    This song drew me in back in 1977. I saw the video on UK TV programme Top Of The Pops and it was NO.1 (for 5 weeks). I was totally mesmerised by them and to this day, my love for them had not diminished, 45 years on. They are outer-worldly. No other pop group comes anywhere near to them.

    Abba's velvet vocal sofa...Aaaahhg!How beautiful and relaxing.Frida's and Agnetha's utopic vocal and visual chemistry is out of this world!Some kind of addiction that you can't escape.The official video to this track is an iconic ABBA trademark.You gotta watch it.A blueprint of a whole era.Their early discography is more "carefree".Their later stuff is way more sophisticated, and sometimes times deep and dark.No matter all the venomous,humiliating critical voices at the time by the press esp in UK and America.They finally attracted a HUGE and loyal fan base that's an army of squillions.All kind of people and ages any color.From popsters,disco fans and classical music lovers to hip hopers, rappers,Lgbtq+community, metalheads,Punks and many famous Rockers that love them real hard,either openly or secretly.And greatly influential.David Grohl of FOO FIGHTERS, said that he sobbed like a baby together with his mother when he listened to Abba's 2 new songs last September, after 40 years of hiatus.Corey Taylor of SLIPKNOT, Jonathan Davies member of KORN,lead singer of SMASHING PUMPKINS and GENE SIMMONS of KISS,RAINBOW'S RICHIE BLACKMORE,some member of THE RAMONES and J.FRUSCIANTE of RHCPeppers are also self confessed big fans of Abba's "pop music" purity.John has often played and sung solo their S.O.S. classic while being on tour with the Peppers.Abba is also "all family music" to enjoy and they had oftenly been discribed as a commercial and cultural "phenomenon".And since you've asked A.B.B.A stands for the names of the band's members.A(Anni-Frid or Frida-the seductive spicy red haired beauty)Benny(the music composer and self taught keyboard wizzard)Bjorn( genius lyricist,vocalist and guitarist)and Agnetha(the shiny,blond perfumed angel).4 adorable legends but also so humble.And still there's no one to touch them in their kingdom.Thank you for doing this band first time i really,really enjoyed guys.

    "ARRIVAL" is a multi million selling masterpiece pop album.10 weeks No1 in UK.Their 2nd No1 out of 10(!)number ones albums.(Their last No1 was their "comeback" LP "VOYAGE" November 2021).This song is a glorious recording.It's video clip is ICONIC.Really wish you had done this.Very emotional and very "personal".Do prefer their videos cause the beauty of their music matches perfectly to the exceptional striking looks of both Frida and Agnetha.CHER got inspired by this clip and the charachteristic way of Agnetha's and Frida's facial close up shots.So when she did the photo cover for the sleeve of her succesful 2018 Abba tribute album she "double posed" same iconic way.Despite not getting the acknowledgement they deserved in the USA at the time,ABBA was/is really big deal in the musicverse.Second best selling band in the history of recorded music only second to THE BEATLES.Over 400 million records.Both guys were musicians and the song composers.Frida was an ex Jazz singer singing in bands since she was 14 before doing pop music.And Agnetha was a pianist and song composer on her own.I read recently that their "GOLD Greatest hits" collection is way over 10 million units sold in the USA alone.Including all formats(cd/vynil/streaming/downloading etc).Elvis Costello often covers this while playing live.Maybe next time try their other rock-pop classic SOS.Thanx for reacting to Abba,our childhood's sacred guilty pleasure.

