Lisa, This the best tutorial on chucking I've seen. The steps of carefully watching, feeling, closing eyes, slow down strums make so much sense! So perfect! I love the song choice!
I'm so glad! I have a private student in that age category and she is learning so fast, and doing a lot of old songs. Wagon Wheel is one of her favorite songs - which is covered in part 2 of this lesson on chucking.
Wow! That elevation change of the hand and showing the side view has helped me enormously. I am getting the chuck. Merci beaucoup, Lisa. You are z top!
Hello! I just want to thank you so much for this video. I have trouble seeing, and you were the only person who could explain how to chuck to me in a way I could understand. Thank you! I am going to be chucking happily along.
Just wanted to let you know that under your expert tutelage I am chucking along pretty well. Have incorporated it into quite a lot of songs, including King of the Road. Thank you!
So glad I could help you on your ukulele journey. Go to the second part for this video - th-cam.com/video/NUab8n1kxdE/w-d-xo.html I demonstrate with other patterns and songs.
Wonderful! It is a journey, a process. I remember working on my chuck. I also have a short on this. Since I did this video, I have come to realize that velocity also plays a role.
Hi, I am new to the uke, & have just found you on utube. The lesson on how to chuck is amazing, & I am already nearly chucking well, I'm looking forward to more of your lessons Thank you, Paul Lucas, U.K.
Happy to help! Are you one of my patrons? My patrons get 2 live Q and A and jam sessions a month plus all my chord charts for only $3 a month. You can cancel at any time. We have a wonderful community.
What a great tutorial. I love going slow and repeating so i get it down pat. Both beginner and intermediate players would have fun with this tutorial and song!
It always takes a while for me to get the hang of the chucking after not doing it for a short while. It comes back relatively quickly, but I wish it didn't go away to begin with!!
Very good Lisa! I can't wait for the sequel "Son of Chuck". The way I strum I find it very easy to Chuck. I actually have my pointer finger hanging out in mid air. I hold the tips of my thumb and my middle finger together as if I was holding a pick. Down strums I used my middle finger and the up strokes with my thumb. I then am able to chuck with either the down or up strum. PS . Did you want your location posted? I see it at the bottom left of the video. I don't think I've ever seen that on anybody's video before.
Thanks Henry - Yes, I did want my location posted. Who knows what will come of it. Everybody back home knows I am stuck here waiting for my passport so I can get back home.
Yippee. I am now at the point of more often than not hitting the chuck. In fact, I would say 80% of the time I am there. The only concern I have is that it doesn't seem to be as loudly as you achieve. Next time we have a jam (early June I think when I am back in the UK), I shall choose a song to lead where I can do the chuck and ask you if I am loud enough (and probably even if I am doing it right!)?
Sounds like a good plan. I know that it took me awhile to get the chuck to sound good and loud all the time. Cathy just shared an a-ha moment from the Build Me Up Buttercup lesson - When you chuck the more fingernails you have scraping the strings, the louder it sounds.
interesting. You don't seem to be twisting or turning your wrist when you strum or chuck? you are keeping your wrist/arm straight and moving from the elbow? I usually strum by twisting/turning by my wrist? which is the correct way to strum - your wrist doing the work or your elbow with a straight arm?
I don't twist my wrist. With any repetitive motion it is best to rely on big muscles. The entire forearm is used. Elbow with a straight arm is the the way to strum that is going to get you the most bang for the buck. The only time my wrist gets involved is in a tremolo strum.
Hard for me to tell without seeing it. I have been offering a monthly New to Uke Jam and question and answer session for all my $3 and above patrons. I have one Saturday - 6/26 at 4 pm EDT. www.patreon.com/theukulelefool
I totally get that. It takes persistence. I remember when I learned to chuck and I spent weeks just getting it to sound right most of the time. Get your favorite beverage, sit down and watch something dumb on TV and just chuck away for 20-30 minutes to get it engrained into your muscles.

Wow, thank you!
Thank you for sharing things with the world my 12-year-old granddaughter, loves your Channel

I think I'm finally getting it. Thank you! Now I need to learn how to incorporate it in songs.

Thank you for this amazing tutorial! My daughter would absolutely love this!
Love it! A very slow "walking"(especially for me!) but I am sure it is going to bring me to the destination! Thanks!
Glad to hear that! I know you will get it and I look forward to seeing you put it to use in one of your performances.
@@TheUkuleleFool thanks for teaching so well!
brilliant Lisa I Am Chucking Away.
Excellent. Keep on chuckin'!
What a great tutorial. I love going slow and repeating so i get it down pat. Both beginner and intermediate players would have fun with this tutorial and song!
Thanks so much. Glad it helped you.
Excelente aula! Segui com paciência e repetições e consegui fazer o Chuck. Thanks you.😘
I am so thrilled that I could help you master this fun technique.
It always takes a while for me to get the hang of the chucking after not doing it for a short while. It comes back relatively quickly, but I wish it didn't go away to begin with!!
Oh, I hear you on that!! Good observation.
I love to chuck. Still working on it but practicing a lot
It will come.
Definitely a Work In Progress!
Most definitely!
This is great, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment.
I know Chuck! He's a nice guy. Oh wait, you mean chucking, LOL. :) Good lesson, Lisa.
Thanks Andy! I like Chuck - he's one of my favorites - to strum that is.
Very good Lisa!

It's an Archimedes moment. Eureka! I have it. At present probably only 1 in 3, but that's better than 0 in 3!
Keep going!!

"i subscribed" this series has changed how i will be playing the uk
Fantastic. I love to chuck!
hmm when I play the G chord during my chuck sound still resonates from strings. How do I mute the G chord?

I highly recommend becoming a patron. You get so much bang for your buck! Totally worth it and you will become a better player.
I can do the chuck but I can not incorporate it into a song, even a simple song
It is a process. It took me weeks to master it, and I would just watch cooking shows and practice DU XU over and over.
tha DESPACITO SONG baby .. mister Beaver CAN'T BE wrong to get more likes ... com'on baby .. despacito ..
That's a good 4 chord song!!! Challenge accepted.
Louise, you are gorgeous. I love to see your tutorials.
I'm not particularly concerned about economy of motion - I just want to chuck!!! Still not there.
You will get it!
Wow that's frustrating.
