This was great. I was wondering if you could do an episode on another Kirby boss, Whispy Woods. What makes Whispy interesting is that being a tree, he can't move and remains stationary during the entirety of (most) fights. Meaning you don't have to aim your Star spitting. And I think an interesting talking point would be on his attacks and how, somehow he gains even more every game, namely his basic attack, dropping apples. The attack has a neat mentality, where the game teaches you that food is good, and touching it heals you. But now touching it hurts you, the player understands they must inhale the apples and spit them back. And where the other bosses drop stars, Whispy drops apples. There's a lot of cool yet hidden things about this boss, and I wish you could talk about them. TL;DR Please make a Whispy Woods Video and keep up the incredible work!
Hey Prisma Can - I’m thinking of a doing a kind of mini series on these reoccurring bosses like kracko, whispy woods, meta knight, and maybe even other examples like Ridley! Thanks for checking this one out!
An explanation that fleshes out in a very organized format and keeping it very simple while also not losing focus on the the main subject you are try to state...have my respect and sub
I could maybe explain Dedede’s reason for his food stealing ways back in the first game. WaddleDee’s. A WaddleDees will work and serve anyone who gives them a home, a job to do, and food. Now look at Dedede. He gave the WaddleDees an entire castle to stay at, he uses them to run most of dreamland in construction, but allows them to make and go to schools and even drive(Robobot) Dedede is just...a giant clumsy doof
The simple fact that Kirby vs Dedede has been one of the few iconic video game rivalries to actually be settled has cemented it as my favorite 😊 Their "final battle" in the electric cage in SSU remains one of my favorite boss battles in the entire series, you can just FEEL how personal it is, both these two trying to prove they have what it takes to beat the other once and for all. And when it's all said and done, they shake hands and work together as allies. Beautiful.
Hey MCD! Smart choice - that's definitely a fun character to mess around with. I need to get better at him - I always misplace my up B and fall back down to the abyss. Thanks for checking this one out!
Gotta love the little continuity details on the Kirby series like how King Dedede learned to fly like Kirby to trying to be better than him on the air too because it's been stated in Smash Bros that between the first Dream Land game and Adventure/Knightmare in Dream Land he trained to be able to fly like Kirby and it's something that the player could notice because in the first game he couldn't fly but he can since Adventure. Another great detail that I like is how the Halberd is sunked on the same ocean from Kirby Super Star in Kirby Squeak Squad.
I can't believe I missed the upload, I guess I'll hit the bell too... *ding* Another instance of King Dedede is in Subspace Emissary where he unintentionally saves everyone by giving them a timer on their trophies to later revive them. He then, once being revived himself by Kirby, hugs him with the most adorable grin, before showing the main threat, Taboo. I'm surprised you didn't mention that other instance as Sakurai directed that one.
everyone else: listening to how king dedede develops a good boss battle system throughout years me: loving the music in the background because i played kirby epic yarn and is too addicted
This was a very nice analysis. I never really thought about it much (aside from the story, I love Dedede's progression through the series). Meta Knight is very similar. He fights with honor. Always providing Kirby a sword before the battle (except in Squeak Squad, or when he is controlled sometimes). You never actually defeat Meta Knight. If he loses his mask, he is in shame, and simply runs from battle. He wants to be seen as a great warrior, but no one would take him seriously if he was cute. Kirby himself isn't seen as a warrior in his own games. He is still seen as cute and lovable, or not very smart. Meta knight only fights Kirby when he finds it necessary. In Kirby's Adventure, he tested Kirby (supposedly) to see if he would be able to win against Nightmare... It was his first time meeting him after all. He doesn't appear again until Super Star... Where he grows tired of Dreamland's lazy lifestyle and wants to rule it to fix the problems he sees. However, Kirby comes and fights him, and he allows his crew to escape, and then has a completely fair dual with Kirby. I feel like this was also a test... He knew Kirby would oppose him, and he wanted to see how powerful he truly was. The next time he appears is in Squeak Squad... He acts completely uncharacteristic. Not trusting Kirby to fight off Dark Nebula. He jsut hides that it even exists and runs away with the chest... However, everyone acts weird in Squeak Squad... Kirby attacks Dedede for no reason. Dedede attacks Kirby for no reason... and of course, Meta Knight acts very stupidly. Ever since Meta Knight's Revenge, he trusts Kirby and fights alongside him when possible. He's still a lone wolf, but he knows that there are some things that only Kirby can do.
the thing about Squeak Squad is that Kirby is for once in the wrong... and Meta Knight knows that. Yes, he could have communicated better. But as it was going, Kirby was probably going to open Dark Nebula's chest himself and most likely get possessed. Meta Knight isn't fighting for honor now- he's fighting to stop Kirby from hurting himself by getting the chest. The game itself acknowledges that MK was right, and THAT is why (I think) Meta Knight doesn't give you a sword when you fight him.
That is exactly why Meta Knight doesn't give him a sword. he's still very uncharacteristic though. By that point he knew how powerful Kirby was and should've trusted him to fight him off. You are right about the possession thing, but stealing the chest with no communication whatsoever is completely stupid. I'm sure if Daroach knew there was a dark evil inside, he wouldn't have opened the chest, and seeing as not wanting anyone to open the chest is why Meta Knight stole it in the first place, it could've been a whole lot easier for him.
Nice vid, and a great overview of how Dedede went from Villain-to-Hero! Kind of surprised you didn't mention Kirby Battle Royale. That game kind of had Dedede fall back into a Villainous Role.
Hey TWG - I mainly wanted to focus on the mainline games and core titles here past some mentions to the other games like Epic Yarn or Mass Attack. Thanks for bringing this up though!Good to hear from you

