I went through a period of wearing almost no makeup except for lip balm and a little mascara because I was too busy cuddling and kissing my babies to worry about getting makeup on them. I also stopped wearing my wedding rings for a while because I was afraid they would be scratch by my rings. My babies are 23 and 20 now, and I am currently wearing a Prada lipstick I love and several rings. I regret nothing and cherish all the different phases of my life. There is a season for everything!
Just wrote something very similar! I had a whole renaissance with beauty post empty nest. One bcuz my needs changed with age, and two, bcuz it’s the first time I’ve had the combination of finances & ability to put my wants before anyone else’s needs.
You know what’s funny is that I totally felt this at different stages in my life, usually when I had other big things I was focused on. New motherhood was def in particular - I really think that the first 2 yrs at least we are in the baby fog, not in a bad way at all, but there’s def sense that once our youngest turns 2-3, we kind of look around and remember ourselves and rediscover interests that are just for us. And then also, once we are in the empty nest phase, it’s another big shift. I’m 51 now, & I was a young mom and my latest dive into beauty products happened in my late 40’s. There’s also just how much our skin and beauty needs change with physical changes (menopause is intense AF!), and the hunt for new products to complement/match that. So yeah, there’s been cycles, and currently I have the biggest collection I’ve ever had, and sometimes I go weeks with the basics but then I also really just love playing when i do. And there’s something about being able to put my wants before anyone else’s needs that’s sooo enjoyable!
I appreciate just, the acknowledgement you can love something without needing to defend the why. I've had that recently where I had to admit to myself I just, love lipstick. I was OBSESSED with finding my one, signature lipstick and that's just not me. I don't wear them all and some only for like, one month of the year but dang it I love having such pretties.
yes!! hannah has such a wonderful and HONEST balance between practicality and pure enjoyment. i’ve found that other declutter content just doesn’t hit the same compared to these!
I was the same way when my kids were babies, I barely wore makeup for years because I was always rubbing my face against their faces and didn’t want to worry about it. I’m happy to report they are three and five now, and I can wear a full face again and have some of my life back. Or maybe I’m a bit sad to report that 🥹. Congratulations and great video
Knowing that I'm just totally bored with all my lippies, I told myself "no new buys" in that category for the year, unless I need a bare balm with SPF later in spring or summer. Then a Sephora sales clerk tossed a Giorgio Armani Lip Power satin bullet in shade 104, a milky beige that I'd never buy for myself, into my bag at the fall sale, and I have a whole new collection. Everything I own looks great on top of this. I never would have believed just one item could reignite dead interest, but I can be wrong once in awhile and it's great! Thanks for the video, and Happy Motherhood!
A few vaguely related thoughts: If I want to wear an intense lip color, I usually apply it before blush or eyes for the exact reason you mentioned. But I also almost never actually wear any make up. This winter I've been wearing nothing BUT a lip color just because my lip balms are all at least a little tinted. I was actually a little disappointed with merit lip oil because it wasn't as moisturizing as the kosas lip oil, which I know you said was more like an old-school lip gloss. I wonder if I actually like lip gloss, despite assuming I didn't like lip gloss texture for years. Finally, love that the main barrier for lipstick wear is that you just keep kissing your baby. As far as trade-offs that come with parenthood, that one seems fair.
I did a lipstick declutter during the COVID lockdown. I’m down to six lipsticks and I wear them all. Turns out 6 is the magic number, I can always find one that works with whatever I’m wearing or doing. I like I can find the one I want quickly and easily.
I really relate to "having a collection small enough that I'll actually use." I no longer want a lot of things but I do want to open my makeup drawer and have each lip product in it be something I really love. In the spirit of that I've finally committed to a no buy this year in the hopes that by the end of 2024 my collection will be whittled down/I'll really come to know what I love and what I don't! Wish me luck haha
This declutter series has been a real changing of the guard, but in a good way. To see the last vynilic lip and the last zeesea dragon go with so little angst was more sweet than bittersweet, which feels like a lovely evolution.
