Jokic is the mvp , imma be real , it’s a lot of Black voter don’t want to admit a white guy is the best player in the nba , don’t remember the last a white guy was the best player. He is the best and it’s not close I love the game of basketball but making this a race thing really make me hate what it has come to . Look at stats and advance jokic clear shai and every category. I wanna know after y’all look at stats and advance stats what make shai mvp Yes he score more , average less assists and rebounds, had less blocks , jokic had better per , better defensive rating, less usage rate , had a better record , jokic was 2nd in triple double, 2nd double doubles , jokic stats in the clutch was better Look at jokic vs shai on and off the court see the difference. It’s not really a close as people trying to make it
bruh its the eye test lol that says everything to me. Jokic clears everyone and it ain't close. I like SGA but he is not in the same class as the joker. His IQ is off the charts in games. That's what sets him apart from every other player and that's something you cant teach.
@@Nate-vq8wyyou’re right. It’s not even the advanced stats. He has an aura. Once he’s on the court the game changes it’s so obvious. The nuggets become a machine.
The Nuggets are by far the best team and it's not because they have the best players. They don't. This is a very rare phenomenon we're seeing. An *ACTUAL TEAM* ! Enjoy seeing this beautiful work while you can!
Giving Jokic a 8.5 in team load is horrendous. The difference in the +/- of Nuggets with him on and off the court is the highest in the entire league. And also giving these ratings to each player is subjective as well. Someone give Jokic a 10 in everything and someone doesn't.
very fair, i think to me plus minus stats are always crazy in Jokic's favor, but the Thunder aren't able to win games without Shai while the Nuggets actually can, probably because the rest of the Nuggets players are champions and used to way more situations, you could argue that that's because Jokic carried them there and are now that experienced but that's not related to this season
@@mj2kalldaythe only reason the other players on the nuggets are as efficient as they are is because their 7' point guard is drawing double teams and dropping them dimes. Dude elevates every player around him significantly
@@mj2kallday The sample size of jokic missing is very small, that's why I compare +/-. Well, that metric is in favor because he is the cornerstone for the team.
Jokic in team load and intagibles should be much higher than you have. Even if jokic isnt getting the point or the assist, almost every point is pretty much directly connected to what he does. That sounds like a 10 team load. And i dont think there is anyone that makes his teammates better, that should make his intangibles about as high as it can get.
*MVP voting should be 3 parts-* ‼️ 1. Media 33% 2. Players 33% 3. Fans 33% Media gets ballots. Players get ballots. Fans vote online. Popular vote wins each sector. Winner needs 2/3 sectors to win MVP. This evenly distributes the power similar to the Government (judicial branch, legislative branch, & executive)
not the ideal NBA MVP but he really is the best NBA player right now. if it was a video game he's the META that only flaw is not being a top tier defender.
Look, it's very simple. Name one team in this year's league, that if you swapped Jokic for their best player, wouldn't be a better team? You can't name one. I don't think that could be said for any other player.
Respect. I knew you were on the SGA bandwagon this year ( I don't recall hearing it from you) and watched the video expecting that. I do believe Jokic is the MVP this year and was impressed by your admission and the need to establish criteria.
just because giannis had an all star doesnt mean dame is better then kyrie.....i mean who had the better season? definitely not dame. so you cant just go off that.
There should be 5 voter categories that equal 1 point each: Current players = 1 Media = 1 coaches/assistant coaches= 1 retired MVP's = 1 fans =1 tie breaker is all votes tallied 2nd tie breaker is points, assists, rebounds, wins combined 3rd tie breaker is rock paper scissors
Dinging Jokic because of team load and rewarding Luka is actually backwards to me. I think Jokic has a much larger impact on his team and them winning than Luka does, Luka just demands the ball. In fact Lukas usage rate is why his stats are so high and also why that doesnt really mean as much. Put the ball in any players hand for that long and theyre going to have crazy numbers, Jokic pulls those numbers while not NEEDING the ball. And the way he plays in other ways like his assists, floor control, and screens shows how hes impacting the game way more without having to rip the ball out of his teammates hand like Luka. Sure you can argue its because Luka doesnt have teammates he trusts, but i dont think that changes the fact of the rest of it
LeBron James not getting a unanimous MVP affecting his legacy get the hell out of here with that garbage! Whoever wins it if they don't win unanimously somehow it's a problem
I am Uruguayan, a clearly soccer country, but the second most important sport is basketball. Including two bronze medals in the Olympic Games, and the basketball heritage is not born in the USA, it is born in the YMCA
If your a league leader in most stats combined with winning basketball should be the main criteria. Should also monitor new stats like whos production lead to victories lead changes etc.
You talk about how people normalized how unreal Gianni's production is and how efficient he is and then go on to do the same thing here that you were talking about 😂
Giannis's MVP case got destroyed by the Bucks not winning, not because of his production, he's a lot closer to these guys in production, but not enough to close the gap
Jokic is arguably one of the best MVPs in the last couple of decades. Off the top of my head his first MVP year was better than Durant, Westbrook, Steve Nash, D Rose, Steph’s first MVP and that’s just off the top of my head.
Yup and how many games AD won vs JOKIC A.D. and flopes cant win a game if A.D scores 40 and Le flop 40 when all the other lflop player will combine for 19 On the other side Jokic with 24 murray 23 AG 20 mpj 23 and kcp 17 plus bench Watson 4 and Braun 6 A.D. is nowhere near to Jokic AND WHO IS LAKERS DADDY MALONE MURRAY -stepdad (not a loving one)

