- The Chilcotin has been full of so many beautiful surprises. Glorious views, untold history, pristine lakes and rivers, and a surprising amount of abandoned places. Getting to explore the alpine around Perkins Peak was an amazing experience, but I wasn't going to leave without getting myself up to the summit. This was a big hike, but it is worth every single step when you get to see the views from the top. In fact, the views are spectacular the entire way up, but from the top you can even see Mt. Waddington, the highest point in British Columbia. It was an exciting moment for me to finally make my way to the peak and sign my name in the book, but after five days in the alpine, I was ready to make my way back down.
A couple of years ago, I was told about a beautiful off grid log home, in a very remote location, that shortly after completion had been abandoned. The property still remains in the owners name, but it has not seen a visitor in nearly twenty years. The home was built almost to completion when the owner had passed away, and for whatever reason the family has not shown any interest in finishing the build. This is an absolutely beautiful home, in a world class location, but it is quickly becoming reclaimed by mother nature. I hope that the family will come and enjoy this beautiful property and bring the house back to its rightful glory.

Very profound message at 24:03 if anybody is wondering: "It is unwise to spend too much but even worse to spend to little. If you spend too much you lose some money and that is all. If you, however, spend to little you sometimes lose everything, because the aquired item is unable to serve its intended purpose. The laws of economics forbid to acquire a high value whilst spending little money. If you choose the cheapest option you have to add the risks you are taking onto the price. And if you are willing to do that, then you have enough money to just pay for something better." This hits a little close to home since we germans really do value good quality tools, so it makes sense the gentleman who built these structures would agree.
Buy once cry once.
Wouldn't want your bike stolen but it'd be funny as to see a bear pedalling furiously down the hill. . . 😄
It's always a good day when bear is going away from me.
…spare me the grizzly details 😂
Don’t know many circus bears in the wild.
@@blueman5924 I can't bear this anymore 😁

Loved this adventure, as a 61 year young retiree (with mobility issues for now), I truly am living vicariously through you and your beautiful country. If I never make it to Canada from my California desert (29 Palms), I can truly say, my spirit has been there, through Destination Adventure! Thank you 🙋🏽♀️💁🏽♀️😊
66 years young. I am home bound. I once exsplored but can't now. Thank you for taking me with you.
You would be surprised at those of us who watch these videos and live through the ones able. Many I can promise you that.blessings. ❤
I lived and worked on the base at 29 Palms for five years. High Desert living. The locals hated going down the hill for anything.
@@erikhall3839 we go to the low desert at least twice a month, after 23 years here, it can get to be a boring drive, but lots to do down there.
That washing machine looks exactly like the one we had when we lived up north. It doesn't dry the clothes. You wash on one side and transfer the clothes to the other side to spin them out. Then we dried them on a clothes line.
What a shame that such a beautiful place and so much effort and hard work has gone into it and now will just rot away.
as kids we used to get up early to watch Saturday morning cartoons, in my 40s now i get up early to watch the adventure........... god i miss BC
So refreshing to see abandoned places that haven't been tagged & have all of the windows busted out.
Remoteness and bears keep the vandals away 😅

In California that would have been destroyed with graffiti and scavenging, then probably burned from cooking drugs.
The thugs are too lazy to try roughing it in the woods! lol
I would say that this is TH-cam at its best but this film is more than that - Justin, you are humanity at its best. This channel captures everything we're put on this planet for: exploring, creating, befriending, inviting. You are such an inspiration and life-giver to all of us who are doing our own best thing right where we are: building homes, raising kids, working office jobs, making things happen in our own local communities. But our souls are out there with you, chasing the next horizon. Thank you for capturing everything and bringing us along for the ride.
Thanks so much for such a nice comment. This was truly a pleasure to read, thank you.
Well said!
What a perfect comment ❤
Even with money as no object, I’m forever amazed at random housing built in the middle of nowhere.
The most peace I’ve ever had experienced is traveling alone. You really get to know yourself.
Having lived in the Chilcotin for a number of years I appreciate you not disclosing certain locations. Thanks for the videos!
You just did!
@@sandralnwebster3204 the Chilcotin is huge. Nobody is gonna be able to find these places based on knowing they’re in the Chilcotin

This was great! I am pretty will limited in travel now. I just turned 92 and it was wonderful to see more of our beautiful world. Keep on traveling ! I feel young again. I live here in Yuma, AZ. and the temp. outside is now 113 F. You help cool me down.

