A lot of people find this couple boring, while i find that it's such a good example for kids. My generation was taught that romance was dramatic and explosive, big fights, big gestures, and that your loved one should just look at you and know what you need. So to see a kids series show the main couple communicating constantly and openly, being stable, supporting eachother through everything, and just being genuinely nice and kind to eachother, is such a good example.
@@noorbohamad5796 that's what I say! Just because there aren't any big fights and misunderstandings and love triangles and stuff that means they're boring? I don't think so, but I see so many people say they're boring
@@jennymesas4699 I personally get more bored by watching manufactured drama because i'm just like 'why can't you just let a couple be a couple' it always comes off as contrived and 'why do these two people want to be together in the first place if they have endless misunderstandings?'
Ross and Laura had a lot of natural chemistry, and you really rooted for Austin and Ally to get together. I'm glad that they decided not to pair Dez and Trish together romantically, as that might have felt too forced.
To be honest, Trish deserved better. Apart from Jace, all of Trish’s boyfriends were kind of assholes. Trent had another girlfriend behind her back and lied to her about it and manipulated her to be Austin’s backup dancer. His “apology” was a sorry he got caught and not sorry he did it. Roger was OK, but I can’t actually judge him because I know nothing about his character. Chuck is her husband, and he is inappropriate and creepy with her. He looks at her like a piece of meat and winks at her and probably only wants to get into her pants. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chuck is either cheating on Trish or emotionally/verbally abusive with her. He always gave me rapey/sexual assault vibes with Trish and he gives me vibes of misogynistic assholes who get women drunk/drug them and then take advantage of them and have sex with them when they can’t give consent, which is rape.
I love how well spoken and mature they made ally. We definitely sleep on how healthy the characters were written and how healthy they communicated to each other. Austin's an apologetic sweetheart and is so generous that it's perfectly natural whenever they discuss issues that come up in their relationship. Especially when you think that people see Boy meets world relationships as healthy 💀
Absolutely agree with this!! I remember watching the show when it originally aired but now you have given me curiosity to go back to some episodes purely for this point. Well said!
I agree, looking back on old disney shows, having all the main characters gel well together isn't something the network always got right, especially the shows that weren't a family centred show, Like Suite life, Sonny with a chance and Hannah Montanna definitely fall into this catagory at times. The characters can get a bit wishy washy and personalies kind of merg or clash with other characters on the show or their steryotypes really limit their growth and development throughout the show. But Austin, Trish, Ally and Dez were all so different character types that it just worked really well, the show wasn't overcrowded since there were only 4 of them. And their character types didn't limit their character growth and individual storylines, but at the same type they didn't mesh into eachother and begin to feel like a different character and ontop of the chemistry the actors had together, I think that was one of the strongest parts of the Show. Looking back at Hannah Montanna, I never really thought any of her friendships or relationships we're great, as much as I like Lilly and Mileys friendship, it wasn't always written well and Lilly was very inconsistent. The main relationship focus of that show was Miley and her dad, and I think its obvious that that was one of the strongest parts of Hannah Montanna so the other characters tended to get random storylines and inconsistent character growth. Then with Suite life on Deck. I think the character types overlapped too much at times. Like sometimes Zack would be portrayed as a cool bad boy but then other times to relate to woody, he was portrayed as a gross slob. And I think a similar thing happend when Marcus joined the show. And I dont think Bailey was ever wrotten particularly well as she was just a very unsubtle country girl steryotype but then also a genious because she had to date Cody??? And her relationship with london, while still entering, was a shadow of Maddie and londons relationship. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't on that show. And then Sonny with a chance, I never boight into the fact that they were friends and liked eachother, the only character that was really given any growth was Chad, and i guess you could argue Sonny because of their relationship, but the so Random cast especially had almost no chemistry as a group and at times it makes it hard to watch because most of the characters were never given any room to grow out of their steryotypes and at times it felt tired. But like i said, Austin and ally had a really good grouo dynamic and the actors were really good in the roles so even when the storylines weren't the best in later seasons, it was still somewhat enjoyable just to see the characters interact with eachother.
@angel127_ I really like this take on it. What I forgot to mention but was basically implying that the old-fashioned disney Way is dumbing down characters for the laughs of it, which makes them the most lazy written. But even though they made these characters have an oopsies here and there, they still made ally very mature and well-spoken for a character, especially a female character. They really loved to dumb down the girl characters, and I remember when this came out, I and others weren't as interested in it. But watching it recently, it's so refreshing to see healthy communication between characters for a kids' show. And like you mentioned, the tropes and bonds. We love to see it
I know its not the focus of this video but I really loved seeing Trish, a plus size teen, on this show. They didnt make her do a weight loss episode and she wasnt the butt of jokes, she was super confident and it felt like she did whatever she wanted. As a plus size shy teen it was really nice to see someone closer to my size who didnt get pushed to change her physical body
I've always loved Trish. She's absolutely hilarious, beautiful and I loved her confidence. I feel like Raini did a very good job with her role and her comedic timing was perfect😃
This!!!!! That's one thing I loved about this show. There were SEVERAL shows between Disney and nickelodeon that had larger kids that were always the focus of overweight or even ugly jokes and it used to make me so sad. I loved that not once did anyone ever discuss her weight and she dates cute guys and they made her a true queen!
I'd forgotten that a young Noah Centineo played Ally's other love interest, Dallas. Also, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that both Austin and Dallas were named after cities in Texas! 😂
10 year old non-american me didn't know Austin was an actual town, so I was convinced that the joke was that Austin and Dez were stupid for thinking that it's an existing town 😂 The episode never addressed that, so I figured out that I must have gotten a bit confused there
this video is actually how i found that out 😅 i also haven’t seen much with Noah in it since then so not a lot of opportunities to put that together lol
I read somewhere the directors said austin and ally always was supposed to have the romantic plot line but not as soon (season 2) but then because of the fans they did it sooner.
Actually the showrunners of the show didn't have the idea of pairing Austin and Ally at first, but when the series was moving forward, it was Ross and Laura's chemistry that got the showrunners the idea to make them a couple.
@@caitlinmckillop Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. Do you like the Austin & Ally episode, "Austin & Jessie & Ally All Star New Year!"? Yes or no? Please let me know in the comments down below.
@@jeremysanchez5227why on earth would professional writers "not have the idea" of giving the two main characters a romantic relationship? Obviously they'd thought of it
One thing to notice about this pair is how good they were for each other. For example, Because of Ally, Austin matures a little bit and it was thanks to Austin that ally gained the confidence to finally overcome her stage fright. Not a lot of these Disney channel matchups show you people who influence each other for the better.
i watched A&A while it was airing and did not remember how GOOD their friends to lovers arc was. austin was in LOVE like he’s literally the best partner ever. always reassuring her and letting her know that he cares about her. love them sm!
"high relationship standards" is a pretty good protection spell. Though it can be hard and make dating take longer in the game and locks some dialogue choices (eg; when Greg asks you if you would pay his half of the lease so he can get back with his ex, you can't say yes, and then when he "professes his love" to you on your doorstep, after she breaks up with him when she finds out he did that to you, and because he tried to cheat on her, you also can't accept his marriage proposal), but it can make it easier to reach the Good Ending you deserve without having to save-scum. "High standards" not meaning "guy in finance, 6'5, blue eyes", just meaning "someone who I actually love and wouldn't prefer anyone else to, not even a celebrity crush."
ok but the fact that they made us watch 6 episodes of will they won’t they only to have them BREAK UP in the SAME EPISODE THEY FINALLY BECOME A COUPLE.
Yasssss literally. It also made me mad that no a single soul thought of the idea of them becoming a duo till the final episode. Like yall were already partners the entire time they were friends. The sang and performered multiple songs. And you mean to tell me that when distance became an issue not a single soul thought of that solution 😂
Yeah, for the life of me, this felt really dragged out. And you'll see this a lot in film and TV that involves romance and couples, where they turn this into a running joke. Yet, it feels insulting forced in. Which is more odd, when you consider that Disney has done this cliche before, but it was done well; a good example being The Rescuers: Down Under. For all it's flaws, one thing it got right was the relationship between Bernard and Bianca. Bernard continuously tries to share his feelings towards her, even attempting to propose, but it continuously backfires, yet he tries again. But he's also shy, over-thinks everything, has low-self esteem, and is afraid of everything but finds the courage to do what needs to be done. There was more to him outside of that one joke, therefore we are rooting for him and Bianca to be together, while rolling our eyes when it doesn't go well. But in Austin & Ally, Austin has none of those traits when he realizes that he wants to be with Ally instead. If anything, I thought they gave Ally Bernard's character traits and this worked well with the whole love triangle between her, Austin, and Kira, with Austin realizing he wants to be with her, instead of Kira. But with the inclusion of characters like Piper and Gavin, as well as making Austin the one who seems awkward to tell Ally how he feels about her, it feels very contrived.
When people say the phrase "quirked up white boy goated with the sauce" I always think of Dez. He was and is THE quirked up white boy goated with the sauce.
The way Ross Lynch had me in a chokehold when I was 11 is not even funny, I was in LOVE with him. That hair in the last season was a choice tho. Also the music was amazing, so was the chemistry between Ross and Laura. PS. I got to meet Ross in a Driver Era concert and his skin is flawless 👀
I never got to meet him, but I was towards the front at an R5 concert and my favorite song from them at the time (F.E.E.L.G.O.O.D.) came on and I was jamming harder than anyone else in the crowd. Ross looked directly at me and said "Yeah I see you!" I was so excited! I tell everyone that story any time he comes up in conversation!
They got the best series finale on a Disney series, for me. They got married and had children. Not not mention the last scene of the series where Austin and Ally play can't do it without you on the piano. That's how you end a series, people. It still gives me chills till this day.
Ross said in an interview on the Zach Sang show the he doesn't feel like Austin and Ally is a kids show even though it was on Disney Channel cause every generation (kids to adults) can learn different lessons from it