I agree. Cuz everyone else is the reason why this thing is out of control. Some are haters and some lives by curiously thru people and that's the reason they voted. Tired of the madness now🤦🏾♂️
daamn i love this one send it to the league please, and I’m not mad with Luka being 1.5 away from the win since the rankings and defense cost him most points and Giannis while we’re being blinded by the others and his own coach lost points because of the collective of his teams on overall winning factor
i understand that the MEDIA brought LOTS OF MONEY into the NBA, that they have some kind of knowledge and right to TALK ABOUT THE GAME, but that doesn't qualify them to be VOTERS in basketball awards!!
One could also make a case for the teams’ head to head record to break a tie, in which case SGA wins (3-1 vs nuggets). If a person is counting wins, head to head seems a reasonable tie breaker.
Your correct there needs to be some statical measures that any MVP have to meet to be considered beyond the 65 game rules. Points scored, rebounds, assists, games won, and team ranking for the regular season need to factored into the ranking of the top ten players. The MVP should be based on measurable statistics with a minor part left to the voters subjective judgement like 20%.
I love Luka, but if he has another player like kyrie or even him; his stats won’t match what they are now. If he wants to win, he has to be okay with a dip in “production” 😢😅
I'd also take into consideration who they've got for support, not just how the teams do without their MVP candidates. Tatum has a team of stars, Giannis has Dame and Middleton, Luka has Kyrie. It still ends in a tie for me going off this video as while Nuggets and Thunder have great depth, neither team really has that second superstar. You've got the almost superstars in Murray, Chet and Jdub. So what Jokic and SGA can do with a team of good but not great elevates them even further ahead.
For me, in my humble opinion they still do not understand that the most VALUABLE award goes to the most complete, not just for making 1000 triples, it is the one who contributes to making his team the best, both with points, rebounds and assists. sad haters paid. kendrick perkins? still i dont understand why that person could stay in the nba. his ring doesnt count
who was the team to beat? boston right with all the hype and wins to back it up, when denver and boston met, who won both games and who showed up? after all star break, who was the best team? denver stopped trying to push theirselves to win games to be healthy in the playoffs, if their priority was the regular season, you could see higher averages from jokic ,cause he can but for most ,he only gave what was needed. He went on teaching the youngster how to move in the court, that was his priority , to make his team better, to influence them to play smarter not to mention coming off championship, technically they are also the 1 seed. I will not be mad if someone wins the mvp , but if he wanted to pad his stats, jokic can absolutely give more.
If joker rightfully won his MVP last year than maybe Luka would actually have a shot. Like bro, how can average, what? 34-9-10? And be THIRD in MVP race. Smh luka has gotten better EVERY year and if this season dont warrant an MVP then idk wtf hes gotta do!? 42-13-14?
it's simply about winning, he quite literally just needs to get to 4th or 3rd seed, his production is ridiculous but so many offensive players stats are ridiculous now, 8 years ago, Luka would have been leading the league in scoring by nearly 8 points, now it's only 4, offense is scary now a days so his stats are barely just not enough to cover the lack of winning, but if they win, then he's def gon win
@@mj2kallday Luka had by far the most injured roster out of any MVP candidate. If you are going to reward team record so much, then you need to take that into account.
Luka plays better defense than he is given credit for. When he locks down and cares hes way better than you think. Cpl weeks ago he put the clamps on Brandon Miller AND blocked his shot..not from behind, face to face. Shit had me in shock 😂😂😂
And you too are biased (as I am), and you too gave points as you think each one deserve. To me MVP doesn't mean The Best Player, no, and a lot of folks automatically think of TBP. MVP is the one who contributes to he's team the most, and since basketball is a TEAM sport MVP relies on he's teammates. Luka has the worst of them, so he must do it all by him self (no luck for him). SGA also has bad teammates who can't do anything without him. But to me Nuggets after 6-7 years of making did the job, and produced a system where a team knows what to do, and Jokic knows how to make it happened. Jokic is the one devoted 100% to the team, and making every one better, not pushing like some to take most shots and score more points. He wants others to participate and do their share. Therefore he's my No.1 player i the league.
Dude, having set criteria like winning, team load and productivity makes those portions of the vote statistically certifiable. Which leaves intangibles with 10% which, in seasons where players are close statistically, is going to be the deciding factor and is the only subjective category. So I think really this idea is nice on paper but probably wouldn't change much.
i'll take this and holding voters accountable, not letting them get away with some bullshit Jokic doesn't deserve a 3rd MVP because he hasn't won a chip typa energy
Kobe in 2006 is godlike. Not seen anybody like that until now. Nash was incredible with his playmaking also and equally deserving to be the MVP that year.
What’s funny to me is that per is basically just a product of how impressive somebody’s stat line is, so we have a number to show for production already, but people still think jokic doesn’t have the best production. It’s strange