    Wow! A bit of a shocker that Ty liked this track. This is my favorite ABBA song. So glad that you you both “vibed” on it. As you so correctly pointed out, the vocals of the ladies are off the chain, and that’s for a few reasons, one is the beautiful voices of Agnetha and Frida and their natural ranges complimenting each other with Agnetha’s pure soprano and Frida’s warm mezzo soprano just naturally creating a pure harmony. Now mix in a stellar vocal arrangement and throw in a genius engineer, Michael Tretow, who basically came up with his own innovative way to get the biggest, fullest, sound by layering the.vocal track upon itself which doubled the sound of the vocals in the same vein as the infamous “wall of sound” Phil Spector is credited with innovating during his prolific studio recording sessions in the 60s and 70s. However, ABBA’s recording engineer Michael Tretow went a little bit further with the “wall of sound”. He is credited with creating what is often referred to as the “third voice” of ABBA.
    That “third voice” was actually the layered vocal track being laid on top of the original track but with a very slight offset in timing which resulted in the listener hearing the layered vocal track as though it’s more singers than Agnetha and Frida. The sound is often attributed to being one of the main catalyst which propelled ABBA to mega pop stars around the world. Keep on the ABBA journey because they have a huge variety of styles in their music catalog and the biggest misnomer of ABBA being a “disco” act will quickly be dispelled as you discover that what ABBA did so well (and actually still do) as witnessed by the pristine production values of their current album “Voyage” which comes 40 years after their last studio album (The Visitors).

    Abba took Disco and Pop, put it in a pot and blended it together perfectly. They were masters at creating hooks in their songs too, you would always be left with this huge earworm in your head for weeks. I believe they set the bar for modern pop going into the 80s that many pop bands took aboard and developed further.

      So well discribed.Apart from their gifted talents it took them a lot of hard work to create every recording and all this legacy.Guys were writting music while sitting together side by side, using piano and acoustic guitar when music technology wasn't that progressed so that was far more difficult.Music composition was way more organic and honest.No computerized generic policies at those times.(Agnetha was also a composer and pianist on her own).Then she and Frida were recording in the studio with their microphones between them but standing face to face to watch each others mouth movements so to get synchronized and sooth to each others eyes and expressions!Recording process was a "holy" time.I still remember the agony and the excitement each time a new Abba record was anounced to be released.It was a music world event.Same thing i experienced again late last year!Couldn't believe i'ld live to taste such a thrilling thing again.Re-lived all of my past youth and I felt the need to cry ...a lot.Same way millions of other Abba fans did across the globe.

    "Knowing me knowing you" (1976)
    is one of ABBA's most famous heartthrob songs
    The lyrics are strong and raw (some say there is a preview of the couple conflicts between Agnetha & Björn)
    And it has a powerful chorus on Agnetha and Frida, and a nice melody
    There is an excellent official video, it shows the four of them in separation situations, and plays with the images of the trios
    The part that stands out the most is the appearance of the image of Agnetha almost whispering as a reflection of Frida's main voice
    "Knowing me knowing you"
    was five weeks in a row at #1 in the UK, and one of them coincided with the #1 of "Dancing Queen" on the Billboard.
    (Just this week of April 9, 1977, 44 years ago, ABBA was #1 in the U.S. and U.K. with two different songs from the same album
    Knowing me knowing you"
    is one of their hits that ABBA recorded in spanish at 1980, with the tittle: "Conociéndome, Conociéndote",
    part of their album in spanish language
    "Gracias por la música" (1980)
    ABBA recorded in spanish after the colossal success of "Chiquitita" (1979) in Latin American countries
    I ask you if you can give one more visit to this fantastic album "Arrival"
    There is a very special ballad:
    "My love My life"
    and with a very special video, because only the blonde singer Agnetha (who is the main voice) appears
    I highly recommend it

    The success they had in the US is nothing compared to the success they had in Europe, South America & Australia. ABBA are one of the all time biggest bands ever 2nd only to the Beatles.

  • @jay_ooh
    @jay_ooh ปีที่แล้ว

    And honestly if I'm going to put it mildly.... The place that they had the least success was probably the US as far as promotion and charting with songs. Now the UK and Australia. That's a whole other story. They were borderline fever epidemic there in both those places, every single album they released including the last album 2021's Voyage... And the lead single from that album, got to the top 10 in the singles charts

      I have watched a documentary on ABBA's first rip to Australia and it was epic 😎 The US sometimes has artist, even great ones, get lost in the artistic noise of the time period. I recall my older brother and sister loving ABBA and always playing their records big time 😎

      @jay_ooh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reactionextraction The big thing with the US is that it's a market that you have to constantly be promoting yourself in, you have to spend long periods of time in the US and everyone know that ABBA for notorious Burnett wanting to travel for very long periods of time especially Agnetha