Dedede's a good guy?! Wow, I never knew. I'm happy for Dedede and all but I think it's important for video game character to have well defined and classic antagonists. Sonic has Eggman, Mario has Bowser, Mega Man has Dr. Wily. The Kirby creators know this too, that's why they keep making Dedede possessed or something so he can fight Kirby. But it's not the same if he's not really evil. Sort of takes away from classic nature of the good guy fighting the bad guy and devalues Dedede as a antagonists. You're video makes it clear that he's not even that bad of a dude!
I love how game-wise Dedede has become friendlier after his Masked Dedede fight in Super Star Ultra in which he outright says something like "lets end this rivalry now"
I do like how Hal Laboratory is more consistent when it comes to King Dedede's character development. They put a lot more effort in having Kirby enteract with him and give us unique and creative ways to flesh out Kirby's fight against him.
Revenge of the king (masked dedede fight) is really the last time he fights Kirby as an enemy. Every game since then he’s either been an ally, or possessed when you fight him.

This Video Is A Great Christmas Gift For It Goes Over One My Favorite Sort Of Villains (he hasn’t really done anything evil in a while ok let’s just say anti hero) King Dee Dee Dee
One exception can be made for Dedede to keep being the final boss of games where the stakes are just competition and rivalry with Kirby, rather than part of some evil plan - like Kirby Battle Royale or Kirby Fighters 2. These are games where Dedede isn't a villain, but still gets to be the main antagonist in a competition.
Can you do a Video on "*(Astral Birth) Void" since it has a TON of Interesting Stuff and even the Unlock Ties into the Boss' Design. Let me know if you're Planning to do that! :3
5:27 okay this is actually my #1 favorite thing about kirby. it has a kind of positive outlook on people. if you have had an argument with someone on the internet, just remember, that other person is probably just like Dedede. misguided. that, or YOU are Dedede. its hard to tell.
I absolutely love how The King has gone from the Bowser of the franchise to one of Kirby's most recurring allies. However at the same time I hope he hasn't lost all of his boss status, and may again some day challenge Kirby of his own volition...
He may not be a major antagonist, but he's still da king! Which is why I really appreciate how they handle his redemption and growth into more of a frenemy, while still being the same king we all know and love.
On top of being fun to fight, one thing I'll give Dedede credit for is that he never fights the exact same way twice. He always uses some new move or item, when he's not possessed that is
Including spin-offs, my guess was eight. There were seven. So close, but yet so far... I wonder if Dedede has something intrinsic about him that makes him easier to possess. After all, Dark Matter chose him as a vessel three times, and the Jamba Heart also targeted him. It really makes one think. And I also love how the Masked Dedede fight has had an effect on all canon since. He said that that fight would settle things between them, and he’s never been antagonistic to Kirby since. Every fight has been due to possession or brainwashing.
Dedede formula: swing your hammer a couple times at the ground, chase the enemy by floating like a giant blue balloon of destruction, if all else fails....attempt cannibalism
revenge of the king is actually a retelling of the extra mode from dreamland 1. a much harder version of the main game (or spring breeze, itself a remake of dreamland 1) all with the intent on getting revenge on you, by upgrading both himself and his entire army. with spring breeze and revenge of the king having the entirety of super stars contents sandwiched between them... you could say super star ultra takes place before adventure in terms of a timeline.
Hey another great vid Skip. I couldn’t agree more about Dedede being a great guy. Plus that masked dedede theme too. You have a good holiday season alright?
Hey Mr. Brightside! Thanks for checking this one out. Definitely hoping for a Dedede spin-off at some point, I think that would be a blast. Have a great holiday!
