palermo’s. Best wine tasting restaurant and cheese store is paradise pantry. Get their killer Mac and cheese and wine flight. Just outside of downtown is my fav restaurant, cafe nouveau. Best coffee and pastry is Butter and Fold. Santa Paula has such a great downtown. The oil museum is surprisingly good. Great Mexican food at tlachipachi. Best burger joint is Fosters Freeze. Get the hot fudge shake, fish and chips with zucchini fries instead of French fries. Sooo good. Fresh oranges off the trees are the best. They have a New Orleans style place called Rabelais. Best beignets besides the ones at cafe nouveau. Lake casitas is a nice campground. So glad you came this year. There’s more water in the lake. I recommend for next time checking out Foster Red Mountain campground. They have one side for rvs and the other for mostly tents but rvs are welcome. It’s a beautiful spot near town. Just make sure you bring fly paper cuz sometimes flies will sneak in from the nearby creek. But they usually don’t bug me too much. Please come back and see even more of what Ventura has to offer.

I've lived in Ventura most of my life and have never been to Tony's. I too prefer Topper's, just had it the other night and it was so yummy. I'd add Ojai Pizza as a place to visit for good pizza, it's definitely on the expensive side but the bacon, chicken ranch pizza is to die for! I second the Snapper Jack's recommendation, it's one of my favorites, I adore their shack sauce. I'm surprised to hear you mention Foster's Freeze, I could've sworn I read in the news recently that all Foster's have closed due to the S20/hr raise hike so if the one in SP still exists, that's good to hear. We've lost so many good "hole in the wall" Mom and Pop shops it's heartbreaking.

As a Ventura native, I burst out laughing on the way you said Carpinteria (simply like Car pin ter e a) and Ojai (o-hi). Also, when you said it was in the 70s and can start feeling the heat coming, that ais the heat you get in Ventura. Like low-80 is lucky as a high at all in the summer... it is in the 70s throughout the summer, especially in the downtown area. Only time it really get warm is if, and a big if, a dead non-breeze day because there seems to always be a breeze on-shore.
