I'm lucky enough to be able to visit stonehenge anytime. It's a truly amazing place. You would love it. The countryside is beautiful. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful country. I love this painting
Went to Stonehenge a few years ago... did not expect to be impressed... however was blown away amazed...truly unique and worthwhile... historic presentation was really well done ... so glad you are doing this painting ... brings back lovely memories with a unique twist
Thanks. I learned today what I am doing wrong on my splatters. You explained it beautifully. You are a great teacher. You explain the techniques so well. I have learned so much from watching you.
D Rose Make sure your paint isn't too wet. That can make that happen. Also, remember to hold your brush straight up and down, not angled toward the canvas. See if that helps!
Breathtaking, and as I watch, not nearly as scary to accomplish as it looked at first. I believe my oldest grandson is getting this for Christmas...he likes this kind of ethereal imagery.
je suis française et je n'arrive pas à tout comprendre de vos leçons. mais je regarde avec des yeux émerveillés toutes vos oeuvres. c'est absolument génial. je peinds aussi et vos tutos sont précieux. merci.
Think I'll try this in acrylic first, see how I go and then repeat for myself using oils as I prefer using them. Have done a number of your lessons using oils and they have all come out really great, even had a couple 'taken' by friends to 'display for me' on their walls. You are a great teacher. Thanks.
tried to find your facebook page but it's not coming up, says page has been removed. I did a painting of the pyramids with a sort of similar effect in the sky and glazed it using first a pink glaze and then an orange glaze over the sky with a yellow ochre glaze over the sand. It has some out beautifully but I can't work out how to upload it to show you the effect. It is all done in oils although the original canvas was first painted in black acrylic, easier than finding a black canvas locally.
Hi my friend. Congratulations on the wonderful video you shared. Very interesting, thanks for sharing, keep in touch. Wishing you much success with your work,💞., .❤❤.💓
Love it !Drove by Stonehenge on the way to hospital in the middle of the night to have my son almost 30 years ago seemed so surreal so quiet and magical and It made me less scared lovely painting .Think I might try and paint this and give it to my son thankyou so much I love your work.
OMG I went to STONEHENGE back in March 2016 - its only a two hour drive from where I live ! and you've painted it beautifully Thank You Jane for the lesson .... x
Hi Jane, I'd been waiting for your next tutorial and was pleasantly amazed and pleased that you did ' The Henge' as I live about 30 miles from it. You all over there , me all over here , it's like you done it just for me. You're the best teacher on my IPad. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be able to paint. Thank you ,thank you thank you xxxx
Jane, again another great and fun painting. This brings back memories when my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Stonehenge many years ago (1971). Back then they would allow you to actually walk between the stones. That day it was a very damp and grey day. It was kinda spooky because we were the only ones there. There were no other people (well, those that we could see anyway - oooooooo). I really like your painting. You demonstrated so may great techniques on the sky. the simple highlights on the stones really set it off. Those little bumps on the top of the vertical stones were carved to fit into hollowed holes on the bottom surface of the cross piece stones to lock them in place. Many centuries ago, this was the first full sized, heavy duty, Lego set. Great work, Jane.
Jeez o peet Jane, keep up your passion for educating us on painting and you will be able to afford to go one day and a youtube artist celebrity may allow them to let you walk among the stones, so you could paint them. Hey! Doesn't hurt to wish good on someone else, right? Time keeps ticking Lady. Go for it.
I know this video is 6 years old but wanted to say thank you. First time painting a nebula/galaxy and while mine didn't turn out as good as yours, mine isn't the focal piece either. I've been working on a 7 layer, laser cut MDF, picture of Goku (anime in case anyone isn't familiar) and wanted a nebula style background that Goku overlaps. There are sections over his shoulders and between his hair that show the background. Got to say, your method just clicked with me and for my piece it turned out wonderfully. Subtle yet the added detail I was looking for. Thank you very much for creating this step by step. Helped me a ton.
Yet another wonderful tutorial. You're a natural as a teacher. If you're not already a teacher by trade, you could be! Update: I've been having a lot of fun with this technique. Thanks again!