If you have a special/beautiful/nice tactile quality lipstick package but don't use the product, I say keep the package and refill it with something you use all the time (even a cheap clear balm!) And enjoy using your special little thing more often! I've done it and it makes me happy every time I use it 😊 very easy to melt & freeze, and even mix colors you'll wear better.
That’s so interesting that one of your Lisa Eldridge lipsticks is broken. I have had several of them break on me. Customer Service is more than kind about offering to send a replacement, but I don’t want another one! That is so wasteful. I suggested to them that they Tweak the formula or change the packaging since they are so notorious for breaking. I googled it and it’s not just us! As much as I love the colors and formula, I won’t buy another until I know the issue is fixed.
Hannah I LOVE your videos. I saw the dragon lipstick and instantly thought "that would look amazing as a collectible on a shelf!" How cool would it be to be a classy grey fox with a handful of "vintage" beauty bits!
Yes! Another thought is that as a child, my mom's lipsticks (and perfume bottles, esp minis) were such an obsession for me, I would treasure these items! So... Not to encourage hoarding... But.. Keeping a few special pieces for your kid to admire is a nice idea I think!
Vicious indeed! Your comment on the Jones Road Miracle Balm reminded me - I have started splitting things like lid lustres / cream eyeshadows / blush etc with my sister. I know I won't use them up totally before they go off, so I put half into a tiny glass jar (amazon do loads), compress them down & give them to her. The consistency of all of them has remained fine, nothing has dried out, the only issue is getting big brushes into little pots. Those Miracle Balms - you could do whole sets for a dozen people with the amount in each tub!
"Luxuriously practical" is such a beautiful mood. I am rearranging my study space (after watching a bunch of Dear Modern videos, haha) and I want this for my remaining time at this location. 😊
You're right about the miracle balm size! I'm about to pick up the Jones Road bronzer, and if they sold a mini miracle balm I'd totally try some, but I am NOT committing to that giant tub. It'd make me feel too guilty!
I have bought Rouge quad because your review spiked my interest and I wear it constantly. I travel a lot lately and it is great to have 4 colors to choose if I take only that with me. I also have MAC lip brush with a cap so it is handy for touch up on the go. I normally apply it with my fingers but I need brush when my fingers are no longer considered clean. Great product and, for me, incredibly practical.
The make serum balm intense settled in your lip lines! That is why it is so unused in comparison to the non intense version. I remember you sharing that at one point and I felt so seen after trying to make that product work for me for months only to have that same issue each time!
Oh my goodness I totally felt the same way when I had my babies. Lipstick, even a tinted lip balm, seemed to get in the way of loving on my babies. And then when my babies turned 18 months and they were giving me kisses I felt like all makeup got in the way of that lol cuz I wanted them to kiss me and I wanted to snuffle their faces and tummies and I didn't want to worry about what products on my face were getting in their mouths or on their sensitive baby skin. It's just a change in season in life and with my last baby I finally tried leaning into that season instead of trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole. Later in life I'll have a round peg again but right now it's doing me a better service leaning into my square peg than ignoring or forcing it like I had done before. Anyway. Your doing great! I love to see change cuz it helps motivate me to lean I to my own style and life changes too❤
This is total inspiration for me to go upstairs RIGHT NOW and do the same with my collection of lip products. Too overwhelming when the amount of our products take over our vanity area. Thank you, Hannah!!! xox
Love this 🙌 I did the same thing when I had my baby and trust me, by the time they are a little older you will get back to wanting to wear your makeup the way you used to. I’m glad I kept some of my favorite makeup products even though I don’t wear them as often as I used to. This might sound insanely simple and doesn’t *really* have the same effect as the City Lips plumper, but whenever I feel like my lips need a little “oomph” I just use a lip scrub. It gets the blood flowing, naturally making the lips a little plumper and more vibrant in color, and it exfoliates, getting all the little flakies out of the way. Plus they are usually made with sugar and taste amazing 😛
This is incredibly relatable and I love that you said it. Lipstick is definitely my favorite face accessory, if you like, but I too have babies and I am always kissing on them... Having on lipstick, or any lip product, gives me pause on doing that because of course I don't want to leave pigment all over my babies' faces! So I just haven't been wearing much lipstick at all for the past couple of years... Anyway, I haven't heard any other mother talk about this, so I appreciate hearing it from you, haha.
