I had a Nomad 7 first gen for a year or so and loved it! Used it to keep my google glass charged while I was out hiking and what not but this is ordered and on its way! Thanks for the review!
Just bought the Nomad 7 Plus at REI, I like the kickstand and thinner design, much better than the older style Nomads. Will pick up the 14 plus in a few weeks too.
Great review! One note: Most modern cell phones (and many Li-ION battery devices) will drop their charge rate after 80% charge to help preserve battery lifespan. In other words, usually the maximum charge rate is only "allowed" between 1-80% charge. I'm not positive, but I think if your phone had been at (for instance) 60% in the video, it would've likely charged 10-20% in the 15 minute test span, even with 25% clouds.
Does the Venture 30 fit in the pouch on the Nomad 14? It looks a little tight back there especially with the wiring. I have a Venture 30 with the old Nomad 7 and the one good thing about the older panels is that the zip pouch was very roomy and spacious enough that I could throw my Venture 30 in there along with cables without any issues. The newer Nomad panel seems like trying to fit into a pair of skinny jeans!!!
Hi will the panel and the venture charge your garmin Fenix? I’ve heard that because the Fenix has such a low draw when it’s charging that a lot of battery banks cut out after a few seconds and dint charge the watch? Thanks
the 14plus goes with the 70. the 7plus goes with ur 30. if u look on the back it says 7watt max for the 30. which is the 7plus. dont know if that 14plus will fry your 30 or not. just a heads up
nice, I have a solar backpack, it has a single panel that fits in the top flap, I would need to lean it on something to charge it if I have it outside the pack or charge in the pack
Adventures With A Cherokee Because you've tested them side by side and tested the output. The Anker although a great panel is nowhere near 21 watts and the Nomad outperforms it. With auto restart and it's durability it wins all day long.
hi living survival that is a really cool video on the Goal Zero panel on the outdoor survival that's really cool information on this video hope to see more thanks for sharing God bless
thanks for the review. I am looking to buy another system. I have the Solar Joos. It has never failed me and works in almost no light cloud type days. Water proof and almost bullet proof. Its heavy and not been updated compared to the others out there. After much research and watching many reviews I just decided the Solar Joos was right for me.
I just got this panel recently and find it impossible for the power indicator to go above two lights. It happens even when the panel is placed directly perpendicular to the sun at noon. Do you think it may be a defect? I saw yours show all four lights and blink rapidly when charging that power bank. Thanks!
I got it from Backcountry.com and it appears as if they do not carry it anymore. Hopefully I didn't get one from a bad batch! Thanks for the reply, I'll post an update soon.
alexicon I think it's a DROK. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00S2HJAUE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501777999&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=amp+meter+usb&dpPl=1&dpID=41rk-jnpLjL&ref=plSrch
do any panel s have an adapter to charge a wall plug rechargeable battery charger. a yo prong plug that you plug until the wall. too charge aa out triple a batteries ???
I find the comments here interesting. I noticed that Goal Zero consistently outperforms larger solar panels. If you dig into the actual cells, goal zero uses Microcrystalline Silicon cells. Highest efficiency you can get. I tried to find this info on other panels and they just dont list it.... Aside from Suntactics, also a great panel, and you pay for the efficiency there as well.
Adventures With A Cherokee Anker is a great panel but the output of the 14+ is higher and works better than the 21 watts Anker. Also the Goal Zero is more durable and waterproof. Features like the auto restart, kickstand and zipper pouch are better on the Goal Zero.
Love the review. I'm in the market for a solar setup. I mainly want it to recharge a flashlight, and of course the phone too. Your video has helped make a decision on which brand, only need to decide between the 7 or this 14. Thanks!
You my friend better think twice about reviewing anything on the higher end--I'm worried you're going to get skinned alive buddy:) Wow, it's amazing that a few can just tee off about these things. Hell, to expensive or doesn't agree with the budget, ignore, case closed. Anyway, I appreciate the honest review as always, despite the increased price tag. I know you have bene an Anker guy in the past as I have bought Anker because of your reviews, but I also know tech changes and improves over time, hence, thanks, for the honest review regarding Goal Zero updated solar panel--I will definitely be checking it out, Ben. Keep it coming my friend as I truly appreciate all you do for the majority:) Peace! -Shane
I try to show products in all prices ranges but when it comes to the stuff I use and end up really liking most of the time it is after I have upgraded from the budget stuff.
Living Survival couldn't agree more. It is what it is and I'm the same way. People tend to forget you do review cheaper and higher end--I'm so thankful you review great gear that may cost a little more, but will also last a very long time. Keep up the great work buddy.
Buy this on Amazon: amzn.to/2traPlM

The Nomad 14 looks like a great size. Also, the auto restart feature sounds really unique. Awesome feature.
Auto-restart is a must for me now.
The was exactly what I needed to see/hear. Great demonstration. Ordering one today for a multi day canoe trip. 🍻

definitely.

Thanks for the video I've been very happy with my Gen 1 Goal Zero kits for years. The newer versions look even better!
Great review ! Will this fit into the hazard 4 Plan B's main compartment ? Thanks ins advance !

