I consider this a truly under appreciated story. It had a good plot reminiscent of Power of the Daleks, and despite the New Paradigm Daleks aren't among my favorite Dalek designs I understand and respect their purpose in the story, plus I thought it was a nice tribute to the Peter Cushing Movie Daleks with pieces of that design used as inspiration. Plus I think the color scheme of the Ironside Daleks works incredibly well.
Looking back, Victory of the Daleks was definitely a set-up for a bigger Dalek story down the road, possibly one spanning multiple seasons and Doctors... I think if Moffat hadn't pivoted, that story probably would have made the paradigm fan-favorites. Now we're probably stuck with the bronze ones for the foreseeable future.
Agreed. It's a shame the show didn't stick with the Paradigm Daleks, the tweaks to the design in Asylum of the Daleks was ace. But their initial introduction in Victory of the Daleks was very poor, they had a bad paint job and a rubbish set for their reveal, so the fans were against them from the beginning.
Most likely my second favourite recolouring of the Time War/New Who design (with my favourite being the Time Lord Victorious Dalek Drones with the 1960s colour).
The design is more like vw showing of their new beatles colour range rather than machines of war. Reduce the hunch back and remove the monster eye and tone down the colours. As for the plot, it was fine. I just didn't like Matt's tantrum..
IMO this episode gets far too much hate than it deserves. It’s a beautiful callback to the show’s history, with it being a blatant adaptation of Power of the Daleks. Not to mention Moffat managed to bring the Daleks back in an effective way, after RTD made it almost impossible to. I also think The Progenitor is actually a very cool addition to the Daleks lore, though it’s a shame this is the only time it’s seen or mentioned. I also personally love the design of the paradigm Daleks they are my favourite design. I love how much bigger and imposing they are compared to the Ironsides. Their voices are also a massive improvement. The colours never bothered me either tbh because contrary to casual viewers beliefs the Daleks have always been colourful. I also appreciate that the paradigm Daleks are an effective blend of the Classic and New who styles. The only glaring flaw that I can’t ignore from the episode is it’s pacing, it definitely needed to be a two part story. xx
To elaborate: If Thay and Jast hadn't been killed, they could have time-jumped with Caan. But because of a lack of whatever fueled their time traveling machine, they could only jump forward a few years to from the Great Depression to WWII.
3:18 "Do you think we'll ever see any Daleks like this again in the show?" Well, in a way, I suppose Revolution of the Daleks was sort of arching towards that being a plot point, but it soon being outweighed by the Doctor not knowing who she was and the Death Squad Daleks beaming down to Earth to destroy them. The pacing in that special was awful, as with all of Jodie's episodes.
I'm of the opinion that the Ironside Daleks are actually survivors of the Time War itself, pending what happened in Day of the Doctor. Where like the Metaltron, and the Emperor Dalek, barely survived the crossfire and subsequent inferno to then fall through time, where arguably like the other two examples mutated ever so slightly in the process (depending on how you look at it). After landing in a time pre 1940, they came across another survivor of the Time War, the Progenitor, and from this devised the plan to construct and use Bracewell, and the rest is history. For me this theory just adds up more so than that they come from Journey's End, granted the Davros based Daleks argument does add up, plus it makes the ending of Journey's End just that more satisfying in what the Doctor-Donna did, leaving no Daleks spare.
Personally I still don't believe that they were deemed impure due to being grown from Davros' cells. I now genuenly believe that it was the time travel that mutated them.
I sometimes like to think that, in an alternate universe, the Ironsides could actually have been robots or piloted by little people during WWII. This could have been something that the War Master does on the side, casually making new timelines and experimenting for his proclivity for war games. Or heck, maybe he's grooming Humanity in that timeline as a backup plan/reserves for the Time War, since he could've had charges on him dropped for it and he was drafted.
Ideally they'd be robots entirely to keep up with the speedy paramaters of shooting down fighter jets from the ground, rather than mechs. I'd be pretty interesting to see True Daleks react to Machines made in their image that behave staunchly different.
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 I won't lie, that'd be interesting too. Like , they'd either react with disgust or disdain I'd imagine. Their casings are literally extensions of themselves and I bet they'd find pure technically-driven casing's with positronic brains to be abhorrent to them.
