15:38 theres actually a very good reason for this. The director lured Jack Palance into the set with pieces of moose jerky and then locked him in the room while he was distracted, and wouldnt let him leave until hed recorded a few scenes
You should do Weird West-a-thon. Billy the Kid vs Dracula, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter... There's so much riffing potential in films that combine scifi and western themes. I'd especially like to see you review Beast of Hollow Mountain, it's sort of a prototype of The Valley of Gwangi, even having some input from Willis O'Brien.
It was a LOT funnier when that huge styrofoam BOULDER hit that horse right in the head in Jess Franco's "DRACULA", and the horse didn't seem to notice. (And they left the shot in the film!)
I have just found your channel it's great. I live in the UK and in our summer holidays me and my friends rented half of you movies you have reviewed and watched them. This movie I can remember going the cinema to watch it and also renting it early 80s. Excellent channel keep up the good work
random guy, thats Anne-Marie Martin, she played Doreau on the comedy series Sledge Hammer!, was married to Michael Crichton and wrote Twister.. She is a babe, watch her in Sledge Hammer!, total babe in that.
Epcot? NOPE , more likely Ontario Place Cinesphere! INFO "Cinesphere is the world's first permanent IMAX movie theatre. Built in 1971, its design is of a triodetic-domed structure, akin to a geodesic dome, similar to that of the later Spaceship Earth, the icon of Walt Disney World's Epcot theme park."
That I-beam bonking Jack Palance in the head at the end of this turd is one of the funniest thing I’ve seen on film. I don’t know what that says about me as a human being but… YES, IT IS WORTH IT… for just that .25 seconds of pure cinematic gold.
Well, that was quite a journey into the debts of Canadian cinema. And it was so worth it! Thank you so much, Brandon! So, what's next? Back to American cult films, or is it time for another country to "prove their worth"? Turkey, Italy, France... or maybe you should revisit Russia again? Would you like to see "Viy"(1967), one of Hideo Kojima's favourite cult films?
I remember seeing this movie as a kid in a cinema (we couldn't get in to see the Bond movie we were trying to see). The Palance scene where he's hit on the head was burned into my brain, and as bad as the movie was to that point, it then became the worse movie I'd ever seen. Thanks for the review.
The computers look more like Commodore Pets than Vic-20s. I think Honeywell must have negotiated to have a product placement for their line of terminals in this movie as they're everywhere. I also find it amusing the best weapons the resistance on Delta 3 could come up with was a bunch of poles and stuff. With the kind of materials and technology that's probably laying around you'd figure someone could make some improvised firearms, flame throwers, or some IEDs.
Jack Palance, getting hit on the head was the highlight of the movie, also unfortunate to borrow the radiation hat from the James Bond movie Doctor No👍
3:08 That's actually a Honeywell Terminal BTRM 121C 001, not trying to hurt the joke but it's clearly labeled and I got curious. Points for getting the time period right though. Wow never heard so many "oots" & "hooses" before, always thought that was an exaggeration. 5:44 hey look it's Nicholas Campbell.
Watching again.. the "Star Streak" looks like some Imperial ship builders at Kuat Drive yards decided to build an Enterprise replica out of spare parts
@The Once and Future King well, if I remember correctly, the "saucer" bit does have a cut pie/pizza like appearance, made from triangular sections.... Besides, I said "spare" parts, could be made from a star destroyer's septic tank, fitting for the quality of the movie
There's a new sun rising up angry in the sky. There's a new voice crying, but not afraid to die. Let the old world make believe, it's blind and deaf and dumb. But nothing can change the shape of things to come.
Interesting trivia - "Kim" was played by Anne-Marie Martin (Toronto born), Who co-starred in the TV series "Sledgehammer", and was formally married to Michael Crichton (Yes, THAT Michael Crichton!)
Just caught this, and loved it! I'm making the connection here and posing the image of Jack P getting head-bopped WITH the helmet on. (Hey, turns out that helmet may not be so stupid after all.)
Poor science existed in season 1. A moon breaks free of the Earth's gravity? And then somehow travels to another star system in no time at all? The premise was bullshit, scientifically.
Barry Morse "left" because Friedberger didn't want him. Friedberger offered Morse a substantial pay cut to get Morse to "leave" voluntarily, but Morse accepted it.... Forcing Friedberger to dump Morse outright.
I know you joked about the robots being rejects from 'Doctor Who', but they do look a little like a disco version of the robots in the classic story 'The Dominators'.
Dokka Chapman aha! The dwarves in spray painted cardboard with the ridiculous gun arms. . . The way they swing out was the special effects equivalent of bashing your head against a brick wall. . . That was after hartnell wasnt it? Early troughton
I saw this movie on cable when I was 12-13 or so. Being a huge fan of robots, I kind of liked it, even though I realized that it wasn't very good. Anne-Marie Martin in her form-fitting uniform didn't hurt either. :) Useless trivia: The front of the Starstreak spaceship model is made from a Star Trek K7 Space Station model kit by AMT.
Oh the humanity! Wells never had it THIS bad! And this remark is coming from a guy whose introduction to the father of modern science fiction was - of all things - a BOY'S LIFE comic strip version of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS at age 10! Man, Wells film producers Alexander Korda and George Pal are SO sorely missed. And as much as Wells disapproved of Korda's finished 1936 film of THINGS TO COME (which Wells himself adapted from his own novel as screenwriter), he would have hated this even more had he lived to see the late 70's. Oh and as far as Canada's film scene goes, David Cronenberg remains THE greatest Canadian filmmaker of all time... well, in my opinion, anyway. Love the rock n' roll rendition of Canada's national anthem, by the way!
Nicki was played by Carol Lynely,, perhaps bedt known as Noni from The Poseidon Adventure (1972).🚢 Great movie! Hopefully it will get the Brandon treatment someday! 🤞
I mean, the super computer seeming to side with the bad makes sense if super science bad guy was the designer or had "hacked" it... Kinda doubt that was in the plot though...
17:36 And Blu-Ray!! The Blu just came out from Blue Underground; in fact, my pre-order arrived only a couple of days ago, an upgrade to their DVD. I MAKE POOR CHOICES ...Also, if you think THIS is cheap and boring and robs the dignity of a well-loved actor, I'd like you to meet a friend of mine named END OF THE WORLD (1977) with Christopher Lee.
I thought all Canadian Sci/Fi movies starred John Colicos?!! I thought it was a National Law or something! Was a huge fan of the Korda Classic from the 30's... so I tried this one years ago. (BIG mistake!) Pity too... Cause Jack Palance was Cool Squared!
I am always surprised when good actors agree to these ridiculous roles. I guess it is hard to say no to a paycheck. BTW, Palance does some very fine acting in a 1956 Playhouse 90 (live TV) production of "Requiem for a Heavyweight" which I watched several years ago on TH-cam. I don't think it is on YT any longer, but it may be available on some other platform. It is worth checking out.