Great review. Like the instructional versatility of the product. Simple right out of the box.
nice, I have a solar backpack, it has a single panel that fits in the top flap, I would need to lean it on something to charge it if I have it outside the pack or charge in the pack
I bet you could hang it off your pack and charge it that way
Can you charge the venture 30 with that solar power and use the venture to charge other devices in the same time?
anker vs goal zero solar panel.......who will win?
Neil Archer goal zero due to it's waterproof capability and charge restart
Sounds like like an asset. Added features are nice. I'd buy one. Thanks Tony.
Adventures With A Cherokee the goal zero much more durable and water resistant than both those panels you mentioned. I've owned them all.
Adventures With A Cherokee Because you've tested them side by side and tested the output. The Anker although a great panel is nowhere near 21 watts and the Nomad outperforms it. With auto restart and it's durability it wins all day long.
so does it only charge when ur phone is connected or can you charge thr panel up with the sun, and then later, charge your phone from the panel?
Where did you buy the USB amp measure tool?
Ya I wanna kno that to did you find one I've looked and haven't put the right words in yet I guess????
Nice panels excellent review. I like how long the cord is. Thumbs up
what is that USB volt meter that you are using? or whatever you call it?
Will this charge 4x 18650 battery pack at once?
hi living survival that is a really cool video on the Goal Zero panel on the outdoor survival that's really cool information on this video hope to see more thanks for sharing God bless
so why don't they sell the charge controller/usb adapter by itself?
thanks for the review. I am looking to buy another system. I have the Solar Joos. It has never failed me and works in almost no light cloud type days. Water proof and almost bullet proof. HellsScoutAct yep great panel.
I was just looking into Solar panels thank you.
Will goal zero offer that "restart module" to work with older panels?
good question, maybe email them or call them.
I just got this panel recently and find it impossible for the power indicator to go above two lights. It happens even when the panel is placed directly perpendicular to the sun at noon. Do you think it may be a defect? I saw yours show all four lights and blink rapidly when charging that power bank. Thanks!
Yep, i'd return it for a replacement. I get four lights even on a slightly overcast day.
I got it from Backcountry.com and it appears as if they do not carry it anymore. Hopefully I didn't get one from a bad batch! Thanks for the reply, I'll post an update soon.
great review, might have to grab one of these! btw what's the USB voltage, amperage, power meter you've got at around 11min in??
alexicon I think it's a DROK. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00S2HJAUE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501777999&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=amp+meter+usb&dpPl=1&dpID=41rk-jnpLjL&ref=plSrch
Any idea how long it takes to charge the Venture 30 from dead with the panel Ben? Thx.
probably 8+ hours.
Had this hooked up to my goal zero yeti 150 for 2 days in full sun an it hasn’t charged it one bit
so is the charge restart 'module' a common option with solar panels? or only on premium units?
Richard Stewart This is the first panel I have used that has it and actually work.
oooh - ok, I consider that to be a pretty essential feature, regardless of panel output etc... :)
so the next question would be which battery is the better choice anker 20100 or the goal zero 70
anker makes solid battery banks which I use and will continue to use daily. the venture caught my eye because of it's waterproofness.
What is your take on Chris Tanner and Schrade screwing Him and the Jess-x design? Will you review the new Jess-X?
I no longer review anything from Schrade.
Will this thing charge up something like an anker power core?
Yes
thank you for the information... what would you recommend for someone on a budget
dj rayner Anker panel is good. just less features.
do any panel s have an adapter to charge a wall plug rechargeable battery charger. a yo prong plug that you plug until the wall. too charge aa out triple a batteries ???
What country are these products made?

Ben I swear to you this Is going to be so helpful to me in the future
Finally some one showed what this really does by charging many items
Would have been nice to do a comparison to the Anker given this is much more expensive. Seems also silly to have mesh with a waterproof zipper.
🪶🪶🪶🪽🪽🦇🦇🦇🦩🦩🦩 1:37
Awesome looking panel.
Good video, thanks, BTW why not do a video on Otterbox? ;)
really nice charging system , i really want one of those solar panels and the restart option is right on point no fuss system
atb john
Does it have micro USB?
Why don't they just start making the venture self charging solar?
I like your ideas. Great product. Thanks for the info. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Anker v Goal Zero. Who wins and why?
Adventures With A Cherokee Anker is a great panel but the output of the 14+ is higher and works better than the 21 watts Anker. Also the Goal Zero is more durable and waterproof. Features like the auto restart, kickstand and zipper pouch are better on the Goal Zero.
Fantastic product!
Great review as always.
Anybody know the IP rating on this?
Superb quality got to get one
OMG I JUST REALIZED YOU LOOK LIKE CHRIS FROM FAMILY GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
Pretty slick
Nice compact panel
Nice product!
I need one
€150...... Meh, no. Thanks for the review though!

This has horrible reviews on Amazon.
And?
Customers don't seem to like this product.
I checked a lot of handbooks with woodworking plans. Instructions from woodprix are the best I think.
first
shojus You are tje chosen one!!!
God :-O Thank You God! I knew there was gonna be a sign soon enough if I just keep being "first" to say "first"! I can now continue my life....