I’d love to see a new no-buy video from you. I’m on a six month no - buy and you are the best of the best when it comes to videos on the topic. Good video for the new year and it’s been awhile since you’ve addressed it. Also, I’m sad to see you declutter the glossier mango balm. They changed the formula and I’ve used mine all up because I love it so much ! Ahhh… such is life 💄😹
Check out Shawna Ripari. She is equally well spoken and her content is leaning more contentment/no buy adjacent than where Hannah has settled (no hate to Hannah, her niche on TH-cam has just evolved over the years).
@@Wanda-v4b thanks for the tip ! Hannah has really said it all when it comes to no buy so I figured it would be a long shot to ask. She’s my favorite no matter the subject. I’m excited to check out Shawna for some inspiration and words of encouragement 🌺
I love the way your mind works! I find it so inspiring and also...comforting? In that, while I too have been making an effort to keep my makeup collection pared down (from it's 2016-2020 heights) there is argument for keeping possessions that maybe aren't frequent use items yet still bring us joy. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Add in too that I'm always mighty chuffed whenever I see your chosen shades knowing I'm not the only one who loves browns and greys. Thanks as always for another great video!
Ive been binging your content from 2021 and 2022, and I just keep clicking on more under the one I'm watching, so that I can put it in my history and watch that video next. That's the way I spent my Christmas holidays, and it was such great therapy to stop me from shopping the Christmas and New Year's sales. Thank you, Hannah. I also saw this video at the top of my feed and clicked immediately
I know you say this but I think it’s being a new mom not the size of your makeup collection keeping you from wearing makeup 🤣 speaking from experience ❤❤ I did want my makeup when I came out of the haze of babyland. In fact, reclaiming something as personal and simple as putting my face on helped me come back into my body. It helped remind me of who I was before “mom” and who I’ll always be- “mom” included. I’m a mom who loves makeup.
It's so funny how our preferences can shift so quickly. I used to value having a variety of colors but nowadays I use like 5 lip balms in various shades of brown and yes there's repetition, but I use and love all of them for different reasons and I'm far more comfortable with using a lot of the same kind of thing than having a variety and most of them are rotting away. Doing a No Buy Year and something unexpected happened- I thought watching this would make me want to acquire more beautiful things, but really it just made me want to declutter even more and really just use up those perfect 5 brown lip balms.
You made me buy the Nars afterglow lip balm, it's one of the two lip products I own and I use it every day because it is so nourishing. I definitely do not buy too many makeup products. Doing a no buy 2024 because of clothes shopping though 🤷♀️
Very interesting thought process of yours. I remember looking for the perfect nude and the perfect red for myself and couldn't find anything that felt just right. There were many "close to it" products but none that were "THIS is it" products. Eventually I bought a straight up peach pink lipstick and it just looked like a very beautiful nude shade on my lips and a coral red lipstick that turned out to be my perfect shade of red. I wasn't trying to find my nude and my red when I bought those, I was just liking the colors. Typical nudes always look weird on me and typical reds are overpowering, so these two products really work like a charm for me. Sticking to products with similar colors really is my way to go since then. Peach and coral (either coral pink for a pink lip or coral red for a red lip) and I am finally happy with the lip products I got at home.
I'm home from a lot of (great amazing) travel, brought low by a (not covid) bug, and catching up with all your declutters are giving my low energy tea sipping soup having blanket lump self comfort and life.