i think ross lynch just does a really good job at being that sweet golden retriever boyfriend. he did it great in teen beach movie with maia mitchell as well
he was also great at first (he was still great but his character over time irked me haha) in the chilling adventures of sabrina!! but i may be biased bc once a ross lynch girly, always a ross lynch girly 😩
austin singing stuck on you, arguably during the most vulnerable and difficult time for him, while looking at ally for support and comfort as the lyrics suggest how down bad he is for her, genuinely altered my brain chemistry
What I love about this show after rewatching it in my 20s is seeing how MATURE Austin and Ally handled this sort of friends w/ benefits relationship that was not only business wise mutually beneficial, but also took things seriously considering one another's feelings without jeopardize friendships and relations with others in their lives. Mind you, the characters are in HIGH SCHOOL and are what like 16?! Like there's people out here at my age in my 20s that STILL treat you like a tool or accessory. I think it's also cute how Austin cared for Ally, like he was in a situation where he could easily have just used her and then peace out and that's sadly the truth in the music industry. But he stayed with her thru and thru every hardship and when you realize at the end of the series in the finale that the whole show was them telling their kids how they met adds that final bow on this show imo.
dang, recapping their whole relationship in one video really reveals how selfless and sacrificial Austin's love for Ally is. That's something I definitely didn't see as a kid. I always rooted for them growing up, but watching your video made me appreciate them even more :)
as someone who was obsessed with this show as a kid, I do have a few tidbits I remember hearing about when I was 12: -the creators of the show said at one point that they knew from the beginning that they wanted to end the show in a “how I met your mother” kinda way! so austin and ally were always going to end up together, though not sure if the plot was rushed due to demand -I legit remember watching the episode where they kiss for the first time and genuinely being so excited that they liked each other and were gonna be together. But my little brain back then couldn’t have handled a slow burn relationship like I can today, so to 5th grade me that WAS a slow burn. So while watching back now it seems jarring and rushed, kids don’t pick up on all of that stuff as much nor do they have attention spans to hold out for whole seasons of build up. I literally remember going to school the next day and all my friends being shook about it lol -the twilight kiss was actually Laura’s first kiss and that episode was shot on Valentine’s Day lol -there’s a video somewhere where Ross says that one of the A&A kisses was unscripted. Not sure which one
The episode was the one when Austin exposes that he's dating Ally even after Jimmy Star forbids him from it. They said the kiss there was unscripted and both he and Laura came up with it
yea back when it was airing it definitely felt a lot slower because we had to wait days between episodes to see what would happen next! it probably felt jarring and rushed to Caitlin because she binged it
@@mandyyyy1255 no fr between the initial austin and ally dating arc and when they were having the new baby in good luck Charlie, waiting week to week felt like torture back then 😂
I also agree as a child watching their first kiss around like 5th grade I was genuinely excited and wanted to immediately see what happened next with the drama but now that I’m older I can understand maybe them stretching it out is better for story writing wise.
Their hands touching while playing the piano as they write the song in the first episode is my entire reason for watching the show. They shared a brief awkward look when it happens. Like it happens fast in their writing montage but I took that to mean that they would be together by the end. So there was never any doubt in my mind on whether the writers intended for them to get together or not. I'm always confused when people complain about them getting together and saying that they should've stayed friends because I feel like it was set up from the beginning. But I guess most people didn't read that moment as romantic. Austin saying that he loves that feeling of their hands touching at the piano in the second season always melted my heart.
One of the reasons I think people complain about them being together is that Austin and Ally's relationship goes beyond that typical romantic duality i.e. alot of the time their build up was not explicitly romantic because the focus of the show was their partnership.
That’s actually exactly what I thought when I first heard that. Like bro she literally was on your head about reading her book last season. Where’s your head at?😂
I honestly forget that Austin, Ally, Trish, and Dez are all meant to be in high school because it’s such an afterthought of an aspect. Plus, with the high-jinxes that they get into from episode to episode without much consequence, they act more like college students
i was thinking the same thing! jessie and l&m had one, and a&a had one with jessie, so we know they are all in the same universe but i wish they elaborated
I didn’t always love the way their story was handled from a writing perspective, but honestly the performances from Ross and Laura are so good that I can’t help but like watching them together anyway. Also, on an unrelated note, seeing all these clips again just reminds me how much Dez was probably my favorite character out of the entire cast.
i feel like austin and ally would’ve been perfect had they only got together at prom instead of that first time. as you said, it developed too quickly and it needed a bit more build up. but i think the writers counted season 1 as their build up. personally i love that season 1 had little to no romantic undertones and focused on their friendship and building that foundation. i think that is what makes their relationship work so well. i gotta say the 4 years without them talking is so out of character for them because they’ve always put their bond and friendship above their romantic relationship so even they took a break and broke up, they would’ve ended up talking. it makes no sense that they of all people would stop talking. also whether it was their intention or not, i shipped them from season 1. and i also really liked that austin realised his feelings for ally by saying that when their hands touch when they’re playing piano together he feels in a way no one else can make him feel. in the very first episode when they’re writing their first song together you can see them get awkward and flustered when they touch hands playing piano so i feel like it was a nice call back.
See for me, the explain I headcanon as to why they stopped talking for 4 years is because of how they were in season 2/3 post first break up. Like, they weren't able to NOT act like a couple. They weren't able to continue to be JUST friends. And Austin's "I can't lose you again" line always made me think that not being together with Ally tormented him more than we thought/saw. Which to me, is why I headcanon that after their s4 breakup, they had to cut contact because it was hard for them to talk and be around each other and be able to be a couple or say they're in love.
@@cosplayerqueen9878 yea I completely agree with your thought process!!! I think the first time they break up was different because They weren't really expecting to fall for one another. Like Ally didn't realize she liked Austin at all until they were planning his date with kira . And Austin doesn't realize it until Dez makes him discuss things he likes about Ally. So at first its Being in the relationship and fully acting like a couple that was actually hard for them. It isn't until they date other people (again 😂) that they realize their feelings for one another are stronger than any other and that they aren't going away. It was much easier for them to go back to being friends because they never really got a chance to be a full on couple the first time they kiss and become "offical ". By the time they break up when they're in college they had already been in love and been a couple for years at that point. So it's kinda totally different. And also they separated because of their solo careers they barely got to spend time together. It wasn't like they broke up because the two of them didn't want to be together. It was the complete opposite. They broke up because more than anything they wanted to be together but because of their schedules they couldn't really make it work like they wanted to and that was too painful for the both of them. It was too hard for them to go back to being "just" friends after being lovers because it was a constant reminder of what they wanted but couldn't have.
Sad how they are called toxic when they aren't that at all. They handled things maturely more than other shows from what I've seen. Even when they took breaks from their relationship, they still loved each other. Even their songs are about each other.
From a plot perspective, I understand why having a weird meeting that isn't really a meet cute and a song like Not A Love Song were strange choices. But from a high school perspective it feels so realistic! Having a completely platonic friendship with someone one day and then suddenly realizing things have changed like "oh shit this is a crush now". (I completely agree that it would've worked a lot better if they had more slow burn realization scenes though)
THIS is the ship analysis i was waiting for! austin and ally was my comfort show growing up and i've never really thought about their ship much outside of i just loved them. yeah the rush of friends to lovers in s2 is a bit jarring in retrospect, but as a kid i didn't mind i just loved them being in love. thx again for this video 💖
As accidental as this ship was, it was the most healthy disney ship XD like full of comunication, understanding and not cheap drama, making one of them worse to force a break up.
A&A is 100% my show. And here it is important to emphasize that I like everything. This is almost the only show in the whole of Disney where I really like songs, costumes, jokes, side characters and the "filler" episodes (I don't know if you can call them that, but these are the ones where the romantic line or career practically did not develop). I'm serious, the comicon episode, the future, the Halloween episodes are just great. They are cheerfully and interestingly written in the plot plan, and it is clear that the screenwriters know their characters and how interesting it is to discover new facets in their interaction. Well, I think the episode where they make a documentary is the best in the series. The perfect combination of humor, satire of the characters on themselves, satire of the screenwriters over cliches and other genres and genuine sincerity in the characters, the problems that they are trying to solve in this way. I respect writing in A&A.
"I'm honestly a sucker for good byes, every time I watch this scene makes me wanna cry, and I don't know why" this is a quote from this video. This would go perfect in a love song.
I love to see Austin jealous, is so funny. That’s why the episodes where Elliot and Gavin appear are two of my favs! And I agree, Steal Your Heart is INCREDIBLE
Yea I really liked seeing him get jealous too. It was always just so cute seeing him be so caring and sweet towards her. When it came to ally I always felt like he truly was willing to wear his heart on his sleeve for her. generally i feel like they always make the girls fall the hardest or first . And I feel like when they first figure out they liked each other ally definitely was much more aware and receptive of admitting she liked him. while Austin seemed to be the one that was one foot in and one foot out. Like he couldn't decide who he liked more honestly until they sang the duet and kissed. So when it first aired I remembering enjoying getting to watch him be the one to admit he really couldn't move on from liking her. The prom episodes were some of my favorite because of that
Omg what is so crazy to me is that they look soooo young because I remember watching A&A when it first came out and they seemed so old to me because I was still a young teenager back then. Looking back at the series as an adult I only now realize how young they actually looked lol!
I love how mature the characters in this show are. They’re goofy and act like teens but they have so much emotional maturity and I enjoy that about the show

