    I loved looking in the booklet from *The Police Live* and seeing *2* Taurus synths at Sting’s feet in one of the pictures. I later learned that during the 1979 tour, he attached one of them to his Minimoog and triggered a tone with long attack, Osc. 2 tuned to a fifth and high filter resonance.

    I remember watching my friends band, covering a Rush song. The sound guy had them too loud in the mix. They rattled my teeth! That inspired me to by my own. Back in the day I bought them for $600.00 dollars Canadian. And I would never sell them. The sound is so identifiable, you know when you hear them. Great video as always.

    So many great tracks feature the mighty Taurus. Absolute tooth rattling bass on those things and it raises the heart rate when I hear it. A modern prog band who use it well is Big Big Train. Their bass player (and composer of many of their tracks) features the modern day equivalent of the pedals plus Moog bass synth in many of their tracks.

    I think even Judas Priest might have used it in their song "Turbo Lover", from the second verse you can hear a big fat low synth note kicking in, and I think it might be the Taurus

      Ian Hill had a Taurus 3 in his rig rundown and said something about that.

  • @hubbsllc
    @hubbsllc 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It hasn't been until fairly recently have I realized just how special the Taurus is. Sure, you can take most any subtractive synthesizer, hardware or software, and make low notes but there had to have been some aesthetic judgements made with the Taurus about just what waveform the oscillators make, their relative levels, and the coloration of the filter that makes these things *crush you* once you've got them properly amplified.

    I've got a Taurus 3 and it pumps out low end like nothing else. Lots of other analogs get clicky or farty that low.
    The downside is that programming it is tedious, and awkward being down on the floor.
    I used to sprawl over a footstool because sitting in front of it is too low, and leaning over you get light headed after 15-20 minutes.
    And my knees, well they don't like being a load bearing structure that way.

  • @cesarcesar5573
    @cesarcesar5573 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've allways asking why the progressive bass players were playing this thing. I mean why it's a tipical thing to do if you're a prog rock bass player, when the prog keyboard players in your band can play the same or even better with their hands and their eyes closed. I've seen playing it Mike Rutherford, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Doug Ferguson..........Geddy Lee ( well they have not a keyboard player ) and Roger Waters, well to be honest he can't do it just beacouse he was not able to walk and fart at the same time (Floyd is my all time favorite band but let's be realistic on Roger)😅😂😊

    • @retrosound72
      @retrosound72  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A good question. 👍

    • @Farewelltokingz
      @Farewelltokingz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Keyboard players started standing up more as keys were added to rock bands and they could generally do an agile synth bass with a Minimoog or something of that nature. The main appeal of the Taurus for bass players is for fat drones, to free up the keyboard’s left hand and because bassists don’t often operate effects pedals like a guitarist or even a keyboard player.
