Bioshock 2 is amazing. Totally underrated. The Big Sisters have crazy energy, almost balletic. The connection between your character and his daughter is deep and touching. The moment when you enter the world of the Little Sisters... there's so much about this game which is an impressive follow up to Bioshock. Those underwater scenes, when you get to march your way through the ocean... so many things about this unfairly dismissed game are incredible and unmatched. You don't have to compare Bioshock 1 and 2 to love them for what they are.
Yes! This is why i love 2. That connection you have with the Sisters and the Big Sisters are a great antagonist
Good point about the Big Sisters, easily the most terrifying enemies in the whole game. If Big Daddies are tanks, they were sentient cruise missiles. From their owl screech war cries to their devastatingly effective use of plasmids, their presence alone elevated 2 (though, as you pointed out, much more in the game did).
I played the entire franchise for the first time a couple yrs back and after playing them the criticism for inifinite is more than fair in a lot of ways. Tho 2 i really didnt see why ppl hated on it. Its great and im not acc sure what i prefered out of 1 or 2 which made me think i need to do playthroughs back to back rather than with breaks like i did before

@@TY-km8hj I think 2 had two strikes against it (pardon the pun): 1) it was made by a completely different team than the original and 2) so much of the game's story relied on a familiarity with the first game (even if the voice recordings and Ryan Amusements did an admirable job of getting you up to speed). Despite this, I still consider it superior to 1. Better combat and a more relatable, emotionally engaging story are why.
The problem with Telltale's walking dead?
The illusion of choice the series always had was too obvious after the first entry.
I enjoyed the story of the first entry, but man... it was indeed a case of brazen false advertisement, "a tailored story according to how you play" MY ASS hahaha
Yhh defo, plus at least in the first game there was a bit more open parts that are dictated by the player such as who helps u find clem near the end, and ben and kenny be able to die in pretty different ways. After that tho its so binary its pisses me off. Playing the 2nd game, and then doing a playthrough and realising it didnt really matter really shattered the enjoyment for me
Bioshock = Bioshock 2 = Bioshock Infinite. Not a bad game in the bunch.

Bioshock 2 would have been even better than Bioshock 1 if the former wasn't released in the age of shoehorned multiplayer modes. I will not be dissuaded in this belief.
Bioshock 2 is a great game
I just played BioShock 1 and 2 for the first time a few months ago they absolutely live up to the hype! I've yet to play Infinite though.

@@jbzhummerh2gamer it's fun solo, I've just been playing it with a friend recently and having a blast so I wanted to point that out. I'm playing as Chuck and he's playing as Frank! It's cool seeing them team up like in Case West!
@yodudeyo100 I have yet to play Case West, but the other 2s of DR have been a blast. I did play OTR multiplayer, but personally enjoyed it more solo-and that's because at the time I was trying to figure out all of the combo weapons, and no one I was playing with was patient with me.
OTR is the best DR game.
Minor point, but the whole reason that Crackdown 1 was as successful as it was in the first place was because it was a free game packaged with the 60 dollar Halo 3 beta, so it definitely didn't come out after Halo 3.
Yep, pretty much the only reason I bought it which shows just how popular the Halo series was becoming, luckily I absolutely loved Crackdown.
OMG I was in LOVE with GoldenSun on my Gameboy advanced for well over 10 years thabkbyou for the nostalgia!!! Even needing the game books to walk me thru the storyline

Not gonna lie: I much prefer KOTOR 2 to KOTOR 1. Kreia is one of the best-written, if not THE best written, Star Wars characters of all time.
Also, TOR's Imperial Agent storyline is one of the best Star Wars stories ever told. It's just a shame it had to be told in the form of an MMORPG.
Yeah, the saga of Darth Traya really makes you question everything you ever assumed about the Force. Even Kreia herself proved to be only so insightful into it and her own blindspots were ultimately her downfall.
Same bro ngl, kotor 1 is amazing and i think its the easier of the 2 to go and start a playthrough for cos its so accessible in a good way. But 2 surpasses it in most areas tbh. In K1 the writing is nowhere near as nuanced and deep, with darksiders and ur characters "dark side" dialogue veing comically evil or psychopathic. In 2 ur dialogue options and the convos u have with everyone are just so much deeper. Add to that the darker more mature tone and yh its the better game. Its only flaw is the missing content that u can only get on pc
Lady Comstock I found doable, but the final act when you face a fleet of airships that all deploy at once is a real juggling act

Life Is Strange. They never intended on making a franchise so they put in all of their efforts into the first one. The ones that came after really show this

All the Bioshock games are great.
Drakengard. I understand that it’s part of the Nier story, but if ya’ll can include Metroid Prime, then this one qualifies. Such an underrated PS2 game
Just two words "Dragon Age"
It's called the "Honeymoon phase" new place to eat, new car smell, the first time you open a game, the first few dates of someone you really like. After awhile it loses its appeal, how many times are we going to keep buying the same thing. I can agree that some sequels were worst than the original but some were just I don't want to do that again, give me something new. Most great sequels really add something to give us a reason to come around.
To be fair, Stop 'n' Swop was abandoned because miniscule tech changes made in between the two games made it literally impossible to pull off.

