This is probably one of my favourite ABBA songs. They wrote such bangers about breaking up because as you may know, Agneta and Bjorn divorced, as did Freda and Benny, so it came from the heart.

Thus The Winner Takes It All is born.

This song came out some years before they divorced. The divorce song from Agnetha and Björn is The Winner Takes It All and the one from Frida and Benny is When All Is Said And Done.

@@Lisa-M Indeed, yes. My second sentence was really just a general comment on how they could really make these sort of songs reach you.

ABBA makes you feel so many things in one song. You feel the beat of the music. You feel the lyrics. Sometimes there is a conflict in the emotions of the beat (which can be upbeat) and the lyrics (which can be depressing) ABBA does this better than any other group. They are simply one of a kind. I am so happy you have discovered them.

I'm so glad to see you again, with your new reaction to ABBA songs
    "Knowing me knowing you" (1976/1977)
is one of ABBA's most famous heartthrob songs
The lyrics are strong and raw
(some say there is a preview of the couple conflicts
between the blonde singer Agnetha & guitarist Björn)
And it has a powerful chorus on Agnetha & Frida, and a nice melody
Just as other groups specialize in their love songs,
ABBA stands out for their breakup songs,
for knowing how to use the contrasts of sad lyrics with happy music,
and for being great international hits.
These is an excellent official video,
it shows the four of them in separation situations,
and plays with the images of the trios
The part that stands out the most
is the appearance of the image of Agnetha almost whispering
as a reflection of Frida's main voice
    "Knowing me knowing you"
was five weeks in a row at #1 in the UK,
and one of them coincided with the #1 of "Dancing Queen" on the U.S.Billboard.
(Just this week of April 9, 1977, 46 years ago, ABBA was #1 in the U.S. and U.K.
with two different songs from the same album)
    "Knowing me knowing you"
is one of their hits that ABBA recorded in spanish at 1980,
    with the tittle: "Conociéndome, Conociéndote",
part of their album in spanish language
    "Gracias por la música" (1980)
ABBA recorded in spanish after the colossal success of "Chiquitita" (1979)
    in Latin American countries
    For a new suggestion,
the first heartbroken ABBA song that was worldwide hit:
    "S.O.S." (1975)
with the blonde singer Agnetha in the lead voice
the second worldwide hit to ABBA
since their victory at Eurovision with "Waterloo"
I hope to see you in next reaction to ABBA
My best regards to You from
    Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷
    South América

The real break up did happen a few years later. This is just fictional. The later songs not really (although Bjorn (writer off the lyrics) said it was). The best tear jurker is the winner takes it all.

I enjoy your insightful comments and singing along. I know I like a song when I can't help singing along. This a brilliant song. My favorite line is "in these old familiar rooms children would play" Reminds of growing up and leaving your childhood home for the last time after everyone has moved or - sadly - passed on.

Hey ! I Love your show ! And everything you mentioned about ABBA is the absolute truth. Did you know they donated their music to UNICEF during the famines in South America. CHIQUITITA was a smash hit which ABBA donated with all royalties to the UNICEF cause. To this Day, they are still receiving all the profits for UNICEF..
Another fact that most people don't realize is that ABBA sang in 5 different languages. Their Musica is purely timeless!
Like your show and take care!

ABBA was my favorite group growing up in the 70’s. They were two married couples who did split up but kept the group intact. I knew the lyrics to every song by heart.

ABBA is a whole. People just talk about the amazing voices of the two girls but they are more than that. The two guys are not always on the front but let's do some justice, the musics sung by Aghneta and Frida were also successful because they are catchy and on that Bjorn and Benny are geniuses on composing antological tunes, on the other hand this tunes wouldn't be so successful if they were sung by other girls than Frida and Aghneta, I just love them all the girls and the boys❤❤❤❤

I'm with you on this about the lyrics and that I'm a hopeless romantic, also. You are right that two people should be able to work it out if they still love each other. God bless you!
