Thanks for this info. I am now subscribed to your channel because I just bought a Hot Springs hot tub. I originally set it up with basic chlorine a few days ago and should have a technician out this week to set up the salt water system.
Interesting take on the salt water systems. However, I have had my Jacuzzi J-370 for TWENTY years. Only change the water ONCE a year. It has 24-hour circ. NEVER have ANY chlorine smell. ONLY put chlorine in AFTER you soak. It is then gone by the next time you soak as long as you soak once a week or so. You do NOT need to change anything every month or every 3 months.
You need to change your water when th TDS climb... if your are only using your ot tub once a week or so yes you can stretch your water out. I am glad you are happy with your jacuzzi
Firstly, you imply that you won’t smell chlorine in a salt water hot tub because it does not have any chlorine in it. A salt water spa IS a chlorine hot tub. It just uses the salt to create chlorine. AGAIN, the sanitizer in a salt water pool is chlorine. Secondly, you state that the smell in a public or hotel pool is chlorine when actually it is “chloramine” and is a result of the lack chlorine in the public pool. This is a huge misconception in the pool and spa marketplace. Also, salt water tubs are built better and they should be due to the incredibly harsh environment salt water creates for any kind of metal. Titanium is very resistant to corrosion, however there are other metals in the tub that will ultimately succumb to the salt water environment. A sacrificial anode is a must for any salt water pool or hot tub

First, thanks for your videos. I am researching spas and trying to decide on salt vs an @ease system. What is the costs of the replacent salt cell and are they truly lasting four months? I have an inground pool with salt and love the ease of use and after adding borate the water is so nice. Thanks again, your videos are a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much for the support. At our dealership we are finding that 80% of the cells are lasting 3 months or more. Ask your dealership but we do prorate the cells if they do not cover the 3 or more months. We do ask that you bring in a water test for that prorated price as water chemistry does affect the life. I have had salt on my hot tub for about 6 years now and I am a huge believer in the salt. If you are used to a salt water pool a salt water hot tub is incredibly easier to take care of. You should be able to find salt cells for about $100 each. I appreciate your support!
I respectfully disagree. I was a hot tub technician and a salesman later on. You are completely wrong about salt water in a hot tub. First you said bromine is softer on your skin. That is not true, ask a dermatologist about salt water vs chlorine/bromine. In fact salt water is the best thing for all skin issues including eczema. It leaves your skin soft and smooth . Salt water is not corrosive because all the parts/piping inside the tub are pvc. The only metal inside are the bolts holding the pump down maybe the ozanator and speakers if you had that added. If you say the pump will corrode you’re just lying. The inside of the pump is a molded plastic impeller that pushes the water through the pvc piping that you say corrodes. Next, if you don’t monitor the ph in any hot tub, salt water or chlorine or bromine that increases the wear on the tub. Salt water tub water can last more than a year without changing and is still crystal clear. Why don’t you tell people how many chemicals they have to buy for a salt water tub vs chlorine. For salt water 3 chemicals maybe, chlorine/bromine 15-20 easy. Balancing saltwater is way easier than chlorine. I can go on however how long has it been since you Helped a customer learn to balance their water with salt water vs chlorine. Customers want simple maintenance and lower cost. Lastly if you now sell only chlorine and bromine. You know people have to keep coming back to you to buy all those chemicals which can get very expensive when you’re buying 15 to 20 different chemicals to keep it balanced vs 2 or 3. Salt water naturally raises ph. The sweat and oils on your body are acidic so just by using your salt water hot tub you naturally lower the ph. Customers be careful, do your research don’t talk to a salesman until you understand even just some of it before you buy a hot tub. Remember the benefits are just the hot water and soaking in it , not the jets. More pumps equals more to go wrong.
We just bought a Hot Springs tub, and it's a salt system. We'll get it installed very soon. Our pool is salt and we love the water in it. No chlorine smell, no bleached swimsuits, no green hair (for blondes). We're very excited to get our spa!
We are waiting for our new Hot Springs Vangard hot tub to arrive and be installed. We have had 4 chlorine hot tubs in the past. This will be our first salt water system. We are looking for the I Care Water Monitoring System . Where do you find it and is it affordable?