If I recall correctly it was part of a line of episodes of different shows that all had a hidden kangaroo and the viewers were supposed to find the hidden kangaroos. I think it was part of a and a, Jessie, and I think liv and maddie. I could be wrong as this was years ago.

What sold me on this ship was how they were always there for each other 100%, there was never a doubt that they loved each other and they always prioritised the other! I feel like we definitely don't see such bonds and true relationships in tv-shows! Also the fact that they were a (mostly) drama free couple in the 4th season, and that we really got to see them as a couple was also something I really enjoyed! It was just a very non-toxic ship and I love that! Thanks for making this video about them, loved watching it! ❤💛
I love ships but Disney Channel's ship never did it for me until Austin & Ally. The chemistry and development between them was so cute to see. They were friends first and cared so much from the other no matter what, it feels like their relationship progresses naturally into one of the best love stories. Also Laura and Ross close bond helped so much the fact they're still friends makes my heart so happy
This ship was my EVERYTHING when it was airing. I really appreciate you covering them! I will say that from my perspective it definitely felt like a strong slow burn (but maybe I'm just impatient). I think any slower of a slow burn might've killed me.
One thing I noticed was that Austin has dated a majority of really nice, mature girls and I feel that it’s because they’ve reminded him of Ally who he actually wants to be with.
@@noorbohamad5796 That’s why I said “ Majority “ cuz Brooke was the exception to the rule. Anyone feel the show should have sent that one to a psych ward?