I love Chantecialle lippies and Nars lip balms and I couldn't agree more with Jones Road in the smaller container. In terms of L'Oreal lipsticks, yes, they are disgusting indeed. I also love your approach to removing items that clutter your life and how you navigate through the process. Thanks so much for all you do.
I cannot stand the smell of L’Oréal lipsticks they are atrocious. Which sucks because their formulas are actually really lovely. But the smell makes me nauseous. Ugh.
I purchased the Rouge quad after watching your review of it. It is one of my most used lip products, and I also use it on my cheeks and eyes. It’s a keeper!
After having tried both, the merit formula and the Lisa Eldridge Luxurious Lucent formula, I will say that Lisa Eldridge has the upper hand for me. Her formula is so lightweight and sophisticated. Also very different from her own velvets.
I have a 10 month old baby boy and I loveee lip products but struggle to want to put any on lately because I just want to kiss his cheeks all day long! Truly the best dilemma to have 🥰
I don't know if you've ever played the video game "Unpacking" - there's no decluttering in it per say but it IS a game all about organizing, and the way you line up stuff has the same sort of satisfaction. It's very soothing.
I don’t mind the L’Oréal lipstick smell; the one that drives me nuts is the scent in Maybelline lipsticks. They smell exactly like Playdough. Such a shame because they are great colors with a great formula. Happy new year!
HLP - I would appreciate a review of Victoria beckam’s (sp?) new lipstick line. I think it’s called Posh lipstick. I have a completely different complexion from you - and I’m older than you - but I really appreciate your makeup reviews. Thank you!! Happy New Year!!
Well done!! So amusing that I loved this video so much when I have decluttered down to two and since, thanks to your influence, I’m on a No Buy Year so the only thing I’ll do this year is replace those when necessary. And I should add, when I say two, I mean two so called lipsticks, glosses, balms etc. aren’t included. 😂
I love L'Oréal colors, but that perfume scent in the majority of their lipsticks is just so overwhelming, and it doesn't seem to fade. I get that it's their signature, but man, just make it a perfume already and take it out of the makeup.
What I’m about to say completely contradicts the spirit of this video- but if you want to try another product like the Kosas lip balm, the Naturium ones are fantastic and they just came out with a bunch of browns/neutrals that are really beautiful. My favorite of the bunch is the dark brown… gives just enough color to notice but is still super nourishing. ❤❤
Hi Hannah please i want to ask you for a favor, can you try if the single eyeshadows from clionadh can fit in the lisa eldridge eyeshadow palette case and thank you so much 🥰
I used to be more of a bold lip girly but now I'm a bold eye girly and have had to come to terms with it. I still have a lot of lipstick because I have the space and no one to pass it on to but I have stopped buying lip products.
Hi Hannah. I would LOVE to try the Merit lipsticks but unless I order directly from their website or through E-Bay or that sort of website, it is difficult to acquire Merit products in the UK. The colours are so unique and sounds like the formula is good.. I am happy that at least I can acquire the Lisa Eldridge lip products for unique colours, and oddly or luckily?? enough have not had any breakage from them. Ribbon is my perfect red from her.
@@freyataylor3042 I guess I have enough accounts without adding yet another to my list, but thanks for letting me know that, @freyataylor3042 . Perhaps I will weaken and give Merit a try....
Great collection! I don’t like sticky gloss that the first wind comes by and your hair sticks immediately. I have been using conditioning skincare balms. Much better. Lawless is great.
looking at what you started with and realizing that if i were to declutter, your start might be my end lol. yeeeeeeeeah i got a problem. luckily the VAST majority of what i own is all drugstore/asian so not a bunch of expensive stuff in my collection but holy cow i probably have double what you started with if not more. ETA don't get me started on the smell/taste of l'oreal lipsticks. it low-key enrages me whenever i see a color i love on someone and they tell me it's l'oreal because it's an instant no for me specifically because i cannot get past those things.