The new Freshwater Salt System is amazing. Water has no strong odor and feels great! I have a 2019 Envoy. Trick is to refrain from putting too much salt and to make sure your PH is within the proper range. NYC water by me has 60ppm Calcium out of the tap. I also dip the cartidges in a water/ PH down solution for 15 minutes every once in a while. I get 4 months out of my cartidges. You barely notice the salt in the water. The salt PPM is so low. Has done no damage to my concrete pavers. People also forget that high levels of chlorine is much more corrosive than the effects than the low level of salt in the water. As with any tub, you must make sure the chlorine level doesn't go up to high. Too much chlorine and low PH will cause leaks and equipment failure on any hot tub, salt system equipped or not.

My neighbor uses Enzymes and hardly adds any chlorine at all. He keeps the water at .5 ppm...water is crystal clear.. he changes water once a year. Its a Hot Springs tub and only has an ozonator. Also, what are you thoughts about Highlife series being made with ABS backed shells that need foam and substructure support instead of hand rolled fiberglass that is self supporting. Highlife series also has shurgrip plumbing instead of clamped and glued. I know that Hot Spot and Limelight have fiberglass shells ,(unknown if they are self supporting) and clamped plumping because they are made in Mexico where the labor is cheap.

Wondering what you think about a Hotspring tub made for saltwater that’s been used with chlorine for 2 years. Would that cause damage or problems? Someone is selling a 2018 Hot Spring Jetsetter LX 3 in my area. They have switched to chlorine because the filter was cheaper. Also replaced the heating element. Red flags?
I am on the fence right now. Live in San Diego and can't decide on Jacuzzi or Hot Springs. So many Salt Water opinions good and bad out there. I wish I had a magic wand to make the decision. They both seem high end on spa spectrum, but Jacuzzi doesn't offer Salt Water so they told me everything that's bad about it. Hot Springs told me everything good about it. UGGGGGG!
They are both fantastic tubs! I personally am a fan of salt however you can do great things with the zone and chlorine….. mor importantly I suggest you focus on the dealership. You will form a relationship with whomever you purchase from. Which one are you more comfortable with. Which one will answer questions after the sale? How are the goggle reviews. Who has the better post sale reputation. These things are super important
Great question…. I would not recommend salt for an air bnb. I would go more of a value line series hot tub for this setting with a bromine floater. My experience has been when people get a hot tub that is not theirs they tend to rock it pretty hard. They like to push every button and turn every knob. I love ❤️ salt water this just isn’t the spot for it. I hope that is helpful. Happy to talk more about it with you

It is a great spa for your needs for the Air BnB Buying from Wayfair brings up a service issue, I would do your homework on who would service it before purchasing online. Wellis does make a good product though. Good luck The Artesians are great and they have the in-line spa frog system which is great for renters.
Hi thank you for the video. We are currently looking into a uv-c system or salt. A sepweate hot tub TH-camr mentioned that salt pools are creating a carcinogenig gas when creating the chlorine. Since we have two young kids, I was wondering if you have heard about that?
Great question and I have done a ton of research on this. I have not heard nor can I find any evidence of this…. At one point there was concern as Canada 🇨🇦 was a process to get salt systems approved to sell there. The Freshwater salt systems have been since approved and other systems such as bromine have been removed. This seems to becoming more and more of a hot topic and if Id have to guess there is a bad actor creating content that is misleading. If you find anything that states this I would really appreciate you forwarding it to me. Your young children will absolutely love the hot tub and thanks for bringing this concern to me. 😀. Thanks for the video. I have a hot springs jetsetter with the ace saltwater system. It’s from 2017 and the fittings are leaking. I bought in Southern California where it was highly recommended but have moved to Northern California and they do not recommend salt systems as they are too corrosive. I’m thinking of reverting to chlorine. Any suggestions?
Talke to a hot spring dealer, they will help you out. Salt is not corrosive if you have everything balanced and a hot tub that is built for salt and the Jetsetter is. For sure you can always switch to chlorine, but I am a huge fan of salt system and if you made the investment and if you did it in 2017 it was a big investment, I would hate for you to give up that option. If you can let me know where you are I will work on pointing you to a dealer that would be helpful. If you do decide to convert, make sure you remove the salt system and you drain it completley before swithching. I would be happy to help you out on instagram @thehottublady

