@@ZombieNation-bo3pu You were there at the best time because this is not the original Cafe Del Mar from 1993, but the Three 'n One remix from 1997, which peaked in '98. The 2 "original" remixes were not that bad, but not even close to this one.
I still wonder how this song got so much success, although we all loved it at the club where I played in the 2000s. I thought it would die out like all big hits, but it didn't, it became an eternal classic from it. I'm still a fan of these sounds, I put in so many mixes, I recreated it with fruityloops, edited the original for mix to be longer, shorter or different. This tune made me so much enjoy, creativity, fun and good times and more on it will!

A lot of familiar classic hardware from back in the day. Here's my observations: • Mixer is a Mackie 32/8 bus with the 24 channel expander • Seems the percussion is coming from an Akai 3200XL with 8 output expanded going to the Mackie • Red synth is the original Clavia Nord Lead • Roland Synth is a JV-2080 which is doing the pads and the plucks • Baseline seems to be coming from at Yamaha TX802 which was popular for baselines then • Still not sure what the Emu Orbit 9090 is doing (could be the kick if it's not sampled Akai) • Blue'ish synth above the Nord is a Roland JP-8000 not a Yamaha CS1x • Compressor at the top of the rack is a Behringer Composer Pro or an Autocom • Below that looks like a Behringer Denoiser • Roland SRV-330 below the Akai • Above the Yamaha TX is an SPL GoldMike 9844 • Above the Mackie looks like a BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer
hey!...good observation..i think jay (the studio owner) bought the Emu orbit later as it was hyped at the time (this video was made about 10 years after the release of the remix) i was one of those who jumped on the orbit right away as i had the Emu morpheus prior and still have a XL-1 turbo that came out afterwards ..but this remix and recording was released a few years before the Ortbit did...so i dont think it made it to the remix...
I never had the Orbit, but lately I have been contemplating picking one up for fun. I also miss the original Nord. I had a Nord 3 and eventually sold it. Hardware will always be fun for me no matter how much easier it can be using the computer.
I really really like this....used to dance to this and other electronic music hits in the early 2000s until 4am. Going to listen to this on winamp now. Thanks!

Very first Nordlead is from 1995, not 1994. And can't have been used to make the original Cafe Del Mar tune... Actually most of the equipment used in this video was not around at the time of the tune release. ;-)

I’m guessing you don’t have access to this studio set up any more Mr Straesser? Because this video is a piece of musical history and if you had the opportunity to go back and do some live tweaking to the Three N One mix I’m sure that there’d be a huge audience for some alternate versions. Your mix is probably the only one that has ever mattered for this track and I’d love to her some dubs.

Yes,Agree.I still use an Emu XL-1 Turbo synth (so does Dave Lee alias Joey Negro ) with the Orbits Rom Chips (Techno Yard..) a Cazio cz101 with that cheesy House organ patch,yamaha TG-33 (same sounds as Moby's Sy22 and the strings of the "GO anthem..Classic,the yamaha FB-01 FM module with that metallic Bass sounds used in all the 80's Euro tracks..and well ...gotta have!
For me the Three N One remix is still the best one. I love how the sounds play and interact with one another even though there are probably effects and sound missing.
Most artists probably didn't, a Dutch radio DJ mucked around with some cassettes on a modified deck and used a psuedonym to publish it and play it on the radio and it blew up completely to his surprise.

Some of the artists probably were not aware they were making the next big thing, just because it was such a huge time of experimentation going on. Try to see these kind of things for what a viral video is nowadays: it can be impossible to grasp what makes a viral video go viral beforehand.

Sorry,read the comments...this is in fact Andre Strausse alias " three'n'one' ..who in 2010 went back to the studio belonging to "Jay",with his hardrives and reloading his session that made the "three'n'one" mix,i found his video and downloaded it,not knowing that he was forced to take it down by the record label..he commented here...and to answer your quesion,this is not a sample loop,he sequenced it all..
Mastertracker510 looks to be the Roland Super Jv synth module but he also had a Akai 3000 sampler and the yamaha,also the Emu Orfbit version 1(or v.2 with the rom upgrade?) drum duties are split up between the various sampler/synths.see how the drum track cuts off when he pulls out the cartridge?

@Gerhild...the title "the original instruments that Played it" was not my doing either.thats what HE tittle it and I'm sure he means the older synths in the studio.if you were into sequencing & midi that long and with a hit such as this one..you would also UPDATE YOUR GEAR to include some of the latest most popular (The Nord Lead).but as u can see the retro hard drives & Cubase (I think,I used an Alesis Mmt8 like Orbital did at one time ) fits the story..
It’s probably half and half these days, there’s a huge resurgence in hardware only electronic music making and it’s an amazing time to be alive as there’s a huge amount of decent hardware available