Interesting…I’m also fair olive (not quite as fair as Hannah) and I have a bit of struggle with the Lisa Eldridge lipstick colors - I find most of the pinks and “nudes” go too peach on me. The best ones that do flatter my complexion are Jazz, Midnight (as a stain), Night Thoughts and Painterly. I do ok with Sorcery and Delilah gloss as well. The others like blush, muse and affair really depend on the season and the tone of my hair - in winter more of them look off on me. My suspicion is always that they are not “true” enough colors and have too much white and yellow in them to look right on my desaturated skin tone. It’s so frustrating because they all look so gorgeous on Lisa.
I can really appreciate the feeling of not wanting wear a bold lipstick when kissing my kids a million times a day. Sometimes I would wear lipstick if I went for a walk with them to get a coffee or run errands, and only really got back into it when I went back to work. Also at some point they just don’t want to be kissed that often 😅
I'm trying to just stick to my lip/cheek options (RMS Lip to Cheek as well as Manasi7). I've decluttered 95% of all my dedicated lippies and kept 3 Bobbie Brown lipglosses and a few RMS serum lipsticks. My new thing is if if one comes in, something has to go out.
I love this! I feel like all waters are lapping at our toes to be tested 😊 I think that's why I love Hannah LP, Kackie, HauteMessTom and Rachel Ellen Rose's content, I feel they expand into being themselves rather than contract into content creator cliches. May all lapping waters be tested ❤
When will manufacturers learn that fragrance is such a double-edged additive? I feel like it’s become a big thing for me-products that I otherwise love get decluttered because I can’t handle smelling a scent all day.
This title alone is a perfect counterbalance to the “new year, new you” messaging in January.
I went through a period of wearing almost no makeup except for lip balm and a little mascara because I was too busy cuddling and kissing my babies to worry about getting makeup on them. I also stopped wearing my wedding rings for a while because I was afraid they would be scratch by my rings.

the dragon lipstick is soo pretty, I could never part with it 😅
Wonderful. Nothing hits like an HLP declutter. ❤

I love the clinking noise during the speed up but also seeing your lip collection 😍
This was so therapeutic for me today. Thank you, Hannah.
Wow, this was more than I expected. And, I respect your decisions either way.

I’m excited to check out Shawna for some inspiration and words of encouragement 🌺
the juvias place colors are all beautiful!!!
Obsessed with lip products. A very good declutter. It’s always great to keep and own the products that you will find yourself reaching for each time
I love the way your mind works!
That was ruthless, but the result looks amazing!
I know you say this but I think it’s being a new mom not the size of your makeup collection keeping you from wearing makeup 🤣 speaking from experience ❤❤
I did want my makeup when I came out of the haze of babyland. In fact, reclaiming something as personal and simple as putting my face on helped me come back into my body. It helped remind me of who I was before “mom” and who I’ll always be- “mom” included. I’m a mom who loves makeup.
I did enjoy this lip declutter!
Loooooove this. Your declutters always make me sit and admire my makeup collection 😂
You are one brave soul! I would never part with that beautiful dragon lipstick! I know in my heart I don’t have so much power 😂
I’m forever looking for lipsticks & glosses.
So many are flavored with that “hollow” vanilla or highly perfumed - looking at you, L’Oréal.
I blasted through the make serum balm in nude nova so quickly! It's such a great formula. You did great Hannah!
Hannah , my cat is lying next to me in bed & keeps crowding me out of my iPad screen so he can watch your video 😂
The best thing with the Nars Afterglow Lip Balms is that the pigment doesn't settle in your lines, it makes them look smooth and perfected... 😎✌🏼
I need to try them! I’m concerned too only because I tend to love Nars lip products and if I like that one too my wallet is in trouble….😂
The shade devotion has become my favorite thing
I'm home from a lot of (great amazing) travel, brought low by a (not covid) bug, and catching up with all your declutters are giving my low energy tea sipping soup having blanket lump self comfort and life.
