What is impressive about the Liverpool midfield is the running off the ball, particularly by Ray Houghton. And when they get the ball, does something good with it. The passing patterns and interplay amongst the players are sublime.
I remember this one. Ben a fan since 75' . Barnes and Rush where my favorites in this squad. Glad the club has s real chance to become champions in 2019. YNWA 😎
What a fantastic counter-attack for the 1st goal! I still remember this game watching it as a kid on TV. Still remember that last title win in 1990. Hope we win it this year.
Seriously, look at this run by Ray Houghton at 34:00 incredible run off the ball and of course not in vain, John Barnes gave him the ball. Anyone old enough to remember the 1982 world cup would recall the likes of Toninho Cerezo and Junior of Brazil making similar long diagonal runs into goal scoring or threatening positions. This is why Liverpool were operating at a higher level than other teams in Europe during this era. Incidentally, if Houghton showed this kind of initiative whilst playing for Jack Charlton in the Republic of Ireland, he probably have never played for Ireland again :-0 Jack Charlton was not into players taking the iniative and showcasing their talent.
Was there, paid on the day to get in!unbelievabley £2.75!Great atmosphere,as we fuckin hate each other !The games changed so much over the years,no atmosphere ,can’t swear ,can’t stand up,players paid silly money, bring back standing please
Thing that sticks in my mind about this game is we were coming to the rocket pub on the way home on the m62 and the players coach pulled alongside ours, we were all cheering and fist pumping them and they were all doing it back to us except for ronnie whelan who was sitting on his own at the very back looking well pissed off, that spectacular own goal he scored must have left him well gutted 😂😂😂
I was in the scoreboard end above the lower tier Liverpool fans as a Liverpool fan. Thanks to Stuart and Pat Foy who gave me their season ticket that day as her husband had gone blind and could not go to the game. This was my first United v Liverpool game.
Ralphie: the worst player I've ever seen at OT. The future looked like one of continuous failure for us; continuous success for you. Still, match going was better all round.
On the turnout, was the scoreboard terrace not always full for these games? I didn't start going regularly until a bit later and always assumed these games were all ticket sell-outs, at least for away fans.
No offense but Liverpool especially in the second half made United look like a pub team in this game. I have to say you're a classy United fan, seen lots of your comments on other uploads & your always very honest & humble, fair play to you. Must have been great for you to see the big turnaround in the early 90's & watch your team dominate for so long.
We binned him off to Hibs, where his career recovered, and he became Scotland's footballer of the year and played in the '98 World Cup. Edit: I was wrong about him winning player of the year. And we sold him to Dundee, after which he went to Hibs.
@@luthfur1970 That was Les Sealey who passed away many years ago. Les came in for Jim in th 1990 FA cup final replay and played most if not all of the 1990 / 91 season including the cup winners cup final v Barcelona
@@luthfur1970 Sadly Les was only 43 when he died of a heart attack, he might have been still registered as a player when it happened, he played for a lot of teams including West Ham, he was from the East End of London. But at least there is a good memory of him winning important cup competitions and launching the Ferguson era. If Utd lsot that replay most likely Ferguson might have been sacked; which is amazing to think that was a distinct possibility back in 1990.
Sunday afternoon. Brian Moore in the commentary box. Packed away end. This was football!

I remember watching this game live on the tv back in 1990!
Thanks for upload...remember watching this as an 8 year Liverpool fan and my hero was John Barnes...this was a good day

I remember recording it on VHS and writing "JINX OF THE 90s" on the sleeve in black marker pen.
I so miss the sound of the great Brian Moore's voice on a Sunday afternoon
He was the voice of football
John Barnes running the show ,what a class player !

Brilliant upload, brings back great memories, Digger running the show! 👊⚽⚽
This was on my 12th Birthday, great prezzie
That's the best own goal I've ever seen! Fantastic football back then ...you knew every player from every team ...
John Barnes would definitely slot into a modern day Jurgen Klopp team.
He'd be the star player.
So would Beardsley and few others
@@michaelmurphy9132 Barnes, Beardsley, McMahon, Whelan, Hoooton ...
It would go on to be more than a decade later before liverpool won at old trafford again in 2000.

Exquisite finish by Whelan. Has an OG ever been nominated for goal of the month/season I wonder?
It was best own goal I seen.

Will they be punished they ARE by John Barnes!
1-0!
A great day at OT....Barnesy beyond superb - a bit hot outside.
Fantastic game no rolling around on the floor like girls ..... proper professionals.
Oh Ronnie .. always got spectacular goals v United 😬
My first liverpool game

Nice story
thumbs up to the cameraman for following the ball into the net for the first goal. Lovely little touch!
The class difference was obvious in this match; we had a long way to go. Good turnout by your fans, too.
Our worst team since 1974. I was genuinely worried we'd be relegated. Dark times; I wanted Fergie out.

You used to bring about 4,000 officially. However, your fans were dotted around the ground in the United sections. E and K Stands, particularly.

Another reds classic, but i'd love to see A.i applied to these older vids.
First united v Liverpool game
Big Jim Leighton is a legend
At Aberdeen yes.
Possibly the last season that united fielded an all British team🤔
watever happend to big jim leighton anyone know