Jacque, I need some advice. I purchased a chinese rebranded spa. I dont hate it, but I also dont love it (jets dont seem to do enough for me). Long story longer, I have been shopping around and thinking of trading in my 3 week old spa for a Caldera that would arrive in July, specifically the cantibria model. How much would you place one with an ozone and salt system in it price wise? They are offering to trade in my current spa and I am anticipating a 5k loss, so there's that but that's really kind of neglegable over the course of 10 years... Thoughts?....
btw we wet tested a seychelles and it was good. I know the cantibria offers more. The salt felt nice but there felt like there was a lot of chlorine. Could that have been from them being overly-cautious with shocking for our visit,ect.?
You will be happy with the cantabria. The hard part of your trade in is the link arts are almost impossible to get and when a dealer resales a trade in they will be held to service it and that makes it really hard. Cantabri as will be running 19000-24000 I would need more information on what you have to trade to give you a trade in value but it could be painful. You may try to sell it on Facebook Marketplace first. I hope thi somewhat answers your question
Hi Jacque thanks for your previous replies which are appreciated, I have a HotSpring tub and have issues with the PH always being high everything else is in the right range. but not the PH? also if there is to much salt in the system will that shut down the cell? one more thing can clean the cell? regards Nick
Ok yes too much salt will 100% shut the salt system down. Check with a test strip before reacting. If the dial is saying you are high but test strip is good you probably need a new cell. I have had a few people try to clean the cell. It helps a little but not very effective they are designed to be disposable. If your alkalinity is in line and the pH is the only thing that is climbing it is probably a risidual of the salt system. If everything is working correctly it will force the pH up and you will have to adjust every 2-3 weeks. If you pH is in line the chlorine will be more effective…. Make sure the alkalinity is in line first. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the support

I am a retired Orthopedic Massage therapist (25yrs) and need a tub that has jets that will really get into my muscles. Between Hot Springs or Caldera, which has better water force? Money isn't really a concern too much unless the lesser value has more water force. I don't really care about the color show stuff and music, but if the better pumps come with the higher end model, then so be it. All the best to you dear
I have sold both for years and they both are great. You are getting a lot more bang for your buck with the Hot Soring Highlife series. The moto massage is in matched for a therapeutic jet. I also love the soothing stream jet system. The no bypass filtration the tri-x filters give you the cleanest water possible the insulation’s unmatched. I would encourage the Hot Spring Highlife first and Caldera Utopia series second. They are both great tubs. What part of California?
I purchased a Hot Springs Envoy that stated it is salt ready but i didn't purchase the salt system when i got the spa. is it very difficult to add the salt option afterwards?
No it’s pretty simple to Do and you can add it at any time. It’s a dealer installed option. Thanks for watching. Salt is great and I do. Highly recommend it.

Not at all, you will need some additional hardware unless you purchased with the hot tub additionally. If it is 2019 or newer it would be the Freshwater salt system, if it is olde it would be the Ace system. I would contact your purchasing dealer and see what your options are.
They are both great. I am impressed with the IQ. However you will have to buy a new hot tub to get the IQ. The Icare should last 5-7 years you do need to recalibrate it ever 6 months or so. I the IQ you have to buy a new sensor every year so operational cost would be very similar. The IQ does not have an app at this time but I think that might be a good thing.
I’m buying a SEA SALT hot tub made in Canada. My hot tub is on the ocean. Any thoughts? It needs to have the water replaced ever 5 days, straight from the ocean.

We just purchased a Sundance 780 Chelsee and the salesman stated that it can be salt or chlorine setup. Of course he didn't recommend salt, but said the tub is made for either. Do you know if this is an actual salt ready tub or kind of an in-between type for either? Thx!

Hey Jacque, so my hot tub after refill is sitting at 9 oclock posistion on my salt system on my envoy - wont budge if i increase the output. my dealer said add some salt and it will. is that really the case? its perfect at 1750 right now - i felt system wasnt working right staying at 9 oclock he says it is because my system is balanced perfect but adding salt with make the gauge to go up if i run the test on the remote if i have elevated salt. just want to make sure thats correct info?
So 9 is good. If you are at 1750 please do not add salt. That dial measure two things. It measures how much salt is in your water and hot much life is left in the cell. It will bounce around but if your are in the green zone you are good. DO NOT ADD MORE SALT!!

I own a Hot Springs Aria that I just purchased a month ago and on the fence about the salt system. Is there any truth to having a salt system in hot water sinario and creating chlorine. Ive heard its not good to breathe in the chlorine mist since the hot tub is always creating its own chlorine and not being good for your health. I would love to try this out but concerned for my family's health. Thanks in advance for shedding any light on this.
So the salt system is only on 8 hours a day. Yes you are creating chlorine but it’s completely natural vs the bottled chlorine it is safer then purchased chlorine this is a non issue.
I was on the fence about the salt system until I saw your video. Getting set to order a HotSpring Grandee. Reference the I_Care water monitor, if you have that do you still have to do any other testing of the water or does it take care of all testing?
You need to get it dialed in at the beginning but once you have all the settings good it’ll handle it all. It’s awesome. I have the grandee best hot tub I have ever owned!!

