      Build was great to watch. Couple of questions. Why not any insulation between your logs? Why no insulation in cabin? Why not burn underside of deck/porch since insects and dampness collect there? The end result was amazing. I hope it lasts!!

    I live in the north of Scotland and my home is a log cabin made from Douglas fir. It’s like the three pieces screwed and glued at the start of this video but it’s made by carved long logs. It went together like Lego. We built in 2004 and it still looks lovely. The log walls are gorgeous inside. They’re sprayed with a clear fireproofing agent that will let naked flame burn for 2 hours without damaging the wood….we had to get that in order to get mortgage and insurance.

    I have watched something like 100 videos of off-grid cabin builds, from start to finish, and I think this one ranks as my favorite of all!!! I absolutely love your "logs." Very reminiscent of the system of locking logs in Finland, with the exception of your logs being a composite of 3 boards, rather than 1 log. This really inspires me to try to do this myself. May you be blessed with years of tranquil moments in your wonderful cabin.

      Dont give up! Best of luck and I just turned 65 last week. Im also itching to get a mountain lot and similar build. I did it before at 30 years old, but my mistake was building it on a friend’s land. They said I could stay ten years, but after seeing how beautifully it was built, gave me three months to move on. … so they could move in. Live and learn. I just sold our ocean cruising sailboat Dec 31st, and hope to buy land, build cabin, and move in before Dec 31st this year. You know, his small timbers will save our backs.

      @@roberttaylor8261 yeah I was thinking about the electrical, you could leave a gap in the middle 2x8 for wiring when your building it though but hard to go back and do for sure. You have crafted a beautiful cabin, very talented young man. We just moved into ours and built on a bedroom and bathroom. It is 20x36 now and our retirement home. The first build was 20x20 total cost 8,600. then when building supplies were at the highest the 20x16 cost 21,000. Unfortunately we had sold the farm and had no choice. We lived in the cabin with no running water for 5 months. At 73 and 75 we saw it as an adventure. Enjoy your cabin for many years to come

      @livingcheap1625 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am glad to see others can show that necessity can overcome many adversities. I turn 75 in a few months and plan on building and moving to a log structure as I sold my house, and thought apartment living would see me out. But, with rent eating up a good portion of my modest income, and other expenses reducing my cash reserves from the sale of my house, I can see I need to find a cheaper place to live. A 20 x 24 log cabin is in my plans, and it will be built using this man's fantastic design as I can't afford to have someone build me one. This is a great alternative and, although I am sure I will have many, many aches and pains along the way and all my old injuries will be screaming at me to quit, I will just look forward to sitting on my front porch in the woods, or in front of a cozy wood fire on a cold winter night and thank God he gave me the strength to finish. I lived for over a year with a composting toilet, and hauling water. Seeing that others in my age group have done it will inspire me. Thank you.

    What an awesome build and a great way to do it. I've never seen a cabin built like this... Very well thought out. Please consider two 45 deg. cross braces, attached near the peak, on the outside of your chimney. The cabin and country look beautiful. You should be proud of this.

    I have seen several cabin build videos, I must say that this is quite different than ANYTHING I've seen before. Why I've never seen this method before is beyond me too.
    This method is simple and straight forward, seals, between members well, is about 6 inches thick and assembly is also simple and straight forward.
    Your floor plan is similar to one I found in an old book called Your Cabin in the Woods by a man named Conrad Meineke, in 1946. He showed several building methods. Conrad would be quite proud of you and your ingenuity. I still pull out that book from time to time and read it again. I first found and read this book in 1976.
    Great job. ;-)

    Do not know why I loved watching this so much other than I love cabins, like watching someone work when they know what they are doing and just how brave you were to burn the wood like that! I am so impressed. This cost less than my having a shed built and turning into my home. No money here so it took 6 years and I still have things I need or want to do. Thanks for sharing this.

    That's excellent ,
    I watched it several times .
    I wish these and other videos as well as off the grid living came about before I had gotten to old to do these things myself .
    And had the money to do it .
    The great reset has taken its toll on me in a hard way , way to hard .
    I now live in an RV and in CA I have a very hard time keeping that .
    But your a genius with these things and I enjoy watching .
