    A truely universal synthesizer workstation. Eventhough it was famous for it’s use in house and dance music, it also found it’s way to other genres like gothic darkwave music. There is even a version of Gary Numan’s Down in the park (a live version form the late 90’s) where the famous M1 piano sound is used. It’s instantly reconizable when you hear it. Some game music composers have also used the M1, I reconize the Universe sound in the intro of the Darkman videogame on the amiga and other sounds in Shadow Of The Beast. The Panflute sound reminds me a lot of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. The M1’s legacy is everywhere and I quite enjoy using the M1 iPad app for it’s sounds. This synth made a huge impact on so many genres of music that it deserves the name “Universal Synth”.😇

    I bought one of the last new ones in Ireland as production came to an end . Had it for many years. Amazing synth, polyphony was it's only limitation. I left it go a few years back as I have fa-08 now and it does all I want. Guy who bought it from me couldn't believe how well I kept it. He snapped it right up. Superb synth. Great demo Dr.Mix!!!

    I think every New Age musician during early 90's including me, was using the PAN FLUTE for almost every track. You'll find it on my Valley Of Joy CD on my channel. There were many ways it could be enhanced, with reverb, delay etc. and mixed with other sounds.

    Growing up during the late 80's/early 90's in the uk, The M1 featured in many dance tracks back then. Piano 16 is THE go-to sample for piano riffs. Fantastic synth. Defined the 90's for me 👍

    Songs that used the following patches:
    (00) Universe - "Don't Try So Hard" by Queen
    (01) Piano16' - "Ride on Time" by Black Box, "Rhythm Is a Dancer" by Snap!, "I've Been Thinking About You" by Londonbeat
    (03) Ooh-Aah - "I'm Going Slightly Mad" by Queen
    (11) E.Piano1 - Anything that used this?
    (17) Organ2 - "Show Me Love" by Robin S, "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" by Crystal Waters, "Please Don't Go" by Double You (cover of KC and the Sunshine Band), "Children (Dream Version)" by Robert Miles, "Don't Stop Movin'" by Livin' Joy, basically any deep house track isn't complete without this patch.

      Ivan Hernandez, I believe it was also used on a track from Belgium which was released on DRA Records in 1991 - it was called Altitude, by Defcon (Volume 3.) The drum break makes it sound a bit dated, but it's still a fantastic track!

    Synths at the time had a real flavor. I own the MODX and several other newer synths, it's extremely modular and sounds awesome, but no patches really stand out. I started up my Old JV1080 and was still amazed at some of the sounds and how recognisable and unique they were, do an episode on it!

    Lovely to see even a professional like Dr. Mix getting all lost in these sounds with a dreamy smile. The most fascinating thing about good synths is that you have so much fun trying out the presets even without playing an actual tune on them.

      As I recall Joe Zawinul was behind the creation of the M1. My U20 had most of the sounds this had and I liked combining it with other synths and vst synths too, plus it made a good sample source for sound editors. Then one day the glue for the weighted keys started to melt.

    I had one and loved it until an airline butchered it. I always loved the M1's joystick vs. separate pitch/mod wheels- for whatever reason, Korg never went exactly back to that design, I thought the newer plastic-covered oval version felt cheaper. My favorite stock preset was probably 42, Overture. I also loved pitch-bendable drums!

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Korg never went exactly back to that design" - That would be because the M1 JS design actually was horrible, and broke far more often than it should have. The current JS design, (Kronos, Krome), is much better.