There is only 2 metrics that matter for MVP most impactful. It is literally the measure of who is the most important to winning while on the court, and +- totals. You can look at teammates that also have high +- totals to see weather the player has a lot of help. Outside of Westbrook every mvp is normally in the top 3 for +- total. The voting has gotten out of control. As long as we are looking at these metrics Jokic should win with Luka in 2 SGA is 3 and Tatum is 4 Brunson 5.
Last year Jokic should've won, no question about it, but this year it's Luka, if Luka doesn't win the MVP this year its a fraud, Luka is without question the best player in the league rn, and he rightfully deserves the MVP, too much disrespect on his name which is just shameful.
There's a danger in making the MVP race too objective/analytical. If you think the product is bad now, wait until you start seeing the leading award contenders game the system down the stretch just to secure the right nunners for an award once their people learn the formula
It’s actually crazy that there is even a race. They should’ve gave Luka the mvp a month ago. It’s not even close. People who say “ ITS JOKIC AND ITS NOT CLOSE” are absolute glazers of the century. It’s Luka and it’s ACTUALLY not close. Hes averaging a 34 point triple double. He is quite literally putting up the best stat line in nba history. I actually cannot believe this is a conversation. Not only that but for his stats, he is putting up good efficiency. It’s not like he’s putting up hundreds of shot attempts per game. IT ISNT CLOSE. Luka has SIX less wins than Jokic. That’s it. Just 6. Those six wins are what justifies Jokic somehow 😐. Production is the most important stat. Team success should matter little. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if your team sucks ass, you aren’t leading them to a good seed. Why would my teammates being good make me suddenly better??????? There’s no conversation here. There REALLY isn’t.
There has never been a 32/9/9 season in NBA history. Luka just had a 34/9/10 season on really good efficiency, on a 50 win team, on the most injured roster out of any MVP candidate. Its honestly that easy.
Point differential not relevant because the nuggets sat starters in the fourth quarter cause they were so far ahead in many games and the weak bench allowed opponents to close the scoring gap. Happened many times.
I don't think the system is broken to be quite frank. Was Nash the perfect choice for the 2006 MVP? Maybe not, be he was deserving. Same with every single other MVP winner. It's not always the "best" choice, because there is no such thing. Bias will always be a part of it and that includes fans complaining. Every single example of people saying "player x didn't deserve to win over player y" is because THEY liked the other player more. But at the end of the day, wether it's Jokic, Shai, Luka or whoever else, they deserve to win the award in the end. Because they were great players that made their teams successful.
There's no player more deserving of the MVP than Jokic over the last 4 years. I don't really have a problem with Embid winning last year but Jokic is one of the few players I've ever seen who not only posts consistently good numbers at a high efficiency AND actually makes the people around him better. The only thing he doesn't do is play elite defense. This is the difference between him and a guy like Wemby, who himself will likely be an unstoppable player, but Jokic makes his whole team seem unstoppable by what he does. I think, San Antonion would be much better with Jokic and Denver would be much worse with Wemby.
honestly, I would want sga to win the mvp, solely because I don’t want jokic to eclipse steph in number of mvps. however, objectively speaking, i can’t deny that jokic is a monster. i watched enough of steph and jokic to see that, despite having a lower usage than the other mvp candidates, jokic’s impact on offense allows not only himself to thrive but also his teammates. not of his screening and hockey assists would show up in the stat sheet, so that would probably be part of intangibles. as much as i am awed by luka’s carry performances, his playstyle is simply not one that would help others shine (very reminiscent of harden’s rockets days), and I would always choose the player that’s good enough to get his numbers but also good enough to impact the game without touching the ball.
The NBA MVP needs to focus less on the overall record & more on the teams record with & without the candidates on the court in my opinion. Its most valuable PLAYER, not most valuable player AND teammates. Nash won over Kobe because the Suns won 33 more games than they did the previous season, he shot 50/40/90, & LITERALLY revolutionized the game of basketball. Yes, Kobe scored 35 a game but his efficiency was no where close; however, the variable which is overlooked when determining the LEAGUES most valuable player is their impact on the statistics of the players on the team
Omgosh big Mike!!!!! I used to see you in the playoff live chats last season but haven’t for a long time and was wondering how you’re doing! It’s so great to see your unmistakable handle on my screen lol. I hope you’re doing great and enjoying this basketball season 😊🙏🏾
I know this is a very subjective topic and stats can play a big part in the MVP award. I believe that with current league setup we cannot use only stats to calculate the winner - East vs West disparity, therefore it's impossible to be completely objective when assigning a value. Adding advanced stats to the calculations might help the issue, but again, the value of advanced metrics seems to be overlooked by many simply based on feelings. It's a way more complicated topic than it looks and that's why voters from media have personal darlings and will always root for what they like. MVP has become a popularity award and that's that :)
I just think with the way players are so talented and multiple are deserving of the award. In all time debates number of MVP should not be a major factor rather stats and impact should be measured greater
This is why the NBA will always right about the one who deserves it and who they choose as their idols. We don't need these media choosing an idol for us.