I can't believe the family would just let that beautiful cabin rot away. So sad but beautiful, a person's hard work being taken back by nature.
If the family is still in Europe, I can understand why no one wants to take it over. Long way to travel just for work.
@StephenShawCanada they should sell it then, so someone else can, if anyone was willing. But if nothing happens with it, Mother Nature will take it back.
Nature takes everything back in the end. Enjoy the ride.
It could be he violated the trapline/Govt contract & lost the property.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Your ability to capture the beauty and the feeling of your locations is unmatched. Thank you for what you do for all of us on the other side of the camera.
Thank you very much for the nice comment.
A beautiful property. My theory is one owner and friends and builders residing on property, until the owner got sick or passed away, leaving the others no choice but to vacate. Sad to see such neglect of a great property. P.S. It's great to see you leaving everything better than you found it by securing the doors from critter access and mother nature. Thank you for sharing.
Twin tub washing machine is what you found. Very common in Australia in the mid 1900s. One side does the wash then you move the clothes to the other tub to perform the spin cycle.
Great videos btw, we've been following for a couple years now!
Some of these cabins are freaking amazing....it is a shame no one will enjoy them anymore....BC never ceases to surprise me....awesome Justin😊
Amazing video. Born and raised in BC and living in the Cariboo I am always intrigued by the history and love seeing old homesteads still standing. These buildings were in great shape. People commenting on how the family could let this place rot away , it is probably because being back in Germany they have no idea what this man built , never traveling to see it and to them it was just a pipe dream of the family member. I thought your other video a few weeks ago exploring that old mine site and air strip was the best, now this tops that one, at least to me. Thanks to you we can all appreciate things none of us will ever see and off the beaten path, thanks again Dustin . 👍👍
Yes nice video but I am not sure about the pipe dream idea. Descendants who inherit usually want to get the property to use it or sell it to get money from it. Just to let a property sit without using it could be because the descendants don't have the energy/health to deal with it or maybe it was not mentioned in the will? Or if the descendants are very wealthy themselves so they can't be bothered to deal with a small cabin. Or the property had to be vacated by law (for it being to big e.g.) as someone mentioned in the comments for example. I think we can just guess but reality could be different from what we guess ;)
@@mradventurer8104 Well not many people would even consider to venture 8000 kms to see a remote property across the planet. Even though they might have inherited it, does not mean it has value to them. This was one mans vision and dream to build this home site for his DREAMS, and as we know not all or even many want the same things we want. The inconvenience of globe trotting for many is out of the question and to go remote off grid is even less of a possibility . Living here in BC I have never once heard of land having to be vacated by any laws unless there was a forest fire or s chemical hazard , but that is not the case here. Either way it is a shame to see this waste away.
The washer is a spin washer. You wash on the left side with the agitator and rinse with the right side, then spin out the excess water. They use little water and work great.
Thanks for sharing your adventures. I enjoy them very much.
This has been a visual treat, as alluring as all get out in visiting the tourist cabins, grand home ,and out buildings. I'm supposed to be cutting brush today, but fell upon your adventures. I could 't budge out my chair. The music is well selected too.
I was married to a german. They love American cowboys and horses. They are handy at building and are perfectionists.
Some great finds Dustin. It’s amazing how long a log cabin will last with no upkeep! Hopefully someone can purchase it, use and take care of it.
Another great video Dustin! The mountain intro was spectacular. I translated the german poster hanging on the wall and this is the translation:
It is unwise to pay too much, but it is even worse to pay too little. If you overpay, you lose some money, that's all. On the other hand, if you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the item you bought cannot perform its intended task. The law of economics forbids getting a lot of value for little money. If you accept the lowest bidder, you must add something for the risk you run. And when you do that, you'll have enough money to pay for something better.