Excellent tutorial. I've been painting with acrylic for a few years now, but I've never managed to achieve the depth I was looking for in space/skyscapes. I have an abundance of mediums that I'm still learning to use correctly, and this painting of yours is a prime example of how vital a medium can be to achieving a particular look without slaving over your canvas for months on end. Your technique is highly versatile, and will work well for a number of projects I've been considering. Thank you for sharing your work.
You're so welcome, Kate! I'm glad I could help you out! I'll also be doing a video soon about different mediums. Hopefully that will be helpful as well :)
Good to see the progression to more complex work. FYI. when purchasing pre-manufactured canvas you will have a line when scrubbing on the edges of the canvas due to the frame being squared on the backside. To eliminate this find a local frame maker that can eliminate this problem by having a sharp edge on the very edges and rounding off. With three quarter round stock this problem is solved when stretching the canvas and gives work to a local framemaker that helps support a local business and keeps the money you spend at a more local level and enriches the local community at large. Beautiful piece:)
After a good few hours, lots of remodelling and a whole heap of resilience I have finished my version of this. Jane, you made it look easy and your instructions were brilliant but even so it was a challenge, especially as I have only been painting since Christmas. The way you presented it gave me the confidence to carry on and I am really pleased with the result. Thank you so much for caring enough to share your talent with us like this.
Hello Jane. You are great. I followed you and I tried to paint something similar to your stonehenge. Thank you very much, this is my first painting and thank you from my little country, Costa Rica
Jane, I just wanted to let you know that I have learned more about painting from watching you than I have learned from all the art classes I've ever taken. I love all your videos. Big fan! Thank you.
Gorgeous. My Hubby walked by and said...I see you did two paintings she has up...so you can do this one for me. LOL Yes the witch one and rainy window are both done! woohoo I just need to sign and photograph them. ....and then start the StoneHenge one. :D Biggest ART Hugs in the world to you Jane and thank you so much.
This was by far the hardest painting I have done with you yet. It came out amazing! I only Painted over it twice LOL you are the best teacher ever!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for sharing your invaluable expertise, Ms. Jane. Truthfully, I cannot even properly draw a basic stick figure. But I shall try to replicate this painting.
This was a great tutorial that my friend and I came across. We are regular PWAT attendees (a little over a year now) and have been wanting to branch out on our own a bit because their choices can be limiting and it gets expensive attending 2 classes a month at $35 a pop. I would definitely say this is more intermediate than beginners though, if I wasn't already experienced with some painting techniques I think I would have cried after a while lol, that being said your instruction was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed this. All in all our results did not come out nearly as beautiful as yours did but we were very happy with the finished products in the end. Will definitely be checking out more of your videos in the future!
You don't know how happy I am when I see ur videos. I appreciate your work. You are a star & my favorite artist and teacher. Wish you more & more success.
This painting makes me so happy I have been hoping someone would paint Stonehenge and everything that you’re throwing in with it is wonderful thank you so much
Hi my friend. Congratulations on the wonderful video you shared. Very interesting, thanks for sharing, keep in touch. Wishing you much success with your work,💞.❤,❤.
I did this one but I used black gesso instead of paint and the glaze fought me every inch of the way. Next time I do this one I will stick to paint! But my daughter loves her gift so it's all good. :D Thank you Jane for a wonderful lesson!
Absolutely gorgeous sky. Love every bit of it. I think I am gonna stop at the black n white part for one painting and make stone hench as another 😉. So for me it's two in one. Loved it. Didn't realise it was ab hr long video untill it finished.
Oops, I forgot to also say, I've been trying to paint a nebula on a box as a gift for several weeks but I haven't been happy with it at all. Now I know why and what to do about it! THANK YOU!
I have never seen this approach to space painting before but it is absolutely incredible! I was having trouble with it for a long time with the different way others have done it. you really made this easier, or maybe I just interpret your method better. I love your work, thank you!
I didn't have any brushes really suitable for scrubbing, and I was in Walmart, and of course I browsed the art aisle... They have a pack of 8 assorted stencil brushes that really look like they should scrub nicely for under $4. Just an FYI for everyone!