Thank you for making your playlists so easy to navigate. 💋
Ugh.
Seriously! For being such a giant company, L’Oréal can afford to make the smell better in their lipsticks. It’s ridiculous
L'Oreal's traditional bullet lipsticks seem to all have the same signature fragrance!
I purchased the Rouge quad after watching your review of it. It is one of my most used lip products, and I also use it on my cheeks and eyes. It’s a keeper!
Always so amazing to see what’s left
After having tried both, the merit formula and the Lisa Eldridge Luxurious Lucent formula, I will say that Lisa Eldridge has the upper hand for me. Her formula is so lightweight and sophisticated. Also very different from her own velvets.
I have a 10 month old baby boy and I loveee lip products but struggle to want to put any on lately because I just want to kiss his cheeks all day long!
Truly the best dilemma to have 🥰
On going admiration for your endeavors to maintain civility while allowing for creativity and doing what you love! 🙏🏼🦋❤️
If you keep the Kjer Weiss lip balm container the clear is fantastic, very nourishing.
So looking forward to watching this as soon as I get home 🎉
this is such a good video, love your thought process
Perfection, Hannah! Thank you
Best declutter vid I’ve watched!
Not the Ami Cole! My fave lip product, influenced by you. Happy new year 🥰🎉
Long-time subscriber but I just have to say gosh I love your videos 🫶🏼
Hi Hannah please i want to ask you for a favor, can you try if the single eyeshadows from clionadh can fit in the lisa eldridge eyeshadow palette case and thank you so much 🥰
I used to be more of a bold lip girly but now I'm a bold eye girly and have had to come to terms with it. I still have a lot of lipstick because I have the space and no one to pass it on to but I have stopped buying lip products.
Pausing at 10:40, I am shaken to my very core that Lorna Dune may be gone 😮😅
New year declutters! Bring it on 😊
Merit ships to the uk without fees
@@freyataylor3042 I guess I have enough accounts without adding yet another to my list, but thanks for letting me know that, @freyataylor3042 . Perhaps I will weaken and give Merit a try....
Lip products are my favorite too
Great collection! I don’t like sticky gloss that the first wind comes by and your hair sticks immediately. I have been using conditioning skincare balms. Much better. Lawless is great.
I keep and mix colours that don't work to mix i to ones that do rather than throwing them away.
Suggestion- put City Lips with your skincare so you remember to use at the time that works better for you???
Damn yes love a good declutter
looking at what you started with and realizing that if i were to declutter, your start might be my end lol. yeeeeeeeeah i got a problem. luckily the VAST majority of what i own is all drugstore/asian so not a bunch of expensive stuff in my collection but holy cow i probably have double what you started with if not more.
Ugh the vinylic lip 😭 they were my absolute favorite lip product
Ooo make sure you take off the KW lip balm packaging (it's refillable for either the lipsticks or the balms).
Does anyone remember the "testing the waters of being a lipstick minimalist" times?
I love this! I feel like all waters are lapping at our toes to be tested 😊 I think that's why I love Hannah LP, Kackie, HauteMessTom and Rachel Ellen Rose's content, I feel they expand into being themselves rather than contract into content creator cliches. May all lapping waters be tested ❤
I was looking forward to this one! And, I am happy to report that I am no longer ill! I'm still going to hang out with you, though.
Lipsticks are so tempting. Kissing babies is really important though. I’m bracing myself for you to go all Mama Bear on your collection.
You got rid of the Dragon before the Year of the Dragon! 🐉 Keep the component
Hi Hannah, did you keep any of the RMS Serum Lipsticks? I’d be really interested in a proper detailed review, if you did.
When will manufacturers learn that fragrance is such a double-edged additive? I feel like it’s become a big thing for me-products that I otherwise love get decluttered because I can’t handle smelling a scent all day.
if the texture works, you could keep the quad as cream blushes