You have been wanting to check this one off the list for a couple years you said. The universe has a funny way of making sure you end up in the right place at the right time.
As always, thank you for taking us along on another beautiful adventure :)
The Chilcotin is very familiar country to me. My family traveled to B.C. every year for at least two weeks. I was born in October of 1950 and my first trip to B.C. was July 1st, 1951. Ive probably seen more of B.C. from sitting on a bale of hay in the back of an old 1952 Ford F-1 pickup than most Canadians ever have. We bought 50 acres at Riske Creek in 1968 and I my first log home in July of 1969 when I was 19. I've been designing and building handcrafted log homes for over 50 years and it all started right there in the Chilcotin. Great memories. Now that I'm living in Central Sweden I may never get back there. The memories will stay with me for many more years. Thanks for showing us this on video. Good Stuff!
Great Video as always...
When you Showed that cut cable on that Device on the ridge, The Tech in Me was thinking, " Wonder what the look on the faces of the monitoring station would look like if he put all the wires back together and it worked....." LOL
"Hey John, you know that system that was destroyed in that storm 5 years ago?"
"The one on XXXX Ridge?"
"Ya"
"What About it?"
"It's Broadcasting again........"
"WTF??????"
Hahahahahab. Man I loved this comment. This was a good laugh, thank you. I have no idea how weather is measured, but I can just picture the moment you describe. Hahaha
It's like your in a different planet up there so beautiful 👍
Perhaps others have already translated, but the German quote on the wall is from John Ruskin: "It is unwise to pay too much, but it is even worse to pay too little. If you pay too much you will lose some money, that's all. On the other hand, if you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the item you bought cannot do its intended job. The law of economics prohibits getting a lot of value for little money: if you accept the lowest offer, you have to add something for the risk you take. And if you do that, you'll have enough money to pay for something better."
You can just imagine all the work that went into building these cabins, in a remote location where every manufactured item and tool had to be packed in. All that hard work but no-one to carry on when the initiator was no-longer able to carry on with the project. Nature pretty quickly reclaims what we mere mortals attempt construct. Log cabins always look nice, but never seem capable of keeping out the rodents...or the Water which eventually consume the structure.
The futility of our built environment, without constent attention to maintenance.
Good vid, thanks for keeping the location private.
Another gorgeous adventure, mountains are my go to. Drone footage was awesome, I wish I could get mine not so shakey, but I am using a $150 one. Thank you Dustin for sharing another awesome day! This is becoming my Saturday morning tradition with a cup of coffee.
Sitting back in my recliner watching you climb to the summit. Looking at the fantastic drone shots. By the time you reached the top, my legs were so tired I was barely able to watch you get on your bike and ride down. I’m not sure how many more of these tiring expeditions my body can handle. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to grab a cup of coffee.
your comment made me smile….thank you!✌🏼
Love the respect you have for other peoples property and that you do what you can to help preserve it. Yet another fantastic video, thanks for the tour and I didn't get a single mozzie or black fly bite!
The locations are spectacular....All of it BC...how many will ever truly see it
Wow, loved that cabin! Hope the family who owns it might renew their interest in it after seeing it in this video. Such love had to have gone into the build.
What a stunning property, I would buy it in a heartbeat! I've always dreamed of a place like this, remote, off grid, surrounded by wilderness. Thanks for taking the trip to show it to us. :D
Finally we get to hear it❤😂😂. Don't get stolen. you should put on a t-shirt, unbelievable stuff in the chilcotin. We can't wait to relocate...the day is coming soon. Love your work man
21:07 me when you opened that fridge 😱 it’s perfect
Dustin you are an amazing film maker. We can feel your heart and soul in every video. The soundtracks, narration and stunning visuals - perfection!
Thank you so much.
Your cinematography is always beautiful. I'm curious how many times you are traveling and have to turn around and go back so you can set up one of your awesome drone shots?
Also the saying on the wall was German. Translated: It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.
-John Ruskin