Oh man, I do too!!! Keep at it, Stacie. Scrubbing looks so easy, but just like anything, a little practice can really be helpful! Just grab a junk canvas and start scrubbing. Try it a thousand different ways with a thousand different brushes. You'll find the technique that works for you
BOING!!!!! Awesome boner (figuratively speaking) inducing painting!! So cool and calm also. My eldest son Michael has serious health issues and is disabled. He's a very highly skilled artists with pens, pencils etc, and he's also practicing with his new tattoo gun on oranges, and melons. I tried to get him interested in oil painting, which is my passion, besides music, when he was young but he wasn't interested. I finally convinced him to give it a shot, and I did help him, but very, very minimally, I simply guided the flow and speed of his hand as he began to use his brush strokes, and as soon as he got the feel I let go and he ended up creating an incredible landscape, which took me over a year to reach that level! I am obviously biased, but I do not lie, and I won't exaggerate, I didn't need to because the painting was truly that good and it was his first shot! When he realized it wasn't as difficult as we artists make it out to be, he dropped it! LOL!! He was around 10 years old when that happened. He's 31 now and is finally interested in painting, however he preferred the acrylics, which was absolutely fine by me!! For his first attempt I suggested he go with a black canvas, and so I gave him a Bob Ross giant 473 ml bottle of black gesso, and away he went!! So he started another landscape, this one had a fall setting sun scene which was just magical! I started searching around for acrylic artists using black canvases, and came across this site. We watched it together and were both amazed at the simplicity, and absolutely skilled beauty of the painting! This is a piece he can start off with, and work his way up. So thank you so much for actually posting an entire start to finish black canvas painting, I really, really appreciate it. So many others are posting five minutes of silent fast forward, and you have to pay for the full lesson, which I am absolutely fine with me. People should be paid for giving any lessons. This made your very generous full step by step lesson all the more incredible. So on behalf of my son Michael, and myself Jack - thank you very much! About to sub and like!! Which is ironic because I like subs! So...ya. Jack Canada
LOL, Jack!! Your message made me laugh. Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. I'm so excited that you were able to get your son into painting! It sounds like art is in his blood. I looooove painting on black canvas, so I'm sure there'll be more :) I hope you and Michael keep making art together ♥♥♥
lol! Hey Jane.. I am so forgetful! What was your number again? OH! BOOM!! I'm going through your catalog of videos and I am just amazed at the different styles and subject matter! I see impressionist, post impressionist, some realism, and surreal you have it all!! How greedy!! lol! There's pieces which remind me of Van Gough, Seurat, Dali, Monet, Matisse, Seurat, Morisot and on and on! Quite amazing! You know, you have pieces which even bring literary masters to mind. Mr. Crow, is awesome!!! And brings up images of Poe! When did you start, are you trained or self taught? Where are you from?? Sorry, if these are too personal, I am just so enthusiastic with your work! You just don't see anyone with this level of skill, or the body of styles which you've created on-line doing free instructional! It's just not done! And so if these questions are too personal, no problem just tell me to eff off!! And I will! LOL! You've got a mega fan here young lady!! Jack - is coming to you from a secret location somewhere in the wiles of the Great White North in his stately manor, a six floor, 6,000 square feet multi level igloo guaranteed to hold up to at least one polar bear attack...almost for sure...ahhh...absolutely a possibility...ok, ok, a very strong maybe...alright, if a polar bear comes round to your stately manor igloo you are screwed! Yes, I have issues! Canada
Seriously, you have no idea how jazzed I get when I get the notification that you have another vdo up for me to follow. It makes my day. I'm trying to get my students to follow you, as I've come up with a couple of fun projects using art to respond to literature. Thank you again.
Jane this is beautiful ,stunning and elegant at the same time. You went above and beyond thanks for sharing this !! your teaching is very clear and easy to follow too.
Jane, I love this tutorial!!! While it is nice to have the beautiful silhoette of the Stone Henge in the foreground...I miss seeing the spectacular work you did on the sky formations and colors. Speaking of those: Cloud, Nebula, Auroras...I felt so intensely drawn to them every step of the way as you created them with your brushes. As you explained in detail the ridges and "ribbon" effect of them turning, I saw it just as you did and even sometimes previous to your explanation. Your techniques are wonderful, your teaching style is very understandable, your talent is awesome!!! Thank you for sharing ths with us. Moving on to your personal style; I love the way you accentuate your beautiful eyes. The color in your hair on this video is so beautiful as well.