I appreciate that even though this show isn't one of your long-time favorites, you still put a lot of effort into analyzing this ship and the reasons why so many other people who are long time fans of this show, absolutely adore this couple. I've been wanting a video about Auslly from you for so long so this video was such a fun watch! Thank you❤
Austin and ally are THE no 1 Disney ship for me, even though the buildup was bad when they were together they gave us ship content and there weren’t jealousy storylines and I just really appreciated that
This relationship is my favorite from disney channel. They are so well written and healthy even more than normal television couples overlooking how they never seem to get togather. Austin moon should be the standard for everyone he is the perfect boyfriend.
I shipped these two so hard. The will they, won’t they felt like a tug of war but they were the only couple that Disney gave us that was healthy. Even when they weren’t romantically involved, they had an amazing relationship. They were always supportive of each other, had each other’s back. There wasn’t anything they wouldn’t do for each other, what Disney pair can you say was that healthy of a model for their viewers.
i just feel like they're such great characters and well develept, that it just sits right with me for them to end up together. Like, the fact that they are great individually makes them also great together (idk if that makes sense
the cameos in this show were CRAZY, maddie ziegler, noah centineo. i think the craziest one was dove cameron and ryan mccartan, who had only played characters that were dating because they were dating irl at the time, playing SIBLINGS
2:00:01 I didn't even watch the show and I was getting emotional. How did they somehow write a successfully wholesome romance when so many other shows for that age demographic are poorly written and full of toxic drama?

