You can tell by the curvature of the magazine whether it's an AKS-74U (5.45) or an AKMSU (7.62x39). Ribbed steel 5.45 AK mags are rare but they exist. The vast majority of 5.45 AK mags are polymer (typically polyamide). You can tell the difference between an AKMSU and a Zastava M92 by the barrel length and the forearm/handguard.
*Note:* The "S" indicates a folding stock. The "U" indicates a short barrel.
In Stalker it's actually AKS-74U, because it's chambered in 5.45 and used by NPCs a lot and the only reason behind that mag is expensive license for real gun models.
I love the mags that are ribbed for our pleasure, but the orange/brown Bakelite mags are also classic
@@stibium4806 Some mods change it to an AKMSU in 7.62x39 and keep the "banana mag" shape. Other mods revamp the in-world and in-view weapon model to look more like an AKS-74U. And some other mods go so far as to have various compact rifles in a variety of calibers. I recall seeing a gameplay video, don't remember the mod, and there was a Zastava M92!

Check this guy’s channel and look at the channels he is interested in, and he seems to be interested in wargaming. While this isn’t certain, and certainly not full proof, it seems it lead to him not telling lies.

This guy, unless he joined in like the 90s or something, was never in the Russian Army. This weapon would now be considered OBSOLETE for the modern Russian Army. They would be using the AK12u or some other gun, now. It's like the AK47, The Russian Military doesn't use it anymore.

the best reload animations either involve aggressively swiping out the depleted magazine with the new one and putting your hand underneath the weapon to charge the bolt or tossing out the depleted magazine and tossing the next one in effortlessly, then classfully and delicately cranking the bolt with with your trigger finger

The original ak 74u from modern warfare 2007 isn't an aks 74u.
It's modeled after one of the airsoft beta spetsnaz guns, originally manufactured by Tokyo marui, much copied later.
I actually have one of these myself, my fiance likes the weight, since the reciver is polymer.
The beta spetsnaz airsoft weapons are not real firearms, they do not exist. There are several discrepancies on the Ingame model, as featured in mw:
The stock is wrong, aks carbines don't have underfolding stocks.
The reciver appears to be milled. This is incorrect, the aks has a stamped reciver.
The magazine is bacalite in color, but is to curved, leading me to belive it's in 7.62x39mm. The aks uses less curved magazines, in 5.45x39mm.
The barrel is to short. The beta spetsnaz has a handguard and gas tube that looks correct, but it's to short. The aks features a slightly longer barrel, and furniture.

AKS-74U does have slightly greater recoil due to its gas block which is supposed to improve reliability at the cost of increased recoil
