I'm surprised you didn't put new struts on while you had everything apart. I just did new Bilsteins on my 987. The stock ones were definitely shot. Looked just like yours. I'll bet your strut bumpers are completely disintegrated too. Freshening up my struts and all the associated components including new polyurethane bushings for the front and rear sway bars brought the ride quality back to where it was when I bought the thing. A little pricey, but worth it if you're going to keep the car.
Mine need doing and the bump stops are completely shot, especially after a lap of the Nurburgring in summer. Mind if I ask how much you spent on the Bilstein kit and how it changes the comfort, in my area of the UK we get a lot of HGV's in town so potholes-a-plenty.
Really enjoyed the video, lots of good info. It's great getting a project car back on the road after you've got a load of those niggling jobs sorted. Keep it up
I have had a 986 and now I have a 987 just like yours and they are unbelievable cars for the money! A to b on back roads not much can leave even the 2.7 they are so well balanced!
Love that you’re showing ‘real world’ scenarios… I found a caliper bolt held in with Epoxy - new hub and while I’m at it new rear suspension components: there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche!
Had a issue with key led flashing not connecting with car watched a you tube American video opened car put key in ignition turned key to on position not starting car 5 or 6 times interior light flashed then stayed on indicator lights flashed then pressed key fob re connected to car bingo all good 👍 just in case anyone gets similar problems
@@RoadandRacetv Indeed! I bought a 2006 back in 2009 and I can't bring myself to get rid of it, despite adding 2 kids and a dog to my daily cargo since then. Like you, I have a list of issues I have to find time to get to. She still runs great and gives me plenty of smiles when the sun's out and I have a minute to myself (or just one kid).
@@rob.halpin Wow, you've had it a long time. Are there many options on the car? I might take my son for a drive in it this weekend, I think he's excited for it!
@@RoadandRacetv just an exhaust tip and a new head unit (that was such a good $120 spent, and so easy to install). Your son will love it! The afterglow of those top-down drives with you in the Porsche will last a lifetime.
Well done, great update, good job you had the seatbelt on at 11:43 😊 Installed PCCM+ head unit in mine and it’s great, you get the nav directions on the dashboard, has to be coded in using PIWIS to display (unless car was provided from factory with nav). Just integrates really well and looks factory, not cheap mind.
For my Clio there's a little box which tricks OEM head unit that there's a cd changer attached. The little magic box has an AUX input. Got a BT receiver plugged in. Can't remember brand, but I'm sure you'll find it if available for Porsches. I think the box communicates to radio via CANBUS or something.
Congrats on doing TH-cam full time! Still quite far away for me, but hoping to make a similar step in the future. Also, really enjoying this build, keep 'em coming.
Try a Bluetooth FM transmitter with the original head unit. Can work quite well. I used one for a while in my 986 but ultimately put in a retro style modern Blaupunkt head unit.
A really nice run of Video's. I have a Gen 2 987, but lots still relavent. Maybe add the torque levels us use when doing the jobs? Good luck with the 'new' job!
Nice!! Been watching from your 987 series and really helps me maintain my 987...I think you need to swap the steering wheel to the left so that you can drive on the "right" side 🙂
Is it a Bose system with the fibre optics? If so I installed a Mr12volt into my caymen. Works really well for the option of Bluetooth and Aux. Can also use it for calls using the exciting OEM buttons.
If/when you take the door panels off to replace the speakers, make sure to add some Dynamat to the door. This will improve the sound a lot. For the PCM 2.1 you can get a Mr12Volt Bluetooth module that hooks up to the MOST bus, this might be an option for your car as well?
Congrats on going full time TH-cam, looking forward to the future of the channel. I prefer the longer format as anything below 10.min is to short in my opinion. My only dislike is the music choice you have for the videos. Keep up the good work 👍
Love the content, really enjoying it. I have severe garage envy. I scrabble about on a cold dusty concrete floor. Anyway onwards and upwards. I will shortly be the proud owner of my first Porsche, a 986 Boxster so I’m particularly interested in your content. Have you considered fitting the spin off oil filter upgrade conversion? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
As far as the head unit goes, if you do not want to swap for the Porsche Classic model, then see if there is a connection through the optional CD changer?
Bore score as I understand it only affects the enignes with forged pistons, i.e. the 3.4l and above. Mine has cast pistons that don't epxand, hence no score.
@@RoadandRacetv Good to know hopefully that’s true, When I was buying mine I was advised by a specialist that all 987 with Alusil or Lokasil engine blocks will suffer cylinder scoring, I didn’t look into it any further as to what models have that engine.
Did you run the stainless hoses all the way from the metal block under the car and right over the gearbox? Did this save you having to drop the gearbox? Where did you connect back to hard lines? Thanks
Great videos. Im still watching your 350z stuff as I've recently bought one with similar issues to your one. Can I ask what size your garage is as it looks perfect for the set up I would like
Looks like you may have this issue with you top not seating properly within the frame. The fix is pretty simple - you can add new elastic or just tighten the existing strap which has lost its elasticity. th-cam.com/video/5ZN8ffDBZqc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nxEhZLEVJq0qXaxx
Thanks for the shout out. Glad to be a small part in growing the channel 👍🏼
You're very welcome, thanks for the help.
Now that’s more like it. A nice lengthy video which sates the appetite for those like me left wanting with the shorter videos. More please!
Of course. Glad you liked it
You really have done a cracking job with this modern classic. Many thanks for sharing buddy.
Thanks mate. Glad you liked it.
Great seeing the extra detail! How about getting one of those Porsche head units that look more vintage

Yay! I love it when it starts after a major repair.
Yeah, me too. Was a relief it didn't go bang or something!
Keep up the longer videos they are great.
Thank you for another great video 👍
My pleasure!
Look on the forums for the aliexpress 987 headunit reviews, great bit of kit for car play etc at a fraction of the price of a pccm+
Cheers Phil, will do!
Please do follow up with options for bluetooth/phone connectivity, and perhaps apple carplay, etc.

Maybe try Mr Tyre?
have you checked that car for bore score ? From what I have seen it’s not a if but when on 987

Yes. I did originally run it with the gearbox off but I had to adjust it and it was fine, albiet it a bit trickier, with the gerarbox on.
hey man, didn't you have a 986? .. ???
Yep. Got this now.

Yeah you can get classic head units with apple CarPlay.
Remember, if you have spare nuts and bolts at the end of a project, you've "added lightness" so made the car better 😂
That's a mantra I can live by....
Good call on the tire replacements. Porsche says 6 years max, Michelin says 10 max. Definitely don't mix tire brands on a Porsche sports cars!