It's really not close at all and I think this video proves it's impossible to quantify. Jokic makes bums and journeymen look elite and I don't think that factored in enough here. 8.5 for intangibles despite making every single player around him better. Even ignoring assists, you gotta watch him on defense. He might get cooked 1v1 pretty often but it's like he knows the other teams playbook and you see it particularly in the way reggie, AG, and KCP have been defending. And if we're looking at moments when the game is on the line, pass to assists, etc. Denver closes games because of Jokic.

I wanna know after y’all look at stats and advance stats what make shai mvp
Yes he score more , average less assists and rebounds, had less blocks , jokic had better per , better defensive rating, less usage rate , had a better record , jokic was 2nd in triple double, 2nd double doubles , jokic stats in the clutch was better
Look at jokic vs shai on and off the court see the difference.
Jokic has the lowest usage rate of all candidates by FAR but is leading the league on touches. When he's on the floor, everything runs through him.

Same as he robbed it to giannis while being swept and bucks won the title
@@mj2kalldayembiid should have won it last 2 year and giannis last 3 years while jokic got swept and giannis winning the league
He also played the most games among the candidates. If that's not 10/10 team load, idk what is.
very fair, i think to me plus minus stats are always crazy in Jokic's favor, but the Thunder aren't able to win games without Shai while the Nuggets actually can, probably because the rest of the Nuggets players are champions and used to way more situations, you could argue that that's because Jokic carried them there and are now that experienced but that's not related to this season
@@mj2kalldaythe only reason the other players on the nuggets are as efficient as they are is because their 7' point guard is drawing double teams and dropping them dimes. Dude elevates every player around him significantly
Nah SGA mvp
@@mj2kallday The sample size of jokic missing is very small, that's why I compare +/-. Well, that metric is in favor because he is the cornerstone for the team.
Jokic in team load and intagibles should be much higher than you have. Even if jokic isnt getting the point or the assist, almost every point is pretty much directly connected to what he does. That sounds like a 10 team load. And i dont think there is anyone that makes his teammates better, that should make his intangibles about as high as it can get.
He doesn’t watch the nuggets bro😂
*MVP voting should be 3 parts-* ‼️
1. Media 33%
2. Players 33%
3. Fans 33%
Media gets ballots. Players get ballots. Fans vote online. Popular vote wins each sector. Winner needs 2/3 sectors to win MVP. This evenly distributes the power similar to the Government (judicial branch, legislative branch, & executive)
I am fed up with the NBA. Period. Thank God for TH-cam videos.
The playoffs has been interesting at least
its jokic 1000% and i hate denver
Luka
Why the hate though. Denver just out there playing games, no trolling, no dumb antics, humble etc etc
not the ideal NBA MVP but he really is the best NBA player right now. if it was a video game he's the META that only flaw is not being a top tier defender.
