Okay for those who are on this 50/50 scale on wether she should be feeling guilty or not understand this: she was just a child at this very moment when her older sister wanted her to get her friend, she was obeying her sister's request and had no idea as to what was happening at all. So in conclusion she was absolutely innocent from the beginning and end of this crime that was committed, there is no way she understood why her sister wanted to grab her and should not feel guilty. Although she probably blames herself for doing what her sister told her to do.

I did child psychology as part of my teaching degree. All the statistics show abused children often become desensitised & see abuse as a norm they model & repeat. It's also an attempt to avoid their victim role & take back their lost power. Some children won't abuse, but they may be attracted to relationships with abusers because it's familiar & again, they see it as a norm . And some children will come out of it & build a happy life. You can't lump everyone in the same category. Humans are way more complex than that psychologically.

A friend of mine who was actually only two days older than me went to school for almost our whole life. When I was older I found/figured out why his mom was so pretty. He was born just after his mom's 15th birthday. He had two loving, non drug abusing parents that raised him and he turned out pretty much ok. It's not all about automatic condemnation for a child of teen parents. It also has a lot to do with their support system, and extended family relationships. Just trying to put a positive little light on this horrific story I guess. Peace everyone. 😎

But if you're ready to step up and move forward, the child will learn and have a deserved childhood. Sometimes we make mistakes, but how we react to them is crucial. We do our level best with what we have at that time.

I agree. My mom was 27 when she had me, she did drugs and drank alcohol while pregnant with me and she’s still an addict and drunk...I’m 32. She didn’t raise any of her kids, my grandma did. It’s stupid that people act like grown ass adults don’t have kids that they should have never had. I was a teen mom and not a drug user or alcoholic. I had my first at 17. Why that is, is because my aunt was put in the same jail as allysa and she told me the story of her talking to allysa for the first time. She said allysa had a girlfriend names Rosie or something along those lines and she seemed sweet and energetic and was very popular around the jail. However she had attempted hurting multiple other young inmates put in for smaller crimes. She said she often would paint on the cell walls with her on blood which is disturbing. My aunt never knew what she was writing but was disgusted by it each time. She said she never talked about her crime and would always brush it off when someone asked why. HOWEVER that pysco would always talk about how she might get realised early and how she wanted to go back for the rest of the family. You, You're my kind of, and I'm being very presuming and if wrong, I beg forgive me, Christian.
I grew up with 5 siblings. 2 parents who worked minimum wage or less. We had a hell of a lot of birthdays where the television trope of clothes for a birthday or Christmas was "Yeah, why laugh there, that's what you get for those days. New pants, SCHOOL PANTS!( some of you get it!) and a couple of bucks. Then a shared gift, Nintendo was the best ever. Man, kids today have no idea how awesome the JC Penny Catalogue was.
But, they damn well loved us all. Still do. Pappy ain't around anymore, but I buy my mother books, they paid for my books when I was a kid, hell, I can get em whatever they want and more. :) My Father had just began "Still Life with Crows" by Preston/Child.
I'm happy about that. Knowing he went out with a book in his hand or on his lap, a book about bushwackers, shootumups, injun raids, and the FBI and magic. He went out laughing, and I'm sure he's still not even half-way over Bifrost because he wants to talk to Fenris and see if he can get that leg jumping. 1945-2020. Laughed every day of it.
I can't imagine the sadness of someone who's parents didn't give them that.
And I'm from a hell of a staircase of Steps and enough halfs to make ten wholes at least,
To be someone's Parent ain't blood. To be a good Parent is to just give a damn. Try to prepare them for the world we're handing off, and stay out of their way.

As someone who was wildly depressed, has self harmed and has taken Prozac, I can empathize with this. People act like they understand what it's like to live in a mentally disrupted mind... but they don't. I've felt, seen, heard.. really terrifying things. Prozac sort of numbed me from feeling but it didn't stop my thought process.
Even when I did get prescribed Prozac, I still attempted a few years ago. Things have gotten better but that's because I was with a not so aggressively background as this, was older (18) and had some sort of support system (my dad helped a lot). Reality and fiction morph a lot when you're like this, and things that happen feel more like a fever dream. My entire teenage years are filled with sobs and screams, and I never want to relive it.
This isn't some sort of monster. She was a child that killed another child. This is the consequences of a poor upbringing, negligence in mental health and loneliness. I could have been that same person but I was lucky, and the same could go for so many others that were capable of pulling out of it. I hope that both families can learn to live with the events, and Alyssa can find some sort of rehabilitation through psychological treatment.
I wouldn't want to be her friend but I would want people to not suffer from psychological issues, as I would hope for them to me. There is no redemption from this. Just sadness and suffering.

Hi there! As someone who has been on Fluoxetine (Prozac) since I was about 12 or 13 years old, it defiantly doesn't "make you kill people". I've been diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety for about 6 years (I'm 18 now) and I have never once thought about harming anyone other than myself. I understand that everyone's experiences are different, but its still so disheartening to see the stigma and stereotypes around people with mental illness. If Alyssa had the treatment and proper care I can bet you this wouldn't have ended how it did.

I've been on prozac for 7 years myself. It is the only antidepressant med that HASN'T made me violent. Everyone reacts different to every medication. I agree that people saying that antidepressants, prozac or otherwise, make you kill people have never met someone openly on SSRIs or only hear the bad side of them.

Bit on my mental illness before continuing onto what i have to say... I have treatment resistant schizoaffective disorder, bpd, c-ptsd, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and adhd. My first primary diagnosis was in 2009 with mdd, 2011 they changed primary diagnosis to bipolar disorder, in 2013 when i was 28yo primary diagnosis changed again to schizoaffective disorder when i finally opened up about enduring hallucinations that have never stopped since i was 12yo; hallucinations hadnt been problematic or causing distress until my mid 20s.
*In no way am i defending, condoning, or condemning this tragedy.*
I am just sharing information most are unaware of & often the case been suppressed by manufacturers from the usage & side effect sheets/inserts until a massive class action lawsuit happens (seroquel's side effect- causes diabetes in high amount of patients & manufacturer denied claim then found suppressing health risk after lawsuite for example)
Now onto what i have to say/share...
Taking any antideppresant especially Ssri's, snri's, and Atypical antidepressants, should never be a 1st line treatment. all 3 classes have significantly high.... sometimes irreversible risks such as inducing psychosis, dangerous behavioral change, magnifying mood shifts & severity, worsening depression & underlying symtoms, hinder thinking ability including right/wrong, severe permanent health risks.
These should only be prescribed after other treatment options, supportive care, & support system dont provide improvement for person--- only prescribed for no more than a 1 year period weaning at end then followed by a monitored "med break" because they are NOT a permanent treatment & become less and less effective the longer they are taken.

As someone who takes Prozac, that theory is absolutely ridiculous. Do not blame the medication. It was the person who committed the crime. Blaming the medication does nothing but harm others. Saying people who take Prozac are ‘10x more susceptible to committing violent crimes’ only makes the general public afraid of those who take those medications, in turn isolating a group of perfectly innocent people. Prozac has helped me manage my anxiety and I’m grateful that I don’t have as many panic attacks as I used to because of it. Stop shifting the blame. The Prozac did not take her hand and force her to commit murder. She did that on her own.

Having been on a number of different medications over the years, I can say with absolute certainty that she had to already be thinking of doing something like this. Whilst there may be side effects that increase aggression, it does not create it, and I'm glad the expert witness didn't allow her to get out of it with that excuse. I do think her mental illness or illnesses contributed to her committing this crime, but, again, this is not an excuse for it, just a potential factor