I very fun inversion of expectations for what you'd think Daleks would be doing during world war 2! They were so good at hiding htheir hate I actually felt bad when the doctor started hitting one with a wrench and it asked it if was about being offered tea. It makes me sad their legacy with the paradigm Daleks didn't get seen through, it really see,ed like they'd be capable of so much more than what happened in Asylum.
It would have been good if the progenorator produced the 60 style Daleks with a black dalek and a supreme either from planet of the Daleks or remembrance. This would have been more consistent with pure Daleks pre time war. I wasn’t a big fan of the pogenerator Daleks. Also could have had a fire fight between the new Daleks and Ironsides with possibly 1 being destroyed and the other 2 escaping to create a new civil war like what was kind of touched on at the Doctor who experience. The new dalek could fly of to restore old school Daleks to the universe all be it with some machine upgrades like the restoration empire style.
Worth noting there was another Ironside somewhere off camera as it was later sent to the Asylum. Perhaps he had a bit more of a sense of self preservation and stayed out of the paradigm's way, or was abandoned in Earth while gathering supplies for repairs.
I feel like the conflict about impurity would've made much more sense if the Ironsides were human-born Daleks from year 200,100 tbh. Plus, it would've served as a nod to the fact that this is a show about time travel, and the doctor's encounters with his enemies aren't perfectly linear
You know what Victory of the Daleks gave me the idea of? The Daleks being the reason The Nazi Regime in Germany came to be via the Dalek controller stationed in Germany by the order from The Dalek Supreme/Emperor To create and use the Nazi Regime as a puppet empire and using Hitler as a mouthpiece and the whole of the Nazi regime like chess pieces to conquer the world insidiously with the help of the Axis powers What a great way to use the Daleks, the best inspired Nazi antagonists in sci-fi as the creators of the Nazis in WW2
Yo bumps I was watching The Dalek Invasion of Earth and I got to the part in the third episode where the Dalek is confused by a headless mannequin and call it "subcultural" The scene itself might make for a good video along with the implications it creates in regards to Dalek culture and knowledge at this point in time.
it should be noted that according to one source, in a hypothetical timeline where the doctor didnt appear for Victory of the Daleks, the ironsides would continue to fight in WW2 and end it in europe 1-2 years earlier than predicted. however, during a conference between the allies (i wanna say Yalta but not sure if the timeline allowed that still) the USA and the USSR made the UK agree to destroy the ironsides, as the ironsides adamantly refused to side with any nation besides the UK and they were too powerful a weapon to allow to stay solely under UK control in the end, all the ironsides were destroyed via a nuclear weapons test after the end of the war
What i don't understand is in series 1 the doctor states that 1 dalek ship has over 2000 daleks on board? But in VOTD there are only 3 daleks and Two if them are the ironside colours
I never understood the progenitor device..you would think something that could kickstart a race of pure daleks would just allow any lesser dalek to use "we are in need of a new pure daleks" "na ah" "the fuck you mean na ah?"
So....explain how a green ironside dalek got into the asylum! Yes, one was there with the union Jack ID badge!! Mind boggling....did total disintegration mean transport to the asylum? Did one emergency temporal shift away at the point of destruction?

@SomeBoiOnline has a paradigm Dalek video which changed my feelings towards them
Before the plug was pulled, there really was big plans for them
Sorry everyone! I said the episode was set in 1944, it's actually 1941! My bad...
One of my favourite Dalek designs. I got the "to victory" on a t-shirt for Christmas & I was so happy with it
The dieselpunk design of the RTD era Daleks works so well in a WW2 era setting
If we are to see Dalek's like this again there would have to be a very good reason behind it.
Maybe a story set in the month between Churchill calling Eleven and Eleven arriving.
@@PerovNigma maybe

Victory of the Daleks would have worked well as a Cult of Skaro episode.

I don’t like the story, but the Ironsides look so cool I just can’t ignore them. I need to get figures of these guys at some point!
My daughters favourite episode, because the Doctor saves the world with a jammie dodger
Happy new year Dalek Bumps!
Happy New Year!
Funny that a malfunctioning cyberleader was roaming London while this was happening.

Best colour scheme since the Imperial casings.

I thought it was 1941.
Would you like a cup of tea? 😁
Daleks don't like it up 'em.
This is the history buff in me but it wasnt 1944, it was 1941 😂😂 again sorry