This is also a reason why I love the EX bosses in kirby games. They take the original attacks, and tweak them so that they are harder. But, HAL does it in a way that still makes the bosses feel new instead of just boring.
Big ol' Dedede is my Favorite character in gaming. Period. At this stage (when conscious) hes done more good then bad (or at least attempted to) and whenever hes possessed, he makes up for whatever he was forced to do even if it wasn't his fault. Ya know what, Taranza wasn't far off mistaking the royal goofball as Dreamlands hero
I’ll give that one to you, Alexander! Adding up the main games, spin off titles, and the one where he’s possessed multiple times - the number comes to about there. Nice work! Thanks for checking this one out!
If you look at his description in the guest star mode in Kirby star allies, your point is proven as it talks about Dedede wanting redededemtion, not to mention the Dedede tour in triple deluxe.
I consider there are three periods in Kirby/Dedede's relationship. They started off as ENNEMIES, but his action at the Fountain of Dreams opened the door for the guy not being a total villain. After Kirby saves him twice from being possessed by Dark Matter, he begrudgingly allies himself to Kirby in 64, mostly out of pride apparently. From that point on, they are RIVALS with a tense relationship, sometimes fighting but never without a reason. Finally, when Dedede talks about settling their grudge, he means it. Once defeated in Revenge of the King, he abandons their rivalry, and become FRIENDS with Kirby. He wholeheartedly accompanies him in adventures, and whenever they fight, he is invariably controlled or possessed.

@@skipthetutorial A miniseries huh?
There could be one for soul bosses as well.

I could maybe explain Dedede’s reason for his food stealing ways back in the first game.
WaddleDee’s. A WaddleDees will work and serve anyone who gives them a home, a job to do, and food. Now look at Dedede. He gave the WaddleDees an entire castle to stay at, he uses them to run most of dreamland in construction, but allows them to make and go to schools and even drive(Robobot)
Dedede is just...a giant clumsy doof
The simple fact that Kirby vs Dedede has been one of the few iconic video game rivalries to actually be settled has cemented it as my favorite 😊 Their "final battle" in the electric cage in SSU remains one of my favorite boss battles in the entire series, you can just FEEL how personal it is, both these two trying to prove they have what it takes to beat the other once and for all. And when it's all said and done, they shake hands and work together as allies.
Beautiful.
Dedede main for life
Hey MCD! Smart choice - that's definitely a fun character to mess around with. I need to get better at him - I always misplace my up B and fall back down to the abyss.
Thanks for checking this one out!
@Skip the Tutorial, Always happy to see some quality content from a quality channel.
OMG the nostalgia from listening to that music makes me want to play Squeak Squad and Epic Yarn again. Both of which I still have.
Brings back childhood memories man
This was such a nostalgic episode to work on - the Kirby series is such a nostalgia trip, I love it.
Thanks for checking this one out, Asta!
You'd be surprised how few people actually recognize the character development that took place with Dedede. Glad to see someone finally talk about it
I can't believe I missed the upload, I guess I'll hit the bell too... *ding*
Another instance of King Dedede is in Subspace Emissary where he unintentionally saves everyone by giving them a timer on their trophies to later revive them. He then, once being revived himself by Kirby, hugs him with the most adorable grin, before showing the main threat, Taboo. I'm surprised you didn't mention that other instance as Sakurai directed that one.
His character isn't the only thing that's changed over time. The music from some of his other fights are great. The Masked DeDeDe theme is god tier.
everyone else: listening to how king dedede develops a good boss battle system throughout years
me: loving the music in the background because i played kirby epic yarn and is too addicted
@@DaNintendude yeah I don't think communication is Meta's strong side