Nah SGA gang
Aaron Gordon went from mid 40's fg percentage in Orlando to mid 50's in Denver. That's what Joker can do, finding his players at the perfect time.
Agreed
People put way too much stock in the 'All Star' tag
Imagine if the class valedictorian is determined by voting. That is just plain stupid.
There should be 5 voter categories that equal 1 point each:
Current players = 1
Media = 1
coaches/assistant coaches= 1
retired MVP's = 1
fans =1
tie breaker is all votes tallied
2nd tie breaker is points, assists, rebounds, wins combined
3rd tie breaker is rock paper scissors

Well done on this video MJ! Great analysis of a tough topic.

@giftkorope5968 not true. I think he's a great player I just also think he's a brat.

Truth is, Joker doesn’t care. He just wants another championship.
"I'm fed up with stupid criteria deciding the MVP" proceeds to give even worse.
Jokic through 3 games vs Lakers so far:

That used to be the case, and certain people didn't like Kareem winning so much. He was not a very corporate-friendly personality.
daamn i love this one send it to the league please, and I’m not mad with Luka being 1.5 away from the win since the rankings and defense cost him most points and Giannis while we’re being blinded by the others and his own coach lost points because of the collective of his teams on overall winning factor
Whoever gets it this year that isn’t Joker is basically getting a participation trophy. They participated but they weren’t the best.
i understand that the MEDIA brought LOTS OF MONEY into the NBA,
that they have some kind of knowledge and right to TALK ABOUT THE GAME,
but that doesn't qualify them to be VOTERS in basketball awards!!
If he wants to win, he has to be okay with a dip in “production” 😢😅
luka crys for fouls every miss, he gets 10+ points per game on cheap foul calls. He's like james harden 2017. Horrible to watch, ruining the game
The thing Nash. Nowitzki and Jokic has in common is that they are non-US players.
Or did he think of something else.. Let that marinate for a minute.
bruh all teh hoop channels should collab and make a video how to properly give out awards to the correct people
Bro the “I AM BETTER!” by Homelander caught me off guard but was so perfect😂
I like your idea and creativity. Hope the NBA is watching...
The fact you got the same results as the MVP Race projections ! LOL
These numbers were obviously engineered backwards. The intanglibles point distribution as well as two decimal 9.25 says it all.
who was the team to beat? boston right with all the hype and wins to back it up, when denver and boston met, who won both games and who showed up? after all star break, who was the best team? denver stopped trying to push theirselves to win games to be healthy in the playoffs, if their priority was the regular season, you could see higher averages from jokic ,cause he can but for most ,he only gave what was needed.
Jokic deserved it, and I’m happy the rating system held up! Giving him an 8 on intangibles was cold-blooded, MJ, but you’re still my boy MJ!
@@mj2kalldaythey won 50 games lil bro
@@mj2kallday I get it, I think your way at least cuts a bunch of the bullshit out. Great video as always!
@@mj2kallday I don't think it should be purely media votes deciding either.