This is slowly becoming one of the more cozy nostalgia channels on youtube. Austin and Ally was one of the last shows I watched before deciding I was ready for "big kid" shows.
Honestly, I didn’t know that Austin and ally would end up couple when watched the show for the first time. But when they did, I was pretty excited! And honestly, their ship and the music from the series albums were the only reason I kept watching
I remember crying about Austin and Ally breaking up at the same time season 6 of The Walking Dead premiered, because I cried at both episodes premiering on one single Sunday. what a rough childhood
I definitely think that having their story be more of a slow burn would have been better. I think it could have helped with the whole "maybe we shouldn't be together" line being said at least 20xs in the series. I do, however, feel like this is one of the only ships from Disney that I feel is believable and realistic. Austin and Ally really aren't toxic for each other, and they are both very mature considering the age that they are supposed to be. That's not something that I see super often with Disney ships.
Austin was the greenest green flag ever. I loved him as a kid; and looking back as an adult, he and Ally had a very mature relationship for a couple of teenagers. Always acting with good intentions, admitting mistakes, sincerely apologizing, compromise and sacrifice, selflessness, encouraging, open communication, and mostly just love. They had love for each other and they let it motivate their actions. The story beats weren’t perfect. I agree they rushed them getting together the first time, and the idea of them not talking for 4 years is wild; but I suppose it could happen. But all in all it’s a very healthy relationship. Not the most exciting one, but much better than most of the other relationships that were portrayed on tv around that time. I remember Nickelodeon especially seemed to love toxic couples. 😅
@@noorbohamad5796 Sure. Alongside gaslighting, disregard of boundaries, physical violence, and lack of personal interest. Which, in many ways, are worse than cheating.
I think part of the reason that the producers had their relationship develop so fast is that they weren’t originally supposed to have a 4th season and so they wanted to get in as much Auslly as they could
Props for sitting through all four seasons and making a 2h summary video of it. That's a level of dedication i havent really seen much, especially about a show you aren't even that into. Altho, it is kinda sad and dissapointing to see you miss the point of the show in some of your interpretations. As you are familiar with, A&A is a show intended for younger teens. its 60% more comedy than it is "typical romance", so most lines and scenes need to be interpreted as such, just inteded to make kids laugh. S1 is purely platonic with hints to pottential feelings, because that's how friends to lovers works. the heart of the show isnt austin and ally's romance, its their partnership. whether they ended up together or not in the end, it wouldnt change the fact that they have a unique bond. thats why theres so many ups and downs, its not to tease the fans or even to give fanservice. The affection they hold for eachother grows to become uncomparable to any other of their relationships (friends, family or romantic). thats why they have a hard time figuring out what label to give themselves. The beauty of this ship is how real and sincere they are. They care MORE about their friendship then anything else. The romance they (and most of us) were taught is way too superficial or fragile for the bond they have, and the plot is them realising that this precious bond they share is what love truly is. they never once stopped having feelings for eachother, even while dating other people. the feelings they had for other people never dimmed down the feelings they had for eachother, cuse it just was growing more and more with every friendly casual moments they shared. its a no brainer that they would repress and block off those feelings to the point of being in denial until they hurt other people and annoy us with their sudden explosions of repressed feelings. That what we expect out of a slow burn. It's easy to get distracted by the TONES of filler superficial comedy , but the real heart of the show is the preciousness of sincere frienship and partnership in romance. It's a kids show, but when ur able to take a step back and separate whats ment as a joke and whats is ment to be remebered, you realise how much this story stands out from other kids shows, and could have translated so well as a regular tv-show.
i love this comment so much. i do think cait's interpretation is valid and makes sense, but i saw their relationship just like how you described it. i absolutely adore ships that dont simply feel like a romantic relationship, but are inventing their own kind of relationship that no label can really define. its so pure and you put it into words so well
1:48:45 the fact that november 29 is laura's birthday too is so fun to me. also fun fact! laura and ross were born exactly one month apart in 1995, laura on nov 29 and ross on dec 29.
For me personally, Auslly are so special to me like they're one of my favourite ships ever. Like they're so perfect to me as a friends to lovers and whilst things did feel a bit jarring at times, their moments me so soft and full of love for them. I get butterflies watching them back like they really had such an impact on me and I'll always how Disney ended things so well with them. Can we just firstly mention they cutest height difference and just general size difference ever. Ross' hands are huge so it felt like he was always scooping Laura up in the cutest way like I adore them. Their chemistry was so amazing. Side note: I had the biggest crush on Ross while this was airing and revisiting this is making my crush flare up again bc damn he's so hot. Personally for me the "shh just come here" scene was so cute and one of my faves because I think the reason he says it is because up until that point there had just been so much coming between them and he didn't want a single other to be said, he just wanted the song to speak for itself and for them to just have that moment and dwell in it. Idk, I understand your point but I always felt like he did it out of relief and exasperation like "finally just come here and be with me" idk lol. I do agree that season 1 was a little vague and I remember when the advertisements for Austin & Ally initially came out I actually thought they were like a brother and sister whose parents had been single and then got together just from their initial dynamic. But honestly watching this video and seeing how much Austin especially cared for her from the very beginning actually just showed me that season 1 did have a lot of underlying build up. I just feel like they were both so willing to give up a lot for each other, be there for each other and support each other and yes you could say it was as friends but I think it was their underlying feelings manifesting themselves when even they hadn't realised it yet. All their hugs in season 1 feel so precious to me and like you pointed out Austin is so sweet to Ally and always complimenting her which warmed my heart. I agree that they had a healthy relationship as a ship so I do think that they should have never gotten together that first time and the writers should have made it a "will they won't they" for longer. I think the real Austin and Ally would have communicated after the Butch & Bitey fight like you said to learn from their mistakes but the writers obviously wanted to break them up for drama. I feel like they could've just had the one break up later on had they not gotten together so soon, I also feel Dallas and Ally didn't even get to be a proper thing, and I would've liked to see Ally have a romantic relationship since Austin was kind of flirting with people and talking about girls a bit throughout the series. I do agree with the fourth season being a little messier and not as great but I do think big changes are very common for fourth seasons of Disney shows for example like them changing up all the sets for Hannah Montana Forever. I did think their break up being due to distance was hard to understand and more so because they seemed to be resentful of each other and didn't want to see each other because of that decision they'd made. I would've preferred if they just made the mature decision to break up, stay friends and when they reunited this time have a reunion on the Helen Show where they sang together and then people were like "you know what they should be a duo" and they realise then that's the answer they've been looking for. I would have also loved somewhere in that last episode for them to explicitly reference the show name "Austin and Ally" in a very obvious way but otherwise it was done fairly well. I also think whilst there were definitely a few plot holes for instance Jimmy allowing Austin to date Kira but not Ally or the slow-dancing thing. I do think they managed to give good continuity and were very good at referencing stuff that happened in the past at the right moments. Whether it was their hug or handshake moment. Or even the fact that their hands brushed on the piano the first time they wrote a song together and then Austin having that as one of the moments where he realised that he had feelings for Ally. I loved those callbacks. I will say after watching your video I feel like Austin did kind of do more in this relationship. Like always willing to make the biggest sacrifies and these big grand gestures of love which tbf I love to see because usually its the girl who falls harder. HOWEVER, I wish we saw Ally do more for Austin sometimes and have more episodes revolving around her showing her love to him Overall, I'm rambling but thanks for making this. I always love revisiting this ship.
