I always wondered why Talonflame, one of the kings of Gen 6 OU, didn't keep Blaziken in check? I suppose it was because Talon was also a decent partner for it as well, because Talon's scaring it out wasn't that big of a deal, especially since Talon couldn't really sweep through non weakened teams
Talonflame is also very frail so despite it resisting Blaziken's STAB combination, it couldn't switch in too often, especially if Stealth Rock was up. Thunder Punch would one shot if it tried to come in. Talonflame was a mere check, not a counter.
Stealth Rock weakness + fraility means Talonflame is at like 20% health tops switching in on a STAB move, and completely gone if Blaziken uses Stone Edge or Thunder Punch. Roost won't save you, as you could just hit it with a HJK as it loses its Flying-type

A lot of people are talking about how it can get destroyed on switch-in, by thunder punch or stone edge or anything else. Just swap into something that can wall brave bird and flare blitz (hard, but obviously talonflame wasn't good for no reason) and then send Blaziken in again later and do it again. Talonflame is more susceptible to chip than Blaziken because of it's stealth rock weakness and it's best moves doing recoil damage. It does have roost, but overall this is why talonflame was a check and not a counter. With other sweepers, if you run an item like sash or shell smash with a white herb you only get that one chance for the best setup and it's pretty unlikely you'll get a boost again. Great video, but will have to disagree with its viability in ubers. It's always been a suboptimal to outright bad pick in oras ubers and beyond, where in black and white it didn't see much usage even on sun teams, and these days is not run on sun at all.
@@Kali_Krause i know that its still good i just wanna see a vid about it cuz it has stayed good in like every gens OU while other gen 1 mons have fallen off
Even more interesting thing about it is that it faced the opposite effect of most early gen pokemon with power creep, starting off being outright unviable in early generations and overall very unimpressive until gen 4 gave it the gift of the physical special split and gen 5 gave it Multiscale. It did start to fall off a little around gen 6 to 7 because of fairies and megas, but it still had its place in the meta. The introduction of HDB in gen 8 brought it back to being a strong mon, but gen 9 is probably the most powerful it has been yet, with Tera Normal turning it into a mini-ESpeed Arceus. Overall, just a weird case of a mon starting off unimpressive and then getting tools that make it more and more powerful until it has become one of the most powerful, meta-defining threats that it is today.
It just got good stuff every gen Gen 5 gave it multiscale Gen 6 gave it more defoggers so it can keep multiscale even with hazards Gen 7 gave it Z moves to nuke mons Gen 8 gave heavy duty boots so hazard removal isnt even needed Gen 9 gave it tera normal so it can sweep with stab extreme speed
Can you do a video on the best pseudo legendary (not including megas)? Dragonite is a gen 1 pokemon that is still relevant in gen 9 OU despite over 20 years of powercreep and not getting any love from Gamefreak in the form of a mega or Gmax form. Garchomp is a gen 4 pokemon that I have never seen drop below OU. It has always found a place in every OU metagame. It's one of the most versatile pokemon I've ever seen, having sets that let it be a revenge killer/late game sweeper with Choice Scarf, wall breaker with Swords Dance or even a physical tank with Rocky Helmet. And it still has space for Stealth Rocks on all these sets to make it a hazard setter. Dragapult is a newer pseudo legendary boasting very high speed, almost un-resisted STAB combination and a wide move pool letting it pivot and sweep using a physical or special move set. Plus a dark type nerf in the move Pursuit being deleted means Dragapult and other Ghost types are a lot stronger in the recent generations. I personally believe one of these 3 are the best. I'm leaning towards Chomp the most tbh. All the other pseudos have dropped from OU and are now UUBL, UU or below. I haven't played any gen 9 at all so I don't know anything about the new pseudo.
i run blazekin on a few teams. air balloon, flare blitz, thunder punch, close combat, swords dance. really good closer. i havent used him in gen 9 at all
This might be the hottest of hot takes but I think it would have been worth it to test Blaziken in OU in gen 7. Mega should still be banned for obvious reasons, but I think that its frail enough to be dealt with by opposing priority and Z moves
I think that gen 8 is the first gen where he would have been workable, gen 6 it would still have been WAY too much since Talonflame revenge killing isn't that reliable of a strat (especially now that Talonflame fell off) and Mega Slowbro is quite niche. Gen 7 it would have been more palatable definitely with the Toxapex and Tapu Fini etc but it would still have been really tough to handle for the tier (but I agree that at least it's the first generation where testing it could be conceived as there are arguments, I don't think it would have stayed but you could at least make an argument that the defensive power creep had somewhat catches up to it
Joey is working on a new script which he will send to me for a video later this week :) He clearly enjoyed making the educational scripts so expect many more to come. Thank you for watching.
True but I edited the parts joey mentioned like aqua jet and scald but included thunderpunch and battle animation out of my own free will. The battle should be taken as a filler to watch and enjoy while joey talks, not to taken too seriously. I mean Blaziken arm also doesn't launch like a rocket. Thank you for watching
Blaziken has been my favourite starter since I got Ruby back when I was 4. I was really happy when it dropped from Ubers in Gen 8 and I was able to use it in competitive
What i dont understand is that why was the ability speed boost wasn’t banned, instead of blaziken itself. It has another usable ability, so they could just ban the ability, of course mega blaziken would still be banned, because it only has one ability
Sooo the answer's power creep. No surprise there. I'm worried about some kind of critical threshold being overtaken, where there's no point in running anything except hyper offense anymore and the entire game becomes a sacfest Day 124 asking for the Choice Band Reuniclus meme

Great video, but will have to disagree with its viability in ubers. It's always been a suboptimal to outright bad pick in oras ubers and beyond, where in black and white it didn't see much usage even on sun teams, and these days is not run on sun at all.