F.E.A.R, Dragon Age, Risen, Lost Planet, Crysis, WH40K: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.
I get irrationally angry at the Lost Planet series.
Dragon Age: Origins was definitely best, but it’s not like the sequels were bad at all. Not as dark, but still enjoyable gameplay, great voice acting and a good plot.
The next game is due for a Halloween release, so despite backlash for the cinematic trailer I sincerely hope it will follow Origins style more closely
(Let’s face it, some of the cinematic trailers for Origins were questionable too!)
I want to also say the original FNAF as well... the original was an intriguing one-hit wonder that had a simple gameplay loop (basically a horror-themed Red Light/Green Light) mixed in with a mystery you can slowly unravel if you knew where to look. It was pretty stand-alone as the sequels needlessly fleshed out and milked the simple story into something that had unnecessary additional twists and turns that could have stayed as a simple mystery that didn't have to go into almost Kingdom Hearts levels of layering.
Deus Ex is a weird one. Even if the original might be more historically renowned, it seems like Human Revolution is easily more playable today, and it's an excellent game

To say KoTOR2's story isn't as interesting or compiling is downright wrong and blasphemous. Sure it was unfinished but despite that its almost a 50% split between fans on which game is better.

Most people love KoTOR1 for the same reason.
Where its divisive is the nuance of the stories told. Some people love the hero's journey. While others love how 2 goes deeper into the force as a whole.
There was more bias there than in Fox news.
The only people who prefer KOTOR 2 are those who don't pay attention. Kreia is one of the most annoying and narcissistic party members in all of gaming. She's a hypocrite on top of being a complete moron, only the dense or the lazy think she's a good character. She ruins the second game with her contrarian nonsense and I'm just glad a lot of modern players finally see that, I've been afloat in a sea of praise for that god awful character for decades.
Honestly I do see youre point but for me the reason kotr is better then kotr2 is honestly the ending of 2, all the cut content and how much more rushed the sequel feels to the first but if were going modded KOTRs its 2 cause i always use the cut content mod and it helps 2 become a better game
The same applies for SWTOR. Yes it's an MMO, but it might have the best story of any MMO out today! Even though I will admit that Lagacy of the Sith, the current expansion, is taking way to long to finish for the amount of story we're getting.
@@DMBLaan honestly no SWTOR doesnt have the best storyline in an mmo. Its a close second and both are my opinion but FFXIV's storyline is alot better especially after Heavensward the first xpac all the way through to dawntrail the latest xpac.
Also before im told i dont know what im saying ive been playing mmos since EQ, played vanilla wow to bfa, have founder on SWTOR and have played all the xpacs, and am currently doing the 100 grind on all jobs on ffxiv. Yes I'm old and my opinion on Kotr is 1 is better cause its finished and flows a little smoother story wise but if you mod 2 its the better one especially with the cut content mod.
The terrible AI of the people you were supposed to rescue and those people in the Jeep respawning held the first Dead Rising behind the second to me.
Now, Jessie's comment about KOTOR arguably being the best thing to stem out of GL' saga (in my huble opinion very, very close to the truth only if you disregard DF2: Jedi Knight) is so amazingly funny I'm gonna be laughing about it at least the whole of next week. And that super-sneaky way of her distancing herself from those words, which just left her mind/mouth, is by far Jessies most brilliant performance ever!!!

I’m tired of people calling Dead Rising 4 trash. That’s is a fun game with an overtime mode that SHOULD have been the gameplay base for Tokyo Ghoul RE: Call to Exist. Was it perfect? NO, but at least it wasn’t Chop till you drop or the phone version of DR1
I feel Bioshock 2 was better than the first one. Game play definitely better
AND story, with multiple endings based on your choices (something Levine failed to put in Infinite, despite promises). It's the nastiest custody battle in the history of video games and one where you're actually NOT the main antagonist for Sophia Lamb.

