Welcome back to the Boxster Club. You certainly influenced my purchase of one all those years ago, im ready for my second one now too. I still miss... This tiiimee on road and raaceeee
@@RoadandRacetv yeah, had it for 4 good years but sold both it and my s4 and bought a newer bmw 540i. The bmw was excellent but do miss it. Hoping to get some garage space eventually and maybe get another one. Interested in how you get on with the 2.7, amazing value really for what you get.
Welcome back buddy, still have my 986 3.2s manual. Your instructional videos have been invaluable over the years and I look forward to seeing how you get on with the next generation model
@@RoadandRacetv Well funnily enough the rear brake pipes needed doing very shortly after purchasing it. Replaced the air con condensers as they’d done the usual trick of rotting away due to debris trapped in the bumper, then it’s been a matter of maintenance and replacing parts as they go bad. Air con pump last year and then looks like water pump this year (turned it over the other day and it didn’t sound healthy at all). But due to parts availability, a very competent and trustworthy independent garage that knows the cars but isn’t a Porsche specialist none of its been all that expensive to replace. Plus as you’ve pointed out, they really are a joy to chuck around a lovely twisty B road.
Exhaust exhaust exhaust. I watched a few videos of the plenum and throttle body upgrade on similar era Porsche. They don't seem to do anything without a tune. I believe it was MOTIVE video channel from memory. Glad you are back also :)
Congrats & so happy you have acquired a very nice 987. Really learned a lot from your 986 vids. Still have an '02 Boxster S now with a 3.6L in it. Expect I'll learn some new things from your new series & looking forward to watching your new projects. Thank you much & welcome back!
As part of the inspection phase it would be interesting to take a look at the internals with a bore scope, starting with cylinder 6. Gen 1 987s (and 997s) were known to be susceptible to scoring issues, although the proportion displaying this problem was quite low.
Made my evening, glad u got something that I love. I absolutely love this channel, proudly say I have the same coloured Zed as yours, I bought it off my best friend who has a similar Boxster too( which i gotta drive thankfully quiet a bit). Also ur vids helped a lot when we bought the Zed for him. We gotta catch up one day, on event or on spin! So happy you got these amazing car!
I’ve upgraded to a Porsche Boxster 981 base and loving it. My son is now driving my Porsche cayman 987. The real difference is the Boxster feels far more modern but the cayman handles better. Can’t see me getting rid of either in my life time. Looking forward to more Porsche content especially around the short shifter change as I’m considering that on our cayman 987
@@RoadandRacetv it is a pretty clean example so just enjoying it as it is ! I have done a lot of maintenance to ensure it keep running well ! Michelin tyres transformed the way it handles 👍
So glad you’re back!! You’re an absolute legend. You’ve been there for me through my 986, and now you’re here for me for my 987. When are we getting the 981?
Good to see a new video from you, love the new car. Boxsters seem to be looked down on a little bit by Porsche purists but other than snobbery I don’t know why. Anyone I know who has driven one thinks they are brilliant. Enjoy it, fettle it and share it on the channel. I have seen some nice after market seats done in Porsche half leather and houndstooth or pascha fabric if you fancy something a bit retro
Nice one Neil, 987 is one of the best drivers cars on the road. The base is a great car. Has a base and now a 3.4 RS60. Both superb cars, you did well to find a base with 6speed gearbox.
Love it! I have a 2005 boxster S myself. Under 7k for that car with the options is a cracking price. Don't forget to take a close look at coolant system (water pump went on mine last year and the crossover pipes can corrode and weep). Will be watching with interest!
Thats a great spec car and one that is pretty rare! Don't see 2.7's with 6 speed manuals often, never mind chrono and PASM! Only thing missing is sat nav, and the Porsche one is waaay outdated, so a nice retrofit will really bring up the interior. Looking forward to following again!
Yeah, was quie a find! Really want to update the stereo but can't find a cost effective solution currently. Maybe an FM transmitter for my iPhone if I can find a good one.
I had always wanted my first Porsche to be a 996.2 non-turbo 911, but it seems those are never going to be any cheaper so maybe time to look into a Boxster. Looking forward to what you do with yours!
I used to own a 2005 987 S, they are great cars. I’ve been lucky enough to own 6 Porsches and in many ways the Boxster was my favourite. The styling, handling and smiles per miles are hard to beat - especially for the cash. Enjoy.
Nice to see you back in a Porsche, you sure this isn’t the 987 Boxster Sport Edition, as all those options are standard on that model. It’s just missing the rear ducktail spoiler.
@@misterdroneboy8999 Having had a 986 I though a 996 wold be too similar. Had a look at 997s but half decent ones were £20 to £25k, and then you need to get one without bore score! Never say never though...
@@RoadandRacetv I’m in a tricky situation, got a TT Quattro sport 53k on clock kinda classic 0-60 5.7 seconds but the devil on my shoulder is saying get a 996 4s…. Glad to see you back making more videos more often. Great channel and thanks for replying ✌🏽
Both Gary and I loved that little car. So much power for such little money. Unfortunately very few people watched the vides at the time and then life happened - I got married and had a child, so the Clio was sold. Would you like to see somethig like that again on the channel?
My first question is how did you manage to find such a clean looking car with low mileage at such a price point? Autotrader has similar at least £2k over and some! :)
Throttle body, air intake why not but no turbo... Motor reliability will be so low. Some Porsche sport seats would be great for support and look, if well maintained they will still bring back the money.
Good choice and well summed up review; not the fastest car but it handles like a Porsche and exploits the power it does have superbly. I've got a Cayman in similar spec. AC condensers can get abused by stones worth checking them and installing some mesh to protect them. Exhaust upgrade is worth a look to, there are various but Carnewal if you can find one 2nd hand (becoming less available) are good, still respectable in the street but adds some growl. It's a modified back box basically. Enjoy! Look forward to the videos.
Super horny spec🔥esp on a base model: Sport, PASM, 6-speed. per 1:05 stank face☹😆 The only things I'd add to the list of proposed mods: perhaps Sport seats, a Gundo-type mod for the exhaust (987-1 Carnewal GT?)

I don't know. I hated the 'fried egg' headlamps when they came out, but I'm not sure whether I prefer them now.

Definitely not. Sport has a different rear bumper, splitters on the front bumper etc.
Very rare to have the 6 speed on the 2.7... 👍
No need to explain why... They drive amazing, just the right amount of power for twisty roads and on a long run gets great gas mileage.
They run on petrol, not gas
Picking up my second one had a 1999 now a 2005
