I personally love when a plant flops. Then I can get it for myself on the cheap. It took me a while to stop chasing trends and simply buy what I love. For example, everyone dogs on pink princesses. I love them. I always have maybe 4 stems growing per pot so there’s always some pink happening. I just personally love them.
I do think that some of the new batches hitting big box stores now are better quality than some of the ones that we were seeing for a while there. I saw some at Home Depot the other day that looked pretty good. I’d probably be open to trying them again once I have more space.
I agree with you about the variegation trend. Imo it appears that people want variegation because it's rare, not because it looks good. The first time I saw a alocasia black velvet varigated, I was in shock about how deformed and sickly it looked compared to the original.

A greenhouse near me had an Ep. Pin. Albo for $700 today on a plank. Yes it was big and pretty, but only had 1 or 2 super variegated leaves. But like, they need to get real with the price. They had the mutant manjulas today too and they wanted $180 for it😂😅

I never knew the story on the “mutant” manjula. They were being sold locally (FL) last fall for 25$ for a 4” pot. That seems reasonable for a manjula variant. Love to see plants become accessible for ppl who want them. Fun video!
The tandurosa is tainted for me too. Beautiful plant, but I could never enjoy it because I knew it was poached. I had one, but sold it on after a year. I didn’t wanna look at it anymore 😂
My first Brandi was a drama Queen. I got another one in a trade because I think it’s beautiful. This one is giving me zero problems. Fingers crossed she stays happy.
How about p. lupinum and p. camposportoanum? i’ve seen a lot of people haul these plants a while back, but you don’t see anyone with mature specimens now.
My campo has turned into one of my fave vining plants. I stopped caring about the maturity and it grows like a weed and is a giant that is much easier than my micans. It barely loses leaves with neglect and sunstresses into deep velvet with lime and occasionally pink highlights that keeps it interesting

I have an amydrium silver that is one of my fastest, easiest growers. In all fairness, mine is the prettiest I’ve ever seen lol. Have it growing up a cork board and it gives leaf after leaf with no runners. They need lots of light and do really well on cork! It’s growing outside right now in Eastern coastline heat.

Syngonium strawberry ice was in my “most cancelled plants of 2023” video… I don’t really have scientific criteria for plants that are cancelled vs plants that flopped and it’s mostly vibes-based so I agree that one kind of walks the line between cancelled and flopped. I think for a while it was pretty sought after and I felt like the price came down with the market but idk. Good call out ✨🪴❤️
Yeah, I have some regular manjulas and they are the SLOWEST growing plants. Over a year old and out of 3 bought- all 4" pots- only one vine has just started... which is almost fully reverted. I would have been so mad at myself for trying those sport ones!
ah I love my epi. pin. marble, but I got it as a tiny rooted cutting for $20. It's been giving me probably a leaf every week or 2 and just got its first fenestration :) but honestly that just confirms that no one should pay that much for it. it grows way too quickly to justify paying hundreds of dollars edit to add, I live about 5 minutes away from Gabriella Plants in FL and I had no idea about the drama with philo gabby. i'm so out of the loop lmao

I agree on the variegated anthuriums. There are a few I've seen on like Onlyplants vids that look amazing, but people get so excited about variegation, even if it's ugly or pointless. It's a bit like how people flip their lids over a one-inch spot of sport variegation on a monstera. Like, it's not that thrilling.

I really like your show. You are so informative. I disagree with your opinion on the Jackyln. All plants are poached. At some point, someone took them from the wild and grew them in their homes and/or shops. I think what you meant was that the person should have reported what they found as a new species and then applied for the proper paperwork to take it/name it. Unfortunately, we d9nt really know where any of our plant babies come from except the ones grown in labs or tissue cultures. Sad truth.
Thank you! But what happened to the Jacklyn isn’t my opinion, it’s what happened and your assertion that all plants are “poached” isn’t quite correct. Poaching is when someone removes plants illegally from a location where they are not authorized to remove them. All plants are collected from the wild at some point, but depending on the laws where the plants grow in the wild, there are many different ways to legally collect a plant from the wild that is not poaching. Examples would be someone collecting plants from their own private land with proper permits, collection for scientific research, or removing invasive species from public land, which is oftentimes allowed and even encouraged. The Jacklyn was poached by someone who removed them from the wild without proper authorization and then propagated and grew them for commercial sale illegally. It wasn’t a new species, it was already named “tandurusa”. And I agree with you, it is sad!

No worries! At this point, I don’t think there’s any need to feel guilty anymore. They’ve entered circulation in big box stores and plant shops so they’re not going anywhere. It’s highly possible that the plants in mainstream circulation came from another source so if you’ve got one and you like it and you’re taking care of it, I don’t see the harm. I think the original offender got shut out pretty fast. 🪴✨❤️
I just watched nick pileggi fan girl over an epi pinnatum marble, and people are definitely still excited about them. I got mine accidentally so it's been interesting to research. I think people expect it to be like a marble pothos or snow queen and just grow like crazy.
Yeah but I bet Nick didn’t pay $1200 for one like sellers were asking when they first came out! I do think they are are cool and pretty, especially for the prices nowadays. Back when they first came out, people were hoping that they would grow more like a monstera so they could grow out to look like Albo monsteras. That’s great that you are enjoying yours!
Finally someone agrees with me that variegated anthuriums look UGLY. Diseased-looking, yellowing variegation is in no way more beautiful than the dark green, velvety sheen of anthuriums.

Hi! So this isn’t an exhaustive list but the bigger channels that Ive watched include like Planterina, Harli G, WildFern, Becca de la Plants, Nick Pileggi, and Kaylee Ellen to name a few. I think any channel with more than idk 50k subs is kind of big. Planterina had almost 1M last time I checked. Hope that helps!

Epipremnum pinnatum are hard to mature? What are you even talking they are know to size up fenestrate quick. Also I think Epipremnum marble king have a niche *because* it looks like a more interesting version of marble queen.
Epipremnum Pinnatum Marble is a favorite of mine, but I'm glad that it flopped! I don't usually go for variegated plants but I wanted at least one in my collection that would look like a statement piece. But I'm not willing to pay the exorbitant prices of the albo in my country, and I'm honestly over them because they never crashed down in price. That's why I love the epipremnum marble, and I even prefer the shape over the monstera. I also don't have that much luck with growing monstera, but I have grown pinnatum varieties in the past so I have more experience with them

Im confused about this plant. I heard that it never went into full production because once the plant gets to a certain point it self terminates.

That’s weird! My manjulas grow about the same as my silver stripes. I keep them under the grow lights though.

A shop near me has a 6" mutant manjula for $250. Has been on the website for probably 6 weeks!