i read the whole thing and i agree on a lot of your points!! but as for the “austin doing more for ally” thing, i believe its probably because ally is literally the one who kickstarted his career and continuously helped him. ally had no reason to become austin’s songwriter in the beginning so i always assumed he was probably just extremely grateful to her and always associated her with helping his dreams come true (which i believe makes him giving up his dream as a performer for her even more poetic). i’d also like to add that i think though austin is very generous, ally is very forgiving and understanding on the other hand. she forgives him for stealing her song, not showing up to the songwriting session in that one episode, or him pressuring her to write a song in that other one… but yes i do agree that austin was much more the sacrificial one but i would be lying if i said i didnt enjoy it as well 😭😭
Austin is innocently selfish in the beginning because he is still immature, he quickly figure things out though, a lot of times thanks to Ally’s presence. This is why she makes him a better person. Also the biggest thing I notice when rewatching the show was the amount of hints there where in the songs they played through out the show. Especially when Auslly broke up after season 2. Considering both Ally and Austin wrote the songs together or apart, you can tell by reading the lyrics what they feel about each other. Even the songs Austin sings alone, or for a crowd. Many songs are just a clear love letter of what they felt. I found that the writers did it on purpose, but I haven’t seen anyone notice it. I still love this show after all this years and always will. I cried rewatching it because you can tell the amount of love they put into the show. The cast and everyone involved are all still friends and I found that even more special.
I’ve only gotten through the friends chapter, but I have to say I’m really surprised you had such a different reaction to their early episodes! To me it seemed very obvious that this show always intended Austin and Ally to end up together later on, or at the very least it was always going to be a possibility. Especially with the handshake/hug and the moment at the piano in the pilot. I’m a big Aussly fan, and one of the main reasons is the arc you described in the first season. It’s why I love this kind of friends-to-lovers story. I liked the fact that both of them were genuinely platonic to start out and neither had hidden feelings. All the development in the first season is in relation to their growing friendship, but with small hints along the way of that becoming more later on. I think it’s a great tactic for a slow burn ship. But it’s definitely more remiscent to Disney ships from earlier eras such as Pheely in Phil of the Future or Kim/Ron in Kim Possible. While it would’ve been fine to keep them as friends, I do think their chemistry was the kind you would take advantage of for a love story - also not only are they friends-to-lovers but they’re also opposites attract which to me just adds to the likelihood that endgame was always the intention. They just fit so many rom-com tropes to me even if it wasn’t right out the gate love at first sight. And not those pesky Disney vocal nodules!
I absolutely adore A&A, i recently rewatched it and it didn't dissapoint, the friendships are so real and cute, i love them. The ship for me is so good, of course it had its moments where the drama was a bit unnecesary but at the end it played out just fine. I love how sometimes their attitudes/actions were cringe or inmature, but it just made sense for their age. I also love how in the first season wasn't any indication of romance, planned or not i think it works perfectly since that's how it works in real life, not every relationship that ends up in romace starts having it, so, that solely pure friendship season really helped me to love them as characters without focusing too much on a ship. The end definetly felt too rushed, as if they had planned a whole bunch more of seasons that didn't got aprooved or something, i think that plot that got squeezed up in 1 episode would've been so hurtful if it had been played in a whole season. Anyways, it's one of, if not, my all time favorite ship of disney, their chemistry feels so natural and organic it's just easy to watch and fall in love with them.
i think one of the most amazing things about their relationship is that you get to see them in a partnership, and you get to see them learn HOW TO BE in a partnership. and that’s why you know that when they finally get to it, their relationship is gonna last
I think a reason they wanted Austin to be so nice and selfless toward Ally in season 1 is because his pilot episode self isn’t the most likable. Like he stole Ally’s song then called her selfish for wanting credit, he was sorta the antagonist. Even him saying the thing about his dad not believing in him can be read as a manipulation tactic that Ally naively fell for. But I’m sure they were gonna do that anyway, since he did have moments of being nice to her in the pilot, and it just makes their relationship sweet
as someone who's experienced a friends to lovers romance this type of trope do escalate very quickly. for reference my bf n I were friends for 6 months before he kissed me for the first time, the next day was our first date. and a week after he asked me to be his gf. usually I like to take things slow but we already had a foundation n knew each other prior to getting together. so I find the progression from them getting together to their first date quite realistic. :)
I never liked Jimmy's character, he was too much business that he didn't feel human most of the time. What really got it for me was when he said Austin and Ally couldn't date, like was he seriously gonna ruin a guys career just because he wanted a love life
Yet he never have a problem with any of Austin's other girlfriends heck even his own daughter's relationship with Austin before Austin started dating Ally
i know you didnt mean it like this but its so funny how you mentioned this is what the kpop industry was like as if austin moon was an idol@@liriosrosados
I wasn't overly invested in them while the show was still airing because it was at the time I was aging out of my Disney Channel phase 😂, but they've definitely grown on me as a ship the more time's gone on 🥰. And while I agree the romantic aspect of their relationship could've been introduced more organically, I wasn't upset that there weren't any overt romantic undertones at first. It kind of felt more realistic that way 😂❤
1:20:00 you can totally know how to play instruments without theory or reading sheet music. Many musicians are like this. Untrained but incredibly skilled and talented. A real life example would be the beatles. They learned with no sheet music or theory.
Let me just say I remember the break between seasons 2 and 3 as awful and so painful because of the cliffhanger but the season 3 premiere was kinda frustrating because it took so long for them to get to each other. The way this show absolutely played with my emotions for years...
5:07 so, I'm assuming the reason he was being like this pretty much js sums up to the fact that since it was the pilot, maybe they didn't rlly know what to do with his character at that point? I mean, js a theory. He was kind of a jerk in this pilot, and sortve in the second episode to now that I think about it.. he rlly didn't feel like the same sweet guy he was in later episodes. Can you imagine if he was originally supposed to be more of a Chad Dylan Cooper like character? I feel like he mightve originally was supposed to be more egotistical and dickish but ross gave him too much golden retriever energy to buy like, try to imagine if be said "its okay, im an awesome drummer" in a different tone than in the scene. It would change so much
1:40:46 unprecedented because they did TWO unblocked kisses in one season (3) And then s4 doubles down with several unblocked kisses, PLUS s4 wasn't aired as a different show as Disney usually does to get out of extending the contract
one of my favourite ally/austin moments is when dez is filming them and they kiss, with dez in front of them and Trish says "they dont look unhappy with each other anymore" and dez (still infront of them turns and says "they dont do they?" 😘 And its just so cute! From the delivery to the kiss
austin and ally was my show!!! i remember seriously rooting for these two to get together and I was forced to watch them go through the ringer for five years just waiting for them to just tell each other how they feel. i like how they worked both as friends and as a couple, it really made the payoff worth it. i'm also glad they didn't make dez and trish a couple cause uh... 🤧
I watched this show when it aired and I don't know if it's the fact that I was a kid, or just the watching experience was different (when binging wasn't a thing) but the pacing issues you mentioned didn't stuck out to me at all. I felt like the romance wasn't rushed in the slightest, although when you watch those scenes back to back, it does feel like it. Austin and Ally are hands down my favorite Disney Channel ship of all time. As far as Disney Channel relationships go, I find them so healthy and lovely, Ross and Laura had good chemistry, and I'm a sucker for a good friends-to-lovers in general. Thank you for covering this ship! ❤
They’re “boring” how exactly