Beautiful views from the peak of that mountain, it looked like it was a dead volcano too. Thanks Dustin. Be safe out there!
Thanks for taking us along once more to see places we might otherwise not. Once more the drone footage is breath taking. Indeed there's so much to see in this province where we live. Safe travels until next time.
I hope that because of this video someone that knows somebody that knows somebody will end up selling this and it will become beautiful again.

As always, that scenery is absolutely breathtaking! Imagine being so high you can actually almost touch the clouds! It's so sad to see those awesome cabins deteriorating like that. Seeing what 24 years of abandonment can do is just sad. 😢 But it sure makes for a quiet, secluded and pretty spot.
Hey Dustin,
I thank you for your adventures. I have ptsd and your videos give me peace. Your music and scenery help me so much of God's beauty.
I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to live in any one of those homes out there!
Thank you Dustin. Your photography is just remarkable. Loving your new adventures. It's so nice to see different areas of BC. I wonder if the German gentleman lived in the smaller cabin while he was building the larger unfinished one?? Such a lovely property. Blessings and safe journeys.
Thank you Dustin, such beautiful scenery and I love the little discoveries along your travels, as usual stay safe and stay adventurous.
That was amazing what a quality build cabin. Too bad that first one was barred shut. Way she goes.
Those burled columns! Wow. An unrealized dream? Sad.
Ive got to admit for being above the tree line that place is soooo beautiful.
I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Oklahoma for views like what you're getting! I appreciate these videos because I don't get out and explore as much as I would like to these days due to my job. Hope you're enjoying your adventures as much as we are!
Truly enjoy your taking us along on your adventures. Never lose your sense of wanting to explore! The area in the first cabin’s yard that had rails could have been a sawmill. They sure needed a way to cut all of the trees for lumber. Love your work! Please be safe………watch out for critters!!🤗
The Pacific Northwest hope you like the policies and politics of these shit hole states.
Absolutely loved this video. Since I no longer can hike nor just go looking for adventure on foot or bike, due to arthritis, you have helped me continue looking at great places and spaces. Thanks!
That washer spinner is exactly like our old one. They worked great. What a shame about that place left to rot. It could be a paradise off grid community.
What a spectacular view from the mountain. Thank you again for this wonderful adventure ❤
BC looks so beautiful and rugged, love these travels!
Every day is an adventure. Wherever you may be.
Beautiful truck Justin. Holding up well l presume. Engine sounds great. Nice work. Taking you where you would not normally go wirh your previous rig. That was a hotel on wheels and more costly to repair. Truck is probably more cost effective in the long run. By the looks of it in these last two videos it handles exceptionally well on steep grades.
Spectacular drone shots taking in areas where most of us would not travel too. A little lonely at the top of the ridge but a very rewarding view. Nice cabins located in a peaceful place. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.
That was an amazing adventure! Thanks for taking us along. 😊
My dad and Uncle spent a summer in the 70s building a log cabin home in Burns Lake where my uncle subsequently lived for ~20 years. My uncle built another one which he moved into when I was younger and I loved visiting it (and it was quite luxurious two stories!). ❤❤❤
Gotta watch this later with sound! Looks quite similar now that I’m deep into this.
Javeing been vacant some 24 years 🏠 Someone could clean in these house. At minimum sweep and, or vacuum

Smart move on not giving away the location of those log cabins! That was humbling, sad that it is falling in despair! Thank you for taking us along!
WOW back in the day that would have beautiful, I can't understand why someone would walk away from a home that awesome. Here in Australia those washing machines were called twin tube. One side did the washing and the other side did your rinse spin cycle. I had one when I first moved out of home into my own flat.

Very nice find, I'm amazed and pleased to see that the vandals haven't been through there. Must be reasonably remote and off the beaten path.
And why Dustin doesn't want to reveal its location; he knows what would happen if he did.
As always, this was a terrific and beautiful cinematic adventure. I like that you don't disclose the locations for many of your adventures, so that they stay undamaged by humans. Nature, and it's critters, will do their things, but humans won't deface them as nature is reclaiming them. Thanks for the fun!
nothing like finding a cabin in the woods 🪵🏚
So majestic, and the vast size of it all makes us see, just how small we all are in the world.
Another great video, there should be a way to find more history of the big cabin. If it has a good roof it should last a long time.
As always love your content. Wife and I are hoping to spend a week on Vancouver island next year! Any way my wife’s a geologist and said it’s high odds due to the glacier keeping it separate from the “native” rocks that that was a meteorite.
Was going to say the same thing, patterning on the surface and the oxidation would suggest it a meteorite. Possible diamond in the ruff! Beautiful footage, thanks for sharing.
Dustin, thank you for this Really Honest presentation of the world beyond the last fence.
I grew up in the Foothills of the Cabinet Range of the Rockies, and this video reminds me of the bygone era I was able to have a glimpse of as a child. I'm in my 60's now, I can say I'm proud of your respect for the Wild, the once tamed, and especially your obvious respectful treatment of things that are not yours - even if they belong to no one.
Thank You for a trip back in time on a Sunday Morning.

Thanks so much Dustin, the mountain was amazing and seeing the cabins abandoned just makes you wonder what went on. Incredible country and mysteries we have, thanks for showing them too us.
Excellent video quality. Thank you for taking your viewers on such nice journeys. Tons of mouse/rat poop in these buildings: it transmits several serious viral diseases, not only by direct contact but also by inhalation of dust particles emanating from the dried poop through your respiratory tract. One notorious example of several is the Hanta virus, gives several weeks of fever with flu like symptoms and leaves patients often with life long joint pain that turns into arthritis. Scientists also often find yersenia pestis in mouse poop.