So there were 2 Ion Storm studios, the "main" studio was Austin and they made Die Kitana, not Deux Ex

Oh man. Crackdown. I was addicted. I also had a Zune. So Crackdown and Jimmy Eat World’s album Chase This Light are permanently attached. Plugged the Zune in and started the game, then Big Casino would kick in ::guitar lick:: “Stay.” ::BOOOM ITS FKING OOOOON::

I still hold the opinion that Dead Rising 2 is a good as hell game. Its no DR1 by any means but it still does a lot well if you ask me. OtR is more glitch but improved on DR2 in several good ways
3rd may have been a bit underwhelming and a bit too hand holding, it at least has gained some love in recent years

Fucking what? Prime 2 is leagues better than Prime 1. Prime 1 is amazing, but 2 dared to change the environment, weapon, and suit formulas that had been in almost every game before it. Echoes is one of my favorite games ever made.

Whilst Kotor 1 was fantastic, Kotor 2 in fact had better story that 2 if it had been not messed with and Tor has very deep and well written characterisation.
Metroid Prime is not a franchise. It is a spin off series. It's like saying that Paper Mario is the first Super Mario game. I know these people never do research. But its honestly annoying when a basement dwelling loser like me. Knows more about how franchises work.

@@sakara75 Actually i was commenting on the lack of research. I mean, it's clear that with that entry alone this people have no idea what they are talking about. It's even worse in the anime section since they claim that Hakai is superior to a technique that is a passive F-you you die.
I stand by your assessment of Bioshock. 2 was easily the best of the series (also the best DLC in Minerva's Den) while Infinite overpromised and aged VERY badly in almost every respect.
It's not that the original Deus Ex has "trash" dialogue, it's just that the original Deus Ex is a smart game pretending to be a silly game, and Deus Ex Human Revolution/Mankind Divided are silly games pretending to be smart. I like all of them, but I think the main reason all the other entries are inferior to the original is that Deus Ex doesn't take itself seriously, Deus Ex HR/MK take themselves too seriously for their own good. The first game is "memed so hard" because people love it, it would be good for the modern Deus Ex to be "memed hard" but they don't have the "personality" needed to have that impact on gamers.
Devil May Cry should be in here, i haven't enjoyed any as much as i enjoyed 1 (though i never played DMC)
I never even enjoyed the original. It was the same problem I had with the original Tomb Raider (and I admit it's very much a me problem): I liked both better when they were called Alone In The Dark.
Bioshock: Infinite was fantastic...right up to the really dumb ending.
Don't agree...it was a game of middling combat and a dishonest shell game of "choices" that made the worst of Telltale's entries look nuanced. It aged very badly.
I don't remember the fast travel in Metroid Prime 2, but I played that one the least.
I didn't like that your basic beams (aside from power) had ammo you had to replenish. I also didn't like that they weren't even trying to be creative with them; you got dark (it's the ice beam), light (plasma), and sonic/annihilator (some how it was a combination of light and dark, and felt the least effective against anything in the game).
The game also had Nintendo's trademark light and dark worlds fighting for control. You would think that you're getting two huge worlds instead of one, but that wasn't the case. Not all light areas had a dark equivalent, and worse, there was also the fact that some dark areas were just light world areas with different lighting and nothing else. Add on top of that, until you got the light suit, Samus has to move quickly from spot to spot in the dark world, because the atmosphere is corrosive. The dark suit (the first suit upgrade) looks terrible, but you're going to be wearing it for a while.
It's not a bad game; some areas are not just beautiful, but incredibly interesting and creative. The music is great, with some absolutely transcendent tracks. Plus, if you got the Wii trilogy remaster, you have better controls and widescreen support. The problem is that they really should have taken the time to work on the ideas a bit more.
The problem is, that most of the time when a company strikes gold on their very first outing half of their success is due to having found something interesting and new that people have never, or at least rarely, seen before. Be it a new mechanic, a new genre, or even touching on themes others were too afraid to tread. No matter how good the sequels are from then on, unless each one is a complete reinvention, they will always suffer from "been there, done that" syndrome and never out do the original. Even if the sequel is just as amazing in it's own right, it still won't live up to the high expectations and hype that people placed on it to be bigger, better, and badder. Which will always make it feel worse than it is.
Nuts and Bolts reputation isn’t deserved. That game deserves to rot. In. Hell! And Metroid Prime isn’t a franchise, because it is part of the Metroid franchise.
Good list overall, but I’ll have to disagree on Metroid Prime.
While the first is a masterpiece, the second I feel is the higher quality game. The only gripe I had originally was the difficulty spike between the two. Echoes was a lot harder imo.
But aside from that, it was the top of the trilogy for me
I feel like poor Jess gets way more Hot Take lists than any other host in WC Gaming, like it's the same writer behind all the Hot Take lists over on WC Horror. Half these games had better 2nd or 3rd games than the first.

