This story of this poor family is the exact reason that the laws against child predators and sex offenders should be stricter and they should never be released to do the same thing again or worse. My heart goes out to the little girl. I hope she can overcome the trauma.❤️❤️❤️

Here's the thing about making stricter laws. They usually end up hurting innocent people and not the people it needs to. I think what you need first and foremost is to realize the United States isn't as safe as you think it is and to be alert. These crimes ain't new only thing new is how fast the crimes get reported.

And from what I understand the young girl that survived has lived a very difficult life ever since. When I was married to my ex-wife I’d be gone sometimes from the house and I always worried about the family so I acquired two Rottweilers that would not let anyone near the house. Because this is one of my worst nightmares that some demon would come in the middle of the night. may these people rest in peace and I hope the young lady that survived we’ll get some help.

America is the world leader in incarcerating it's own people, 5% of the population, more than China, Iran/Iraq & Russia combined -
America has far more problems than just jailing young black men..the legal system is broken and there is inherently no justice system whatsoever.

The girl ended up being a criminal herself. I think the offenders are actually just people who were victims themselves and have unresolved trauma which needs to be addressed. They don't just commit a crime because they are evil people. As he says, he wants the underlying issues to be addressed so that crime does not happen in the first place. As you can see, he cried out to God asking why he would let this happen. He is a victim himself.
They need treatment to heal to prevent crime in the first place, as the "criminal" usually starts out as a victim such as in the girl's case as well.

I don't know exactly how he felt, but I can fathom it and understand exactly, but I can say Slade was a strong man for definite, it's the young age that makes you surviv like that.
despite injuries, in teenage years you often have a very strong drive, which keeps you going, you can be hyperactive
so if in critical condition becsuse of many fatal blows and you're gonna succumb, generally you're gonna GO untill you stop,

The only thing that one cannot be forgiven for is Blasphemy.
That's why those that believe need to stay in prayer continually for the people of Adonai Yeshua HaMessiah to be delivered from all forms of Darkness. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this. Almost wish I still didn’t. Heartless. Pure evil. That family just sleeping where they are supposed to be most safe. My heart BREAKS for all of them. And the oldest boy, his pain. I can’t believe people like this exist. Poor Dylan. I have a son named Dylan, then Shasta…to have to spend the time she did with the creature that murdered her family. I pray and I pray hard that this little girl has come to some sort of closure. Happiness. My goodness. Why?

I knew of this case already and I wish they would have included some of the interviews that Shasta has given as an adult. If I remember everything correctly she has said that Joseph r*ped her too and had tried to strangle her to death but didn’t when she called him „Joe“ (which was supposedly how his mum called him). Another detail I would have liked to be mentioned is that Josep asked Shasta to visit him in prison when he was arrested at that Denny‘s and she said yes (but obviously never did). Imagine having the gall to ask a child to visit you in prison after brutally killing her whole family and torturing her. This guy was truly insane! I wish they would have elaborated on the things that he had written about his childhood.
If I recall correctly Shasta struggled with addiction and I think that at least one biological child was taken from her (as far as I understood not because of abuse but because of her addiction- which might have led to neglect idk). I‘ve seen comments scrutinizing her for that and I find that disgusting. Some people can’t even find empathy for an addict who endured what she did. The fact that she’s still alive is a miracle to me and shows how strong she is. I hope that she got the help that she needed.

You are just supposed to "pick yourself up by the bootstraps" and make it through life no matter what hand you are dealt. Unfortunately, in the real world, that isn't something that can be done by everyone. Some people aren't born into money, or a loving family, or with total control of their mental facilities, so a stronger infrastructure of a safety net is vital to stop these things from happening. But like in most situations in this country, we don't try to prevent issues, we just react once something horrible happens. Its sad and it won't change.

People talking about the children Slade, Shasta, and Dylan but let’s not forget Anthony, Carmen and sammiejo -other childrens lives he also took.
As well as the parents he brutally beat.
Let’s take a moment for them all.
    RIP ANGELS 🙏🏻

I remember hearing about this case on the news when I was a kid. I never knew how horrendous the details were, my parents always changed the channel before I could hear anything. My heart aches for Shasta. I can't begin to fathom what it's like going through something so abhorrent and traumatizing. Thank god she has her father to support her and get her mental\physical help she needs. She'll never read it but, good luck in your recovery Shasta, healing is possible ❤️

The part where the abuser says “ he knew a lot about abuse… “ I have no doubt he did. Whatever suffering he may or may not have experienced in childhood that fuelled his later behaviour doesn’t wash with me. I have sympathy for the child in him and his earlier experiences but not for the adult for the following reasons. When we are grown, regardless of our history we become adults and have to take responsibility for the decisions we make. There are billions of people on this planet, many of home have experienced harder childhood experiences than this perpetrator, and yet they didn’t behave like him, also there are many other people who experienced less childhood harm than him and as adults did far worse!
Swings and roundabouts! There’s a point where regardless of our history we have to take the consequences of our behaviour. So he should never ever be set free in society again. The public have an absolute right to remain protected and I doubt very much he can be rehabilitated and even if he can be, his crimes are so heinous he should never be forgiven.

@@wingingninja LMAO believe in what you want, it wont change alot. Also, you were spewing alot of bullshit. You clearly have no idea that somebody, who had a traumatic childhood and nobody to support him (the abuser had to, otherwise unlikely he wouldve turned out that way), does not just simply "SNAP OUT" of it and "takes responsibility". You have no fucking single clue about what you're talking about. It might be the case if you're foolish, or mildly disturbed etc, but if you really got fucked up as a child and left to your own, you do not just magically turn around.

I moved to Coeur d'Alene a few years after this happened but I had seen the news about it before the move and it really shook me and has stayed with me ever since. We personally weren't friends but my children and Shasta were and went to school together. I really feel for her and the incredibly horrifying experience she went through and had a really hard time growing up. Undoubtedly and not surprising after what she went through. I know she moved away a few years ago bc of constantly being asked about her ordeal and the constant reminder. She said she didn't want to be known as the girl who's family was murdered and wanted to go somewhere new to make a fresh start but she is still in Idaho. She has 2 kids now last I heard and doing as best as she can. To this day, I tell my children repeatedly to ALWAYS make sure the doors are locked. You never know what monster will base their evil decision on whether or not the door was left unlocked.

I was seven when the Groene case went on, and I grew up a few hours drive south of where it happened in Twin Falls. I remember hearing it on the news and how they were looking for the kids and how they were almost certain they were both dead. When Shasta was found it was absolutely--I guess mindboggling is the correct word. The fact that Dylan didn't make it was horrible. I don't know what ended up happening to Shasta or how she's doing today, but I wish her all the best and have all the love in the world for her.

I knew Shasta growing up. She was a few grades lower than me... She went to my high school, and she had a friend group that was kind of polar to mine. I wish I would have reached out to her more than I did to become a friend that truly cares for her for life... But I was a shy emo kid, and was caught up back then... I hope she is doing well now, and is getting the love and care that she needs and deserves, from people who know how to love and care... which is rare.