Excellent input Scott. Truly. 🤘
I'd like to see some of that on here.
Don't forget "Curse of the Undead", though that one was actually pretty decent for a '50s flick.
This channel is criminally under subbed. Thanks for letting me know about all these crazy old films, Brandon!👌😆👍👌😆👍👌😆👍
"A Helmet that robs Jack Palance of even more of his dignity"
Tenold is a fucking poet.
Whys does that comment make me think Brandon is unaware of Hawk The Slayer?
Regardless of how BAD the movie is, Jack will ALWAYS be the BEST actor in it.
5:08 it's a good thing I'm not a millionaire or I'd pay Brandon $5000 to do an entire review in that voice
I love when they let a piece of decorated Styrofoam hit Jack Palance on the head.
It was a LOT funnier when that huge styrofoam BOULDER hit that horse right in the head in Jess Franco's "DRACULA", and the horse didn't seem to notice. (And they left the shot in the film!)
The Shape Of Things To Come, also titled, The Funny Things We Made Jack Palance Do.
Yea
I think Jack Palance filmed his most of his scenes in his den. That room looks like one
Jack Palance must have been low on cash or drunk.
YES GOD! That Dune reference was iconic! It gave me things i didn't know I needed !
Things to Come was also made in Britain and released in 1936. it IS based on the HG Wells novel and it is GREAT!
I have just found your channel it's great. I live in the UK and in our summer holidays me and my friends rented half of you movies you have reviewed and watched them.
This movie I can remember going the cinema to watch it and also renting it early 80s.
Excellent channel keep up the good work
I'm gonna take a guess that the only reason they didn't film any of this at Expo 67 is because Battlestar Galactica was filming there that day.
11:43 is the best part of this video cuz I love how he does small skits to match up with the movie 😆😆😆
Yay! A Heavy Metal reference!
@July 24 Pictures
What's you number 1?If you can recommend something interesting I'll be obliged.Ta
@July 24 Pictures
Thanks,will check it out.
Canda also gifted us with The Final Sacrifice! Rowsdower, Zap Rowsdower...
At least Star Crash has Caroline Munro.
And a way cooler robot who sexually desired the lead heroine...wait a minute? Never mind. :(
Tits can make any movie better. More tits = Better movie. Ask Russ Meyer.
The blonde on this one seemed to have a decent booty and legs
random guy, thats Anne-Marie Martin, she played Doreau on the comedy series Sledge Hammer!, was married to Michael Crichton and wrote Twister.. She is a babe, watch her in Sledge Hammer!, total babe in that.
..You never saw Carol Lynley when she was younger? Wow! (BTW, she just passed away on Sept. 3rd - heart attack).
They got all their weapons from a Frank Frazetta painting! (quote) OMG, I LOVE your references!
I honestly want to see him take a crack at "Dune" now.
Fulgrim2 in 2020
I’m onboard with that
Robot has Robot from " Lost in space " arms.
Jack Palance Don's the helmet of silence.
@@johnbockelie3899 He should've kept it on for the final scene, it might have prevented a minor concussion.
look on the bright side Canada did gave us some awesome voice over actors
I just watched Cellar Dweller in a VHS horror movie night. It seems a perfect fit for your style.
5:09 I had to pause I was laughing so hard.
Speaking of Jack Palance, could you review the Gor series?
The 1936 British version "Things to Come" is a classic.
" Han, when do we get to the Death Star?".
" In a while kid, now sit back and wait!!".
Jack Palance, Clubbed over the head is the climax of the film.
Now available on TH-cam.