In regards to KotoR 2, Kreia and Sion are more important characters than Nihilus. Unfortunately multiple playthroughs are required to understand Kreia.
In regards to Golden Sun, The Lost Age is the second half of the game. Originally set up for the N64 for development, it was too large for the GBA. If one had a link cable and a second GBA, the password to transfer data could be bypassed as well.

Honestly I’m going to disagree with you on Dead Rising 1 I wasn’t a fan of the timer and I much prefer the 3rd and 4th games.
Ik im probably get hated on this but wheres dragon age origins dragon age 2 and inquisition in my opinion never reached the height of the original game.
Dragon Age Origins is immediately what I thought’ve as well, but I remembered the person in this video is a big Inquisition fan. I enjoy all 3 games, but Origins is easily the best.

What's going on with this editing? Her voice is sounding like an AI that was asked to mimic her voice. Extreme cuts to save every second, not even an outro, bad equalizing of her voice....in a few months WhatCulture will just send us an AI generated script via email end tell us to read it in our heads with the narrator's voice.
2:48 that's exactly what I experienced. I needed to play the 3rd for my job, in an second hand shop, and only heard about the series. I was shocked after playing it "so much hype for THAT?" untill I heard that the 3rd is the worst of the bunch.
Saints Row Reboot, Halo 4, 5, Infinite, Dead Space 3, Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. All the mention games couldn't compare to the original.
Also know which series improved from the original? Legend of Hero Trails series.

Feels like you ignored Dead Rising 2 to make this list work. I honestly feel like 2 was slightly better than 1, then it went downhill. And Bioshock is a reverse bell curve...
Most others I agree with, especially KOTOR. It's weird to me that people liked 2; felt like a half-assed cash in with 1 1/2 cool villains.
Dead Rising, are you kidding? The second one is vastly superior in most every way, plus it's where we got compound weapons. Do you Not want to kill zombies with chainsaw gloves?

Crackdown came out like 6 months before Halo 3, not right after it. It sold so well because anyone with crackdown was able to access the halo 3 demo before the game came out. Please do actual research for these videos WC
Now I got to say 2 is way better than Infinite especially in the gameplay department.
But 2/OTR I say tops DR1 in EVERY way. And that said I love DR1.

I'll be right there with you. Infinite honestly was a case of "overpromise and under-deliver". It had its good points (I still say Burial At Sea is way too maligned) but the shell game of "choices" that mean nothing, middling combat that 2 did WAY better and a story that blew the landing has made it age badly IMO.
2 is great. I did not like Infinite at all.
I don't agree about Bioshock TBH. Yes, the first one was good... way better than the second IMO, but in my personal opinion Infinite was much better than both in pretty much every possible way.
Broken Sword. Shadow of the Templars is fantastic. The rest are good but......

No they didn’t, they just fell for the trap of “how do we expand and improve” and they ended up making so many fixes and increases that it started to lose its identity. It happens to a lot of series that start from very specific roots. (Dead Rising 4… yea leads on that game we’re just doing anything they thought looked cool)
Dead rising 2 is better than Dead rising 1 to me and could be just because I played it first. But when I played the first one, the Mall of the second one was better

Gonna disagree with you on several of these Tooie, Prime 2, DR2 and KotOR 2 are all better than the originals, and Bioshock 2 was better in every regard than Infinite and a gameplay improvement over 1, though 1 was the best in the trilogy for writing.

The Telltale Walking Dead Series was video games as a blues tune...the nasty kind where there are few happy endings. Watching Clem grow up was its own kind of joy.

Hahaha no. Metroid Prime does not remotely beat Super Metroid as the best in the series. Super Metroid is by far the best game in the series, Prime and Dread included.
Bioshock infinite was crap. I've tried to play through it several times but it's just real bad
When it came out, I played through the whole game in 12 hours without stopping. I replayed it a couple of times after and...yeah, it was all you say.

The stop and swop gimmick loss wasn't Rare's fault. It relied on a hardware glitch of the original N64 console. But later editions fixed the patch which forced Rare to remove it. Same with Nuts and Bolts. Microsoft forced the vehicles onto the game because they believed no one plays platformers anymore. Which caused the collapse of Rare as almost all of the original employees quit. So the Rare we see now is a completely separate company to the original.
What you think of and what is best aren't the same thing.

First, as much as Bioshock 2 suffered from being the sequel, it DID have its improvement on controls AND a unique story that worked better than the original (and an even better story with the Minerva's Den DLC).
And Infinite aged VERY badly. Combat was lackluster and the story was a shell game that failed to come up to the original's standards.

I would add Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. The 1st game is fun & nostalgic but the 2nd game is boring, the 3rd game is dog 💩 & the 4th game isn’t even a 3D game anymore. Just a poorly drawn 2D game