I love these Joey
this series is so much better than the other one
God tier thumbnail 😂
Im interested in Dragonite cuz despite being around since gen 1, it has stayed relevant despite powercreep
Dragonite is in the top 10 for gen 9 OU. It is the 4th most used pokemon in OU because of Tera Normal Dragonite
It just got good stuff every gen
Gen 5 gave it multiscale
Gen 6 gave it more defoggers so it can keep multiscale even with hazards
Gen 7 gave it Z moves to nuke mons
Gen 8 gave heavy duty boots so hazard removal isnt even needed
Gen 9 gave it tera normal so it can sweep with stab extreme speed
the funny thing is that all this happened because Blaziken was outclassed by Infernape during everything in the gen 4 meta
Meanwhile Feraligatr: *You guys are getting appearances?*
I would like to see a vid about how tyranitar and it’s fall off somewhat
It shocks me that blaziken is so slow without speed boost
does anyone know the name of the youtuber in 7:04
Blaze kickin' Chicken 😂 Joey you go so hard
Hydreigon was the reason fairy types even existed
Best is def coming! Tho i gotta include megas haha
Dragapult is nuts now. Tera ghost Tera Blast just allowed it run good physical STAB
I want it to become broken again. I like your support for Blaziken
really expected chicken on a balloon to make a cameo at the end but I see how it is, we do a little revisionist history
Unbanned Blaziken 10 years.
Same time free "El Chapo" scape from prision Almoloya Ö
Chapo is a beta cuck chump all narcos should be hanged and display their corpses as a cutionary tale.
i run blazekin on a few teams. air balloon, flare blitz, thunder punch, close combat, swords dance. really good closer. i havent used him in gen 9 at all
Basically Blazekien is more like a superhero that can take down anyone
This might be the hottest of hot takes but I think it would have been worth it to test Blaziken in OU in gen 7. Mega should still be banned for obvious reasons, but I think that its frail enough to be dealt with by opposing priority and Z moves
No boots + pursuit trapping and blaziken having a zmove is still too much for OU. We did room tournaments with blaziken allowed, he’s broken
I think that gen 8 is the first gen where he would have been workable, gen 6 it would still have been WAY too much since Talonflame revenge killing isn't that reliable of a strat (especially now that Talonflame fell off) and Mega Slowbro is quite niche. Gen 7 it would have been more palatable definitely with the Toxapex and Tapu Fini etc but it would still have been really tough to handle for the tier (but I agree that at least it's the first generation where testing it could be conceived as there are arguments, I don't think it would have stayed but you could at least make an argument that the defensive power creep had somewhat catches up to it
Great vids aim! I really like the context since taking time off the franchise from Ruby to BDSP
Can we get more vids like this? Plz?
Joey is working on a new script which he will send to me for a video later this week :) He clearly enjoyed making the educational scripts so expect many more to come. Thank you for watching.
I love these videos Joey, thanks for giving us amazing content 😁
Gotta love blakiken. That crazy chicken be putting holes in other pokemon like kung pow.
From Uber to not OU viable, yikes
Try Celebi, thing went from Ubers in Gen 2 to RU last gen lmao
Now just imagine if its mega had gotten tough claws... oh god...
Now Blaziken is in Gen 9. Whatever will it do to break everything now?
greninja nerfs discussion please
Blaziken is my favorite mon imagine my shock when 13 yo me hopped on showdown during gen 6 and saw him banned from ou
Blaziken is forever my favorite pokemon
4:09 why use thunderpunch against azumarill when hi jump kick is stronger
jellicent sure but not azumarill - this is gen 5, so no fairy yet
True but I edited the parts joey mentioned like aqua jet and scald but included thunderpunch and battle animation out of my own free will. The battle should be taken as a filler to watch and enjoy while joey talks, not to taken too seriously. I mean Blaziken arm also doesn't launch like a rocket. Thank you for watching
In summery, Mega Ultra Chicken is Legend.
0/10 you didn't make a chicken in a balloon reference
Itd be kinda nasty if it was able to learn Power Trip
This god like thumbnail 😂
this is my fav pokemon and im happy to see its amazing and can be used to some extent now
Blaziken has been my favourite starter since I got Ruby back when I was 4. I was really happy when it dropped from Ubers in Gen 8 and I was able to use it in competitive
What i dont understand is that why was the ability speed boost wasn’t banned, instead of blaziken itself. It has another usable ability, so they could just ban the ability, of course mega blaziken would still be banned, because it only has one ability
why is pokemon from older generations illegal in ou for certain generations for example why cant i use swampert in ou gen 9?
Great script
The visuals are a little overkill tho
1:20 what is that game?
That is a footage took from Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness with Shadow Lugia in it.
I cant wait for Megas to High Ladder and BL Knights to return!!
(2:14) I guess Protect does not counter High Jump Kick effectively.
Not in singles!
It does, but there's very little reason to use Protect in singles otherwise.
finally, someone with my love of the flame chicken himself 🐓🔥 BLAZE GANG
Also dragapult help keep it in check
Sooo the answer's power creep. No surprise there. I'm worried about some kind of critical threshold being overtaken, where there's no point in running anything except hyper offense anymore and the entire game becomes a sacfest
Day 124 asking for the Choice Band Reuniclus meme