Or maybe Montreal's Biosphere.
+Blackevil915 No, it's Ontario place. The connecting walkways and everything are unmistakable.
3:07 It's not a VIC-20, but nice to see they still use Honeywell computers in the "tomorrow after tomorrow".

I'm gonna miss punk rock "Oh Canada."

This has got to be one of your best reviews... lotta effort put into it. Good job.
You could say this movie doesn't have the budget to show a space battle, until you realize that freaking Starcrash had a space battle!
The computers look more like Commodore Pets than Vic-20s. I think Honeywell must have negotiated to have a product placement for their line of terminals in this movie as they're everywhere.

P.S. Myself, and most of us down here love your show and all things Canada. Love from OR-Y-GUN (Oregon, though NOT Portland, mercifully)
Hahahaha... the screen effect from the Original Series Star Trek episide, "Arena", whenever they're talking to the Metrons - 11:31

@The Once and Future King nah ..they do fantastic at ramming other ships, ESPECIALLY other Imperial ships
Who did that rock version of "O Canada"? That's pretty cool.

I KNEW she looked familiar! Doreau! Loved Sledge Hammer, got the series on DVD.
Oh, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review Zardoz! I saw it recently, and I had NO idea what it was about!
Wow.... This movie was funny as fuck. I busted out laughing when I saw the fake falling prop bounced off the dudes head. LOL.....!!!
Just caught this, and loved it! I'm making the connection here and posing the image of Jack P getting head-bopped WITH the helmet on. (Hey, turns out that helmet may not be so stupid after all.)
This was a great episode. The most I've laughed in a while.
this, Queen Kong, and A*P*E are hilarious. so much more to discover too!
11:15 so that’s where solo got the idea from
Don't worry Brandon Canada did Friday the Thirteenth the Series so it's not all bad.
As well as the original Black Christmas, Barbadook, and A Christmas Story.
Tin-Hopper Scott Pilgrim is also in Canada, and we got a fun game out of it.
15:28 - Another black belt from the Shatner-Fu dojo.
you need to do frankenhooker
I see you saw the episode of MST3000 Space Pods or Pod People or whatever with "trumpy" the alien pod thing.
Ironically, Barry Morse left Space 1999 after season 1 because he felt the poor science was making the show unrealistic...

Nicki was played by Carol Lynely,, perhaps bedt known as Noni from The Poseidon Adventure (1972).🚢 Great movie! Hopefully it will get the Brandon treatment someday! 🤞
This channel is better than Net Flix and you know it but refuse to admit it.
3:30 If that was referring to HEAVY METAL, please review that one!

My favourite movie I regret to have rewatched as an adult.

SSJGSamuel that's my favorite
It's one of my least favorites. The only one I hated more was Godzilla's Revenge.
Kim’s 70’s hair was totally hot.
No mention of the fact that Nicholas Campbell plays the protagonist?
can't wait to see this on MST3K
I think that dial thing they used to kill caball is based on the torture device from 1984
I remember being really frightened by the robots in this movie when I was a very young kid.
I can just see the people walking out of the theater asking for their money back a few minutes into this awful movie.
I have a hard time trying to find the book. Also there is a movie adaptation from the thirties.
The story of a man and his robots versus a machine and it's humans.
I thought all Canadian Sci/Fi movies starred John Colicos?!! I thought it was a National Law or something!

To me, this feels like a prequel to "Space Mutiny."

HEEEYYYYY..!
That's the guy from DaVinchi's Inquest, right?
Nice, Anne Marie Martin, was married to Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton. Was also on the show Sledge Hammer in the 90's.
So the text scroll uses "it's" when "its" would be correct. Guess it really *was* prescient!
You predicted a game mechanic in 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn. You can indeed hide in tall grass to avoid being detected by robots.
I am always surprised when good actors agree to these ridiculous roles. I guess it is hard to say no to a paycheck. A well known fact, in Japan this movies alternate title is “Attack of the Garbage Cans” for good reason as well.
Have to ask if it hasn't been already: what's the song that plays at the start of the Canuksploitation series? "Oh, Canada?"
@Al Figured that was the case, but wasn't sure.