I agree about Dez and Trish but Trish and Chuck doesn't make much sense to me at all really
I agree, and was def a Raura shipper
@@radioactive_babylol right, when I saw that Trish and Chuck got together, I was in shock 😭
It probably would have been Sam x Freddie all over again.
Well said!
boy meets world has to be top 3 worst (cory alone is literally just … eughhhh🤢)
@@angel127_right!
We love to see it
gotta love hearing this but also watching the b plots happening in the backgrounds of the scenes like why are dez and trish wearing shrimp costumes

Didnt even realize that until now :)

I read somewhere the directors said austin and ally always was supposed to have the romantic plot line but not as soon (season 2) but then because of the fans they did it sooner.
thank you for sharing! that makes so much sense
That explains why they broke up so quickly they broke up in season 2 and got back together in season 3
Actually the showrunners of the show didn't have the idea of pairing Austin and Ally at first, but when the series was moving forward, it was Ross and Laura's chemistry that got the showrunners the idea to make them a couple.

One thing to notice about this pair is how good they were for each other. Not a lot of these Disney channel matchups show you people who influence each other for the better.

@@marklopez7775 Definitely "Guitars and Tsars"
my relationship standards feel so high and i fully blame that on this duo

ME TOO 😭
That is too true
Well you’ll find the right person. There are a lot of good people in this world. 👍🏾
ok but the fact that they made us watch 6 episodes of will they won’t they only to have them BREAK UP in the SAME EPISODE THEY FINALLY BECOME A COUPLE.
SERIOUSLY. LIKE. WHY DISNEY.
That made 9 year old me so mad lol (still does tbh,,)
@@nuclearcupcakes Still mad about it too
Yasssss literally.
Truer words have never been spoken and will never again be spoken.

I always rooted for them growing up, but watching your video made me appreciate them even more :)
as someone who was obsessed with this show as a kid, I do have a few tidbits I remember hearing about when I was 12:
-the creators of the show said at one point that they knew from the beginning that they wanted to end the show in a “how I met your mother” kinda way! so austin and ally were always going to end up together, though not sure if the plot was rushed due to demand
-I legit remember watching the episode where they kiss for the first time and genuinely being so excited that they liked each other and were gonna be together. I literally remember going to school the next day and all my friends being shook about it lol
-the twilight kiss was actually Laura’s first kiss and that episode was shot on Valentine’s Day lol
-there’s a video somewhere where Ross says that one of the A&A kisses was unscripted.

Me too! I remember seeing this music video on Disney Channel and this was the moment that sold it for me and made me ship them.
Just thank you so so
very very VERY MUCH
One of the reasons I think people complain about them being together is that Austin and Ally's relationship goes beyond that typical romantic duality i.e. alot of the time their build up was not explicitly romantic because the focus of the show was their partnership.
“Do you know what this means?”
“That you’re really nosy?” 😂
That’s actually exactly what I thought when I first heard that. Like bro she literally was on your head about reading her book last season. Where’s your head at?😂
Dez is such a great comedic character and the writing for him was on point.
Timestamp: 53:13 Dez is easily the funniest character 💀
The whole time I was screaming, "DON'T TOUCH HER BOOK!"
definitely one of my favorite disney channel ships, they had such a healthy relationship.
yup that’s true
I honestly forget that Austin, Ally, Trish, and Dez are all meant to be in high school because it’s such an afterthought of an aspect. Plus, with the high-jinxes that they get into from episode to episode without much consequence, they act more like college students
i mean i felt like they were barely in school lmao
The writers probably had to do that for the sake of Disney Channel but as a kid they always read more as adults to me
@@majeda_a honestly Austin & Ally is the only show where having school be in the background of the shows plot made sense
is because in all season 1 they are in summer
@@patsweet555 season 1 makes sense, but the rest of the show is set during the school year
It's honestly a crime they never did a crossover with Liv & Maddie, it was right there.
YES!! Dove and Ryan did guest star in Season 4, which makes it all the more frustrating lol. I want a crossover!!
There was the Halloween special where all the shows crossed over in New York but that doesn’t really count
the way I vividly remember both episodes 😂
i was thinking the same thing! jessie and l&m had one, and a&a had one with jessie, so we know they are all in the same universe but i wish they elaborated
Don't know why it was only Jessie that got all the crossover episodes lol
@@cosplayerqueen9878 oh i like that headcanon. it would make sense if it were like that
@@yoongituan thank you! And yeah, that's what I think too
@@cosplayerqueen9878 yea I completely agree with your thought process!!!

The prom episodes were some of my favorite because of that
Steal Your Heart is such a bop. I’m a dance teacher and used it for one of my classes’ recital dances.
Omg what is so crazy to me is that they look soooo young because I remember watching A&A when it first came out and they seemed so old to me because I was still a young teenager back then. Looking back at the series as an adult I only now realize how young they actually looked lol!
They WERE young wdym😭 they barley were turning like 19/20 in the last season and even then I think I'm upgrading their ages
I love how mature the characters in this show are. They’re goofy and act like teens but they have so much emotional maturity and I enjoy that about the show

Austin and ally are THE no 1 Disney ship for me, even though the buildup was bad when they were together they gave us ship content and there weren’t jealousy storylines and I just really appreciated that
there were actually a lot of jealousy storylines, they were just resolved pretty quickly
This is such an unimportant detail but I’ve always loved the way they hug each other

i just feel like they're such great characters and well develept, that it just sits right with me for them to end up together.