Just wanted to say thanks for this tutorial... I just started out with acrylics and have been trying to find a way to paint the "cloudy star" effect. I can't wait to get started. Thanks again!
I did this a few years back and stopped at the galaxy...I turned out so awesome. Now that I forgot how to paint galaxies I am going to do the Stonehenge part as well! I just need to wait for my black background paint to dry :-| Thanks for all you do, you're my favourite teacher!
Thank you!! Yes, you could use a very similar technique! I did a northern lights video last year, but a totally different technique. I'll probably do another one sometime soon :)
a friend recommended your channel for me to learn how to paint...I am so impressed...i have tried painting once and was kind of proud of the picture...i can't wait to start again....
WOW! What a beautiful painting Jane, thank you so much. The ribbons of colour are stunning. I learned my lesson doing stars, the first time I did some I imagined the brush I was whacking was my ex :) I ended up covered in paint ha ha ha, that was a lesson learned in more ways than one :) ! I am more gentle now. I must get back into painting, I'd love to end up with one similar to this. THANKS Jane xxx
lol!! Yeah, don't picture the ex unless you want stars on ALL of the things! Haha. You haven't been painting? Aaaw, friend, you gottat get back to it! I would love to see what you do with this
Hi jane your work is amazing I'm so looking forward to do some of your paintings , I'm a beginner but really enjoying watching and learning with you thankyou for your help. getting us through this lock down and putting a smile on everyone's day thanks again god bless ❤👍👩🎨janex
As always, Jane, you do such a phenomenal job of teaching. I really could have used someone like you when I was learning! This turned out very well. Reminds me of the Northern Lights painting. This technique is one that everyone will need, it's an extremely useful technique. I use a lot of glazing in some of my work. One of the pieces I have been working on recently is a diptych with, now, over 200 layers of glaze on each piece.
You have put a LOT of work into this as you do all of your paintings.. but I'm sitting here in awe as I watch you do this. This is just drop dead gorgeous Jane! Thanks so very much!
So beautiful! You are an amazing teacher and wonderful artist. Thanks for being so patient and kind. Looking forward to painting this soon. I love the loose painting series and follow you weekly. Thanks again.
When i saw the thumbnail i thought this was a NASA photo! Then i saw you paint it in acrylic. This is an Amazing canvas with such abstract realism. Subscribed. Now plucking courage as a beginner to attempt painting something like it. loved Easter Island Moai too. Really stunning art Jane. Thanks for showing it. keep it coming!
Very beautiful painting! I tried to follow this tutorial and it turned out amazing. I also learned so many new things. You are amanzing, Jane, thank you very much!
WOW! I discovered this video and you late last night. I watched part of it then and finished it this morning. I loved it and your teaching style. ( Not to mention the painting is beautiful! ) You have an easy way of telling us what to do , how and why. I just really enjoyed it. Now subscribed I will be watching more. I love the fluid and pour painting I started doing about 3 months ago but I still want to paint with my brushes! My son in law would love a painting like this. If I manage to paint one I'm happy with he may get one. Thanks so much for your videos.
Amazing !!! This video, I love it!! No glazing medium yet but I'm doing it. It's almost done and when I get the correct supplies I'm wanting to do this on a bigger canvas !!!! Another one that is tops Jane !!
currently in a painting slump.... can't figure out what to paint. my husband actually just said 2 days ago that I should try painting Stonehenge hahaha love the video 😊
This is just so stunning!! I'm excited and anxious to start introducing glazing into my paintings. 😊 I definitely feel more confident with your step by step instructions though. I think I'll be adding these mediums to my Christmas wish list.
I'm lucky enough to be able to visit stonehenge anytime. It's a truly amazing place. You would love it. The countryside is beautiful. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful country. I love this painting
Jane I love how u see the world!! It's perfect and so fun to do!! Keep making these beautiful fantasy skies and your creepy trees!! You rock it girl!
Thank you so, so much, sweet Eva
Went to Stonehenge a few years ago... did not expect to be impressed... however was blown away amazed...truly unique and worthwhile... historic presentation was really well done ... so glad you are doing this painting ... brings back lovely memories with a unique twist
Thank you, Val! I'm glad you like it, and I hope painting it helps preserve those lovely memories for you too
Thanks. I learned today what I am doing wrong on my splatters. You explained it beautifully. You are a great teacher. You explain the techniques so well. I have learned so much from watching you.