I've put a down payment in April for an Envoy, delivery is expected in June! I'm so excited!!! Still not sure if I want salt system or not. So many people having problems with salt system.
I’ll agree the first two weeks of getting it dialed in are important and somewhat scary but once it’s dialed in it’s amazing. I have helped several hot runners get dialed in and I’d be happy to help you as well if you get stuck

Someone is selling a 2018 Hot Spring Jetsetter LX 3 in my area. They have switched to chlorine because the filter was cheaper. Also replaced the heating element. Red flags?
Nah it will be fine. However I would find out if it is an Ace vs a Freshwater salt system. That was the year they switched them out
I am on the fence right now. Live in San Diego and can't decide on Jacuzzi or Hot Springs. So many Salt Water opinions good and bad out there. I wish I had a magic wand to make the decision. They both seem high end on spa spectrum, but Jacuzzi doesn't offer Salt Water so they told me everything that's bad about it. Hot Springs told me everything good about it. UGGGGGG!
They are both fantastic tubs! I personally am a fan of salt however you can do great things with the zone and chlorine….. mor importantly I suggest you focus on the dealership. You will form a relationship with whomever you purchase from. Which one are you more comfortable with. Which one will answer questions after the sale? How are the goggle reviews. Who has the better post sale reputation. These things are super important
Would a saltwater tub be OK for an airbnb rental? Can it keep up as well as a chlorine tub especially with extra abuse from the guests?
Great question…. I would not recommend salt for an air bnb. I would go more of a value line series hot tub for this setting with a bromine floater. My experience has been when people get a hot tub that is not theirs they tend to rock it pretty hard. They like to push every button and turn every knob. I love ❤️ salt water this just isn’t the spot for it. I hope that is helpful. Happy to talk more about it with you

@@shoreals I carry the 735L by Artesian. It is a great spa for your needs for the Air BnB Buying from Wayfair brings up a service issue, I would do your homework on who would service it before purchasing online. Wellis does make a good product though. Good luck The Artesians are great and they have the in-line spa frog system which is great for renters.

Hi thank you for the video. We are currently looking into a uv-c system or salt. A sepweate hot tub TH-camr mentioned that salt pools are creating a carcinogenig gas when creating the chlorine. Since we have two young kids, I was wondering if you have heard about that?
Great question and I have done a ton of research on this. I have not heard nor can I find any evidence of this…. At one point there was concern as Canada 🇨🇦 was a process to get salt systems approved to sell there. The Freshwater salt systems have been since approved and other systems such as bromine have been removed. This seems to becoming more and more of a hot topic and if Id have to guess there is a bad actor creating content that is misleading. If you find anything that states this I would really appreciate you forwarding it to me. Your young children will absolutely love the hot tub and thanks for bringing this concern to me. 😀. Thanks for the video. I have a hot springs jetsetter with the ace saltwater system. It’s from 2017 and the fittings are leaking. I bought in Southern California where it was highly recommended but have moved to Northern California and they do not recommend salt systems as they are too corrosive. I’m thinking of reverting to chlorine. Any suggestions?
Talke to a hot spring dealer, they will help you out. Salt is not corrosive if you have everything balanced and a hot tub that is built for salt and the Jetsetter is. For sure you can always switch to chlorine, but I am a huge fan of salt system and if you made the investment and if you did it in 2017 it was a big investment, I would hate for you to give up that option. If you can let me know where you are I will work on pointing you to a dealer that would be helpful. If you do decide to convert, make sure you remove the salt system and you drain it completley before swithching. I would be happy to help you out on instagram @thehottublady

If it is a freshwater salt cell by Watkins it will be every 3-4 months
i like how it takes 15 minutes for you to get to the point that the tub is creating chlorine yet earlier in the video you've made the claim you don't get the chlorine smell from the tub...