I'm almost sure that Noah Centineo wasn't a cameo, he wasn't famous or recognized at that point

Austin and Ally were definitely one of the healthiest Disney couples.
I also forgot how much of a sweetheart Austin was.
I love this show when I was younger. I love how they emphasized being friends first and the power of communication.
This is slowly becoming one of the more cozy nostalgia channels on youtube. Austin and Ally was one of the last shows I watched before deciding I was ready for "big kid" shows.
The second you said “the best song from the show” I about screamed “ITS STEAL YOUR HEART”
Honestly, I didn’t know that Austin and ally would end up couple when watched the show for the first time. But when they did, I was pretty excited! And honestly, their ship and the music from the series albums were the only reason I kept watching
Im so happy i was obsessed with their romance as a kid, much healthier than the ones that were shown during that time 😭
Also best duo songs!! Its hard not to love Austin and Ally
Si no se ve mucho en sitcoms
Considering most Disney shows last 3 or 4 seasons they had to kind of speed up the process a bit.
toxic I’m guessing includes stuff like cheating
@@noorbohamad5796 Sure. Alongside gaslighting, disregard of boundaries, physical violence, and lack of personal interest. Which, in many ways, are worse than cheating.
What a treat, 2 hours of ship content, thank you caitlin!!
I think part of the reason that the producers had their relationship develop so fast is that they weren’t originally supposed to have a 4th season and so they wanted to get in as much Auslly as they could
I’m convinced my love of this show and this ship is why my standards are a golden retriever boyfriend. Thank you Ross🫡
Omg 😂
HOWEVER, I wish we saw Ally do more for Austin sometimes and have more episodes revolving around her showing her love to him
Overall, I'm rambling but thanks for making this. I always love revisiting this ship.
i read the whole thing and i agree on a lot of your points!! but as for the “austin doing more for ally” thing, i believe its probably because ally is literally the one who kickstarted his career and continuously helped him. ally had no reason to become austin’s songwriter in the beginning so i always assumed he was probably just extremely grateful to her and always associated her with helping his dreams come true (which i believe makes him giving up his dream as a performer for her even more poetic). i’d also like to add that i think though austin is very generous, ally is very forgiving and understanding on the other hand. she forgives him for stealing her song, not showing up to the songwriting session in that one episode, or him pressuring her to write a song in that other one… but yes i do agree that austin was much more the sacrificial one but i would be lying if i said i didnt enjoy it as well 😭😭
@@shi2632 Austin's love language is acts of Service. Ally's is Physical touch.
And not those pesky Disney vocal nodules!
what do you mean by your comment’s very last line?
People almost seem to prefer opposites attract with enemies to lovers and maybe Auslly feels it’s somewhat of an exception
They’re the reason I’m so inlove with friends to lovers
i think one of the most amazing things about their relationship is that you get to see them in a partnership, and you get to see them learn HOW TO BE in a partnership. and that’s why you know that when they finally get to it, their relationship is gonna last
I think a reason they wanted Austin to be so nice and selfless toward Ally in season 1 is because his pilot episode self isn’t the most likable.
To be fair, Austin’s parents aren’t the brightest bulbs in the lamp. In fact, much like ally’s dad, they’re kind of lame
sounds like you mean to talk about the stuff that Caitlin said of about Austin’s mother I think
the last part I interpret as maybe sorta meaning idk lacking in personality maybe idk
@@noorbohamad5796 Austin’s mother was an example of the kind of parents they got on that show. The exception was allys mom who we only saw 3 times
@@michellecrocker2485 that's probably why they had her barely be present
@@xHeyItsCami cuz she wasn’t messed up like Austin’s mom. Gotta wonder what would have happened if the two had met
Take a shot every time Ally says ‘I feel the same way’
Or thanks austin

I never liked Jimmy's character, he was too much business that he didn't feel human most of the time. What really got it for me was when he said Austin and Ally couldn't date, like was he seriously gonna ruin a guys career just because he wanted a love life
sadly that’s exactly how the kpop industry works
Yet he never have a problem with any of Austin's other girlfriends heck even his own daughter's relationship with Austin before Austin started dating Ally
i know you didnt mean it like this but its so funny how you mentioned this is what the kpop industry was like as if austin moon was an idol@@liriosrosados

maybe except when
it comes to his daughter
I was so shocked when I learned some people didn’t like them together
I wasn't overly invested in them while the show was still airing because it was at the time I was aging out of my Disney Channel phase 😂, but they've definitely grown on me as a ship the more time's gone on 🥰. And while I agree the romantic aspect of their relationship could've been introduced more organically, I wasn't upset that there weren't any overt romantic undertones at first. It kind of felt more realistic that way 😂❤
I love that they started as friends and 0 romantics and just fell in love with how they feel around eachother.
1:20:00 you can totally know how to play instruments without theory or reading sheet music. Many musicians are like this. Untrained but incredibly skilled and talented. A real life example would be the beatles. They learned with no sheet music or theory.
I am still watching but I just have to say Dez and Trish are my absolute favorite Disney channel characters to ever exist.🤣
i never watched the show but this summary of their relationship makes me feel like this is the only couple i can believe were ACTUALLY inlove imo
It would change so much
1:40:46 unprecedented because they did TWO unblocked kisses in one season (3)
And then s4 doubles down with several unblocked kisses, PLUS s4 wasn't aired as a different show as Disney usually does to get out of extending the contract
one of my favourite ally/austin moments is when dez is filming them and they kiss, with dez in front of them and Trish says "they dont look unhappy with each other anymore" and dez (still infront of them turns and says "they dont do they?"
😘
And its just so cute!