Thank you so much! I'm glad I could help. Splattering seems like it should be so easy, but it's really easy to struggle with, isn't it? lol.
Yes it is. I kept getting big blobs and the string effect not really what I wanted. Lol
What a lovely gift, Linda!! I hope you have a wonderful time painting it

tried to find your facebook page but it's not coming up, says page has been removed. Karen Blackburn facebook.com/PaintingWithJane/ Here you go :) Yes, I always just paint the canvas black first. Nothing wrong with that :)

Oh my gosh, thank you SO much, Kul!!! Being that it's a real place, I was a little nervous at first, lol.
P.s I'm Julie Hardwicke, George is my son .
Haha!! Thank you so much, Julie!! I'm so jealous. I dream of visiting "The Henge" some day. It's a places I've been fascinated with my whole life.
Jane, again another great and fun painting. This brings back memories when my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Stonehenge many years ago (1971). Thank you so much! Yes, I love teaching people. I think doing these videos pretty much makes me a full-time teacher by now, lol.

Thanks, Scott! Yes, stencil brushes work well. Just make sure you don't scrub the same spot before it's dry, because it really will remove the paint!
Hi, Jane, my son is painting... is his first time. :D Tks!! im happy!!
Oh, I'm so happy to hear this!!! I hope he has a wonderful time. Let me know how it goes :D
he did it very well.!! Tks for all your videos, you are amazing!! :D
Mayra López Aaaw, thank you. Tell him I said great job and keep it up!!
Beautiful painting,Jane. I am obsessed with stone henge.
Thank you so much, Rhiannon!! I have been since I was a kid too!!
I just can not do these clouds. you make it so effortless. This is a beautiful piece. I want to go where that sky is ;)

So...ya.

Thanks a lot for your information, your explanation so great . small things make a huge difference.
You're so welcome, Malaak. Thank you
this never grows old Jane, this is so fresh .tell hubby I said...wuz up big dawg?
This is very beautiful and slightly therapeutic to watch the transition from plain black canvas to a work of art. Thank you
Just wanted to say thanks for this tutorial... I just started out with acrylics and have been trying to find a way to paint the "cloudy star" effect. I can't wait to get started.
Thanks again!
You're so welcome! I'm glad I could help
I did this a few years back and stopped at the galaxy...I turned out so awesome. Now that I forgot how to paint galaxies I am going to do the Stonehenge part as well! I just need to wait for my black background paint to dry :-| Thanks for all you do, you're my favourite teacher!
Beautiful and great tutorial. I'm thinking that your process makes painting Northern Lights doable. Thx so much. MO
Thank you!! Yes, you could use a very similar technique! I did a northern lights video last year, but a totally different technique. I'll probably do another one sometime soon :)
WOW!!!...one of my favorites...BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you so much, Patricia!!!
a friend recommended your channel for me to learn how to paint...I am so impressed...i have tried painting once and was kind of proud of the picture...i can't wait to start again....
Thank you so much, Lorie! And please tell your friend I said thank you too. I'm excited for you to get painting again! 💛
I would love to see what you do with this
soon, I hope :) xx

Ah ha Stonehenge, one of the greatest mysteries ever. Great art piece and nice funky green hair too.
Hey, thanks, Kenny!! :D
First of all, love your hair. Not that my opinion matters a heck of a lot but you are an amazing artist.
Wow,best picture,best painter!
Aaaw, thank you
You have put a LOT of work into this as you do all of your paintings.. but I'm sitting here in awe as I watch you do this. This is just drop dead gorgeous Jane! Thanks so very much!

This is absolutely spectacular, one day I’d love to be even half as good as you. Thank you so much for sharing

Ah-ha! It's like I was reading his mind :D Paint slumps come and go. Don't let them get you down. We all go through them
haha well I can't wait to paint it. I try not to let my slumps get me. ☺
This is just so stunning!! I'm excited and anxious to start introducing glazing into my paintings. 😊 I definitely feel more confident with your step by step instructions though. I think I'll be adding these mediums to my Christmas wish list.
Yay, Beth! Thank you so much. Have fun with glazing. It's one of my favorite things :D