MJ the goat
There's a danger in making the MVP race too objective/analytical. If you think the product is bad now, wait until you start seeing the leading award contenders game the system down the stretch just to secure the right nunners for an award once their people learn the formula
The fact that Brunson was barely taken serious by most of the “analyst” crew aka the script bots is insane 💯💪🏼 he just keeps proving dbouters wrong
Your wrong for using usage rate. Be real with Jokic, he didn't have Jamaal for 20+ games too.
He also led league in touches.
Actually- you are incorrect. 2016-17 Westbrook avg 31.6/ 10/10. A
Point differential not relevant because the nuggets sat starters in the fourth quarter cause they were so far ahead in many games and the weak bench allowed opponents to close the scoring gap. Happened many times.
Never understood the mvp and shit because in my mind you take that person off that team what team would be better that’s how I think it should work
I don't think the system is broken to be quite frank.
This video aged really well.
honestly, I would want sga to win the mvp, solely because I don’t want jokic to eclipse steph in number of mvps. however, objectively speaking, i can’t deny that jokic is a monster. i watched enough of steph and jokic to see that, despite having a lower usage than the other mvp candidates, jokic’s impact on offense allows not only himself to thrive but also his teammates. not of his screening and hockey assists would show up in the stat sheet, so that would probably be part of intangibles. as much as i am awed by luka’s carry performances, his playstyle is simply not one that would help others shine (very reminiscent of harden’s rockets days), and I would always choose the player that’s good enough to get his numbers but also good enough to impact the game without touching the ball.
Nick Wrong doesn't have an MVP vote..Broussard does

Players and coach should vote for MVP, only restrictions is you cannot vote for someone from your team.
MVP has become a popularity award and that's that :)
just make the draft kings portion 20 minutes, jokic mvp
There is some criteria now you have to play an x amount of games for eligibility
That was a very good video!
Finally someone agree with me SGA mvp
I feel like you did this backwards. Rated the players by personal opinion and then filled in the numbers to make that happen.
Listen i LOVE SGA BUT.....some games he just REFUSES to pass and its super frustrating man
They need to structure it with stats
The award is ridiculous
I just think with the way players are so talented and multiple are deserving of the award. In all time debates number of MVP should not be a major factor rather stats and impact should be measured greater
This is why the NBA will always right about the one who deserves it and who they choose as their idols. We don't need these media choosing an idol for us.
You didn't need to tell us you had/have bias for Luka...we picked up on that.
How is Joker and luka not 1&2 in intangibles
Edit; ahhh i get it now, you raise luka he ranks 1 on your chart....you raise Joker hed just absolutely embarrass the list
so a couple of things here, intangibles was always meant to be what the stats or production doesn't really cover, like leadership, motivating, hustle, things that make role players valuable without having any good stats, Nikola Jokic has every advanced stat in his favor, Luka's entire case is his monstrous counting stats, and that's why that's weighted way more, intangibles is supposed to be subjective and try to help cover what stats don't show that we can feel, and Shai to me did a better job in leading his team, being clutch and so that was my opinion, but I love this debate! The whole point is so we can have a system and pinpoint categories of discourse
It's Luka. He has the stats, he has the signature games, he meets the eye tests, he has the wins too.

Jokic deserves the MVP in my opinion. The coming years Shai vs Luka will be a nice battle, I hope the latter gets a better support cast.
Nicks never had a vote on any awards, and he’s walked back all the stuff on Joker now that he’s proved it all with rings, mvp’s and fmvp.
Its enough to see some players when they play in Nugets with Jokic and after when they go to play in some other teams. How much players are come in Nuggets from other teams and they was good before come to Nugets.Nuggets is school and Jokic is basketball teacher.
Nash, Jokic '21, and Embiid were under a two seed.
Regular MVP title has lost its meaning. The only MVP title that should be recognized is the Finals MVP.
The problem isn't the award, it's the way we distribute it.
I think production should have a 50 percent weight and intangibles does not matter.
There is no bias, Joker MVP because of all the things that stats dont show