Nice vid, and a great overview of how Dedede went from Villain-to-Hero!
Kind of surprised you didn't mention Kirby Battle Royale. That game kind of had Dedede fall back into a Villainous Role.
Hey TWG - I mainly wanted to focus on the mainline games and core titles here past some mentions to the other games like Epic Yarn or Mass Attack.
Thanks for bringing this up though!Good to hear from you
@@skipthetutorial Heh, that's fair!
Battle Royale almost seems more like it's a reminder that Dedede was once a villain long ago, even tho it's plot is basically "Have Kirby lose in my tournament and fail to win the big prize" than anything.
Nice Boss/character analyse of Dedede. I do like Dedede's progression of the series from Kirby's biggest rival to Kirby's biggest ally.
Thanks for checking this one out, MKXB!
Dedede is definitely one of the best bosses in gaming, and his progression plays a huge part into that in my mind
Its cool that you dive into kirby. The games have some of the best bosses in video game history.

We need a King Dedede Game, or at least a Kirby game that doesn't star Kirby. Kirby is missing!
Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe.
More Nintendo spin off games need to happen. Captain toad and Luigi’s Mansion really have me chomping at the bit for similar genre breaks in the Kirby franchise.
Thanks for checking this one out, 3.14 Dragon!
I love how game-wise Dedede has become friendlier after his Masked Dedede fight in Super Star Ultra in which he outright says something like "lets end this rivalry now"
I liked inmediately before watching the video for the tittle alone. Truer words have never been spoken.
The King is a prophet. I love this guy so much haha

I do like how Hal Laboratory is more consistent when it comes to King Dedede's character development. They put a lot more effort in having Kirby enteract with him and give us unique and creative ways to flesh out Kirby's fight against him.
A King Dedede video is the holiday gift because he is just that wonderful and perfect.
He’s such a great character - one of the all times for video game bosses!

Revenge of the king (masked dedede fight) is really the last time he fights Kirby as an enemy. Every game since then he’s either been an ally, or possessed when you fight him.
I absolutely love the super ripped, muscleman Dedede. It's such an awesome design: equal parts amusing and badass.

Merry Christmas, ImSoR! Dedede is a legend - always happy to talk about him.
Thanks for checking this one out!
You know something? If there even a new series about Kirby, then hands down want to see Dedede development as character.
Can you do a Video on "*(Astral Birth) Void" since it has a TON of Interesting Stuff and even the Unlock Ties into the Boss' Design.

Fun Fact: Dedede trained his body to fly like kirby after being defeated by in Kirby's Dreamland.
He always uses some new move or item, when he's not possessed that is
I need a monster to clobber dat DERE subscribe button!
That's what we do best at s.t.t!
You'd better get it with an hour-back guarantee!
You only started this channel 5 months ago and you are already so far

Hey Mr. Brightside! Thanks for checking this one out.
Definitely hoping for a Dedede spin-off at some point, I think that would be a blast.

This is also a reason why I love the EX bosses in kirby games. They take the original attacks, and tweak them so that they are harder. But, HAL does it in a way that still makes the bosses feel new instead of just boring.
I’d love to examine that topic down the road in more detail - thanks for bringing it up, BDee3!

If you look at his description in the guest star mode in Kirby star allies, your point is proven as it talks about Dedede wanting redededemtion, not to mention the Dedede tour in triple deluxe.
What a triumph is THAT?!
“Dedede, you need an exorcist.”
Now HAL just needs to make him his own platformer where HE'S the hero.