Jacque, I need some advice. I purchased a chinese rebranded spa. I dont hate it, but I also dont love it (jets dont seem to do enough for me). Long story longer, I have been shopping around and thinking of trading in my 3 week old spa for a Caldera that would arrive in July, specifically the cantibria model. How much would you place one with an ozone and salt system in it price wise? They are offering to trade in my current spa and I am anticipating a 5k loss, so there's that but that's really kind of neglegable over the course of 10 years... Thoughts?....
btw we wet tested a seychelles and it was good. I know the cantibria offers more. The salt felt nice but there felt like there was a lot of chlorine. Could that have been from them being overly-cautious with shocking for our visit,ect.?
You will be happy with the cantabria. The hard part of your trade in is the link arts are almost impossible to get and when a dealer resales a trade in they will be held to service it and that makes it really hard. Cantabri as will be running 19000-24000 I would need more information on what you have to trade to give you a trade in value but it could be painful. You may try to sell it on Facebook Marketplace first. I hope thi somewhat answers your question

Hi Jacque thanks for your previous replies which are appreciated, I have a HotSpring tub and have issues with the PH always being high everything else is in the right range. but not the PH? also if there is to much salt in the system will that shut down the cell? one more thing can clean the cell? regards Nick
Ok yes too much salt will 100% shut the salt system down. Check with a test strip before reacting. If the dial is saying you are high but test strip is good you probably need a new cell. I have had a few people try to clean the cell. It helps a little but not very effective they are designed to be disposable. If your alkalinity is in line and the pH is the only thing that is climbing it is probably a risidual of the salt system. If everything is working correctly it will force the pH up and you will have to adjust every 2-3 weeks. If you pH is in line the chlorine will be more effective…. Make sure the alkalinity is in line first. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the support

Hello Jackie, I live in California and would like to buy a new hot tub for my family. I am a retired Orthopedic Massage therapist (25yrs) and need a tub that has jets that will really get into my muscles. Between Hot Springs or Caldera, which has better water force? Money isn't really a concern too much unless the lesser value has more water force. I don't really care about the color show stuff and music, but if the better pumps come with the higher end model, then so be it. All the best to you dear
I have sold both for years and they both are great. You are getting a lot more bang for your buck with the Hot Soring Highlife series. The moto massage is in matched for a therapeutic jet. I also love the soothing stream jet system. The no bypass filtration the tri-x filters give you the cleanest water possible the insulation’s unmatched. I would encourage the Hot Spring Highlife first and Caldera Utopia series second. They are both great tubs. What part of California?

Not at all, you will need some additional hardware unless you purchased with the hot tub additionally. If it is 2019 or newer it would be the Freshwater salt system, if it is olde it would be the Ace system. I would contact your purchasing dealer and see what your options are.

Could you please explain how iCare is different from HotSpring's FreshWater IQ system? How often do you need to buy a new iCare?
They are both great. I am impressed with the IQ. However you will have to buy a new hot tub to get the IQ. The Icare should last 5-7 years you do need to recalibrate it ever 6 months or so. I the IQ you have to buy a new sensor every year so operational cost would be very similar. The IQ does not have an app at this time but I think that might be a good thing.
what salt system would you recommend for a 1200swim spa? I want to convert from chlorine. I live in Colorado, and we have excellent water.

Hey Jacque, so my hot tub after refill is sitting at 9 oclock posistion on my salt system on my envoy - wont budge if i increase the output. my dealer said add some salt and it will. is that really the case? its perfect at 1750 right now - i felt system wasnt working right staying at 9 oclock he says it is because my system is balanced perfect but adding salt with make the gauge to go up if i run the test on the remote if i have elevated salt. just want to make sure thats correct info?
oh and they say salt system on envoy only has a 1 yr warranty. rest of the tub is 5 yr
So 9 is good. If you are at 1750 please do not add salt. That dial measure two things. It measures how much salt is in your water and hot much life is left in the cell. It will bounce around but if your are in the green zone you are good. DO NOT ADD MORE SALT!!

My FWSS cartridges only last 2 months instead of 4 as advertised. Do you find they don't last the 4 months

I own a Hot Springs Aria that I just purchased a month ago and on the fence about the salt system. Is there any truth to having a salt system in hot water sinario and creating chlorine. Ive heard its not good to breathe in the chlorine mist since the hot tub is always creating its own chlorine and not being good for your health. I would love to try this out but concerned for my family's health. Thanks in advance for shedding any light on this.
So the salt system is only on 8 hours a day. Yes you are creating chlorine but it’s completely natural vs the bottled chlorine it is safer then purchased chlorine this is a non issue.
I was on the fence about the salt system until I saw your video. Getting set to order a HotSpring Grandee. Reference the I_Care water monitor, if you have that do you still have to do any other testing of the water or does it take care of all testing?
You need to get it dialed in at the beginning but once you have all the settings good it’ll handle it all. It’s awesome. I have the grandee best hot tub I have ever owned!!

I’ll agree the first two weeks of getting it dialed in are important and somewhat scary but once it’s dialed in it’s amazing. I have helped several hot runners get dialed in and I’d be happy to help you as well if you get stuck
